The Guardian brilliantly trolled the British royal family for April Fool’s Day

The Guardian got me. The British paper pulled an April Fool’s Day prank and they got me. I really, really thought their “exclusive” royal report was for real, and I was even in the midst of writing it up before it occurred to me that this was an April Fool’s Day prank. You can read their hilariously trolling piece here. The gist? For more than a month, the British papers have been going HAM on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. For the most part, the royal stories have been a sideshow to the larger political conversation in the UK, which is about “Brexit.” Brexit = the British exit from the European Union. The vote isn’t until June, and it’s one of the big political stories in Britain. So… the Guardian suggested that there was a conspiratorial connection between the political Brexit story and the gossip stories about “Work-Shy Will” and the “Duchess of Do-Little.” According to the Guardian’s prank, the royals believe there’s a connection. I should note that they’re actually basing this in reality: one of turning points for William was his vague speech back in February which many interpreted as “William speaks out against Brexit.” There were also stories last month in which real “sources” claimed the Queen is pro-Brexit. So, the Guardian slyly claims that the royal family thinks there’s a conspiracy afoot, and they plan on saying something about it. The royal family is seriously considering making a dramatic intervention in the referendum debate with an announcement that it supports Britain remaining inside the European Union. That the royals are prepared to risk provoking a potential constitutional crisis shows just how deep their anger is at parts of the British press and senior politicians. According to a senior source close to official figures, there was particular resentment at the Sun’s newspaper’s depiction of the Queen as a Brexit supporter. But the anger runs through the generations at Buckingham Palace: there was fury at the claims about “workshy” Prince William, a campaign mounted by two papers with an anti-EU stance, the Daily Mail and the Sun. And there was a feeling last week that rock bottom had been hit with a story in the Mail that Kate was now posher than the other royals. Another well-connected source explained that the royals now see a tightening conspiracy between the pro-exit papers, notably the Sun, Telegraph and Mail, and certain politicians. “The leader of Vote Leave is Michael Gove – that awful little leaker who put it about that the Queen wanted out. They can’t stand him. And as for Boris, the other main outer – he’s a cycling maniac from Islington. All he has done for the royal family is make it difficult to get around London in a decent-sized Daimler. And the third of the trio – Farage – what another awful little man.” Part of the reason for stepping into the debate in such an unprecedented way is huge disappointment in the prime minister, David Cameron. “The feeling is that we can’t leave it to him. Look what happened at the last referendum we had, on Scotland. We nearly lost Balmoral and the shoots. Nicola Sturgeon could be sat in that castle now – we know she had her eye on it – it was a damn close-run thing.” Royal circles found particularly offensive Cameron’s portrayal of the Queen as having “purred down the line” when he telephoned her to tell her Scotland had voted against independence. “The cheek of the man. There was real fury about that comment. And the irony of it – coming from a fat cat,” said a source. [From The Guardian] The whole piece is rich with irony, and they claim that the Palace is going to send Prince Philip out on his 95th birthday in June, possibly to tell Ant & Dec that Britain should stay in the EU. So… yeah, I’m dumb. I honestly thought this was real for a solid hour this morning. While my glee soured to disappointment with the realization that it was a prank, I still have to tip my hat to the Guardian. This is a brilliantly written piece of satire. Well done! Tyler Baltierra & Daughter Visit Catelynn Lowell in Rehab

Last week, Teen Mom star Catelynn Lowell checked into rehab in order to receive treatment for a number of emotional issues. In the days prior to her departure, there were rumors that Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra were headed for divorce, as both newlyweds posted cryptic and troubling social media messages hinting at trouble in the home. Fortunately, Tyler put those fears to rest over the weekend when he tweeted about bringing daughter Nova to visit Catelynn for the Easter holiday. “On a flight to go see Cate & Nova first choked on a cracker, then puked up the cracker all over me & then pooped, all within a half hour!” he tweeted on Saturday. Catelynn has spoken openly about her past struggles with postpartum depression, and though she didn’t go into detail about her latest bout, she has confirmed that she’ll be in treatment for the next several weeks. In the meantime, Tyler seems to be holding things down at home. According to his social media pages, he spent the weekend completing a renovation project and catching Batman v Superman with friends. The location of Catelynn’s treatment facility is unknown, but it seems Tyler and Nova will spend the next few days at a nearby hotel. Watch Teen Mom online at TV Fanatic to relive all of Tyler and Catelynn’s ups and downs.

