Remember ‘The Twilight Saga’? It’s being remade into a TV series.

I had the best time looking up all of these old photos of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson at various Twilight premieres. Say what you will about those films, but K-Stew and R-Pattz had so much chemistry on and off-screen. The premiere photos are a whole journey, especially now that we’re more than a decade removed. The Twilight franchise really defined a whole generation and now a new generation will fall in love with sparkly vampires and lip-biters all over again. Yes, on the heels of the news about the Harry Potter series being remade, it looks like Lionsgate is looking to remake Twilight into a TV series.

The Twilight Saga is getting the television treatment as sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that a series version of author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling book series is in early development via Lionsgate Television.

The Twilight TV series is in its infancy and does not yet have a network/platform or a writer as sources say the studio, which controls the rights to the franchise, plans to lead the development on the project before shopping the rights to the package. There is not yet a timeline for when the Twilight series will be taken out to potential buyers as Lionsgate first plans to find a writer to steer it.

Sources say author Meyer is expected to be involved in the television adaptation. Wyck Godfrey and former Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-president Erik Feig, who during his tenure at Summit Entertainment bought the rights to the Twilight book series after Paramount Pictures passed, are both attached to exec produce the television take. Godfrey’s Temple Hill banner produced all five of the movies that Feig’s Summit distributed. The film franchise, which made stars of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, collectively grossed more than $3.4 billion worldwide.

Twilight is a major piece of Lionsgate’s library. In 2017, five years after Breaking Dawn: Part 2 wrapped up Meyer’s film adaptation, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer told Wall Street during an earnings call that “there are a lot more stories to be told, and we’re ready to tell them when our creators are ready to tell those stories,” in reference to both Twilight and The Hunger Games franchises.

[From THR]

“There are a lot more stories to be told…” Then tell those stories? Why remake an already-beloved series, especially given that (in retrospect) they captured lightning in a bottle pairing Pattinson and Stewart? While I’m sure they could find two new young actors with chemistry, I’m not sure anyone could compete with the original? So why not just do… new characters within the Twilight universe or something? What’s going on with Stephenie Meyer? Or just hire a new writer to create stories in the same universe? My God.

Natasia Demetriou of What We Do in the Shadows: ‘Twilight was my jam’

Embed from Getty Images

I know Natasia Demetriou as the amazing Nadja on What We Do in The Shadows. She was also a host on the florist competition show, The Big Flower Fight, on Netflix which I recommend. I’ve heard that she may be a problematic person, however she’s kept that under wraps for the most part and is no longer on social media. Natashia is a British actress whose parents are from Cyprus. She was a guest on Seth Meyers to promote the third season of WWDITS. She talked about her parents, her brother Jamie whom she’s worked with, and her experiences playing a vampire. I wanted to talk about the vampire stuff because that was the most interesting to me. Also I’ve never seen her interviewed before and she has a very dry sense of humor. She was wearing this enormous puffy fuchsia gown which really stood out during her remote interview. Here’s some of what she said and the video is below.

On vampire fans contacting her

Vampires themselves aren’t huge fans as we’re kind of exposing them and we’re quite a secret community. Vampire fans love it. When I had Instagram I’d get a lot of delicious DMs asking me if I’d like to swap blood or send articles of clothing that may be covered in blood. I miss that.

On her vampire knowledge

Twilight was my jam. I inhaled those books. They just became part of me. For me it was just that state of just being so horny [as a teenage girl] and so wanting a boyfriend. The reality of it was just me being a teenager, sat staring at the wall thinking the whole world revolved around me. That’s what those books evoke. They’re heaven.

On playing Natasha

It’s so fun. You don’t have to worry about storyline or narrative. She’s been alive for 700 years. I channeled my Cypriot [side]. My dad’s from Cyprus. Cypriot people are essentially vampires. They just care about sex, gold coins, fire and death.

