Minnie Driver Was Told She Wasn’t ‘Hot Enough’ for Good Will Hunting

ffn_vcv_52179424

The full story from Variety:

Driver was asked what the rudest thing anyone in the industry had ever said to her (without naming names).

“The producer did not think I was hot enough to be in that film and did not want me in the film,” Driver said.

“… I really owe Matt Damon and Ben Affleck … [They] fought very hard for me to play that role (Good Will Hunting) and I am grateful to them to this day,” Driver said.

Driver said the comments didn’t really bother her because “‘hotness’ is a perception, and it’s really a point of view, and this dude was no picnic to look at.”

Kelly Rutherford to Elle: ‘I hope that this story will be an example to others’

Kelly Rutherford is breaking her silence after losing custody of her children to her ex husband, Daniel Giersch, following a ruling this November in Monaco. She covers the Romanian edition of Elle, and judging from the quotes that have been released so far, Kelly throws some shade but only speaks in general terms about her custody battle. She makes it sound like an epic battle in which she’s serving as a martyr for the cause, which is how she’s framed it to the press for years. The fact is that she kidnapped her kids and made a series of moves attempting to cut her children’s father out of their lives before she finally lost custody. Here’s what she said:

“Children need both parents. You do not want to make them suffer. I hope that this story be an example to others. … Now, I want them to be happy, to know that they are loved. No matter how long it takes this, I want them to know the truth.”

In the Elle article, Rutherford recalls her own parents’ divorce and how she realized if her mother was happy, “everything was okay in the world.”

“I know that if I find my peace, they will benefit,” she says of Hermes and Helena. ” talk about love because I hope that is what will make them stronger. When all this is over, I hope that they will look back and have the impression that it was not as bad as it was, actually. I do not want them to feel everything. There are good people and generous and funny.”

Moving forward, Rutherford says she hopes to use her story to raise political awareness of cases like hers and continue to work with her advocacy organization, the Children’s Justice Campaign.

“Perhaps activists will increase because of this situation,” she says. “I hope that something good will come of it.”

Kelly now gets €3,000 a month to visit her kids and has been posting Instagram photos of her vacations in Switzerland, Italy and France. She’s probably making some cash selling her story too, but if she tries to write a book or a screenplay it’s likely that Giersch will shut that down fast.

Kelly has posted a bunch of vague quotes on Instagram which reference her situation. She’s probably still under gag order for her case but she’s going to say what she can to get us to talk about her.

Tom Hiddleston has ‘no moan or soul’ in his voice, says Hank Williams III

wenn20776266

As we discussed yesterday, Tom Hiddleston made a surprise appearance at the Wheatland Music Festival in Michigan over the weekend. There were fan videos of Tommy singing Hank Williams’ song “Move It On Over,” and there was some debate on this blog (and other sites) as to whether Tommy will be able to pull off Hank’s singing voice for the film I Saw the Light. My opinion is that Tom is not a very strong singer but he still has time to work on his general mimicry of Hank Williams, and it may end up okay in the end. There’s also this video of Tom thanking the people at the music festival:

Cute. He seems genuinely nervous, even though we all know him to be a performing circus bear that will literally do anything he’s asked. But there is a disruption in the Dragonfly Empire. Hank Williams III has spoken out AGAIN against Tommy’s casting. Shortly after Hiddleston’s casting was announced this summer, Hank III told media outlets that his grandfather should not be played by an Englishman, and that producers should have tried for Matthew McConaughey. Now that Hank III has seen the Wheatland performance, he still has a hate-on for Tommy.

“Here is how you do it TOM ,You got no Moan Or Soul In your voice,” Williams III, also known as Hank3, wrote on his Facebook page along with a video of himself singing “Move It On Over.”

Hank3 sounded off to FOX411 in June when the news first broke of Hiddleston’s upcoming role.

“To do a Hank Williams movie the way it should be done you need certain aspects in the mix to make right,” the singer told FOX411 in a statement. “It goes way beyond having [an] American to play the role of Hiram Hank Williams, Sr. for it to be somewhat natural, [it] needs to be [an] American from the South who has eat lived and breathed these kind of roles before to make more respectable movie on Hank Sr.”

So who would play a good Williams? Matthew McConaughey according to Hank3.

“Matthew McConaughey would be a good person for this role is because of he has played many roles as a Southern man. And he is from the South. And that is something no amount of money or acting classes can put into a role,” he explained. “The other reason I thought Matthew would be a good fit for the role is because he has a natural arrogance, aka fire, that is needed for this role. Hank Sr. was very very sure of himself and basically very cocky. And Matthew always brings that fire to the table in every role he [plays].”

[From Fox News]

Ouch. I know the Dragonflies believe that Tommy can do anything, anywhere, at any time, but this really hurts. If Hank III is going to chime in every time Tom does anything related to Hank Williams, it’s going to hurt in the long-run. Or maybe it will just add to the publicity the film has already gotten. For the record, I have no doubt that Tom will be able to pull off the dramatic part of this role, but I’m concerned about the singing too. Sigh.

