Tom Hardy wrote a passive-aggressive open letter to HitFix’s Drew McWeeny

FFN_KM_TheRevenant_Prem_121615_51932013

Yesterday, I had some back and forth on Twitter when someone sent me a link to a “statement” attributed to Tom Hardy. As we discussed on earlier this week, Drew McWeeny at HitFix went HAM on Tom Hardy via Twitter. McWeeny claimed that Tom made reporters wait four hours for interviews, and then didn’t even deign to sit down with several outlets. McWeeny also said that this is a regular thing for Hardy during junkets and promotional tours, that he’s consistently rude, not just to journalists but to studio people, publicists, handlers, etc. Lainey pretty much confirmed that Tom is really That Guy, the celebrity who acts like a pissy, bratty baby all the time.

Anyway, back to my story – there was a claim that Tom had responded to McWeeny by writing an open letter, which Tom then handed off to his “official” fansite to publish. This… is not the way to handle the situation. It’s so odd that I honestly didn’t even believe that it was real. What movie star/actor writes out a statement and gives it to a fansite to publish? But at this point, JustJared, Dlisted, Vulture and other sites are running with it, so here’s the alleged open letter that Tom wrote to Drew McWeeny (I made some minor edits because swear words):

Rob Lowe decided to tweet some offensive ‘jokes’ during the Paris Attacks

wenn22885811

Friday evening, Paris was hit by multiple, coordinated terrorist attacks. Some of the attacks were suicide bombings, some of the attacks were strikes carried out by gunmen armed with automatic weapons. More than 120 people are dead and hundreds more are wounded. Here at Celebitchy, we tend to focus on the lighter, gossipy side of life, so I’ll just say that our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Paris and with the families affected by these tragic events.

In the coming days and weeks, I’m absolutely positive that the Paris Attacks will be affecting the celebrity/gossip/entertainment world. Within the first 24 hours following the attacks, tours, premieres and shows were already being canceled and I’m sure more cancelations will be coming. Celebrities around the world have tweeted and Instagrammed their thoughts and prayers for Paris and Parisians. I think that’s how it should be – in this age of celebrity and social media, it’s pretty easy to simply write a few words during a tragedy and mostly stay out of the way. The best thing any celebrity can do really is NOT make news during an international tragedy. Rob Lowe did not get that message.

Lowe was one of a handful of celebrities and political figures who decided to use the tragedy to make some kind of ham-fisted “point.” I’m not really sure what Lowe specifically was trying to say, but it’s just one of those situations where I have to think, “How dumb do you have to be to screw THIS up?”

Duchess Kate & Prince William added some ‘serious’ events to their calendar

FFN_Craig_Dan_FFUK_102615_51889377

Breaking Mustique Vacation News! My guess is that Prince William and Duchess Kate are going to try to make it to Mustique mid-November, possibly even late November. They won’t be able to put it off much longer, as we know it’s SO difficult to find some time to have a proper vacation for these two. The reason why they’ll have to put off their vacation until mid-November? Because they just signed on to do some events on behalf of Remembrance Sunday.

William and Kate will join the Queen, Prince Philip and other senior members of the Royal Family at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday November 7 for the British Legion’s traditional televised service. The following day, Remembrance Sunday, the couple will join other relatives at the Cenotaph, where Kate will watch from the Foreign Office balcony as William lays a wreath to mark the sacrifice of Britain’s War dead.

William, 33, will take the veterans’ salute on Horse Guards Parade after the wreath-laying ceremony which this year will also be attended by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and his wife Queen Maxima in honour of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of their country from Nazi tyranny. Prince Harry, who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan, is to join his grandfather Prince Philip at the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on November 5.

Prince Charles and Camilla will be abroad on a tour of New Zealand and Australia during the remembrance period. They will attend commemorations in Canberra on Remembrance Day, November 11.

William and Kate have missed out on some significant events in the past year along these lines, which has given many people the impression that Will and Kate are lightweights, that they are only interested in “fun” events, like Wimbledon, yacht racing, movie premieres, hanging out with celebrities and anything that involves Ben Ainslie. The fact that Will and Kate have added these appearances to their schedule says to me that somewhere along the line, someone convinced them that they need to balance those “fun” events with some serious, remembering-wars-past events.

Lena Dunham wasn’t going to pay any of the other artists on her book tour

wenn21692367

Lena Dunham’s book tour begins today. She wrote the memoir/advice book Not That Kind of Girl, which she’s been promoting all over the place for the past few weeks. She’s had glowing write-ups in the New York Times and People Magazine already, and I imagine there’s more to come. The NYT also wrote a preview of Lena’s 11-city book tour a few days ago, and they made it sound less like a book tour and more like a concentrated “festival” with other kinds of entertainment featured at each stop. Except the other entertainers wouldn’t be getting paid?

