Prince William showed off his new, dramatically shorter hair: love it or hate it?

Many of you have already seen these photos and talked about them, but we got the pics in later than I was expecting, and I still think they’re worth discussing now, a few days late. Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge, the entire Middleton gang and some assorted royals (including the Queen) stepped out at Sandringham on Sunday for a ceremony honoring the fallen of the Gallipoli campaign during World War I. The ceremony involved tweed, wreaths, fur hats and what was apparently a Middleton-friendly lunch at the Queen’s Sandringham residence. This might have been the Queen’s birthday present to Kate – Kate celebrated her 34th b-day on Saturday, so the Queen was like, “What the hell, go ahead and invite your parents and siblings!”

Kate wore a repeat – this tweed Michael Kors suit was seen just a few weeks ago, just after Christmas. It costs $2990, so she better repeat it! Surprisingly though, Kate’s look didn’t cause the most buzz around the royal blogs. The operative word is “buzz” – look at William’s dramatically shorter hair! I like it. Even though it ages him, even though you can really see how much hair he’s lost (not to mention how much the Windsor genes have been kicking in), I still like it. I know it’s difficult for men to lose their hair, and even more difficult for them to admit it, but I think William might have come to that place, where he acknowledges that his hair is MIA and there’s no use in trying to cleverly mask it with combovers and the like.

Apparently, William’s hair was cut by Amanda Cook Tucker, who has been cutting and styling William and Harry’s hair for years. Tucker currently works for Kate as something of an on-call hair stylist. I believe Tucker did Kate’s hair for both of her post-birth debuts, and I know Tucker was Kate’s hair person on the tour of Australia and New Zealand.

A few more things… photographers got a snap of Kate giving the Queen a deep curtsy – go here to see. I also read some royal-reporter gossip that Kate spent her birthday (Saturday) on a pheasant hunt with William? Is that how you’d like to spend your birthday? Then again, we’re not royal-by-marriage, I guess.
