Kelly Rutherford to Elle: ‘I hope that this story will be an example to others’


Kelly Rutherford is breaking her silence after losing custody of her children to her ex husband, Daniel Giersch, following a ruling this November in Monaco. She covers the Romanian edition of Elle, and judging from the quotes that have been released so far, Kelly throws some shade but only speaks in general terms about her custody battle. She makes it sound like an epic battle in which she’s serving as a martyr for the cause, which is how she’s framed it to the press for years. The fact is that she kidnapped her kids and made a series of moves attempting to cut her children’s father out of their lives before she finally lost custody. Here’s what she said:

“Children need both parents. You do not want to make them suffer. I hope that this story be an example to others. … Now, I want them to be happy, to know that they are loved. No matter how long it takes this, I want them to know the truth.”

In the Elle article, Rutherford recalls her own parents’ divorce and how she realized if her mother was happy, “everything was okay in the world.”

“I know that if I find my peace, they will benefit,” she says of Hermes and Helena. ” talk about love because I hope that is what will make them stronger. When all this is over, I hope that they will look back and have the impression that it was not as bad as it was, actually. I do not want them to feel everything. There are good people and generous and funny.”

Moving forward, Rutherford says she hopes to use her story to raise political awareness of cases like hers and continue to work with her advocacy organization, the Children’s Justice Campaign.

“Perhaps activists will increase because of this situation,” she says. “I hope that something good will come of it.”

 

Kelly now gets €3,000 a month to visit her kids and has been posting Instagram photos of her vacations in Switzerland, Italy and France. She’s probably making some cash selling her story too, but if she tries to write a book or a screenplay it’s likely that Giersch will shut that down fast.

Kelly has posted a bunch of vague quotes on Instagram which reference her situation. She’s probably still under gag order for her case but she’s going to say what she can to get us to talk about her.

Rob Lowe decided to tweet some offensive ‘jokes’ during the Paris Attacks

Friday evening, Paris was hit by multiple, coordinated terrorist attacks. Some of the attacks were suicide bombings, some of the attacks were strikes carried out by gunmen armed with automatic weapons. More than 120 people are dead and hundreds more are wounded. Here at Celebitchy, we tend to focus on the lighter, gossipy side of life, so I’ll just say that our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Paris and with the families affected by these tragic events.

In the coming days and weeks, I’m absolutely positive that the Paris Attacks will be affecting the celebrity/gossip/entertainment world. Within the first 24 hours following the attacks, tours, premieres and shows were already being canceled and I’m sure more cancelations will be coming. Celebrities around the world have tweeted and Instagrammed their thoughts and prayers for Paris and Parisians. I think that’s how it should be – in this age of celebrity and social media, it’s pretty easy to simply write a few words during a tragedy and mostly stay out of the way. The best thing any celebrity can do really is NOT make news during an international tragedy. Rob Lowe did not get that message.

Lowe was one of a handful of celebrities and political figures who decided to use the tragedy to make some kind of ham-fisted “point.” I’m not really sure what Lowe specifically was trying to say, but it’s just one of those situations where I have to think, “How dumb do you have to be to screw THIS up?”

Did Angelina Jolie dress appropriately to meet Cambodia’s prime minister?

Ordinarily, I find that Angelina Jolie is a model for how a modern woman should dress for the occasion. Jolie never looks glamorous in a refugee camp or war zone, nor does she wear frilly, girlish ensembles when she’s meeting with heads of state. She saves the glamour for the red carpet, and while her red carpet style can be hit-or-miss, the point is that she’s always occasion-appropriate.

I think this might be the wrong ensemble though. Angelina has been in Cambodia this week, prepping the film adaptation of First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers. She met with Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Thursday. This is what she wore – slim-cut black slacks, nude Louboutins and this totally see-through white blouse. I believe that the blouse is probably something she picked up in Cambodia, and it’s probably a traditional Cambodian peasant blouse or something. But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s so thin, we can see her bra completely.

Does it even matter though? The Cambodian government has long been supportive of Angelina, and Angelina has done a lot for Cambodia. She’s invested a lot of money in the country, including dedicating resources to a wildlife preserve and de-mining efforts. She’s done so much for Cambodia that they made her an honorary citizen several years back. So, while I still think Angelina could have, like, worn a blazer, it probably doesn’t matter.

Sources tell People Magazine that Angelina has been in Cambodia all week, scouting locations for the film. The film will “have an all-Cambodian cast and be shot entirely in the Asian nation.”

Joss Whedon quits Twitter post-’Ultron’: is it because of criticism of Black Widow?

The Avengers: Age of Ultron made crazy money on its opening weekend, which surprised no one. Even with the frankly messy and offensive implosion of many of the Avenger actors during the publicity tour, the film was always going to make a ton of money. But some of backlash surprised even me. I kept reading, on site after site, that Marvel wasn’t pushing any Black Widow merchandise. You want an Ironman action figure? Sure. You want Thor? Sure. But Black Widow – the only female Avenger – doesn’t have any merchandise. Once people actually saw the film, there was also a lot of criticism about Black Widow’s characterization throughout the film, that she’s ornamental, that she’s there to serve the men, etc.

