Tracy Anderson: “It’s fine to have pizza. It’s fine to have ice cream”

On the biggest mistake women make after workouts: “It’s the detox to retox mentality. You have women saying, “Oh, I worked out, now I’m going to go lose all emotional control for the rest of the day, and eat pizza and a pint of ice cream.” And I’m not saying you shouldn’t eat those things. It’s fine to have pizza. It’s fine to have ice cream. You need to make sure more than anything that you’re having balance. You can’t do one good thing and trick yourself into thinking you’ve earned the right to do something bad.” On whether celebrities are better at staying in shape: “No. I think the celebrity culture is all about tricking people into wanting somebody else’s life that seems to be better than theirs. But then there’s also real entertainers and craftspeople who are all different shapes and sizes. They understand what they’re good is at is entertaining and connecting people through love of music, through escape. But I don’t think real artists care to dangle their “hot bodies” in people’s faces for commercial purposes. I don’t consider that to be a true artist. I think there’s a whole sort of breed of artist that is narcissistic and so it’s their narcissism and other people’s desires to fit in or be beautiful and accepted that these people play on to manipulate their emotions with, and I think that is disgusting.” … says Tracy. © Versus for Skinny VS Curvy, 2016. | Permalink | 18 comments | Add to del.icio.us Post tags:

Mila Kunis: ‘I’m hoping that Wyatt will learn that the word ‘want’ is not necessary’

Mila Kunis is pregnant with her second child, having welcomed daughter Wyatt into the world back in 2014. Even when she was pregnant the first time, Mila often talked about how she didn’t want her children to grow up to be a—holes, meaning that she doesn’t want to raise “Hollywood kids” with access to anything and everything. She wants to raise polite children who get told “no” a lot, because that’s how she was raised. Personally, I think there’s a 50-50 shot at the kids being a—holes anyway, just because of genetics and those kids are half-Kutcher. I also think Mila Kunis might want to check her ‘tude sometimes because she’s come across as an a—hole a few times, and kids learn it from watching their parents. So as Mila was promoting her new film, Bad Moms, Mila talked more about her parenting method. Mila Kunis is determined to keep her children grounded. The Bad Moms star opened up about her fear of raising a child “who is going to be an a-hole” during an AOL Build session in New York City on Wednesday. “I don’t want to be the person who is responsible for putting that into the world,” the 32-year-old confessed. “My one thing that I’ve always said is I just want my children to have empathy in life. I want my kids to be good kids.” And just to be safe, the Ukrainian-born actress — who shares daughter Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher with husband Ashton Kutcher and is expecting their second child — already has a master plan to avoid raising self-entitled kids in Hollywood. “I figured I’m just going to lie. I feel like that is going to be my tactic. Until the kids are old enough to like search on the Internet, which I feel like I can buy myself a couple of years, I’m just going to go, ‘Mommy and daddy are poor,’” she revealed. “They’re just going to have to suck it up because too bad that’s how I grew up, except we were poor, but it worked!” Mila, who plays the fed up mom in the upcoming movie, added, “My kid will never know what it’s like to not have fresh fruit. My kid will never know what it’s like to not have electricity… I learned at a very early age to not say the word ‘want.’ That was out of my vocabulary. It just didn’t exist, and so I’m hoping that Wyatt one day will learn that the word ‘want’ is not necessary.” [From Hello] Thoughts? It reminds me that she really was brought up with a refugee-mentality. It also reminds me a little bit of Malcolm Gladwell’s books, where he tends to argue that the kids brought up with every advantage in life are often the biggest losers. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Mila has been reading David and Goliath or Outliers, actually. Long-term, of course “telling the kids that we’re poor” won’t last, but hopefully she’ll be able to teach them that “wanting” something is different than needing something. Wanting something is also different than deserving something or earning something. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet and WENN.

Christopher Walken’s cats are his kids: ‘I think a lot of people are like that’