[From Seth Meyers on YouTube]

After that Natasia explained how serious and dramatic her Greek parents are. She said her parents aren’t impressed by her or her brother Jamie’s job, he’s also an actor, because they only watch competition shows like X-Factor and soaps like Coronation Street. As for her love of Twilight, I wouldn’t have thought she was in her teens in the mid 2000s when that came out. I thought she was in her late 30s as she plays a vampire and wears a lot of makeup. No offense it’s just hard to tell! I couldn’t google her age, but her brother is 33 and is said to be younger than her. Maybe she read them in her later teen years or they evoked that time, as she said. I’m much older than her and I read them all too for that reason! I’m not ashamed of it, I know they were trash, but there was something familiar about them. I watched all the movies too although none of them were as good as the first and they were super campy. I’m seeing a lot of women appreciate Twilight for that reason. It’s like a comfort watch.

Also I haven’t started watching season three of WWDITS yet! Kaiser is watching it and she loves it. There are five episodes available so I know what I’m doing this weekend.

Rami Malek: It’s harder to talk to new people in LA than it is in New York

rami1

I really do listen when you guys request more coverage (or to start covering) new or interesting dudes. I’m still looking for an excuse to write more about Matthias Schoenaerts, who is my latest major crush (and who never gets pap’d). I’d also love to write about Aidan Turner or James Norton, but honestly, we rarely get photos of those guys and there are never any stories about them. Seriously! We’ve had requests for MOAR Rami Malek, and more general love for Mr. Robot over the past year. The first season of Mr. Robot was dark and weird and disturbing, and many believe the show is one of the most interesting things on TV these days, and that Rami Malek, the star, is the Next Big Thing.

One of Rami’s biggest fans is Robert Downey Jr. RDJ has name-checked Rami in a few interviews, and RDJ also cited Mr. Robot as one of his favorite TV shows. So guess who interviewed Rami for Interview Magazine? RDJ, of course! Mr. Robot Season 2 just started last night, that’s why Rami is chatting. You can read the full piece here. While it’s a nice read, there’s not a lot of noteworthy stuff here. Malek seems like a nice guy, but he also seems to be living the job, or he just plays his personal life very close to the vest. Some highlights:

On RDJ visiting the set of Mr. Robot: “That was amazing. You turned me into a hero when you came to set. I’m not kidding. They were like, “You know him?” “How do you know him?” I knew it was very cool to know you, but the world started paying me more attention on that day on set. Maybe I elaborated on our relationship too much and started fantasizing it was more than it actually was. No, I just told them how close we were and that we hang out, we celebrate holidays together, we watch movies together, all of which is true!”

He’s an honorary New Yorker now:
“I’ve always felt like I belong there. Growing up [in L.A.] and having a family here was something that I, of course, adored because I was surrounded with that unit. But from the first time I went over there, I felt connected to the way things move, the pace, the ability to strike up a conversation with anybody. I know that people often say it’s hard to talk to people in New York. I think it’s harder sometimes in L.A. But I like the neighborhood vibe, I like getting on the train and going anywhere with that type of speed, having everything at my disposal. The culture, the pace, all of it. I like feeling like I’m in that concrete jungle.”

Whether he’ll be typecast because of Mr. Robot: “It’s something that I think about daily. I don’t want people to look back and think, “This character was entirely in his wheelhouse, and he’s probably going to end up playing a bunch of paranoid guys who have conspiracy theories.” Which could easily happen! I’ve had my fair share of 1970s conspiracy movies delivered over. I would love to turn around and do something polar opposite, and that might actually be happening soon. If the right people are involved and the script is just as powerful, I’d like to make some even crazier choices.”

[From Interview Magazine]

True story: I really did try to get into Mr. Robot during the first season but I just couldn’t. It was too dark and I kept losing track of the evil characters. Maybe I’ll give it another shot, because there are some hardcore devotees. As for Rami being typecast… one of my favorite pieces of trivia about him is that he was in both of the Night At the Museum movies. And he was in Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2. He won’t be typecast!

Rami also has a new profile in GQ – go here to read.

Ashley Greene Was Told She Was ‘Too Fat’

AG1

On body criticism:

There’s always going to be pressure [in Hollywood]. Anyone who doesn’t feel pressure is a really good liar. You’re always going to be too skinny or too fat or too muscular, and I’ve gotten every single one of those.

