Daniel Craig Fashion Rachel Weisz Venice Film Festival

Daniel Craig brought his Versace-clad wife to the Venice ‘Queer’ premiere

Daniel Craig brought his wife Rachel Weisz to the Venice Film Festival. Rachel is supporting him as he promotes Luca Guadagnino’s latest film, Queer. Guadagnino directed arguably one of the best “queer films” of the past two decades in Call Me By Your Name. Apparently, no one should go into Queer thinking that it’s in the same vein as CMBYN, at all. It’s based on William S. Burrough’s book of the same name, which makes it a period film, set in the 1950s Mexico City, and Craig plays an American expatriate who is stuck there AND he’s an addict AND he’s gay. You guys… wasn’t this sort of the basis for that Todd Haynes film Joaquin Phoenix pulled out of? Weird. The Haynes film was also supposed to be a detective story too, I guess that was the difference. They’re also going on and on about the graphic nature of the sex scenes, and the Haynes film was supposed to be quite graphic too. Hm,

Anyway, Rachel looked nice at the premiere. She wore Atelier Versace, paired with Boucheron jewelry. Daniel looks nice too – I actually like his longer, shaggy hair. I wish he would take his sunglasses off for red carpets, but I think he still gets pretty nervous, so he uses sunglasses and his hot wife as de facto security blankets.

A new Queer clip just dropped and I… cringed. Am I supposed to cringe? While the critical reception seems mixed, there’s also a vibe that Daniel will probably be an awards contender. Hm. I already know what his competition will say: why is a straight man playing this character?

Anne Hathaway wore Versace to the Clooney Foundation’s Albie Awards in NYC

Here are more photos from last night’s Albie Awards at the New York Public Library. The Clooney Foundation for Justice rents out the library to stage their awards, and George Clooney is so well-connected that he gets so many of his celebrity friends to come out for a good cause. Personally, I get too focused on “I wonder how much it costs to rent out the NY Public Library and stage this event,” but I guess that’s not the point. The Clooneys have deep pockets and their friends have deep pockets. Anyhoodle, I just wanted to talk about fashion – Donatella Versace attended the event and many women wore Versace, including Anne Hathaway. Anne’s harlequin-print dress was fresh off the latest Versace collection. Shall I say it? It’s not a good dress, although Anne does elevate a bad look.

The Blunt-Krasinskis arrived with the Barroso-Damons! Both ladies wore red. They’re all tight with George.

Julianna Margulies in what I’m pretty sure is Prada. The dress is really great, I just think it’s wrong on Julianna – wrong color, wrong vibe, wrong hair.

Greta Gerwig’s look was one of my favorite dresses of the night.

Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz! Daniel wore his glasses!

Sofia Vergara said PANTS.

I’m sorry but Scarlett Johansson looks awful here! The shiny suit combined with that really harsh hairstyle. Yikes.

Royalists are mad at Daniel Craig for remaining seated in Princess Kate’s presence

I love that we’re still talking about Wimbledon gossip! It’s so much fun. So, here’s the backstory – when Prince William, Kate and their two oldest children arrived at Wimbledon on Sunday for the men’s singles final, they got there later than the peasants. Most people were already seated in the stands and the Royal Box. Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz were two of the celebrities who got Royal Box seats, and their seats were a few rows behind the Wales family, who were seated in the front row of the Royal Box. Kate came barreling down the steps and she stopped and said some friendly words to Daniel and Rachel. Neither Daniel nor Rachel stood up or bowed or curtsied when they saw Kate or William or their children. Very few people did, actually, but the fact that Rachel and Daniel stayed seated is apparently a big deal:

It’s a subtle question of etiquette: when meeting the Princess of Wales, just how should royalty behave – Hollywood royalty, that is? Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden has made his views known:

James Bond actor Daniel Craig and wife Rachel Weisz should have got to their feet when Kate approached them in the Royal Box on Sunday – as a mark of respect if not plain good manners, he told his followers on Instagram.

Sharing a photo in which the Princess of Wales can be seen talking to the celebrity pairing, he wrote: ‘This photograph makes me uneasy. While there may not have been space for Rachel Weisz to curtsy or Daniel Craig to bow, shouldn’t they have at least stood up to greet the Princess of Wales? Craig could have even gone mad and removed his sunglasses.’

It should be noted that fellow actor James Norton, star of Happy Valley and War and Peace, felt able to stand up in order to greet the princess.

There’s nothing I love more than bootlickers demanding that everyone adhere to their bootlicking strategy. I’m glad Daniel and Rachel stayed seated, because who cares? The royalists keep demanding that we center Kate and her family in every Wimbledon conversation, when really… people were just there to see tennis, not perform their devotion to a racist, out-of-touch institution.