We rarely cover Christopher Walken, although the man is a national treasure. He’s just not controversial at all – he seems like a nice guy, everyone loves him, he loves to dance, and as we can see from this Parade cover, he loves cats. He’s promoting a family film called Nine Lives, where he plays a magical pet shop owner. Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Garner are in the movie too. Weird. Anyway, this whole interview is charming, mostly because he talks about CATS! You can read the full Parade piece here, and here are some highlights: On being a teenage lion tamer: [Sheba, his lioness in a one-ring circus on upstate New York] “was very sweet. She’d walk around and bump up against you leg, just like a nice old cat. I’d wave my whip and she would sit up on her back legs and roll over and do stuff. When we weren’t performing, I used to hang out with her and pet her.” But now he’s against zoos & circuses: “As I get older, I’m very much against zoos and, frankly, animals in captivity. Especially big, wild animals. I wish there wasn’t any such thing as ‘animal acts.’ I wish there wasn’t any such thing as zoos.” His kitty, The Cat: Walken adopted his own feral black-and-white “tuxedo cat” after she showed up on his porch one day—with her babies. “Now I have this basically wild cat that likes to be outside, but she’s friendly. When it gets cold, she comes in.” He calls her simply “the Cat.” And he and Georgianne, who have no children, have always considered their cats as their kids. “I think a lot of people are like that with their pets.” He’s the son of a German immigrant & a Scottish immigrant: “I had a wonderful childhood. Everything: food, house. But my parents didn’t. My parents really did have a hard time where they came from, and they came here and they made this great life. That’s what America is, always and still. I believe people should be able to go and make their lives as they wish. America certainly has always been that for a lot of people. As a kid, I grew up with all sorts of people, different kinds of people. To me, that’s the way it ought to be. Of course, we live in a time of dangerous things. There’s got to be a way around that without making it difficult for everybody.” On his longtime love of cats: “My cats are extremely well taken care of. Frankly, if there’s such a thing as reincarnation, it would be wonderful to come back as my cat. I’m not sure you could do better than that.” [From Parade] But what happened to The Cat’s kittens? Did the Walkens give the kittens away? Or did he bring the kittens inside and now The Cat is the only one who prefers being outside? So many questions. I actually love that he calls his cat The Cat. I did that with my dog too – my (late) puppy had a real name, but I mostly just called him “Puppy” or “Black Dog.” I’m thinking about getting another animal – from a shelter – and I do think I’ll get a cat this time. Joe Biden’s amazing DNC speech: Donald Trump is full of ‘malarkey’

Embed from Getty Images We’re going to do several posts from Day 3 of the DNC last night, because unlike the strange lull of Day 2, Day 3 was full of barn-burner speeches and it was amazing. First, Vice President Joe Biden came out and Ol’ Handsome Joe was in rare form. He was so great, in fact, that people were sort of wondering aloud if this election would have been a lot different if Biden had run this cycle. He said last year that he just couldn’t run again so soon after his son’s passing, and I respect his decision. But it was still bittersweet, because Biden lives to serve his country. Biden’s speech was sad, funny, optimistic and he threw in some old-fashioned “malarkey” just for good measure. He fit a lot into a speech that was less than 20 minutes long. He made a passionate endorsement of Hillary Clinton and a particularly pointed takedown of Donald Trump. Biden actually delivered one of the most cogent assessments of Trump too: “His cynicism is unbounded. His lack of empathy and compassion can be summed up in a phrase I suspect he’s most proud of having made famous: ‘You’re fired.’ I’m not joking; think about that… He is trying to tell us he cares about the middle class. Give me a break. That’s a bunch of malarkey!! I know I’m called middle-class Joe, and in Washington that’s not meant as a compliment. It means you’re not sophisticated. But I know why we’re strong. I know why we have held together. I know why we are united. It’s because we’ve always had a growing middle class. This guy doesn’t have a clue about the middle class — not a clue. He has no clue about what makes America great. Actually, he has no clue… No major-party nominee in the history of this nation has ever known less or has been less prepared to deal with our national security.” [From WaPo] On Morning Joe this morning, they talked about how Day 3 was “appeal to swing voters and disaffected Republicans” Day. Could be. After Biden spoke, Mike Bloomberg came out. Bloomberg used to be a Republican, then an Independent, and now I’m not even sure. He’s Independent-Dem. I usually think Bloomberg is a charisma vacuum, but I ended up enjoying the hell out of Bloomberg’s speech. It was a glance of how actual rich people view Donald Trump: they think he’s stupid, gauche and a terrible businessman. I don’t know who wrote this, but it was a surprisingly great speech. Apparently, Bloomberg ad-libbed the line “let’s elect a SANE, competent person…” That was a huge applause line. Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images Photos courtesy of Getty.