Everyone has a different perception of what they think perfect is, and you’re never gonna be able to please everyone. It’s so tough, but once you come to terms with that, it’s a little easier to deal with. When I started and got Twilight, I think I was 20, and I was more impressionable. Now I’m 28, and if people are unhappy with the way I look, then they can be unhappy. But I feel strong and healthy and happy. Some people, like Gisele Bündchen, have crazy genes, and that’s just what she looks like. But most of us are not 5’11″ and don’t look like that naturally.

… says Ashley in Health Magazine.

Kristen Stewart on her acting range: ‘I cannot be anyone other than who I am’

FFN_StewartK_EXC_FF6FF7FF13_083014_51516246

Here are some photos of Kristen Stewart out and about in LA over the weekend. She stopped by a friend’s house and then she and a few girlfriends went out to lunch or something. I looked through all of the photos and I’m pretty sure one of the girls is Alicia Cargile, who may or may not be Kristen’s on-and-off girlfriend. I don’t know. Star Mag says Kristen and Alicia dated (or are dating). The official line, I suppose, is that Kristen may have gotten too close to Nicholas Hoult while filming Equals in Japan, but God knows. It feels like the first thing Kristen did upon returning to LA was go to see Alicia.

In other K-Stew news, Elle released their full September cover story online. We covered Kristen’s cover and interview excerpts here. You can read the full piece here – there’s SO MUCH ass-kissing, it’s not even funny. The Elle writer compares Kristen to Angelina Jolie and Elvis Presley. No joke. What’s really funny to me is that the interview takes place mostly as Kristen is driving around the Elle interviewer… in a Mini Cooper. Apparently, Kristen drives her mom’s black Mini Cooper sometimes, which makes me wonder… did Kristen Stewart bang her married director, Rupert Sanders, in her MOM’S CAR?! That’s so hardcore, Kris. For a 16 year old. There are also some additional quotes I wanted to pull:

Why she doesn’t like to make eye contact with strangers: “Because then you’re letting them in. But at the same time, you’re like, What, I don’t want to let anyone in? And, honestly, I’m super real with people. Incredibly. If someone’s really cool and nice and just wants to talk, I will f–king hang out and chat all day.”

Handling fame in the early days of Twilight: “I hadn’t carved out my spot, and people hadn’t gotten used to me yet. It was really f–king hard. I didn’t interview well. I was really nervous. People f–king didn’t respond that well.”

On her limitations as a dramatic actress: “Some people try to do that thing where you craft a character. I cannot be anyone other than who I am. If I can’t empathize with something [my character] does, it’s a problem. And sometimes I’ve had directors be like, It’s not you, Kristen, it’s the character. And I’m like, That’s the laziest thing you can possibly say to me. It is me. It’s definitely me.”

[From Elle]

Sigh… so hardcore, Lip-biter. To me, saying “honestly, I’m super real with people” is the kind of thing snotty a—holes say to make themselves feel better. What, I’m just being SUPER REAL with you. You don’t get how super real I am. And I really don’t get her train of thought on her limitations as a dramatic actress – “That’s the laziest thing you can possibly say to me”??? Really? Is it lazier than getting paid millions of dollars to get typecast as an awkward lip-biter because you have the dramatic range of a wood splinter?

Shailene Woodley Calls Twilight “Toxic”

Shailene+Woodley

Shailene Woodley is saying what we’ve all been thinking (and saying) for some time now — the Twilight book and film series suck. Specifically about their suckage, is that they depict unhealthy and “toxic” relationships. At least that’s what she told Teen Vogue. From Contact Music:

‘Twilight’, I’m sorry, is about a very unhealthy, toxic relationship. She falls in love with this guy and the second he leaves her, her life is over and she’s going to kill herself! What message are we sending to young people? That is not going to help this world evolve.

Girl, word. Ms. Woodley has Divergent coming out soon that hopefully depicts a strong, female character, which we really don’t see enough of.