Last month, the writer, actor and producer Lena Dunham started an ambitious project. Nearly 600 people responded to an open call for video auditions on her website, including a sand artist, a ukulele player, a cappella singers, gymnasts, performance artists and stand-up comics, even some exceptionally charismatic babies. The seven who made the final cut won’t be making cameos in “Girls,” Ms. Dunham’s HBO show about Brooklyn 20-somethings. Instead, they’ll be the warm-up acts — performing free of charge — on an elaborately produced, 11-city tour to promote Ms. Dunham’s new book, “Not That Kind of Girl.”

“Three of the videos were disturbing, but the rest were super awesome,” Ms. Dunham said, adding that she spent several hours screening the auditions in bed.

In an era when author tours and splashy book parties have grown increasingly rare, Ms. Dunham has organized a traveling circus of sorts that seems more like a roving Burning Man festival than a sober, meet-the-author literary event. Prominent comedians and writers, such as the “Portlandia” star Carrie Brownstein and the novelist Zadie Smith, have thrown their weight behind Ms. Dunham and will appear on her tour as part of a carefully curated cast of artists, along with live music, poetry readings and, naturally, food trucks.

“I found the idea of a traditional author tour, where you go and stand behind the lectern and talk about yourself, I found it a little bit embarrassing, a little blatantly self-promotional and a little boring,” Ms. Dunham said. “I wanted it to have an arts festival feel, which is why we now have all these remarkable, special weirdos who I found on the Internet.”

Ms. Dunham’s critics are likely to see these highly produced spectacles as an over-the-top marketing stunt or yet another example of her inflated sense of self as an artist. Her fans are lining up, though. In less than a week, the tour sold around 8,000 tickets, which are selling for $38 at most locations. Tickets include a $28 signed hardcover of “Not That Kind of Girl,” which Random House is releasing on Tuesday.

[From The NYT]

Gawker pointed out that it’s a douche move to not pay the other performers at all, especially considering Special Snowflake Dunham got a $3.5 million advance for the book, plus she’ll get royalties and such. And this whole festival atmosphere was her idea. So after Gawker pointed out Lena’s douche move, she got on Twitter to explain:

As an artist raised by artists, no one believes more than I do that creators should be fairly compensated for their work.

This feature of the tour was meant to be a way to showcase local talent and I could not be more excited about it.

Some good points were raised and I’ve ensured that all opening acts will be compensated for their time, their labor and their talents.

The fact that Gawker pointed this out really proves Judd Apatow’s saying that “a good note can come from anywhere.”

[From Lena’s Twitter]

“The fact that Gawker pointed this out really proves Judd Apatow’s saying that ‘a good note can come from anywhere’”??? Brilliant save, Lena. You can’t tell me she didn’t know that the artists weren’t being paid and she only “ensured” their pay after Gawker pointed it out. And Lena still acts like she has the moral high ground, like she’s deigning to listen to advice from the peasants at Gawker.

The Queen ordered Duchess Kate to stop with the short skirts & cheap jewelry

wenn20867790

The Mail had an interesting piece over the weekend on a new “regal” makeover for Duchess Kate. I sort of overlooked the story because I thought it sounded like typical Middleton-family PR, but as it turns out… not entirely. You can read the full piece here. The basics, plus some subtext: the Queen is really tired of Duchess Kate dressing like a college girl in short shirts and cheap jewelry. The Queen has ordered her personal dresser to attend to Kate so that Kate will wear more age-appropriate and royal-appropriate clothes, starting with Kate and William’s upcoming tour to Australia and New Zealand:

It is three decades since Princess Diana, with a single stroke of fashion genius, took a former colony captive. In Melbourne in 1988, she paired an off-the-shoulder gown of glimmering turquoise with a strap of art-deco emeralds worn not as a choker – but as a bandeau across her forehead. She did so, it is said, because she had sunburn on her back. Nonetheless, the iconic image of stylish, youthful, modern Monarchy made global headlines and bewitched a generation of Australians who went on to vote ‘No’ in an independence referendum in 1999.

Those jewels from the Delhi Durbar Parure – a collection of Indian gems gifted to the Royals in 1911 – had been passed from Royal hand to Royal hand by Queen Mary to The Queen Mother and then to the Queen who gave them to Diana as a wedding gift. They are also, appropriately, known as the Cambridge emeralds. Now, The Mail on Sunday can reveal that the Duchess of Cambridge – who wears her late mother-in-law’s sapphire engagement ring – will be packing precisely these kinds of jewels in April when she sets out in the footsteps of Diana on a tour Down Under.

It is part of a subtle but significant regal makeover supported by the Queen. The Duchess will deploy a couture wardrobe of day dresses with lower hemlines than she has previously favoured. She will be encouraged to wear the tiaras favoured by the Queen and Queen Mother and an aide is being lined up to help with her wardrobe.

