Joe Biden’s amazing DNC speech: Donald Trump is full of ‘malarkey’

We’re going to do several posts from Day 3 of the DNC last night, because unlike the strange lull of Day 2, Day 3 was full of barn-burner speeches and it was amazing. First, Vice President Joe Biden came out and Ol’ Handsome Joe was in rare form. He was so great, in fact, that people were sort of wondering aloud if this election would have been a lot different if Biden had run this cycle. He said last year that he just couldn’t run again so soon after his son’s passing, and I respect his decision. But it was still bittersweet, because Biden lives to serve his country. Biden’s speech was sad, funny, optimistic and he threw in some old-fashioned “malarkey” just for good measure.

He fit a lot into a speech that was less than 20 minutes long. He made a passionate endorsement of Hillary Clinton and a particularly pointed takedown of Donald Trump. Biden actually delivered one of the most cogent assessments of Trump too:

“His cynicism is unbounded. His lack of empathy and compassion can be summed up in a phrase I suspect he’s most proud of having made famous: ‘You’re fired.’ I’m not joking; think about that… He is trying to tell us he cares about the middle class. Give me a break. That’s a bunch of malarkey!! I know I’m called middle-class Joe, and in Washington that’s not meant as a compliment. It means you’re not sophisticated. But I know why we’re strong. I know why we have held together. I know why we are united. It’s because we’ve always had a growing middle class. This guy doesn’t have a clue about the middle class — not a clue. He has no clue about what makes America great. Actually, he has no clue… No major-party nominee in the history of this nation has ever known less or has been less prepared to deal with our national security.”

On Morning Joe this morning, they talked about how Day 3 was “appeal to swing voters and disaffected Republicans” Day. Could be. After Biden spoke, Mike Bloomberg came out. Bloomberg used to be a Republican, then an Independent, and now I’m not even sure. He’s Independent-Dem. I usually think Bloomberg is a charisma vacuum, but I ended up enjoying the hell out of Bloomberg’s speech. It was a glance of how actual rich people view Donald Trump: they think he’s stupid, gauche and a terrible businessman. I don’t know who wrote this, but it was a surprisingly great speech.

Apparently, Bloomberg ad-libbed the line “let’s elect a SANE, competent person…” That was a huge applause line.

Dance moms
We’ll just let Maddie Ziegler, arguably the show’s top performer, lay it right out for you, courtesy of an interview with USA Today: “The producers set it up to make us all yell at each other. You know how I said that moms do fight? The moms have a fake fight sometimes. Afterward they just start talking and laugh about it.” Host Abby Lee Miller really does suck, however. that’s not fake.

2. House Hunters

House hunters
Bobi Jensen blogged in 2012, on a site titled “Hooked on Houses,” that her experience on House Hunter was totally contrived. Turns out, the couple had selected its home prior to appearing on the show and producers even changed Jensen’s story over why she was moving.

3. Breaking Amish

Breaking amish
Can we change the title of this TLC series to “Having Already Broken Amish?” After the very first episode aired, it came out that most participants had already left their Amish family for the bright lights of the big city.

4. Storage Wars

Storage wars
Dave Hester, a prominent presence on A&E’s Storage Wars, left production and sued the network over the phony aspects of the show. He said producers loaded units up with items to give each episode an artificial angle and that they even funneled money to teams to keep each episode’s bidding competitive.

5. Ghost Adventures

Ghost adventures
Ghost Adventures star Aaron Goodwin was fired in 2014 after he stopped by the podcast Are We Alone and explained how the network staged reactions, sound effects and other aspects of the program. He said it was “sickening” that he was part of such a “fraud.”

6. The Hills

The hills

Will Michelle Collins be fired from The View after her comments dissing nurses?

There were a ton of stories about The View and the nursing debacle over the weekend but we didn’t cover them due to the Emmys. Plus, you know, it’s The View. It’s hard to care too much about whatever is going on with that show. The last time we covered this, nurses were up in arms over the fact that panelists Michelle Collins and Joy Behar had made comments seemingly dissing nurses. They were discussing a Miss America contestant, Miss Colorado Kelley Johnson, who gave a monologue during the show’s talent competition discussing her career as a nurse. Johnson told an anecdote to make the point that nurses are life savers who make a difference in people’s lives. It was a clever and unique talent entry that highlighted her career, but Collins and Behar didn’t see it that way. Collins said “that’s not a real talent,” while Behar asked the ignorant question “why does she have a doctor’s stethoscope?” Both women later apologized, but the damage was already done. Multiple advertisers dropped out of the show, citing the hard and important work that nurses do. Companies including Johnson & Johnson, Snuggle, Eggland’s Best, Party City and McCormick publicly cut ties with The View following the backlash.

