Amy Schumer on her size:

Plus size is considered a size 16 in America. I go between a size 6 and an 8. @glamourmag put me in their plus size only issue without asking or letting me know and it doesn’t feel right to me. Young girls seeing my body type thinking that is plus size?

Blac Chyna slaps back at social media criticism of her pregnant body

FFN_VEM_Chyna_Blac_051616_52059910

Here are some photos of Blac Chyna out to lunch with friends in Miami a few days ago. As you can see, she’s wearing a pretty simple jumpsuit and flats and she’s obviously showing these days. I think Chyna/Angela Kardashian just has one of those body types that “show” very quickly, like Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson. Short, curvy women are never going to carry their pregnancies like Gisele Bundchen, you know? But that doesn’t stop people from freaking out online and on social media. After these photos came online, people were criticizing Chyna’s pregnant body, because the internet is a cesspool of body shaming. So Chyna had something to say:

“To all you people out here with negative comments and insecure words (obviously because you have nothing else to do but criticize the next) I AM HAVING A BABY! Exactly what do you expect to see?! If I walked out in makeup and heels everyday to be beautiful to your means I WOULD BE MISERABLE AND UNHAPPY which are two vibes I refuse to transfer to my little one. If I comment on y’all pics and go in on them tired ass weaves or unblended ass contours I’ll be wrong right? It’ll be tragic! So stop playing & Put Some Respeck on my name.”

[Via People]

I’m including the Instagram comment below. I mean… she’s not wrong. Even when people were totally over Jessica Simpson’s back-to-back pregnancies and when everyone was laughing at Kim Kardashian’s pregnant figure, I defended those celebrity women. How tacky is it to pick on a pregnant woman? Of course their bodies are changing. Of course short, curvy women are going to carry differently than a tall model. So, if you want to talk sh-t about Chyna, do it about something other than her body.

Barbie got a major makeover, she now comes in different body types & skin colors

barbie1

Here is this week’s Time Magazine cover: THE NEW BARBIE. Or at least your choice of what kind of Barbie doll best represents your dreams and journeys. Yes, after decades of size-0, thin-thighed, blonde Barbies, Mattel has finally changed their doll in some fundamental ways. The new Barbie will be offered in seven different colors/races, with many different hair colors and three new body types: petite, tall and curvy.

Mattel will still be selling OG Barbie, but now kids will have more options. You can choose dark-skinned and petite Barbie, or tall and brown-skinned Barbie or curvy, white and brunette Barbie. All in all, there are 33 different dolls which will come out in stages. I’ll call them Bootilicious Barbie, Realistic Thighs Barbie, Nerd Barbie, Blue-Haired Hipster Barbie, Jennifer Lawrence Barbie and Ariana-Grande-Proportioned Barbie. The different body types are getting the most attention, but I genuinely appreciate the fact that they’re making Barbies with different skin tones and the dolls still get to be called BARBIE. They’re not going to call the different Barbies different names, like one called Destiny or one called Kim or whatever. All Barbies, in all sizes, in all colors.

The Time Magazine piece about Mattel’s Barbie Revolution is pretty interesting – go here to read. They’re not even really pretending that this change came from completely pure, representative intentions. You see, Mattel has seen steadily declining sales of Barbies, but from 2012-2014, sales fell off a cliff and Lego became the biggest toy company in the world, dethroning Mattel. Lego prioritized the “Lego Friends” line, which teaches girls to build and probably worked really well for parents who want to encourage their daughters to pursue STEM fields. Meanwhile, Barbie was still the same-old, same-old and that was a big problem. So the head of the Barbie brand, Evelyn Mazzocco, decided to rebrand Barbie for millennial moms. You can read about the strategy in Time Magazine here.

So, is this too little, too late? I personally think that Barbie has lasted so long because of fashion, and as long as they keep making great clothes for all Barbie sizes, I imagine Barbie will last for another 50 years. I’ve read the treatises about why Barbie isn’t feminist or why she’s blah blah blah, but for me, it was about the fashion and it was about having a womanly-proportioned doll to dress up.

Raven-Symone Was Fat-Shamed When She Was 7 Years Old

FFN_f_51782501

On being fat-shamed when she was a child:

“I remember not being able to have the bagel or anything at [craft services] – we call it crafty – where it’s just a table of food ready for you to eat whenever you want. And I remember people were like, ‘You can’t eat that. You’re getting fat.’ I’m like, ‘I’m 7! I’m hungry!’”

On body image:

“It’s more than what’s just the food – it’s what’s in the food. Your cortisol level and your serotonin level have a really strong influence on your body type. You put nasty stuff, images of women I’ll never to aspire to [in front of me], of course I’m going to get depressed. I lost weight to keep them people from talking to me. I got tired and irritated.”

See more of her next!

Size 14 Model Jennie Runk: “Being considered plus size is not something to be ashamed of”

tumblr_mmvfy5UXgI1s46f9zo1_500

On why she thinks the term ‘plus-size’ should not exist:

I definitely think our culture has put a negative connotation on the term. It shouldn’t be offensive to call someone plus size, it’s just a word used to describe a body type. It should be no more offensive than calling someone tall, short, blond, or brunette. The word itself isn’t the problem, it’s those stubborn connotations attached to it. We need to change the way people think about and react to the word. Being considered plus size is not something to be ashamed of. If that’s your body type, that’s part of who you are, and you should never be ashamed of who you are

On her boobs:

“My boobs are, like, huge. My whole life, buying a bra was a nightmare. What I used to do when I moved to L.A., I found places like Frederick’s of Hollywood that make bras for [strippers]. Believe me, I wish I had fake boobs. I lay down and they completely go down like all the way, like here…It’s not fun.”

On dressing for her body type:

“Sometimes you read in the press like, oh, Sofía is wearing again the same shape dress, and I want to answer them and say, What the f–k do you want me to wear? Obviously there’s a reason why that’s what I go for.”

Elsa Pataky: “Even when other people say, “Oh she’s too muscly” I always like it”

263F382900000578-2977031-image-a-1_1425370342172

On getting back in shape fast after having twins a year ago:

It’s definitely part genetics. I was always the little one in school,” she says. But she also happens to be mad about exercise. I mean, I love fitness, I love sports, I’ve been into it since I was 15, working my body and just building it.

On her favorite female body type – athletic:

I always admire sports bodies in women – that athletic look. Even when other people say, “Oh she’s too muscly” I always like it. I’ll never be an professional shape but I like to get as close to that as I can.

On having fitness competitions with her husband Chris Hemsworth:

He’ll hold the pads for me, although I won’t for him as he’d smash me into the wall. When he was training for Thor, he came home with this bodyfat measurer – you know, where you clip the parts where you accumulate fat? So it became a competition between us. If I had some fat somewhere I’d be like, “Grr, I’m working that part.” It’s fun, it’s just like a challenge, for no other reason that I like to challenge myself.

… says 38 year-old Elsa.
