As we discussed yesterday, Lamar Odom is improving. Considering how bad everything looked for Lamar on Tuesday and Wednesday, his slowly unfolding recovery seems nothing short of miraculous. Sources told E!, TMZ and People over the weekend that Lamar is breathing on his own, he’s off the ventilator, and he’s responsive to questions, which seems to indicate that neurologically, he’s doing well. But Lamar is still experiencing renal failure and if he does recover to some degree, it will be a very long process. Here’s what People Mag is saying:
While Lamar Odom continues to recover from his medical crisis last week, estranged wife Khloé Kardashian “won’t leave his side,” a source tells PEOPLE.
“She wants to be there so that whenever he opens his eyes, he sees her,” the source says.
Kardashian, 31, “is happy he is off the ventilator and is breathing on his own, but she is still scared and still concerned,” a family source also tells PEOPLE. “He’s woken up and his heart is stronger, but there is still concern about his organs.”
Both sources confirm that Odom, 35, is no longer on a ventilator. “Things are looking brighter,” the family source says. But Odom has not been texting, the source says. He has been able to talk, though it’s unclear how much, the family source says: “I think it’s minimal.”
Odom awoke Friday from a four-day coma, after he was found unconscious Tuesday at a Nevada brothel. Cocaine and opiates were found in his system and he had suffered multiple strokes, PEOPLE confirmed.
“His organs still aren’t that strong,” the family source says, adding that “they don’t know the damage. Lamar still has a way to go,” the source says. “It’s promising, but he is not home-free.”

Sources are telling TMZ similar things, that his condition is promising but his recovery will take months. Sources say that the doctors believe “an undetermined amount of damage to his body will be permanent” and that Lamar will need months of physical and speech therapy. Sources also say that Khloe is determined to be with him the entire way, “say she has vowed to stay with him through the entire ordeal … and that includes all therapy.” TMZ also notes that since everything with Lamar has gone down, Khloe has not mentioned anything about her boyfriend James Harden. Which… I mean, is anyone judging her for that? Khloe and James have only been together a few months and it had “fun fling” written all over it. Of course she’s focused on Lamar right now.
