Size 12 Model Iskra Lawrence: “So you don’t think I’m good enough unretouched?”

Size 12 US model Iskra Lawrence stars in Aerie’s latest campaign, where beauties of different sizes are unedited – and recently, the blonde model opened up about a past experience that destroyed her confidence:

‘I tested with a photographer about a year ago and loved the pictures at the shoot. He sent me the pictures two weeks after and he retouched the hell out of them. I said to him, “I don’t feel like I can use these. Can you send me the raw files?” and he was like, “No, I’m not comfortable with that, and I was kinda of like, “Oh OK, so you don’t think I’m good enough unretouched?” After so many years of being rejected and having my body scrutinized…. for Aerie to come along and basically say, “we accept you, we don’t care about your size.” To see those pictures on a Times Square billboard and they were completely unretouched, I just was like, “Wow. I finally feel good enough!

… says Iskra.

Olivia Wilde: ‘You can’t be a good mother unless you really love yourself’

Olivia Wilde

This is Olivia Wilde’s new Revlon campaign called “Love is On.” When I heard about Livvy’s new contract, I was thrilled. She’s a gorgeous lady and a decent actress, but she’s had a terrible run of bad luck with acting projects. The last project I watched her in was Drinking Buddies on Netflix. She played the “cool girl” who guzzled beer and wasn’t looking for a guy to spend the night after hitting it. I want to say Olivia could land better roles, but that’s just me being hopeful.

I do like Olivia. She’s both intelligent and quick witted. Most of the time, she plays the love interest in movies, so she’s not losing out by transitioning to modelling. Playing spokesmodel is a lot less demanding (timewise) than spending months on a film set, so the Revlon gig lets Olivia be a selfless mother and still provide a platform for her new earth-mother brand. Olivia promoted Revlon in Times Square yesterday. She also gave some quotes about makeup and love to the December issue of InStyle:

On winter makeup: “I find that winter and the holidays is a fun time to just play a little bit more with makeup. I think I tend to wear more eye makeup and maybe bolder lip colors in the winter and that’s kind of what’s good about holiday parties–being able to go a little bit over the top. It’s the one time you can wear glitter without being a stripper, and I really enjoy that opportunity. The new Eye Art products are super fun and they’re perfect to pair with a sparkly top. That’s something I think is going to be fun for all of those holiday parties.”

On the “classic red lip”: “I like deep reds. The one problem with lipstick sometimes for me is that it doesn’t stay and I’m constantly wiping it off my forehead or my ear, and I really hate that, so I really like the ColorStay, the Ultimate Suede. There’s good nice, red, poppy colors, like “Boho Chic” is a fun one, and I think you should feel free to wear lip colors, but you really don’t want it to end up everywhere, and I honestly have found it on my forehead and my ear. I have no idea how my own lips get on my own neck. It just doesn’t make sense.”

She’s a huge holiday enthusiast: “Yeah, all of them! I love it. I really indulge throughout the holiday season. It kind of starts with Halloween and it goes ’til March. I really love to cook, and I love to cook holiday meals because I love all the sides. I love cooking Brussels sprouts and yams.”

Changing makeup with the seasons: “Yeah I think I use a thicker moisturizer in the winter because my skin gets really dry and kind of red. I really like the Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream. It’s pretty thick and I find that my skin drinks it up. It definitely makes it a better base for any sort of makeup I put on top of it because if you put makeup on top of dry, cracked skin, it’s not going to look pretty.”

How a woman “in love” looks: “When I see a woman walking down the street and I think, ‘She’s beautiful,’ it’s usually because she seems really confident and self-possessed and really loving herself. She’s not looking for validation from anyone else, and I do think you can’t love anyone else until you love yourself–it just doesn’t work, and then that love does translate to how you look. It radiates from you. And it can be the love of your partner, which obviously has such an amazing effect on how you feel. You can’t eat because you’re so excited…but it’s also love for your child. I find that the deep love that’s introduced to you as a mother makes you feel beauty of a different type, and you walk around the world with a different admiration and appreciation of the world. I will say you just can’t be a good partner, and you can’t be a good mother, and you can’t be a good friend unless you really love yourself, and I think that that is something we learn from life and maturity. I think it’s something that I really enjoy about getting older, is honing in on that a little bit and meditating on it a bit more and understanding the difference between self-obsession and confidence. I think that’s a normal part of growing up, understanding the difference. I think that beauty and style and all that fun stuff is a great way to celebrate that self love.”