Meanwhile, Her Majesty has offered the services of her most trusted member of staff, her personal dresser Angela Kelly, to help Kate prepare for her trip. She has been tasked with assisting Kate to select statement jewelry and gemstones from the Queen’s personal collection. This forms part of a deliberate move to shift the Duchess’s image from High Street to high end, timeless Royal elegance – without losing her freshness and informality.

Ms Kelly is in a unique position to advise the Duchess, having dressed the Queen for hundreds of overseas tours and engagements during the past 20 years. As personal assistant, adviser and curator to the Monarch, her knowledge of wardrobe protocol is unrivalled.

‘Angela has been asked to start selecting jewels ahead of the trip,’ says a Palace source. ‘She knows most of the pieces in the Queen’s private collection. Her understanding is crucial because this trip will be about Kate appearing more Royal than ever – you can expect to see a lot more tiaras and the Queen will be watching closely.’

Kate is likely to require up to four outfits a day for the three-and-a-half- week trip and her clothes need to convey her status as the wife of one heir to the throne and the mother of another. The Duchess is understood to have already spoken to favoured designers including Alexander McQueen and Alice Temperley, who are designing bespoke gowns and day dresses.

Meanwhile, the frilled, girlish frocks she likes have been outlawed in case they detract from the newly grown-up image she needs to project and also to prevent any wardrobe malfunctions – such as that at Calgary airport in Canada in 2011 when a gust of wind caught the skirt of the Duchess’s short yellow dress and flashed her underwear to the world.

Statement jewels from the Queen’s personal collection are being selected for the Duchess to reinforce her sense of majesty. Among those believed to be under consideration is a diamond and ruby brooch in the form of a hibiscus flower, one of the unofficial emblems of Australia.

The Mail on Sunday understands that Kate has asked her personal hairdresser Amanda Cook Tucker to accompany her to Australia. Ms Cook Tucker has recently undergone training in the art of attaching a tiara – so that she can style Kate’s hair more formally. Miss Cook Tucker came to prominence when she did Kate’s hair before the Duchess emerged from hospital with newborn Prince George last July. She also travelled with the Cambridges on their 2012 trip to South-East Asia and the Pacific.

According to the Duchess’s spokesman, the couple’s entourage will be a similar size to previous tours. ‘It’s too early to explain what the tour party will be,’ the spokesman said. ‘We are still a long way off from finessing the details for the tour.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Fascinating, isn’t it? Taken with Prince Charles’ decision to consolidate press offices with Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and St. James Palace, it’s feeling more and more like William and Kate are going to be on tighter leash from here on out. Or is that just a pipe dream? It feels like Charles and the Queen might disagree on this – the Queen wants Kate to begin taking her responsibilities seriously, and to stop twirling her hair and flashing her duchess beav. Charles just wants everyone to stop paying attention to anyone but him. Well, at the very least, it will be good to see Kate wearing longer skirts. If that’s all that comes of this, that’s something positive.

Rihanna Is a Muslim Now, Right?

rihanna abu dhabi 7

Rihanna is still in the midst of her Diamonds world tour, and her latest jaunt has taken her to Abu Dhabi. In case you don’t know much about Abu Dhabi, it’s the capital and second largest city in the United Arab Emirates and has a very largely Muslim population (and a lot of non-Muslim expats). Rihanna, completely oblivious to the concept of cultural appropriation (see: here), decided it’d be a great idea to take off her thong and nipple covers and put on a hijab to have a fashion shoot at the Shaikh Zayed Mosque this weekend, which…. WHY? Yes, it’s required for female visitors to the Mosque – which offers daily tours to visitors – to cover their heads. It’s respectful to locals to abide by their customs, but to stage a fashion shoot like you’re the new face of Islamic culture? SMH SMH SMH.

It’s not at all surprising that Rihanna sees no problem in turning something with such cultural and religious significance to those who ACTUALLY OBSERVE IT into a lighthearted ~fashion~ thing (she literally captioned one of her photos with “Fashion killaz in Abu Dhabi”), but it’s mindblowing that no one in her entourage thought, you know, maybe this isn’t so respectful? Perhaps the cloud of weed smoke also clouded their judgment.

Y’all know I love me some RiRi, but I cannot abide this fuckery.

Tom Cruise came out to support his son and DJ, Connor Cruise, at sbe’s Hyde Lounge in West Hollywood. The Oblivion star arrived through the back entrance around midnight with his friend and music producer, Adam Anders. Cruise sipped on sparkling water and seemed very impressed as he listened to Connor spin.

Cruise was gracious to those around him at Hyde Lounge, telling nearby fans that he came out “in support of his son.” Connor was adopted in 1995 by Cruise and his wife at the time, Nicole Kidman.