Tom Hiddleston & Zawe Ashton came out for the Wimbledon men’s final

Yesterday’s Wimbledon men’s final was jam-packed with celebrities and royals. People were really excited to see Novak Djokovic play Carlos Alcaraz on Novak’s favorite surface, grass. The match ended up being pretty classic, with Alcaraz needing five sets to get the win over Djokovic, the seven-time Wimbledon champion (who won four of those championships in a row). Tom Hiddleston came out with his wife/partner (I don’t know if they’re actually married) Zawe Ashton. Zawe gave birth to their first child last year, probably in September or October. We still don’t know anything about the kid! Zawe and Hiddles look happy but I dislike her dress so much. Designers these days are hellbent on making those puffy-shouldered monstrosities.

Everyone was obsessed with Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz in the Royal Box. So many cutaways to them! They’re so hot together.

King Felipe of Spain came out to watch Alcaraz (who is Spanish). Felipe and Letizia are big tennis fans, and they were present at Wimbledon in 2008 when Rafael Nadal won his first Wimbledon title too. I guess Letizia didn’t want to travel this weekend though.

Brad Pitt went to the final with Guy Ritchie. The Wimbledon social media account was all aflutter about this abuser. Gross.

Ariana Grande was working on Wicked before the strike, so I guess she stayed in town for the final. She was seated next to Andrew Garfield… and she was not wearing her wedding ring. Is this gossip? Because Garfield and Grande definitely looked friendly.

Is 25-year-old Jennifer Lawrence dating 47-year-old Darren Aronofsky?

wenn23573833

Back in January, Jennifer Lawrence was confirmed for a role in Darren Aronofsky’s next film, which is still untitled. The film is about “a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.” Aronofsky has written the script and he will direct it too. The film is either filming already, or it will be soon. Aronofsky was famously Rachel Weisz’s partner and baby-daddy for years, until she dumped him and married Daniel Craig. He then began seeing a Canadian woman named Brandi-Ann Milbradt, although I think that ended a few years back, maybe? I can’t find anything about her recently. And Jennifer Lawrence has been single-ish since her breakup with Chris Martin, although I think it’s more than possible that she went on some dates with Aziz Ansari. So… two single people, on a film set. What could go wrong?

Jennifer Lawrence is Darren Araonofsky’s leading lady – in more ways than one! A source tells In Touch that J-Law, 25, is secretly dating the 47-year-old director, an Oscar nominee who has a son with his ex Rachel Weisz.

“It started when they were in early discussions about the project. They began flirting, and soon they were hooking up. Now it’s getting serious,” says the source, adding that everyone on the set of the film (which is currently untitled) is buzzing about the romance.

“Jennifer and Darren think they’re being sneaky, but it’s all anyone can talk about!”

[From In Touch Weekly, print edition]

Even though it’s In Touch, it would not surprise me if this was true. Aronofsky has a thing for his leading ladies, and there were always rumors that even while he was with Rachel Weisz, he had a thing with at least one other actress. I have no idea if that’s true, let me be clear. But there were always whispers. As for Jennifer… I feel like she settles sometimes? Not with Nicholas Hoult, obviously, because he’s adorable and I think they genuinely loved each other. But I think J-Law gets lonely and she just goes for whomever is available. Oh, and it also wouldn’t surprise me if 25-year-old J-Law had a thing with a 47-year-old director. I’m honestly surprised that hasn’t happened already.

Rachel Weisz, US citizen, supports Bernie Sanders & wants higher taxes

weisz more

I love Rachel Weisz. I know some of you think she’s meh, but I really enjoy her. She’s sassy, funny and interesting, and she’s getting Daniel Craig’s business on the reg. What’s not to love? Rachel covers the new issue of More Magazine and the Englishwoman ends up chatting about American politics. Um, is she an American citizen now? Oooh, I just looked it up – SHE IS!! She talked about it back in 2012, saying: “I did it because I thought I would go back to England for a while and lose my green card. I’m not going back now but being a citizen means I can vote here which is exciting, not just being an outsider. When I come back into the country now and they stamp my passport they say ‘Welcome home, Ma’am.’ I think that’s a lovely formality. No one in England would say that, would they?” That answer is so much better than Emily Blunt’s shenanigans.

