Trending body image story: Stunner Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir, a 20-year-old former gymnast from Iceland, was literally told by Miss Grand International founder Nawat Itsaragrisil that she was too fat for pageants and that she should stop eating. Arna refused the unhealthy request and she stated that she thinks she is “fine as I am”. More details from The Sun: Arna Ýr reportedly received a jaw-dropping message from Nawat ahead of the competition’s grand finale, which takes place in Las Vegas on Tuesday. It read: “Stop eating breakfast, eat just salad for lunch and drink water every evening until the contest. “[Itsaragrisil] is telling you this because he likes you and wants you to do well in this contest.” A stunned Arna Ýr told The Iceland Monitor: “If the owner of the contest really wants me to lose weight and doesn’t like me the way I am, then he doesn’t deserve to have me in the Top 10. Yes, my shoulders are a bit broader than the other girls’ but that is because I was a member of the Icelandic national athletics team and I am proud of that. Of course, I don’t take these comments to heart, but to do my best then hear this… Personally, I think I’m fine as I am.” The Miss Grand International contest is one of the world’s five major international beauty pageants. Ariel Winter recently opened up about her journey in front of the critical eyes of her haters, who, since she developed ‘boobs and butt’, started to attack her constantly: Ariel Winter started out in Hollywood at just 11 years old. Naturally, as she got older, her body matured — and that, unfortunately, is where the Internet got ugly. “I was called every name in the book: fat, a slut, trashy, ugly,” she tells Stylish. But she’s not tolerating that talk anymore. She’s fighting back — and educating young girls in the process. “Right after I started developing, I automatically started getting all this hate. I developed these boobs and butt, and everything changed,” the Modern Family actress, 18, tells Stylish. “And as I got older, it only seemed to get worse.” That’s why she decided to partner with Dove on its 12-year-old confidence campaign, the Self Esteem Project, which aims to inspire girls through research, education and understanding of their bodies. “What I think is really amazing about it is that we’re empowering young women to love themselves, to be comfortable with themselves,” she says. “And it’s not just about [liking] what they look like, but loving who they are.” The Sofia the First star notes that 62 percent of young girls don’t know how to use the Internet to get the information that could help them understand that when it comes to bodies, each one is unique, and there’s no such thing as “right” or “wrong.” “We’re teaching them … so we can change the scape, so they don’t have to grow up the way I did,” Winter explains. “I read a lot of the stories young women will send me about their body positivity and their body journeys, and that really helps me,” she says. “There are a lot of young women who are going through the same thing that I went through, and I think it’s important that we all empower each other. The full story from Daily Mail: Plus-size model Rosie Mercado who shed 240lbs said she was targeted by ‘fat activists’ who told her to kill herself after her dramatic weight loss. The mother-of-three from Las Vegas said she does not ‘miss anything’ about being 410lbs but that she has received hate mail directed at her transformed body. The 36-year-old, who used to be a size 34 and is now a 12/14, was told to ‘jump off a bridge and kill myself’ by people who objected to her weight loss, she claimed in an interview with TMZ. ‘I got hate mail…Not so much from the other models, just fans that hated on me. They told me to go jump off a bridge and kill myself for losing weight. Fat activists, there you go. Yeah fat activists, they just hated the thought I was really public about my weight loss and I was losing weight,’ she said. While Rosie, who now weighs 170lbs, ‘loves’ her slimmer physique and the ‘freedom’ it has given her, she said some people reacted negatively to it. She said: ‘Because I guess everybody loves to be happy in their own weight. Some people love being overweight, some people don’t. I think it’s a personal choice and you’ve just got to take it, there’s good and bad that comes with any life choice and changes so you know what? You’ve just got to let it go and not pay attention to the negative remarks.’ Rosie said her critics did not like her being ‘authentic and open’ about the changes to her body and her subsequent tummy tuck and skin removal.