Gwen Stefani: divorce was ‘the worst thing that can happen to me besides death’

Gwen Stefani has a long, extensive interview with LGBT publication Pride Source promoting her new album. She’s asked a lot of questions about her relationship with the gay community, and about being a woman in the male-dominated music industry. To be fair to Stefani, when she talks about her “gay friends” or about one of her sons potentially coming out, she’s asked specifically about that by the journalist, in those words. She’s not bringing it up out without context. The quotes from Stefani which are getting the most press were when she said that she would be “blessed” if one of her sons came out. Again, she was asked what she would do in this instance. Writer Chris Azzopardi knows how to get a good quote. Stefani was extremely chatty too; she said several times that she’s horrible at keeping secrets. She didn’t exactly dish the dirt on her relationship ending, she only described how hurt she was. She did suggest that she was having problems in her relationship around 2013 and frames it around her own personal spiritual journey, which she credits with giving her the tools to survive her divorce. On embarrassing her kids and her divorce I can’t talk about them because they’re gonna be 15 and like, “Mom, why did you say that? You’re embarrassing me!” I have to think a little bit about that now. But I just think… I don’t know how else to be. Everybody knows what happened to me. I got a divorce. It’s the worst thing that can happen to me besides death. Her divorce was devastating My whole life all I wanted to do was be a mother and a wife… In February (2015), my family fell apart. It was devastating. I didn’t know what to do. It was a real big secret, but as I just explained, I’m not good with that. I tried everything to fix it. By June (2015), I went into the studio and started writing. I was praying. I had already started on a spiritual journey when I got pregnant with Apollo (in 2013) that was sort of like, “Wow, really? I’m gonna be blessed with a baby… now?” That was a miracle. It just started me on this spiritual journey and thank God it started then because I was prepared when I had the tragedy. I had that nest of spirituality in me. On criticism of letting her boys paint their nails and dye their hair Of course everyone’s gonna have their perspective and their opinion, and I know what’s real and what’s honest and true, and that’s really all that matters to me and all that’s important. So, it doesn’t really bother me. As long as my boys are protected and happy and I’m spending quality time with them, whether it’s doing sports or doing nails, it really doesn’t matter. Q: “What would you say to one of your boys if they came out to you one day?” I would be blessed with a gay son. You know that I would feel blessed about that. I just want my boys to be happy and healthy, and I just ask God to guide me every day to be a good mother because it is not an easy job. I’ve been lucky enough to have such a blessed life. I’ve been able to travel the world and meet so many different kinds of people. And it doesn’t really matter if you’re gay, straight, whatever. There are good and bad people, and I would be happy. I just want my kids to be happy, and whatever journey God gives them is their journey. On how it’s better now for gay people growing up, she calls “The Danish Girl” “The Dutch Girl” I do know that it’s gotta be difficult to be the alternative, to not be the mainstream, or to be different, if you want to call it that. I feel like it’s less and less (like that) these days, and it’s hard for me to understand because it doesn’t seem different or weird or anything anymore because it just seems so normal to me. I just saw that movie… what was it… “The Dutch Girl”? “The Danish Girl”…? Yeah, “The Danish Girl.” I think what was so incredible about that movie was just – that was so long ago. I mean, can you imagine back then? Whoa. Now it feels like nothing anymore. [From Pride Source] Her heart’s in the right place, even if she comes across as rather ditzy at times. The entire interview is long and well worth reading if you’re interested in her at all. Stefani references God and feeling “blessed” multiple times, as she’s done in past interviews. She peppers so many religious references into the conversation that she sounds like she’s from the south. It makes me wonder if that’s Blake Shelton’s influence, because Stefani was raised Catholic in California. I’m a former Catholic too and in my experience we don’t bring up God that much in everyday conversation. As for the end of her relationship with Gavin Rossdale, she describes it as a tragedy and like a death, which she’s said before. Stefani claims that she has a confessional nature but she seems to be hinting around the details behind her divorce, like she’s trying to keep some things from the public but is just dying to tell us. She may be doing that with the lyrics to her songs. “Red Flag” is about a one-sided relationship imploding “Big mistake, red flags fly… you know how to blow up” while “Naughty” definitely seems to be about Rossdale. Read these lyrics, “You did it, and then you hid it…The naughty, naughty things you do. I think there’s something that you might perhaps forgot to say. Locked in the closet but it never goes away.” That closet line sounds telling right? This is What The Truth Feels Like is currently number one on Billboard’s Hot 200 charts. It’s Stefani’s first number one album. photos credit: WENN.com and FameFlynet