Kim Zolciak tells daughter, 19, to get lip injections ‘if it makes her happy’

Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kim Zolciak-Biermann and her daughter, Brielle, 19, were spotted at LAX on Tuesday sporting over-inflated lips. Like mother, like daughter, right? The 38-year-old reality star was in Los Angeles to work on the launch of her new skincare line, Kashmere Kollection. While she was there, she paid a visit to her plastic surgeon, Dr. Garo Kassabian. Being the social media monster that she is, Kim documented the trip on Snapchat. Dr. Kassabian is quite the in-demand plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. Kim could only get in to see him at 9 p.m. on Friday night. As she states numerous times in the video, it’s “only the best, baby” for her. The Daily Mail posted a video of Kim’s L.A. Snapchat adventure and it’s kind of refreshing to see that her videos are just as dull as those from someone not in the public eye. Kim didn’t reveal exactly what happened at the good doctor’s office, but she definitely emerged with noticeably larger lips. Of course, she’s no stranger to going under the knife, telling E! News back in May that she’s had some plastic surgery, including a tummy tuck and breast augmentation. She also thinks it’s okay to not be 100% natural, telling E!: “I will always nip and tuck if I feel the need to do so, but I’m open about it. I don’t care. You only go around one time, and I especially understand that. And life is very short, so there’s no reason for me to lie.” “If I chose a life of reality television, which is an open book, so I share with people what I’ve done. There’s no secrets. I want women to feel as beautiful as I feel, and so, with that said, it’s not all natural. My boobs aren’t natural. I had great boobs until I breastfed Brielle and then they just shriveled up to B raisins. They were horrible. So I must fix them.” LOL!” [From E! News] Kim’s 19-year-old daughter also got a lip tune-up while in L.A., visiting cosmetic dermatologist Simon Ourian. Mama Kim is completely on board with this, telling US Magazine, “She bothered me for five years about her lips. She was like, ‘I hate my lips, I hate my lips.’ So I’m like, then go fix them! You only go around this planet once. If it makes her happy, so be it.” Brielle’s lips are the star of many an Instagram selfie. After she got her first round of injections back in November, she posted her full pout with the caption, “My lips are my biggest insecurity and I’m so happy w my results now!” I thought she looked better before she started getting the injections, but that’s just me. thank you thank you thank you!!! to my favorite, @simonourianmd1 !!! my lips are my biggest insecurity and I'm so happy w my results now! ☺️ you truly are the best! even though I hate needles you made this very easy! thank you again #simonourian #epione A video posted by brielle biermann (@briellebiermann) on Nov 25, 2015 at 11:43am PST At least Brielle has lips that can enhance her duck face selfies and shameless promotional posts for sunglasses and teeth whitening kits. She did take a break from hawking things for a “stuck in Atlanta” traffic selfie. ATL traffic pt 1 A photo posted by brielle biermann (@briellebiermann) on Jul 22, 2016 at 10:49am PDT I look like that when I’m sitting in Atlanta traffic, sans puffed-out lips, of course. The struggle is real, people. I don’t know about you, but I can’t stand these crazy, puffy fish lips. That’s why God created lip liner. It’s easy to overdraw your lips a little and it’s way cheaper and far less painful. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a little nip and tuck, and if I hadn’t been so chicken in my 20s, I would have gotten a boob job, but I just can’t with these lips. Pres. Obama makes a full-throated endorsement for Hillary Clinton at the DNC

Embed from Getty Images President Barack Obama is probably the most popular politician in America right now. I don’t even think the residual love for Bill Clinton comes close. Obama’s last year in office has been bittersweet, of course, and we would be in such a different place if only Obama was running for a third term. That’s what I was thinking about last night… I wish this race was Obama vs. Trump. Because Obama would slay. On Day 3 of the DNC, the party brought out their heavy-hitters. It was a really great three-hour block of television, actually. First Biden, then Bloomberg, then Tim Kaine, then Obama. I’m not going to say that Obama gave his best speech ever, but this speech was easily in the Top Five. It was partly a farewell speech (SOB), partly a full-throated endorsement of Hillary Clinton and partly a takedown of Donald Trump. Obama balanced those three subjects brilliantly and, again, kudos to the speechwriters last night. I was genuinely surprised when Hillary Clinton came out at the end too. The biggest moment was when Obama said Hillary Clinton was the most qualified person to ever run for president: “You know, nothing truly prepares you for the demands of the oval office. You can read about it, you can study it, but until you’ve sat at that desk, you don’t know what it’s like to manage a global crisis or send young people to war. But Hillary’s been in the room. She’s been part of those decisions. She knows what’s at stake in the decisions our government makes, what’s at stake for the working family for the senior citizen or the small business owner, for the soldier, for the veteran. And even in the midst of crisis, she listens to people and she keeps her cool and she treats everybody with respect. And no matter how daunting the odds, no matter how much people try to knock her down, she never, ever quits. That is the Hillary I know. That’s the Hillary I’ve come to admire, and that’s why I can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman, not me, not Bill Clinton, nobody, more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States… I hope you don’t mind, Bill, but I was just telling the truth, man.” [Via E! News] Because the Republican National Convention last week was so ceaselessly negative and pessimistic, the Democrats were able to take over the optimism franchise. Obama’s speech last night is being called Reagan-esque, because not only did he name-check Reagan, but he honestly borrowed the shiny-eyed Reagan-esque optimism of American pride. Now, all that being said… I still think Michelle Obama’s speech on Day 1 was probably the best speech of the convention! Take about five paragraphs out of that Obama speech and it could have been a Reagan speech. Trust me. I know. — John Podhoretz (@jpodhoretz) July 28, 2016 Embed from Getty Images Photos courtesy of Getty.