What’s more is that Nicole Arbour, the professional troll whose “Dear Fat People” video went viral, was a guest on the show last Wednesday, the day that Collins and Behar apologized. She later claimed that Collins continued to talk smack about nurses backstage, quoting Collins as saying “That’s not a real profession. They want to be doctors.” View reps have denied this by stating that Collins was never backstage that day.

On Thursday, The View ran an episode in which they “celebrated and thanked” nurses. In the segment I viewed, they invited two nurses on and basically sucked up to them as they explained how vital and heroic their work is and how they don’t get the respect they deserve. Collins fell on her sword during that segment, saying that “as a result of this situation I didn’t understand the challenges facing nurses and the need to improve how people view and appreciate what you guys do. I’ll be honest I think the comments made Monday kind of played into that and I’m sorry about that.” One of the nurses then explained how physically, mentally and emotionally challenging it is to deal “with life or death situations on a daily basis.” She said that her work can “take a toll on you” and that it can be hard to disconnect and leave that stress at work. Behar also joked that “one thing that became abundantly clear to me this week is that nurses wear stethoscopes.

Despite all the attempts to make up for their original comments, there may be some additional fallout. Radar reports that Michelle Collins’s job is on the line. She’s only been there permanently since July and one of her last jobs was running VH1′s BestWeekEver.tv site. (They used to link us so I’m inclined to defend Collins. I’m telling you this to be transparent.) She also co-hosted The Gossip Queens on VH1. An insider tells Radar “ABC is looking to get rid of Michelle. She has not been testing well with viewers for weeks, and they’ve been trying to find an excuse to cut her.” The View has denied this on the record and tells Radar that Collins has “a bright future” on The View. I don’t know, it seems like they should give Collins a chance. They want people who will talk some smack and bring enough controversy to get headlines, just not enough to piss off an entire contingent of the population and lose advertisers as a result. If Collins really did say “that’s not a real profession” that’s inexcusable, but Nicole Arbour is making those claims. That lady lacks credibility.

Whoopi Goldberg on Bill Cosby: ‘He has not been taken to jail. So, back off me!’

Earlier this week, ten year-old testimony from Bill Cosby was released in which he admitted drugging women with Quaaludes so he could sexually assault them. Deadline did some digging and came up with some related news — CAA dumped him as a client last fall when the scandal broke. An agency official told Deadline, “We do not represent him at this time.” Sure enough, Cosby’s name has disappeared from CAA’s public speakers roster. He still has a publicist and lawyers, so he’s not alone, but Cosby will never find another reputable agent again.

Whoopi Goldberg is steadfast in her support of Cosby. We talked yesterday about her claim that there was no real proof that Cosby raped the 40+ women who’ve come forward. Whoopi’s statements on rape are always the worst. Long ago, she defended Roman Polanski. Now Whoopi doesn’t even believe that Cosby’s own admission points to rape. Whoopi ranted again yesterday. She still believes in Cosby’s innocence, and she feels personally persecuted too:

Whoopi feels attacked: “People have been coming after me and saying they’re going to snatch my family. It’s like being Frankenstein, people coming after you with the fire and they’re going to burn you. Not any of you threatening me or telling me you’re coming after me because you don’t like what I said is going to change the fact that no one has convicted him, he has not been arrested. The bottom line is, that’s the law. Innocent until proven guilty.”

She doesn’t believe the victims: “We all have a very important role to play when it comes to abuse and rape. If it’s true the person has to be taken to nth degree of the world and punished. No one here thinks rape is good. No one here thinks rapists are fun. So, don’t come after me like that, ’cause I’m sick of this bull. Here’s the bottom line, for me: It’s my opinion. And the American courts agree with me, because still he has not been taken to jail or trial on anything. So, back off me!”

Most people can’t believe that Whoopi is still defending Cosby and (pretty much) saying the victims are making things up. Cosby victim Janice Dickinson is very disappointed in Whoopi: “What is wrong with you, Whoopi Goldberg? What more does it take? You need to be fired. How dare you sit there on The View? You need to be fired, you stupid woman. That is ridiculous.” Also, both Whoopi and Camille Cosby need to stop acting like Cosby is the victim.

One more thing. The newly revealed testimony could open the door for one known accuser, Chloe Gains, to file criminal charges before the statute of limitation expires. Gains accused Cosby of sexually assaulting her in 2008 at the Playboy Mansion.

Josh Duggar asks for prayers for himself, not his victims, in FRC resignation

JD3

The earlier Josh Duggar post was full of information that broke over the course of Thursday, and there were so many stories, the timeline of horror sort of got lost. Josh Duggar began molesting girls in 2002 and 2003, when he was 13, 14 and 15 years old. Jim-Bob Duggar learned about this in 2002 when a “minor female” (like one of his daughters) came to him and said Josh had been molesting her at night. The Duggar parents did not alert authorities and Jim-Bob did not “turn in his son.” Jim-Bob did take Josh to a friendly cop in 2003 (following more incidents of Josh molesting girls) and the cop told Josh it would be fine and that was the cop who later went to jail for child p0rn. The official police investigation wasn’t started until 2006 and that was because Oprah’s Harpo Studios got the ball rolling. Just FYI, in case anyone was confused about the timeline.