[From InStyle]

Olivia has prepared well for this Revlon gig. She has plenty of product names on the tip of her tongue and ready to fire at journalists. Livvy is very funny too. What other cosmetic spokeswoman would say that holidays are “the one time you can wear glitter without being a stripper“? She’s a comedienne, and I bet Livvy used a perfectly deadpan voice to deliver her lines. I want her to talk more about moisturizer. This premature winter is already brutal for soft lady skin.

What do you think about Olivia’s theory that no one can be a good mother before they love themselves? It feels like common sense, but I hear people say it a lot.

Livvy’s baby daddy, Jason Sudeikis, stopped by to visit David Letterman earlier this week. Jason says he almost missed the birth of Otis Alexander because he went out to grab tacos. Then he stopped at a bar. After a few shots, Jason noticed a missed call, which was from a frantic Livvy. Was he joking? He does that a lot. Here’s a clip for the curious.

Tom Hiddleston did a NYC charity screening of ‘Thor 2′ for children: adorable?

wenn20799606

This should show you how bad my Cumberbatch Withdrawal Syndrome has gotten – I’m writing about Tom Hiddleston. I do like Tom, even though he’s made of Try-Hard. I would just prefer him with a dash of danger in his English Thunder, and perhaps with some facial hair too. But I will give him this – he did a really, really nice thing last night. In fact, Tommy was so sweet last night that I’m going to give him a week-long freebie pass. If I talk about Tommy in the next week, I will be really nice to him (even if he’s wearing VELVET). This is what Tommy did: he flew into NYC for a special kids’ screening of Thor 2: The Magnificent Loki, all for charity.

Actor Tom Hiddleston flew in from London on Halloween just to trick and treat kids from two charities in a special screening of his latest film, “Thor: The Dark World.”

“I am Loki and I am filled with glorious purpose,” Hiddleston said in the menacing voice of his character as he stepped out to surprise the crowd at the event co-hosted by Disney, Marvel Studios and the Daily News.

He then dropped into a more regular register to thank the charities being honored at the AMC Empire 25 in Times Square — Variety the Children’s Charity of New York and The Children’s Aid Society.

“It was amazing,” a beaming Hiddleston, 32, told The News after leaving the theater as the kids watched the movie. Though he had landed at JFK just two hours before the screening, the British thespian said the screening was worth the long journey. “I just landed from London at 4 p.m. and to sort of come through the airport, throw on some clothes and come into that response where there were just 300 kids so excited to be there. To see that enthusiasm, to see them clap and cheer, wearing Loki T-shirts and swinging hammers, that was really gratifying.”

Little did the kids engrossed in “Thor: The Dark World” suspect that [Hiddleston] crept back inside to watch a bit of their reaction to his movie after his interview with The News.

“For charities like Variety of New York and Children’s Aid Society and UNICEF, who I have done some work for, I believe so strongly in their work,” he said. “There are armies of people behind the scenes who do tireless work on behalf of children all over the world. So it’s nothing for me to turn up and introduce a screening for them. I hope it’s a nice reward.”

[From The NYDN]

You can see photos of Tom at the screening at the NYDN. He wore a vest, because brother loves his vests. No! I said I was being nice to him. I’ll be nice. He looks very cute with the kids.

Tommy also has some new interviews out. Nothing groundbreaking, but I thought you’d find some of the quotes interesting:

His fan-girls: “I have been in receipt of mostly nothing but the sweetest, most generous attention and affection. It feels like it diminishes them to call them ‘fans’. They are not just one homogenous lump. Anyway, I Iove their enthusiasm. They are more sophisticated than people realise. They love the complexity of it. But they also love that it is tongue-in-cheek.”

He was asked about Eton & his posh education again: “I don’t know. It’s all about someone else’s interpretation. I would counter you with Michael Fassbender and Idris Elba and Tom Hardy. I don’t know that it is a phenomenon. I would say that my becoming an actor was a very unconventional thing in my peer group. That was not what people did. So the idea that it’s become ‘a thing’ is very strange to me. I have always felt like I was going off-piste. To be told that I am the one skiing down the main track is so strange to me.”

Filming Only Lovers Left Alive in Detroit: “I really fell in love with that place. It changed my entire perception of America. I had been to New York, Los Angeles, San Diego and all those coastal places. This was something else. In the 1920s, it was the centre of the world. Now there are only 300,000 people and looks like the set for a post-apocalyptic movie. But the people are so incredibly kind.”

He was given a treat by a journalist: “Ohh, oatcakes? How lovely! I’m going to have one right now… Haggis flavoured,” muses Hiddleston, as he checks out the packaging. “And yet ‘vegetarian-friendly’! It’s yummy, but one wonders where the flavours come from.”

