Are you buying The Poor, Bullied Anne Hathaway Campaign of 2014?

FFN_Hathaway_Anne_EXC_TERO_110414_51576329

I covered most of the nonsense that went down with Anne Hathaway back in late 2012 and early 2013, the height of her Oscar campaign for Les Miserables. I remember how harsh people were about all things Annie, and I remember defending her… sometimes. To be fair to Annie, she’s not the first person to oversee an overzealous Oscar campaign and she’s not the first person to oversaturate the media with too many interviews, too many magazine covers, too many photo-ops, too much twee-ness (coughNataliePortmancough). To be fair to the media, Anne WAS overzealous, annoying and much, much too cloying and needy. It was like everyone forgot that, oh right, she’s actually an A-list actress with a great deal of talent. Even Annie forgot. Was the coverage of her at times overblown, rude and “bullying”? Yes, it was. But I do think there’s a difference in “bullying” coverage and coverage that was basically like “please settle down, girl, you’re embarrassing yourself.”

I bring this all up because Annie is promoting Interstellar, and she keeps speaking of that moment in her life. To hear Annie tells it, the Hathahate was like being punched and slapped. When Anne sat down with Ellen DeGeneres this week, Ellen was really nice to her and Ellen referred to what happened as “cyberbullying.” Agree or disagree? Eh. You can see the video here. Here’s what went down:

Through hate, Anne Hathaway learned to love. The actress, 31, appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday, where she opened up about the backlash she suffered after winning Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Les Misérables.

“For whatever reason—and it’s a small group, trust me—[cyber bullies are] loud because I went through this,” host Ellen DeGeneres told her guest sympathetically. “And voices that don’t like you and say mean things really stick with you for some reason, more than voices that say, ‘You’re great!’ So, when that was going on after the Oscars, which you should have been celebrating—you won an Oscar!—and then all the sudden…Explain how you accidentally Googled something and this is what you found.”

Hathaway, a Hollywood veteran, said she “had gotten out of the habit of Googling myself because that’s just a bad idea to ever do that.” But in a rare instance, she said, “My friends and I had an idea for Funny or Die and we wanted to do something on celebrity pregnancy rumors, so we just Googled pregnancy rumors and the story came up. The title of it was ‘Why Does Everyone Hate Anne Hathaway?’”

The audience gasped, to which she said, “It’s really OK. It has a happy ending. Life continues.”

“Yes, but I know what that feels like and I think when people write things like that or say things like that it is cyber bullying,” DeGeneres told Hathaway. “How did you deal with all that?”

“Well, I listened at first. I couldn’t help it, you know? And you try to shut it off and I couldn’t, and then I realized why I couldn’t was I hadn’t learned to love myself yet. I hadn’t gotten there. And if you don’t love yourself when someone else says horrible thing to you part of you is always going to believe them,” she said. “So, then I was like, ‘OK, I don’t want to believe these people. I don’t want to agree with them on any level. And I want to figure out who I am. I want to learn who I am. I don’t want to feel like I’m fragile every time I leave the house because I’m so dependent on what other people think about me. So, I just took a step back, and as Matthew McConaughey, my co-star in Interstellar, would say, ‘I just kept living.’ And, it’s been a really cool journey,” Hathaway said. “I feel like I arrived in a place where maybe not every minute of every day, but way more than I used to, I have a tremendous amount of love and compassion for everyone else—and best of all I have it for myself, which I never enjoyed before.”

DeGeneres then offered the actress more support, saying, “There’s a great phrase: ‘What you think of me is none of my business.’ And there’s nothing wrong with being fragile. I think it’s a beautiful thing.”

[From E! News]

I too think it’s okay to be fragile and for a person to acknowledge that they’ve been hurt by certain comments. But I don’t care for the way Anne is allowing herself to be infantilized by this – she wasn’t some little girl done in by dastardly bullies, nor was she physically assaulted or damaged in any profound way. She was a grown woman flashing her Oscar Biscuit at the premiere of Les Mis and throwing hissy fits when she didn’t get her perfect Oscar dress and some people on the Internet said mean things about her. That’s it. I do agree that Annie probably didn’t “love herself” enough to ignore the haters, but… I don’t know. I’m not really feeling this whole Poor Bullied Annie Hathaway Campaign of 2014.

