Olivia Wilde: ‘Girls don’t get dressed up for guys; we get dressed up for girls’

Olivia Wilde recently shared some of her beauty secrets with People magazine and I can only hope if I follow them I will look as radiant as she does. Olivia used the interview to do a little shilling for Revlon, for which she is a spokesperson, but she does offer some pretty helpful tips. She says that Jason “doesn’t love it” when she wears red lipstick to channel her inner Sophia Loren, but I’m sure he can look past that. It’s like a tiny scratch on a Bentley. Here are some highlights from the interview: On men and makeup: “All men are terrified of lipstick. But girls don’t get dressed up for guys; we get dressed up for girls. So I wear whatever I think looks best.” On her beauty inspiration: “I like to be bold on the red carpet, and the benefit of working with so many brilliant makeup artists is that I get to ask a lot of questions and say, ‘okay so when I go out next week to that birthday party I am going to try my own version of this with my own tools.’” On her day-to-day look: “I don’t leave the house without a little foundation, concealer and mascara [on]. I think that for a lot of women it’s not about disguising yourself, it’s just about giving yourself a little bump in confidence.” On the power of makeup: “The older I get, the more I get to know what works best for me. Makeup is not about changing who you are, it’s about understanding your face and highlighting your best features.” [From People] I love Olivia, but I have to disagree on a few things. I did an informal poll of my Facebook friends and random Tinder connections and not one man told me he was “terrified” of lipstick. Maybe Jason had some sort of traumatic experience with lipstick as a child. Also, the only woman I get dressed up for is myself. I have also been known to get dolled up to woo the opposite sex, so I think she may be barking up the wrong tree. She is right about using makeup to highlight your best features. She’s obviously a pro at that. Sadly, it was announced on Wednesday that Olivia’s HBO series, Vinyl, was cancelled after only one season. The show, which followed the ups and (mostly) downs of a rock ’n’ roll record label in the 1970s was produced by Martin Scorcese and Mick Jagger, and I thought it was pretty good. And, of course, there’s all kinds of unresolved storylines, damn it. I hope Mick’s son, James, who played a punk singer, shows up somewhere soon. He’s a hottie. I hope Olivia’s merkin stylist can get another gig somewhere as well. Olivia took the news in stride, using Twitter to thank fans for their support. Here are some photos of Chelsea Clinton leaving a New York hospital following the birth of her second child, baby boy Aidan Clinton Mezvinsky. Chelsea gave birth on Saturday, and I guess she stayed at the hospital two nights and left the hospital on Monday. Chelsea, her husband Marc and her parents, Bill and Hillary Clinton, all left together. I guess Marc’s parents don’t get to be included in the photo-op! As many have already noted, there’s sort of a royal flavor to this photo-op, like Chelsea is pulling a Duchess Kate. In Chelsea’s defense, I think it’s more like the photographers were already waiting for her to leave the hospital and she just made the most of it, probably with Hillary’s help. It’s a nice photo-op, is what I’m saying. Incidentally, people are loving Chelsea’s baby-name choices because they make her seem like a die-hard Sex and the City fan. Charlotte was one of the main characters and Aidan was Carrie’s fiancé. If Chelsea has another baby, the name will probably be Sam! Because you can’t name a baby “Mr. Big.” Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton’s stay in New York has been incredibly productive, and by that I mean she raised a ton of money last night at a star-studded fundraiser thrown by Harvey Weinstein. Hillary is raising money hand over fist, and she currently has more than $42 million in her campaign war chest, and that’s just for her campaign. If you include her superpac, she has more than $100 million on-hand. Donald Trump, meanwhile, is the human embodiment of a sad clown noise. He keeps lending his campaign money, his campaign leadership is in shambles, and he only had $1.3 million on hand at the end of May. Which has led to #TrumpSoPoor trending on Twitter. It’s glorious. Duchess Kate repeats a red Catherine Walker ensemble: fab or drab?

RED HEELS!!!!!! Duchess Kate is wearing red heels! No wedges of doom. No nude pumps. No beige stilettos. She’s wearing honest-to-God red heels! And they’re good, aren’t they? I also have to say, I’ve always had a great deal of affection for Kate in red. She wears a lot of blue, probably because she A) thinks blue is her signature color and B) wants everything to match Big Blue, her sapphire engagement ring. But red looks amazing on her and she wears it too infrequently. These photos are from yesterday’s Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle, William and Kate’s fourth public outing in as many days. Kate’s Catherine Walker dress and coat were repeats, but I actually didn’t remember them. She wore this ensemble for the first time in 2011, during her first royal tour to Canada. She actually styled it differently this time too – she wore her hair back and she wore a rather fancy hat. She accessorized with the same diamond drop earrings that she wore for her wedding (purchased as a gift by her parents), a silver pendant (which she has been wearing a lot lately) and an Art Deco-ish bracelet, which we’ve seen before. I’m totally fine with the whole look. And I’ll say again: she should seriously consider adding more red pieces to her wardrobe. And just say no to nude heels! Meanwhile, Vanity Fair reports that William and Kate will be stopping by the Royal Ascot this week “much to the Queen’s delight.” After a spectacular turn out for the Queen’s 90th birthday over the weekend, the royals will be out in full force again this week to celebrate Royal Ascot. Royal Watch has learned that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will make their debut at the annual race meet/high-society outing in Berkshire, much to the Queen’s delight. In the past, William and Kate have always turned down offers to join the Queen and her guests in the Royal Enclosure, but this year they are turning out as a birthday surprise for the Queen, who has attended every Royal Meeting at the Ascot during her reign. “They know how much Ascot means to the Queen and they will be there for one day this week,” says a source about the event, which commences Tuesday. “They will enjoy an afternoon in the royal box with Her Majesty.” [From Vanity Fair] What’s interesting to me is that the Queen has requested their presence apparently multiple times over the past five years and they were always too “busy,” I suppose? I always imagined that when the Queen asks you to go somewhere, it’s not a request, it’s an order. However will William and Kate recuperate from this harried work schedule? Duchess Kate in a Catherine Walker coatdress at St. Paul’s: cute or cloying?