So, what’s new? As I said in the previous post, Josh resigned from his position as Executive Director for the ultra-conservative and ultra-right-wing Family Research Council. The FRC’s raison d’être is heterosexual two-parent families, plus no abortion or reproductive rights whatsoever. Josh’s position with FRC has made him a lot of contacts in the deepest Republican circles. And a lot of those Republicans are now going to have to back away from the Duggars? That should be fascinating. In any case, People got their hands on Duggar’s resignation letter from the FRC and see if you notice anything interesting:

I deeply regret that recent media reports about my long ago past has brought negative attention to FRC Action and its work to preserve and advance the interests of family, faith, and freedom in the political arena.

FRC Action’s mission to fortify the traditional foundations of civil society is more important now than ever before, and I’m heartbroken that any attention has been diverted from these noble causes to my wrong actions as a young teenager. I am so thankful for God’s grace, forgiveness and redemptive heart that allowed me to transform into a man of faith and testimony.

In good faith I cannot allow Family Research Council to be impacted by mistakes I made as a teenager, so I am resigning as Executive Director of FRC Action. I will continue to pray for the advancements of the causes we believe in and I hope that in the days ahead you will pray for me and Anna as we seek God to discover the next chapter of our lives in His service.

Sincerely,
Joshua Duggar

[From People]

Why should anyone pray for Josh Duggar? Why not pray for the multiple girls he molested? In no space of all of the Duggars’ letters and statements has there been any concern for the victims of these crimes. And the language Josh uses is that of a self-pitying psycho who doesn’t understand that HE is not the victim here. People Mag also published the resignation-acceptance letter from the FRC, which brings up another point: surely an admission of multiple counts of child molestation is reason enough to be FIRED, right? Why was Josh able to “resign”? This is a perfect case of needing to be fired for cause.

As for the questions of what TLC knew and when… I don’t know. If Harpo Studios got one anonymous email and they managed to follow through on it, what are the chances that TLC also got some anonymous emails? TMZ also reports that Mama June Shannon is pissed off that TLC came down so hard on her (they canceled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo following June’s relationship with a convicted pedophile) while simultaneously backing a family with a serial child molester as one of the reality show “leads.” I’m not going to get into an argument over who is the worst person, June or Josh. Let’s just say they’re both pretty disgusting people and neither of them should be a part of a reality show.

Snoop Dogg was brutally mean to Iggy Azalea in the strangest feud

Snoop Dogg

I’ve reached the point where Snoop Dogg’s charming ways cannot resurrect any ounce of goodwill for him. The sad thing is that his behavior towards Iggy Azalea is what caused me to put down the Snoop pipe. He’s been acting weird for months though. His latest alter ego was a white guy named Todd, which wasn’t offensive but just dumb.

Snoop’s latest antics arrive after Iggy Azalea dared to walk outside without makeup last week. She looked very young and fresh even though her zipper-sweater was dreadful. Snoop decided to make fun of Iggy’s makeup-less face. Snoop mercilessly did so by Instagramming this photo. Pretty brutal, right? I don’t know what prompted Snoop to be so rude.

Iggy should have ignored Snoop’s trash talking. Instead, she fired back with a now-deleted photo of Snoop that described him as “when your drug addict aunt gets clean.” This was a childish response but nowhere as mean as Snoop’s first shot at her.

Snoop Dogg

Then things got super nasty. TMZ has a NSFW video of Snoop calling Iggy the c-word and the n-word; he said Iggy’s boyfriend, Nick Young, should “put her in check.” Nick had a response for Snoop:

Snoop wasn’t done. He Instagrammed this picture of Iggy photoshopped into a White Chicks 2 advertisement: “Ok last one n Imma leave the bitch alone!! Hahahahahah So says Todd.” Then came another photo: “Iggy was a man So says Todd. Hahahahahahah goodnight bitch !! Kangaroo yo pink punk a** bac to the land down unda !!

Ugh. This nonsense did not go over well. It was obvious that Snoop wasn’t going to stop on his own, so Iggy’s mentor, T.I. called Snoop on the phone. They exchanged words. Snoop posted an apology video yesterday afternoon.

Well. It’s nice that Snoop posted an apology video, but it’s sad that it took a call from T.I. to make him behave. Iggy tweeted in response, “I appreciate the apology @snoopdogg.” And this bizarre feud has come to an end. Maybe? Snoop was wayyy out of line here.

Oh, and Azealia Banks tried to jump into the feud too, but everyone ignored her.