Who should be blamed for all of this? I’d blame Kevin Feige and the rest of the Marvel executives before I’d even get to blaming writer/director Joss Whedon. But Whedon has ended up taking a lot of the blame, especially online. Apparently, people were yelling at him on Twitter all weekend and then on Monday, he decided to just delete his Twitter.

Joss Whedon and Twitter have broken up, everybody. But it’s going to be okay. These things happen, and it’s not because of something you did. The Avengers: Age of Ultron filmmaker and this particular form social media just decided they would be happier apart, and it doesn’t mean Whedon or Twitter love you any less.

The conscious uncoupling happened at some point on Monday, following the $191.3 million opening weekend of Age of Ultron, which collected the second-highest grossing three-day debut in history. (After only the $207 million opening of Whedon’s original Avengers in 2012.)

UPDATE: Whedon’s departure did create a wave of speculation on Twitter that he closed his account because of “death threats.” A search of tweets directed at him over the past week definitely turned up some deep ugliness, with some of the abusive users urging him to “die” or “commit suicide” over plot points they didn’t like in the movie. Although these comments are clearly disturbing, there was no unifying complaint or groundswell of attack beyond just the random (but all-too-typical) viciousness of anonymous social media trolls.

The Daily Beast believes – I think correctly – that Whedon hated the fact that so many fans were blaming him for the way Black Widow was handled specifically, and how Marvel didn’t seem to want to put any money in marketing their films to girls. And let’s be fair to Whedon – I really think Age of Ultron got away from him. As in, Marvel corporate took away some of Whedon’s control, and they didn’t listen to him when he was like “we need to do more with Black Widow” and “you guys, this is such a sausage party” and “where’s the Black Widow merch?”

Also – the AV Club had a great write-up about all of the in-fighting between Whedon and Marvel corporate about certain scenes and storylines in Age of Ultron. Go here to read. My takeaway? Whedon just needs a break. That’s why he deleted his Twitter. He just wanted some peace and quiet without all of the Marvel insanity.

Iggy Azalea was recently photographed in a bikini and shortly after, she dealt with a lot of criticism on Twitter regarding her ‘shocking cellulite’. Here’s what Iggy said:

(1) Just got back from a great vacation, came online and saw apparently it’s shocking and unheard of to be a woman and have cellulite. Lol.

(2) I just want to have peace and relaxation time without a perve with long distance lense hiding out taking pictures, everyone deserves peace.

(3) I feel the hatred and pettiness i see online at all times is at making me become an angry person and I cannot be that.

(4) To become nasty because of the way I feel iam treated would be a disservice to my fans and I promise i will try to keep smiling.

(5) But I also want to let my fans know iam taking some time away from social media. I need to be happy and it is too negative and draining.

Angelina Jolie sat down with Al Roker for her first post-pox TV interview

It’s consistently funny to me that Angelina Jolie refuses to sit down for interviews with Matt Lauer. She was always close to Ann Curry, and after Lauer pushed Curry out of the morning anchor position, Angelina has never sat down on the couch with Lauer. Maybe she never liked him? I have no idea. But Unbroken was released by Universal, so it’s corporate synergy for the Today Show and NBC to promote the film, so Angelina once again managed to find a way to avoid Lauer altogether. First she did an NBC special with Tom Brokaw, and then this week she sat down for her first TV interview since contracting chicken pox. Who did the interview? Why, Al Roker, of course.

“I would love to think of myself of the classic mom at home…” Interesting. She’s always said she’s a terrible cook and I tend to believe her. She’s not the mom in the kitchen, baking cookies. She’s the mom ordering Chinese food or pizzas or whatever. If you watch the interview to the end, Al Roker says that he did ask Angelina about the Sony Hack emails and she didn’t want to say anything on the record. So… Angelina gets to say “no comment” on camera (and they edit it out) and Amy Adams gets kicked off the program for the same thing? Interesting.

A few more Jolie stories…Angelina spoke to the Los Angeles Times about the decision to not include Louis Zamperini’s born-again conversion in the film – go here to read. What she says makes sense, and I agree, the logical conclusion to the film is when (spoiler?) Louis comes home from the war. Angelina also spoke to The Daily Mirror this week and she ended up talking about what it’s like to finally be married to Brad:

“What was lovely about it was that we didn’t feel there was something missing or we needed to get married. We felt so complete, and the commitment to children is one that you cannot walk away from, so we already had that commitment. It was really that we wanted to re-commit and commit in a deeper way, and we wanted to celebrate the union with our children. And it does feel different when you say, ‘my husband’ or ‘my wife’. It warms you in a different way and you look at that person a little ­differently. As soon as it was all over, we all just changed clothes and hung out. It was just a very happy time. It wasn’t this monumental change – we were just very happy and sure, and it’s quite an extraordinary feeling to be so sure. It gives you peace.”

What’s interesting to me is that in the scope of celebrity/gossip stories of 2014, the Jolie-Pitt wedding was pretty boring. I mean, there were big stories about the wedding (the out-of-nowhere announcement, the wedding photos), but if you ask me what the biggest celebrity wedding of the year was, I would have to say George Clooney and Amal. That wedding was so thirsty, it was crazy.