Here are some photos of the Duchess of Cambridge and other royals today at St. Paul’s Cathedral. They attended a service of thanksgiving for Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday, which is funny because today is actually the Duke of Edinburgh’s 95th birthday. But today is the start of a three-day celebration for the Queen, her birthday and her historic reign. In addition to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, this church service was also attended by the York princesses, Prince Harry, the Prince of Wales, the Countess of Wessex, the Duke of York, the Princess Royal, the Duchess of Cornwall, Zara Phillips, Tony Blair, David Cameron and John Major. You can see the Daily Mail’s photos here. While the Queen wore a bright yellow, Kate decided on a more muted palate. She chose this light blue Catherine Walker coatdress, because Kate is obsessed with coatdresses. The white, lacy lattice-work down the front is not my cup of tea, but I think the look is appropriate for a morning church service. The thing that bugs me most of all is that I believe with all my heart that Kate had the hem raised so she could show off more leg, and whomever did it made a hash of it – look at how uneven that looks! Kate’s hat is by Jane Taylor, and Kate paired the ensemble with a pair of much-beloved nude heels. I have to say… the York princesses looked fantastic this morning. The Duke of York, not so much. We haven’t covered Lindsay Lohan in a few months, and she’s been desperate for attention this week, so let’s give it to her. Lindsay spent much of the week in London, partying and pap-strolling and leaking stories about herself. She even spent time with Kourtney Kardashian (that must have been a meeting of the minds). But yesterday Lindsay was in Spain. Someone (an idiot) hired Lindsay to be the (crack)face of the Uno de 50 jewelry line. So Lindsay got a flight to Madrid and she got to do a photocall, posing in some of the jewelry. And hey, it worked! I’m covering these photos, so it worked. Just like I assume I’ll re-use these photos when the jeweler claims that some of his pieces were crack-heisted. I mostly wanted to talk about these photos because I’m interested in seeing your reaction to how Lohan looks these days. In some shots, I think she looks okay, almost presentable and somewhat sober. In other photos, I think she looks glassy-eyed and terrible. Also: is this dress incredibly unflattering or did she get another boob job? Meanwhile, did you know that Lindsay is still engaged? It’s true. She’s engaged to a 22-year-old Russian “businessman” who seems just as shady as Lindsay. But they’re enjoying themselves and he’s even going to throw a big party for Lindsay’s 30th birthday this summer. Lindsay Lohan’s fiancé, Egor Tarabasov, is throwing her a 30th birthday party in Greece. The 22-year-old Russian trust-fund kid and real estate agent told Lohan’s pals to save the date for a giant July 2 bash in Mykonos. The exact location hasn’t been revealed as yet, but the party’s planners might want to steer clear of the restaurant Sea Satin Market — where Lohan reportedly racked up a $1,300 bill in 2015 before leaving without paying. Staff spent three days searching for her before a pal paid up. [From Page Six] Sure. I keep waiting for Egor’s family to shut this down, but maybe they figure that Egor will eventually tire of Lindsay’s drama and antics. But what worries me is that Lindsay has “caught” someone wealthy and she’ll get pregnant soon. It's both tragic and true: Far too many celebrities have lost their lives to a drug overdose. We send our best wishes to the loved ones of these late stars and we hope they are resting in peace… 1. Prince About six weeks after he passed away at home in Minnesota, it was confirmed that Prince died of an opiate overdose. Sad stuff. 2. Whitney Houston Whitney Houston passed away from a cocaine overdose and drowning on February 11, 2012. The legendary singer was 49 years old. 3. Philip Seymour Hoffman Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead by a friend on Super Bowl Sunday in 2014. The Oscar-winning star was 46 at the time and a medical examiner declared that Hoffman died from a mixture of heroin, cocaine and amphetamines. 4. Peaches Geldof Peaches Geldof, 25, died in April 7 at her home in Wrotham, England. A few months later, a British coroner officially ruled that Geldof had died of a heroin overdose. 5. Lisa Robin Kelly Lisa Robin Kelly died in her sleep from multiple drug intoxification on August 14, 2013. She was 43 years old at the time. 6. Cory Monteith Rest in peace, Cory Monteith. The Glee star died from a mixture of heroin and champagne on July 13, 2013. The incident followed a night out with friends in Vancouver. He was 31. View Slideshow