Is Brad Pitt ‘too dumb’ to be on the board of the Museum of Contemporary Art?

Granted, I don’t know much about contemporary art or how museums run, or what a museum’s board of directors really DOES. But I feel like the shade being thrown at Brad Pitt in this article is a little unfair. According to The Enquirer, Brad really wanted a position on the board of the LA Museum of Contemporary Art. Brad made personal appeals to members of the selection committee and he tried to impress upon them his knowledge of art (especially modern and contemporary art, I would imagine). But the Enquirer says all of the MOCA people think Brad is kind of dumb. Ouch. Burn.

Brad Pitt may be as pretty as a picture but he’s been deemed not bright enough to serve on the board of L.A ’s Museum of Contemporary Art! The hunky “World War Z star – a longtime enthusiast of culture and architecture – made an ambitious play for the MOCA position, but sources tell The ENQUIRER he doesn’t stand a chance at landing the gig.

“Brad’s always been a huge supporter of the museum, and it’s undergoing a management shakeup,” said a source. “So he had someone feel out members of the selection committee to see if they’d be interested in him participating at a higher level. While they admire Brad’s ambition, I think the fear is that Brad might be a little on the dumb side to serve on an art board. He doesn’t even have a college degree.”

Dad of-six Pitt, 49, dropped out of the University of Missouri to pursue his acting dream and he’s long dealt with whispers that he lives in the intellectual shadow of his 38-year-old partner Angelina Jolie, a United Nations Good Will Ambassador. While Brad knew getting the museum job was a long shot, another source says he’s still stung by the rejection.

“Brad has a huge art collection that’s worth well over $25 million,” said a second source. “He’s been collecting pieces for years and studying up on the old masters. But just because he can buy art does not mean he can curate it. Good looks and fame are simply not enough to run a huge museum like the MOCA. Fortunately, I’m sure Brad will get over it.”

[From The Enquirer]

Here’s the thing – I think Brad is kind of dumb too. Well, maybe that’s the wrong word. I don’t think Brad is, like, fall-down stupid. He’s just not as smart as he thinks he is, and I think he has issues with being able to intelligently articulate his real thoughts. That being said, I would be willing to bet that Brad knows a lot about art. I bet he’s more knowledgeable about contemporary and modern art than the average person. Plus, he’s a big “name” for a museum to have on their board, so he would bring so much visibility to the museum, and that would mean lots and lots of $$$. So why so dumb-shaming, MOCA?

Also, I’m sure many of you Brangeloonies saw this earlier in the week, but it’s worth noting: big dummie Brad had the biggest hit of his career with World War Z. WWZ has made more than $500 million worldwide and the studio will definitely make a lot of money off it. Brad’s dumb gamble paid off! Dumb like a fox. (A foxy goat.)

Zach Galifianakis Homeless Woman BFF

Zach Galifianakis took an 87-year-old woman to the premiere of The Hangover III.

Elizabeth “Mimi” Haist is not Zach’s mother, nor is she his aunt, but he has known for her more than 20-years.  He even rescued her from homelessness.

20-years ago, when no one knew who Zach Galifianakis was, he befriended a woman who volunteered at a local Hollywood laundromat. “Mimi” and Zach hit it off and the two became good friends. But after Zach became famous he stopped going to the laundromat where Mimi volunteered and the two lost touch. However, two years ago Zach found out that Mimi was homeless and living on a different person’s couch every night. He sprung into action, buying her a one bedroom apartment to live in. Zach and Mimi have kept in touch ever since.

Zach Galifianakis Homeless Woman Mimi

Zach has even taken Mimi to red carpet events, movie premieres, and he even introduced her to actress Renee Zellweger. Never mind Mimi had no idea who Renee was. Renee didn’t seem to mind, and she’s since furnished Mimi’s home, and pays for all of her groceries.

Even though you don’t see Mimi in this red carpet clip from Monday night’s The Hangover III premiere, she was there.

Just another reason to love Zach. He hasn’t forgotten where he’s come from, and he hasn’t morphed into the typical narcissistic Hollywood asshole actor. At least not yet.

Gus Van Sant REALLY Wants To Direct 50 Shades Of Grey

Alex Pettyfer betty white

Gus Van Sant (Milk, Elephant, Good Will Hunting) wants to direct 50 Shades of Grey so badly that he shot his own little sex scene starring Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike) as Christian Grey. That’s Alex Pettyfer above, with Betty White.

TheWrap notes that,

Van Sant was not officially asked by the studio to shoot a test tape. But doing so may indicate how badly he wants the coveted assignment.

lol dude, go home. Some more info:

The scene, insiders said, is when the ingénue Anastasia Steele loses her virginity to Grey.

