Duchess Kate scored this week’s People Magazine cover with a story called “Pregnant Princess Diaries”. I swear, Us Weekly had a similar cover story a few weeks ago, right? Something about “Secrets of the Pregnant Duchess”…? But People upgraded her to a Princess, something that will probably be coming once Kate gives birth. Just wait for it! I predict that a few months after giving birth (probably around the time of the christening), the Queen will give Kate another title, and it will probably be a princess of something or other. And don’t forget about the rest of the Middletons! Will the Queen give Carole and Michael a peerage? HA! That’s what I would like to hear about, but instead we’re just getting details about how Kate is “feathering her nest”.
Her nursery in Apt. 1 A at Kensington Palace won’t be move-in ready until the fall, but the Duchess of Cambridge – due in July – has been plenty busy feathering her nest.
She’s been scouting out decorating supplies, a royal source tells PEOPLE. And after a difficult first trimester, “She’s finally getting a chance to enjoy her pregnancy,” says a Palace insider. “It’s a fabulous time.”
It also couldn’t be a busier one. With plans to work up until the last possible moment, Kate went from greeting the Irish Guards (and politely changing the subject when one asked what she planned to name her baby) to joking around with the Queen to a campfire cookout with the Cub Scouts in the last two weeks alone. The “quite sugary” pastry she indulged in on that day was just the latest sweet snack the princess has enjoyed.
And she’s not the only one with cravings. Handed a chocolate Easter bunny by a family of well-wishers at a charity appearance March 19, Kate promised to “pass that to William … and make sure he doesn’t eat it all himself!”
The mom-to-be is expected to make arrangements to give birth at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington — the the same hospital where Prince William and his younger brother Harry were born!
This hospital is no stranger to high society. Emily Venarachellum, who was recently a patient at the hospital, revealed to People that it has renovated private rooms, satellite TV and concierge services. She also made sure to add that the hospital has “none of that fluorescent lighting you get elsewhere.”
If Kate decides that she wants an even more posh hotel, she would expected to be at Portland Hospital, where Victoria Beckham, Claudia Schiffer, and other British celebrities have given birth to their babies. Portland is also not just your ordinary hospital — it includes late-night room service, personal shopping and baby photos!
When the highly-awaited royal baby is ready to arrive, one doctor is expected to help Kate with the birth. His name is Alan Farthing, and he was described by his friend, Nick Ross to People as “charming, cool, reliable.”
Along with Alan, the Queen’s doctor, Marcus Setchell, will help the Duchess on the big day. A royal source described the doctor as “a lovely old-school gentleman,” and continued to say “and very highly rated by the Queen.”

Yeah, I still think it’s funky that Kate can’t have her own gynecologist. Presumably she had her own commoner gynecologist before she married William, so why does she have to change doctors just so she can deliver with the ob-gyn who only services royal vadges? As for the rest of it… poor Kate did FOUR events in a week (and none this week, so far) and I think it’s really funny that her new work ethic (“work ethic”) got her a People Magazine cover. I guess People is trying to do positive-reinforcement with our duchess. They should have named the cover story, “The Duchess stops shopping for a few days so she can do a few hours of work! HUZZAH!”
Meanwhile, OK! Magazine has a totally weird story about Kate too. Apparently, Kate is “breaking with royal tradition” by allowing her sister to throw her a baby shower. We don’t know if this is true, but a source told OK! Mag:
“It was her sister Pippa’s idea… While it’s all going to be very relaxed and fun, Kate is hoping the queen will drop by because the two are remarkably close. They bonded big time and really enjoy each other’s company. Since this is going to be a first for royals, Kate would love the queen to be part of it. Pippa is in charge of decorations. Wine and beer will be available — not that Kate will be drinking alcohol, of course. There will certainly be none of the hard stuff.”

Just what the Queen wants to do, do shots with Pippa and Carole Middleton at Kate’s baby shower. While I think it’s a nice idea for Kate to have a baby shower thrown by her sister (Pippa Tip: when throwing a baby shower, a “baby” theme is a good idea), I have two concerns. One, I always think it’s bizarre when really wealthy people want other people to give them gifts. Kate shops enough – she’s completely capable of picking out all of the baby stuff she wants. Two, does Kate really have any girlfriends she could conceivably invite to the shower?