Kim Kardashian Celebrates Easter with Black Jesus Kimoji

Kim Kardashian is here to help you celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The former sex tape star shared a new set of her special emojis on her official website this week, writing as an affiliated message to the photo above: “It’s almost Easter! I want to give you guys a little surprise: new Easter Kimoji! “There are over a dozen new Kimoji, including colorful eggs, me in bunny ears and a fun KIMOGIF! Easter is a really big deal in my family and I get super into it. “These new Kimoji are seriously soooo cute, I can’t deal!!!” Most followers have taken note of the African-American Jesus Christ icon because it’s not something you see very often. But it is common knowledge that Kim likes her men black. So why would she not like her Sons of God the same way? When Kardashian launched her Kimojis last December, they actually crashed the Apple store. According to reports at the time, there was a point where 9,000 downloads of these icons were happening per millisecond. Which is utterly insane and depressing. Kim previously stirred up controversy with the feature when a series of Kimojis appeared to glorify the ratchet life. What do you think of her Easter-themed options? Will you be downloading any of them in celebration of the holiday? And, if so, allow us to ask the following question: WHY?!?!?!?!? View Slideshow: Kim Kardashian Emojis: Yes, These Exist

Leo DiCaprio throws shade at politicians who don’t believe in ‘modern science’

Here are some photos of Leonardo DiCaprio in Japan this week to promote the Japanese premiere of The Revenant. Japan usually gets films several months later than America and Europe, so this is no big deal. And Leo has a lot of Japanese fans, and many of them literally dressed up as bears to see him in Tokyo. During the press conference for the film, Leo was asked about one of his signature issues: the environment, or more specifically, the reality and politics of climate change. His answer was pretty pointed, even though he didn’t specifically name names. Fresh from his Oscar-winning role in “The Revenant,” Leonardo DiCaprio suggested Wednesday that his upcoming documentary on climate change could help raise awareness about a phenomenon that some US presidential candidates reject. DiCaprio said one of the collaborators for the film to be released before the November election was Fisher Stevens, a producer of the 2010 Oscar-winning documentary “The Cove” about dolphin-killing in the small Japanese town of Taiji. “We’ve been travelling around the world documenting climate change,” DiCaprio told a press conference in Tokyo, adding they visited China, India and the North Pole and South Pole. Though he did not offer any names, he said some candidates seeking the highest US office are falling short in their environmental attitudes. “We should not have a candidate who doesn’t believe in modern science to be leading our country,” he said. “Climate change is one of the most concerning issues facing all humanity and the United States needs to do its part.” Republican front-runner Donald Trump said last year he did not believe in climate change, while his key rival Ted Cruz has dismissed it as “pseudo-scientific theory”. [From AFP] While it seems like his statement is actually pretty obvious, and that the overwhelmingly majority of people would agree, it actually IS being treated as a controversy in the conservative media. Because they would disagree with the fundamental idea that the president of the United States should believe/know that climate change is real, that all of this is really happening. It is SCIENCE, despite what a handful of oil-and-gas “scientists” want to tell the GOP. That’s what I never understood about the GOP side of this argument – if they want to say that we shouldn’t do anything about climate change, then argue that point. Don’t make it into an argument about whether climate change is real, because yes, then you do sound anti-science. And dumb. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Melissa McCarthy on her weight loss: ‘No trick, just super boring life’

