Heidi Montag: Lauren Conrad isn’t as rich & successful as she should be

I actually like Lauren Conrad and her brand. Whenever I’m in Kohl’s, I’m drawn to her stuff and it’s genuinely very cute. Basic? For sure. But a lot of people have made a lot of money off of being pretty, basic and uncomplicated. That’s LC and her brand in a nutshell. So, Heidi Montag – LC’s old costar/frenemy on The Hills – shared some thoughts about LC, her brand and where Montag thinks she should be. And weirdly, I kind of ended up agreeing with Heidi Montag? What in the world? Montag was being interviewed on the Call Her Daddy podcast and here’s some of what she said:

Heidi Montag thinks that Lauren Conrad, 35, should have gone on to become the most successful “Hills” alum, but “she is not where she should” be “at all” these days.

“Kristin [Cavallari], let’s be honest, is the most successful,” Montag told host Alex Cooper on Tuesday’s episode. While Conrad’s net worth is reportedly valued at $40 million thanks to multiple fashion lines, a beauty brand and nine books, Montag believes her former co-star should have been as successful as billionaire Kylie Jenner.

“I feel like Lauren didn’t make it like she should have,” Montag said. “She should be Kylie. She was so good at makeup. She should have…ndone tutorials. If she had a good team, she’d be a billionaire, she’d be a hundred millionaire. She is not where she should have been at all… She has a Kohl’s line — great, whatever. But she should be a hundred millionaire. Are you kidding me? Who gets that big promotion, that big fame, that big engine behind her, the loved one, the this-and-that, the narrator? No one even gets the narrator show. Kylie didn’t get a narrator show. She should be so rich.”

Montag added that she looks at Conrad as the “Mary Tyler Moore” of their time, explaining that MTV wanted her to be “vanilla.”

“Everyone [had] drama around her and she’s like the sacred one,” she said.

I don’t think Kristin Cavallari is more successful, at least not when it comes to brand-awareness and how much their brands are actually worth. I think Cavallari and LC are probably close to equally successful in their own ways. But Montag is right – LC’s empire should be bigger, all things considered. Lauren had great people around her, she had her father managing much of her business in the early days, and as I said, I actually think she has a nice, comfortable, vanilla brand. Her brand is basically a “Live Laugh Love” sign, but with lifestyle, clothing, jewelry & all forms of home decor. Why isn’t LC a bigger deal?

Dance moms
We’ll just let Maddie Ziegler, arguably the show’s top performer, lay it right out for you, courtesy of an interview with USA Today: “The producers set it up to make us all yell at each other. You know how I said that moms do fight? The moms have a fake fight sometimes. Afterward they just start talking and laugh about it.” Host Abby Lee Miller really does suck, however. that’s not fake.

2. House Hunters

House hunters
Bobi Jensen blogged in 2012, on a site titled “Hooked on Houses,” that her experience on House Hunter was totally contrived. Turns out, the couple had selected its home prior to appearing on the show and producers even changed Jensen’s story over why she was moving.

3. Breaking Amish

Breaking amish
Can we change the title of this TLC series to “Having Already Broken Amish?” After the very first episode aired, it came out that most participants had already left their Amish family for the bright lights of the big city.

4. Storage Wars

Storage wars
Dave Hester, a prominent presence on A&E’s Storage Wars, left production and sued the network over the phony aspects of the show. He said producers loaded units up with items to give each episode an artificial angle and that they even funneled money to teams to keep each episode’s bidding competitive.

5. Ghost Adventures

Ghost adventures
Ghost Adventures star Aaron Goodwin was fired in 2014 after he stopped by the podcast Are We Alone and explained how the network staged reactions, sound effects and other aspects of the program. He said it was “sickening” that he was part of such a “fraud.”

6. The Hills

Lauren Conrad Bans Body-Shaming Terms: Skinny & Thin from Her Website

FFN_f_51526493

Lauren Conrad is, among others, the owner of a lifestyle website and her June theme is “Shape Up” – and besides tips and fitness inspiration, she vows to stop using ‘body shaming’ terms such as ‘skinny or ‘thin’. Here’s what she says:

It’s that time of the year again… swimsuit season. I make an effort to eat healthy and exercise all year round. But when summer hits and the layers of clothing come off, fitness becomes even more of a priority for me. So with that in mind, our June theme here on LaurenConrad.com is going to be Shape Up. You can expect all the great fitness content you’ve come to know and love here on the site, including my LaurenConrad.com Bikini Boot Camp series. But, you’ll also notice one key difference…

When we’ve talked about getting in shape in the past, words like ‘skinny,’ ‘slim,’ and ‘thin’ have often come up. Starting this month, we’ll be banning any body shaming terms from the site, and replacing them with words like ‘fit’ ‘toned,’ and ‘healthy.’ We try do to this for the most part anyway, but now we’re making it official! The word skinny will now be reserved for skinny jeans. My editorial team and I had a long talk about it, and we want to make sure that the focus is on being fit as opposed to a number on the scale. Every body is created differently–and healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes.

What do you think about Lauren’s initiative? Share your thoughts!

Lauren Conrad Brings the Quote of the Day

Lauren Conrad Brings the Quote of the Day | lauren conrad celebrity quotes

On how she stays in shape:

“I’m not a huge fan of the gym, to be honest. When I have to go to the gym and put an hour in, I’m just staring at the clock. I just like getting out, like going on a hike, going on the kayaks, going for a run on the beach. I really love food. I’m not good at dieting. I try to make smart choices but just eat a little bit less. I am all for body confidence, but I am even more for living a healthy lifestyle. Treat your body right, exercise, eat healthy, and then feeling confident in your bikini.”

… says 28 year-old Lauren.

Lauren Conrad: “I used to hate my legs”

On body image:

“I’m so jealous of people who completely love their bodies. I think most women have trouble areas as well as areas that they like. So you play up your favorite parts and learn to dress around the others. I used to hate my legs, but now I always wear minis. It was an accident. In an effort to look taller, I started wearing really high heels with shorter skirts and ended up showing off my legs a lot.”

… says Lauren in Comopolitan Magazine.

First look: Lauren Conrad is Cosmopolitan’s January 2014 cover girl!

Newly engaged Lauren Conrad graces the January 2014 cover of Cosmopolitan, which hits newsstands on December 3rd. “I had no idea it was coming. I thought he would wait until he finished law school,” Conrad dished to the magazine about her engagement to William Tell.

“William hates it when I say this, but he really is a very nice guy, and when you meet a nice guy who also manages to keep your interest, that is the dream…If you’re going to settle down, it should be with someone you can’t stop thinking about. Especially if you’re in your 20s. If I were single in my 60s, I would totally settle. I would!” she dished.

Conrad has booming fashion lines and is the author of several best-selling books, yet she told Cosmopolitan she does regret some of things that happened with her friends while on Laguna Beach and The Hills. “Being on television all those years, I got to view my own behavior. One thing I realized is that I was too hard on my friends when it came to guys. Instinctually, I wanted to protect them. But then you come off as judge-y and people are reluctant to come to you with a problem. I had to cut ‘I told you so’ from my vocabulary.”
