Demi Lovato: “I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body”

demiglamour-741x1024

Demi Lovato recently opened up to Glamour Magazine about body image, the lack of normal bodies in Taylor Swift’s squad and feminism:

On the negative response to her “Body Say” images:

You don’t say anything, because you can never win. Whether they’re saying that you’re ugly, or that you’re a whore, or that you’re a bad role model, or something else, you’re never gonna win.

On exploring sexuality in her image and music:

We live in an imbalanced society when it comes to encouraging male sexuality and discouraging female sexuality. In 20 years I hope we’ll look back like, Wow, that’s how it used to be.

Question: You’ve said before, in regard to Taylor Swift, “Don’t brand yourself a feminist if you don’t do the work.” How do you see yourself doing the work?

Just speaking out. I’m not afraid to talk about the fact that women get paid less than men in the United States and how unfair that is. Talking about it at all is doing the work. And I think every woman does her part in some way. But I think in certain situations, certain people could be doing more if they’re going to claim that as part of their brand. To be honest, and this will probably get me in trouble, I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body. It’s kind of this false image of what people should look like. And what they should be like, and it’s not real.

Question: Well, there are many kinds of “normal” bodies. I think what you’re getting at is there’s just one type of body in that squad.

It’s not realistic. And I think that having a song and a video about tearing Katy Perry down, that’s not women’s empowerment. We all do things that aren’t, but I have to ask myself, Am I content with calling myself a feminist? Yes, because I speak out.

Question: Do things besides a busy schedule still trigger you?

Yeah, of course. Seeing cocaine in movies. I’ve never watched The Wolf of Wall Street. I can’t. I don’t like to go out to clubs, because I find myself seeing remnants of drugs in the bathroom. I did the Victoria’s Secret Swim Special, and being surrounded by supermodels’ bodies was triggering to me. I remember asking, “How do you maintain your figure?” Some said, “I really have to work at it.” Others said, “It’s genetics.” It was interesting to hear that it wasn’t through unhealthy [behaviors]. It was a great learning experience. I still felt sexy, having a different body than these women. I had Wilmer there, who loved my curves—that helped.

Taylor Swift’s squad that lacks normal bodies, according to Demi:

Amber Rose: “Supermodels represent 5 or 3 percent of women in the world”

Last night @amsouthampton ?

A photo posted by Amber Rose (@amberrose) on

On the beauty myth:

“People have to realize that the supermodels we see represent 5 percent or 3 percent of women in the world. It’s not realistic. It’s very realistic to have cellulite and saggy boobs — it’s part of just being a human. It’s something I try to put out with my SlutWalk. There’s no body-shaming. And it really is very difficult. When you see these images, you think I don’t look like that. Embrace the skin that you are in. If you really do want to change, put your mind to it. Try to work out and eat better. I love cheeseburgers and tacos. Those are my two favorite things. I’ll probably never have the perfect body and I’m okay with that. As a celebrity now, I embrace it and I embrace my curves. I have a platform to help other women embrace it as well.”

… says Amber.

Sir Mix-a-Lot defends Blake Lively’s right to be proud of her ‘Oakland booty’

It’s been two days since Blake Lively posted this ^^ Instagram about her “L.A. face with an Oakland booty.” And for what it’s worth, she hasn’t taken down the Instagram post. Perhaps because she didn’t and doesn’t seen anything wrong with a Becky quoting a Sir Mix-a-Lot song. The “LA face with an Oakland booty” is a lyric from Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back,” a song that has an amazing shelf-life, right? Well, someone FINALLY asked Sir Mix-a-Lot what he thought about Blake quoting his song and claiming that she too has an “Oakland booty.”

I understand what he’s saying about Blake perhaps making a statement of embracing her curves and how it’s all body positive and la de da, but there IS a racial element to it, right? We’re not just imagining that. For a white woman to publicly proclaim that she has an “Oakland booty” is questionable at best. But anyway, what is Sir Mix-a-Lot going to say? Of course he likes her booty.

Beyonce: “I am not naturally the thinnest woman”

FFN_f_51748094

The full story from Us Weekly:

Not exactly earth-shattering news. Beyonce hyped a big announcement to be made on Good Morning America on Monday, June 8, releasing a teaser video this past weekend and getting fans talking about just what the news might be.

The promotional clip, which made its way online in the late hours of Sunday evening, showed Beyonce telling a camera, “This is something I have to share with everyone.” The video inspired speculation that Queen Bey was finally releasing a studio album with her husband Jay Z, or announcing that she was pregnant again, making 3-year-old daughter Blue Ivy a big sister.

The actual reveal was far less shocking. The Grammy winner, 33, made her appearance on GMA to discuss her vegan diet. She took Marco Borges’ 22-Day Vegan Challenge in 2013, and has since stuck with the meal plan, shedding inches and pounds off of her famed figure.

I am not naturally the thinnest woman,” she said in the recorded video on the morning show. “I have curves, I’m proud of my curves. I have struggled since a young age with diets. Finding something that actually works, that actually keeps the weight off has been difficult for me.
The star, who added that her skin is “really firm and a lot tighter” since trying the challenge, said the program helped her get the weight “off fast” and keep it off. She used the GMA appearance to promote 22 Days Nutrition, her meal delivery service with Borges that was first announced in February.

While some foodies were seemingly pleased with Beyonce’s highly anticipated announcement, many members of the Beyhive were less than thrilled with the apparent letdown and took to Twitter to voice their frustration.

“They had the dramatic music in the Beyonce/GMA interview commercial and she’s announcing that she only eats grass lmao,” one Twitter user wrote. Another added, “This Beyoncé announcement had me dead, I almost made it to school an hour late because I thought this GMA announcement would’ve been big,” while a third chimed in, “What a joke. Beyonce uses Good Morning America to announce she’s vegan. Yikes.”