Melissa McCarthy is promoting her new movie The Boss, which opens April 8. As I have mentioned, I am a big fan of Melissa since falling in love with her on Gilmore Girls. Of her movies, however, Spy is just about the only one I enjoyed. I am cautiously optimistic about The Boss though. If the trailers are to be believed, her character, Michelle Darnell, is a competent businessperson and the joke has nothing to do with weight. Her character Sookie’s weight on Gilmore Girls was never a joke; it wasn’t until she went mainstream Hollywood that her weight was brought front and center. Now that Melissa has lost 50 pounds (brava to her) her weight is an even bigger focus and everyone wants to know her secret. According to Melissa, the secret isn’t that sexy: Actress Melissa McCarthy channels a foul-mouthed, over-the-top Martha Stewart caricature in her new movie “The Boss,” but it is her personal transformation that has everyone talking. The 45-year-old actress looked incredible at a press junket for the film. She lost a reported 50 pounds, and revealed there is no big secret to her weight loss. She told “Extra’s” Charissa Thompson it is actually her lifestyle that contributed to the change. “No trick, nothing to tell, just super boring life. You bring it real down, you don’t do anything fun and you go to bed at 7:30 — that’s the trick.” She went on to say her husband, Ben Falcone, will ask, “Is it five and are you in jammies?” to which she responds, “I’m gonna call them loungewear.” [From Extra TV] Melissa is accepting compliments graciously but shies away from any real weight-loss discussion. I can appreciate her position as she has often emphasized that weight doesn’t really matter to her. She told Rolling Stone, in 2014, “I could eat healthier, I could drink less. I should be learning another language and working out more, but I’m just always saying, ‘Ah, I could get hit by a bus tomorrow.” I get the sense that she does not want to be another celebrity who loses weight and all of a sudden the only thing that matters is weight loss. Melissa is wearing her Seven7 clothing line during this press junket. I really liked a few pieces from her Holiday Line, but I think she does bottoms better than tops. The line is doing well, however, and Melissa continues to put emphasis on it being an all-inclusive line, joining the voices wishing to dismiss “plus-size” as a descriptor. LeAnn Rimes wore tiny shorts to her step-son’s game: inappropriate or fine?

We can go months without talking about LeAnn Rimes, and for that, I’m grateful. But spring is here and summer is on the way, which means LeAnn has emailed her step-sons’ Little League and soccer schedules to the paparazzi so they can get plenty of photos of her in short-shorts, posing as the Best Step-Mom Ever. These are photos from this weekend, where LeAnn and Eddie were attending one of the kids’ soccer games. Of course LeAnn wore shorty-shorts and a low-cut sweater. Everything is all about LeAnn, always! We haven’t really talked about LeAnn in more than a month, and even then, it wasn’t really because LeAnn was doing something new. In February, Dean Sheremet was promoting his cookbook, and he ended up talking about LeAnn a bit in interviews and the book. LeAnn’s lawyers sent Dean a threatening letter about it, but I don’t know if anything came out of it. I mean, Dean still promoted his book and we haven’t heard anything about LeAnn actually suing him, so maybe she dropped the issue. Which is so unlike her. What else? She’s still posting a lot of stuff on social media, but she’s been somewhat quiet and un-newsworthy lately. Usually if we get a few months of quiet, that means something big is coming down the pipeline. We’ll see! Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.