Kim Kardashian & Kanye West cover Harper’s Bazaar’s September issue

Ah, it’s that time of year when we get to see the September Issue covers. It seems like they start coming in earlier and earlier. Harper’s Bazaar devoted their September issue to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The photoshoot is decent – there are a few random shots, but I love the close-up of Kim and Kanye’s faces. You can see the full editorial and interview here. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the interview. Kanye often comes across as eccentric and mercurial (if not flat-out crazy) in interviews, but doing a joint interview with Kim grounds him. And while neither of them is going to win a genius grant any time soon, I enjoyed this piece and I think people often miss the fact that Kanye has a very dark, sardonic sense of humor. Some highlights: Kim and Kanye on each other’s favorite body parts: KW: Is the face a body part? My favorite body part of Kim’s: heart. KKW: Awww, now I have to say the same. But of my own, I like my upper stomach. I just seem to always have abs. When I’m not really pregnant, I have a great two-pack. And of Kanye’s? I have to say his heart. And I’ve always loved his legs. Favorite Taylor Swift song? KW: For me? I don’t have one. KKW: I was such a fan of hers. Historical figure you identify with? KKW: This one is hard. KW: Us? Muhammad Ali, Marilyn Monroe—all day. Next question. Favorite selfie pose? KKW: I love a selfie in the mirror. KW: I love her nude selfies. Like, I love the ones from the side, the back ones, and the front. I just love seeing her naked; I love nudity. And I love beautiful shapes. I feel like it’s almost a Renaissance thing, a painting, a modern version of a painting. I think it’s important for Kim to have her figure. To not show it would be like Adele not singing. Who’s more vain? KKW: I mean, me. KW: Yeah, I think she has vanity. And with me, I don’t give a f–k, bro; it is what it is. I’m the best—now what? I don’t know if that’s a vain statement. I don’t particularly like photos of myself, though. What makes you both laugh? KKW: Kanye just says the funniest analogies that are so random. I should start keeping a book—in 20 years, I’ll have a big book of analogies. They always make me laugh. KW: Kim’s just a funny person in general. KKW: But I don’t get credit for being funny; it’s, like, not a thing. KW: I think my sense of humor is really dark and super twisted and stuff like that. It’s like, “Is this a funny joke for real? Or am I just rich?” See? That was funny. How would you like to be remembered? KKW: I’d like to be remembered as someone who was smart in business, works hard, and can be sexy and a mom. A powerful but still sexy, nonconforming woman. And I would hope that Kanye would be remembered for being smart and sticking to what he believes. KW: Determined. I would say my determination is way higher than my smartness. KKW: A lot of people have strong beliefs, but they don’t have the confidence to really stick to them. I really respect Kanye for that. Kanye isn’t an overthinker: “The one thing I don’t have an insecurity about is public perception. I’m not going to conform to it, you know? Here’s something that’s contrary to popular belief: I actually don’t like thinking. I think people think I like to think a lot. And I don’t. I do not like to think at all…. I think about things to put them in a place where I don’t have to think about them anymore. Say if I had a child with a really bad mom, I would have to think more than if I had a child with a good mom. I’m just doing my homework early. I told my trainer today, I’m a mix of a 14-year-old high schooler and a 60-year-old guy. It can never fall into the 30s or the 40s. It has to be 100 percent 60 or 100 percent 14, no in between.” [From Harper’s Bazaar] I do think this is funny: “Is this a funny joke for real? Or am I just rich?” Kanye and Kim also openly talk about his debt and how it felt good for him to talk about it openly, but it sounds like he doesn’t have debt issues anymore, probably because his collaboration with Adidas is going really well. What else? I don’t know, I just think they’re funny and they complement each other really well. There were several really sweet moments between them, like Kim saying that she lies to people all the time about how much Kanye loves to sleep, because he’s like a cat, apparently, and he falls asleep anywhere and everywhere. Ha! Anyway, start the flame war. I like Kimye. Photos courtesy of Harper’s Bazaar.