Jennifer Lopez Has Too Many Meetings to Party

jennifer lopez cosmopolitan

I love me some Jennifer Lopez, but does anyone REALLY expect the woman – who is not 21, need I remind you – to spend every day and night at the club, acting like a fool? Honestly? Apparently she thinks so, as she felt the need to justify the fact that she doesn’t do that in a new interview with Cosmopolitan:

“Once it gets past 12, I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s getting late’. If you’re hanging around some after-party until the wee hours, how are you supposed to take five meetings in a row the next day?”

Uh, first of all, she’s outdone me because I can’t tell you the last time I stayed up until midnight. Even when I was in Vegas, I don’t think we were ever up past midnight. It’s fine, guys – I accept my Memaw status and enjoy my sleep (especially since I’m up by 6am, sometimes earlier, every day).  Second of all, you are a grown woman with young children. I know you’re famous and all that, but anyone who thinks you belong at a party past midnight is smoking something serious. Anyway, she’ll need her beauty rest to deal with the trainwreck that is American Idol later this fall.

Fun fact also learned in this interview: Casper Smart’s real name is Beau, and she calls him by it! I dunno why that tickled me, it just did.

Courtney Stodden was kicked off ‘Big Brother’: ‘I feel more like a grown woman’

This is my first time writing about Courtney Stodden (CB usually covers her). I’ve gotten some tweets asking for more coverage of Courtney and what was going down during the UK’s Celebrity Big Brother, but I haven’t watched it (do we even get it in America?) and every time I looked at coverage from Celebrity Big Brother, it was just photos of Courtney’s crazy circus t-ts. Seriously, they are GROSS. And it looks like her body is rejecting them. Anyway, Courtney got kicked off of Celebrity Big Brother last night, and these are some photos of her walk of shame or whatever. She talked to E! News after it was over:

Courtney Stodden may not have won Celebrity Big Brother 12, but she’s still feeling richer for the experience.

Though she was “buzzing” (having a great time, per her new favorite British slang word) most of the time, the worst part, “was boredom and not being able to communicate with my family,” Courtney exclusively told E! News after leaving the house.

But, she added, “I was able to come away with strength, wisdom and positivity from my experience. I feel more like a grown woman.”

After saving her stuffed bunny from the wash, spending time in garden jail and posing as one-half of a couple with Dustin Diamond, the 19-year-old was evicted on Wednesday’s episode, aka day 21 of the U.K. competition. She posed for her official eviction pic in a shiny, skin-tight pink minidress.

While she missed husband Doug Hutchison more than anything, Starbucks was a close second, Courtney admitted. Or maybe food of any kind…

“I’m starving! I’m waiting for the hotel to bring me my pasta but they’re taking forever,” she told us.

The teen will be staying in London for at least another week to do interviews and check out other business opportunities.

“I absolutely adore London and I can’t wait to explore it more,” she gushed. And would she ever be up for more Big Brother, either abroad or at home in the States?

“Hell no!” Courtney assured us.

Anyone Who’s Worked in Service Industry, This Is For You.

DD-Employee

My blood boils when watching this video, so be warned, yours might too, but I have managed to find some humor in it as well. Lots actually.

Some people are snot-nosed little bitches who feel entitled to everything, who don’t take others into consideration, who are drama queens and who test boundaries then wonder why trouble always seems to find them. (Some of them even have business degrees!) This trashy, gravel-voiced little brat is one of them. Let’s call her “Trixie” because she is about as classy as a trailer park trick.

Trixie is a frequent customer of Dunkin Donuts and knows the company’s policy of getting a free meal if an employee fails to give you a receipt. Trixie didn’t get a receipt last night, which she probably noticed right away. She was probably hoping and praying for the employee to forget it, and when they did, it was like winning the almighty lottery.

Service Industry Nightmare

Trixie wanted her free food. The employee told her she could get free food on her next visit. Trixie was not happy. She wanted her food NOW. When she didn’t get it she probably threw a fit and decided to return the next day and go on a racist, bitch march to get her free food.