[…]

Insiders stressed that Pettyfer was cast as Grey just for the tape, not the movie, though Universal just got into bed with the 23 year-old actor on its sexy remake of “Endless Love,” which he is currently shooting in Atlanta. TheWrap was unable to confirm the identity of the actress cast at Steele, the impressionable young woman who falls for kinky billionaire Grey.

Universal and Focus have declined to comment on any list stories, long or short, though a Universal spokesperson said that the studio isn’t out to directors or actors, nor have they commissioned any test reels. WME has also declined comment.

Okay, here is how I imagine this going.

EXECUTIVE #1: Did you just get this weird email from Gus Van Sant?
EXECUTIVE #2: Yeah. The one titled “Stripped of Virginity Scene”?
EXECUTIVE #1: That would be the one, yes.
EXECUTIVE #2: Did you click the link yet?
EXECUTIVE #1: Hell no, I’m not clicking some random link from Gus Van Sant.

The end.

As of now the only concerete 50 Shades ”greenlit” projects are videos on the internet of popular celebrities reading excerpts, like Kate Moss to raise money for charity, or Gilbert Gottfried for…whatever reason he had at the time.

Enquirer: Matt Damon’s wife and Jennifer Garner can’t stand each other, are ‘at war’

We’ve heard rumors that Ben Affleck’s wife, Jennifer Garner, and Matt Damon’s wife, Luciana Barroso, aren’t friendly. I think Lainey initially floated some of those theories, which seem totally plausible given what we know about the two women and the fact that we haven’t seen them together. In a recent Playboy interview, Matt Damon subtly threw shade at how paparazzi-friendly the Afflecks are, saying that people “are interested in [Garner] and how she parents.” What’s more is that Damon and his family moved into a mansion down the street from The Garner-Affleck compound in LA last summer. Affleck mentioned in an interview last fall that he’s over Damon’s house all the time, saying “I wonder if his wife is thinking, ‘Is he really going to come over every night?‘”

We’ve never heard about the two families hanging out together and they certainly could because they’re neighbors and they have daughters around the same age. Damon has daughters that are 6, 4 and 2 (along with a now teenaged daughter) and Affleck has daughters that are 7 and 4 along with an infant son. So you would think that the kids would be friends and everyone would be hanging out together but all we’ve heard about is Ben going over Matt’s house and bugging his wife.

That’s why I’m somewhat convinced by this story in the National Enquirer. They claim that Matt’s wife, Luciana, planned an elaborate destination vow renewal ceremony because she was annoyed and feeling competitive after Ben won the Oscar for Best Picture. I don’t think that part is true, but I believe that Lucy and Jen aren’t friends. We’ve already talked about Matt and Lucy’s vow renewal thing and I don’t think it bodes well for their marriage. If the Enquirer is right it may have not have come from a place of love and celebration or whatever:

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon may be best buds, but sources say their wives can’t stand each other!

“The two families socialize frequently,” an insider told The Enquirer.

“But despite Matt and Ben’s decades-long friendship, their wives have never warmed to each other.”

Tension reached a fever pitch after Ben, 40, won the Best Picture Oscar for his political thriller “Argo” with wife Jennifer Garner at his side on Feb. 24, sources say.

Just days later, Matt’s wife Luciana Barroso pushed him into announcing they’re planning a destination wedding in April – more than seven years after they tied the knot at City Hall in New York City.

“Luciana has always felt that Matt is more talented and way more deserving of recognition than Ben,” an insider told The Enquirer.

“It burned her up seeing Ben feted for months like he’s the King of Hollywood.”

So sources say green-eyed Luciana, 37, goaded Matt – who shares a Best Screenplay Oscar with Ben for the 1997 drama “Good Will Hunting” – into sending out “save the date” invites to their wedding.

“It was totally unnecessary, but Luciana wanted to stick it to Ben,” said the source.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, March 18, 2013]

I doubt Luciana is as calculating as all that. She’s always struck me as an “organized mom” type who is happy to be behind the scenes, and who is grateful for her husband’s success. She doesn’t seem particularly conniving or competitive. She can dislike someone without being a scheming bitch.

It’s an an interesting theory though, and I have to admit that the timing is suspect for this vow renewal announcement, right after Ben won the Oscar. I don’t know, maybe it was also when things were calming down at home for Damon’s family. Although it’s not like Damon was at any awards ceremonies this year, and he certainly could have been. He won the Ben Screenwriting Oscar with Affleck 15 years ago and yet he didn’t go to the Oscars this year when Ben’s movie was up for Best Picture. That seems a little strange to me, but they’re dudes and it’s not like Damon is the type to go to an awards ceremony when he’s not nominated. Maybe he didn’t want to overshadow Ben. Plus their wives probably can’t stand each other. If Jen and Lucy were friendly I imagine it would be different.

Matt Damon and Luciana are shown on 12-4 and 12-6-12. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are shown on 2-24-13. Credit: WENN.com