The story for Thor 2 was his idea: “I was quite vocal that after seeing Thor and Loki as antagonists in two films, we couldn’t just do that again. And Chris was equally vocal about avoiding identikit scenes. Everybody pitches in ideas, so when I said ‘wouldn’t it be amazing to see them fight side-by-side?’, Kevin Feige of Marvel immediately said ‘yeah, let’s see how that works.’”

On his dancing skills: “It’s organised flailing. I didn’t learn any steps, I didn’t train – that’s my misspent youth in the 1990s, I have always loved dancing. When my sister got married in India, I missed the dinner because I was dancing. And Tilda has a line in Only Lovers that she wrote herself ‘Life is about appreciating nature, nurturing kindness, friendship – and dancing.’”

[From The Scotsman and Irish Times]

I get the feeling that Tom is really trying to repress his upper-crust education, but for the life of me, I don’t understand why. It’s his shtick! He’s a nerdy Shakespeare guy with a great education. Own it, Tommy! And I’m sorry, but the haggis-flavored vegetarian biscuits were the best part of the interview.

Newsflash: Jennifer Lopez Is A Total Diva and Her Team Acts Accordingly

jennifer lopez

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to deduce that Jennifer Lopez has a serious case of diva fever (shouts to THE Diva Fever) and hires a ton of people who will treat her like she shits gold. Hey, why not? Live your best life, etc. J.Lo is fierce and she’s doing her thing, so unless she starts having her assistant publicly flogged in the middle of Times Square or something, I’m into it.

Anyway, all of this apparently came as a surprise to Chrissy Teigen, who really seems to be trying her damndest to get into the public spotlight by engaging in any kind of celebrity commentary possible. First Amanda Bynes, now J.Lo in the span of a week? Girl, you need to sit down.

After heading to the Chime For Change concert in London over the weekend with her fiancé John Legend (I can’t even begin to address this one), Chrissy went on a rant about how unjustly she was treated by J.Lo’s team and all this bullshit that just screams NO ONE CARES. Of course, she got called out for her bullshit and has since deleted the tweets, but here’s what she originally said:

“I won’t get into it but Jennifer Lopez’ people need to calm the f*ck down.

“I love Jennifer Lopez. But as I am sitting and watching John perform, I don’t need her people to lay down the j-lo laws.

“She shall still be my face and hair idol. Her people can kick rocks.

“I have never once been asked to leave an area for an artist’s supreme arrival. Maybe I should carry around a horn and streamers.”

Well you obviously haven’t been around many big artists, have you? I don’t think that’s all that rare. Not that it’s RIGHT, but it’s certainly not unique. Also, I love that this is clearly a slam on Jennifer herself, but Chrissy is too scared to to head to head with her and instead blames it on her team. Does this girl realise that J.Lo’s team operates on rules established by J.Lo herself? I mean, come on.

oprah

Lady Gaga Had Hip Surgery; Is Not Dead, Is Still Working

lady gaga pink hair

Lady Gaga‘s hip surgery was a success and she’s not slowing down. In fact, she is “doing unbelievable.” The singer is still in some pain after tearing all kinds of muscles and joints and shit in her body (I’m not a doctor) and is confined to a really expensive custom-made golden wheelchair.

On her surgery that occurred a few weeks ago, she released this statement:

As they wheeled me into surgery today, I thought about all of your pain and perseverance, your unique family situations, school environments, health issues, homelessness, identity struggles — sometimes you are so brave that it terrifies me. I wonder how it’s even possible. So I thought to myself, I’m alive, I’m living my dream, and this is just a bump in the road. I’m grateful because this is temporary, and for some it is not. You have changed my life. I love you and am proud to be a part of your lives. If you can do it, I can do it too, and if we stick together we can get through anything. Love, Gaga.

MTV reported that while Gaga isn’t touring, her bus is, as her bus some sort of charity raising self-esteem thing.

The tour cancellation also halted the Born Brave Bus, which was on the road in support of Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation. The foundation’s goal is to inspire bravery and promote self-acceptance among young people, and Gaga described the bus tour as “a fun tailgating experience for Monsters to unite.”

However, on March 14, it was announced that the bus was starting back up and embarking on a four-city tour. On Saturday and Sunday, it will stop in New York City’s Times Square, and next Wednesday, the bus will park at Chicago’s Navy Pier.

She’s also working on her latest album, Artpop. Dude, maybe take it easy for a little while. Again, I’m not a doctor, I’m just a person with common sense.