When she did, this is how she acted.

Not sure what is more incredible, the fact that a grown woman could act like that and NOT KNOW that she is absolutely disgusting -OR- the guy behind her in line, completely spineless, who’s blown away at the trash he’s encountered while only wanting a goddamn cheeseburger.

Other hilarious points I hope you didn’t miss:

—Trixie called her lawyer about the situation, and he’s already on it.

—She will go easy on DD by not ordering everything her “carload” of people ordered yesterday. Instead, she’ll simply order…

Her Order:

Strawberry Colada, Small
Two Croissant Bacon Cheese – No egg, crispy bacon
Two Egg wraps with bacon egg & cheese
Bagel with Cream Cheese – Toasted Twice
Iced Coffee, extra sugar, extra cream. “I’ll pay for it.” Then she decides she doesn’t want to pay for it. “I’ll just have an ice water.”

—She had a business degree, until “that bitch” completely pissed her off last night.

–That awkward silence between 4:45 – 4:54.

—At 4:55 “Should I tell this lady?” asks Trixie. It’s a man though. With boobs.

Service Industry Nightmare Video Dunkin Donuts

—Trixie smelled pee in her fries once. She wouldn’t be surprised if they were pooing in it right now. So she’s not eating it. She’s giving it to her boyfriend, Rob.

—She gave Dunkin Donuts good reviews online. Ten at a time. More than 100 total.

That was kind of exhausting, wasn’t it? Don’t be a Trixie. Instead, be like 18-year-old Abid Adar, who was the employee who had to deal with that monster. Dunkin Donuts is recognizing his tremendous patience and kindness when dealing with Trixie (real name Taylor Chapman) and they released a statement regarding the incident:

We commend the franchisee’s crew member for handling this difficult situation with grace and patience. We believe this is a powerful example of great customer service and the respect our crew members have for our guests. The franchise owner of the restaurant has reached out to the crew member privately to express and demonstrate his personal appreciation. Additionally, Dunkin’ Brands’ leadership has reached out to the two crew members featured in the video. Both have been invited to an internal company event in Boca Raton later this month for further recognition.

And the internet also recognizes the obvious as well.

Someone throw a bucket of water on that witch.

Kelly Rowland Gets Emotional Over Her ‘Dirty Laundry’

kelly rowland

Y’all know I love Kelly Rowland‘s new single ‘Dirty Laundry’ – it’s way better than anything Beyoncé is doing right now, which actually pains me to say. The press made a big to-do over the track because in it, she reveals that she struggled with jealousy when Bey got more successful than her and that she was in an abusive relationship. In a just world, the latter would be the bigger revelation, but it’s showbiz, so of course everyone would rather focus on how catty women can be. (For the record, big ups to Kelly for admitting that she was envious and for getting her shit together enough to maintain their friendship.)

In any case, Kelly performed ‘Dirty Laundry’ in Washington DC over the weekend and broke down in tears on stage in the middle of it. I can imagine it’s cathartic to let out something you’ve kept in for so long, and also to reflect upon something so damaging and life-changing as an abusive relationship that you finally managed to get out of. After all, many women (and men, yes) aren’t so lucky.

Here’s the video of Kelly’s performance below. What do you guys think of the track?

New Music: Beyoncé Is a “Grown Woman”, In Case You Missed It

beyonce

Alright, y’all know I’m a Beyoncé fan, so I’ve been looking forward to hearing some new music for a while. We’ve had glimpses into the stuff going on in the BeyHive, sure, but now a song has leaked in full and it’s… eh, it’s okay. Maybe it’s a grower?

‘Grown Woman’ features in all the Pepsi ads she’s been doing, so you’ll likely have heard bits of this before. She’s also been performing it at some of her recent stops on the Mrs Carter world tour, so it’s not really all that “new” at this point (THANKS, INTERNET). I dunno, what do you think?

Either way, it’s nowhere near as good as Kelly Rowland‘s new single, ‘Dirty Laundry’. I never thought I’d hear myself say those words.