Anyway, I did know that Rachel and Daniel have a place in New York (I think they have a Manhattan apartment as well as a country home), which means Rachel is a New York voter. And she’s going to vote for Bernie Sanders! Well, well. Some highlights from More:

On how roles for women in Hollywood differ from roles for men: “Men get the more complex roles. Things have become too glossy for women. We have to be ‘likable,’ which is not very likable at all. It’s hard to like someone who’s just sweet. You want a real person, one who irritates you and mystifies you and frustrates you and makes you cry. You want everything from a character. Not to just stand there and look nice. Likability is code for ‘Shut up and look good.’”

Keeping her marriage private: “He’s just too famous. It would be a betrayal. You have to protect your marriage. When you’re young, you tell your girlfriends everything. One of the great pleasures of not being an adolescent is that you don’t have to share everything. When you’re married, that door closes. The audience goes, and you’re in your own life.”

On her support for Bernie Sanders: “As far as I can tell, Sanders is the only person talking about the poverty divide. And saying mums should have 12 weeks’ maternity leave to bond with their children. I come from Europe—I believe we should pay more taxes and have the state look after those who fall through the net. Isn’t that what Jesus would do?”

On how she feels about this time in her life: “Well, everybody’s aging, and we’re all going to die. Getting older, there’s a reality about mortality, but it’s hard to be young, too. It’s hard to not know who you are. My twenties were painful at times. Now I have wisdom and experience—I know what interests me in a way I didn’t before. I’m much more focused on what matters to me. I waste less time. There’s a huge relief in that.”

On her advice for aging gracefully: “I once did an interview with a friend, and she said, ‘Don’t you think Botox should be banned, like steroids for athletes?’ I said, ‘Yeah, yeah!’ And that became this quote of mine, when in fact I think people should do whatever they like, whatever gets them through the day.”

Star: Daniel Craig & Rachel Weisz are on the rocks, he might be cheating

wenn21254566

By Star Magazine’s records, Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz have not walked a red carpet together since spring 2014. They were never really a huge red carpet couple, and I often get the impression that Daniel views the red carpet as something akin to torture. But they did walk many red carpets as a couple, and I was actually surprised to see Rachel flying solo throughout the Cannes Film Festival last month. Granted, Daniel has been endlessly filming Spectre, the latest James Bond film, and maybe he couldn’t get away. Or maybe he didn’t want to. Sources tell Star that Daniel and Rachel’s four-year marriage is on the rocks. And then some.

Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz kept their 2011 wedding ceremony quiet, but they can’t keep their marriage troubled under wraps for much longer.

“They’re virtual strangers these days,” a source tells Star. “It’s like they don’t see the point anymore.”

On the surface, it appears ambition is driving the split. Daniel, 47, is immersed in filming Spectre while Rachel, 45, shoots a biopic about tragic yachtsman Donald Crowhurst. Absence, however, is not making their hearts grow fonder.

“They’d vowed to never let work come between them, but that’s exactly what’s happening. Gone are the days of them texting and calling each other incessantly. They’re both in England – he’s filming in London, she is Devon – but they haven’t bothered to meet up.

“She flew from NYC to London and went straight to the set. You’d think if your husband was a couple of hours away, you’d make an effort to connect.”

Insiders say that Daniel has been flirting heavily on the set of Spectre. “He clearly gets carried away with women he works with, and he’s taken a shine to one in particular,” says the source. While the source refused to divulge which of his costars he’s smitten with, the insider insists, “He’s lavishing attention on her.”

As for Rachel, there isn’t a hint of impropriety between her and her current costar Colin Firth, but people are still buzzing about her scenes with Rafe Spall while starring in Betrayal in 2013 (with Daniel as well).

Also, when Rachel threw a birthday party for her 9-year-old son Henry, Daniel failed to show up. “He adores Henry, but he’s picking work over family. They both have a lot going on and their marriage has gone by the wayside.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

Star doesn’t say it explicitly, but I come away thinking that there might be something between Daniel and Lea Seydoux, who is one of the Bond Girls in Spectre. The other choices are Monica Bellucci, Stephanie Sigman or… Naomie Harris. Damn, now I want it to be Naomie. I mean, I love Rachel and if Daniel is cheating on her then he’s a douchebag, but IF he is cheating, I hope it’s with Naomie.

As for the rest of it… I was actually surprised to see Rachel flying solo at Cannes, as I said, and I have noticed the lack of red carpet AND candid photos of Rachel and Daniel together in the past year or more. So… I kind of believe there could be trouble in hot-couple paradise. And Star is right, Daniel does have a history of screwing around with costars and screwing around on his significant other. That’s how Rachel and Daniel got together in 2010 – they both had significant others (Daniel was with Satsuki Mitchell, Rachel was with Darren Aronofsky) and they cheated, split with their partners and ran off and got married.
