John Goodman’s Kristen Wiig story: was she rude to him or was he rude to her?

John Goodman sat down with Howard Stern this week to promote his new movie, 10 Cloverfield Lane. We rarely talk about Goodman, not because we dislike him or anything, but because he usually isn’t much of a newsmaker. He works all the time, people love him, he seems like a really normal person. There’s no real scandal, you know? Even Rosanne Barr loves him, and she hates almost everyone. While chatting with Stern, Goodman talked about New Orleans, drinking, SNL, weight loss (he’s lost a lot of weight in the past year, after he gained weight back from his 2010 weight loss) and more. The biggest headline is probably the Kristen Wiig story though, and I still don’t know how to feel. Some highlights: He was so excited to meet Kristen Wiig, he interrupted her conversation: “She was talking to somebody else, and I was just – I think she’s so great, and the social barriers broke down and I interrupted the conversation. And I would just hate for somebody to do that to me. And she goes, ‘yeah, I’ll talk to you in a minute.’ [makes sound of bomb dropping] It was like the Atom. I shrunk down to Atom size. …I really like her, and it was embarrassing, so I’ll never speak to her again.” He’s sober now, but he used to drink at work: “I was drunk a couple of times during ‘[The Big] Lebowski,’ but that was way too many for me. That was something I swore to myself I would never do – drink at work. And then that – on Roseanne I started doing that.” Whether he avoided the Vietnam draft: “I got a lottery number of 30,” Goodman revealed, but said they didn’t ask him to serve because when he went into for his physical they marked him down as being too heavy for his height after recording his height incorrectly. “I would have been the big baby of the Army,” he admitted though. He loves Brie Larson, his ‘Kong: Skull Island’ costar: “She was so charismatic. She was like the only girl on set and every weekend she would organize stuff to do. We would look at kangaroos. She would organize a trip to an amusement park after it closed … Just stuff for people to do, because she’s nervous about people getting angry or getting on each other’s nerves.” On politics: “I keep it to myself and it will, you know, give me the cancer… I hate political ads. I hate seeing people … getting swept up into a mob mentality.” On Obama: “I just feel bad for Obama. As soon as he got into office they started kicking the s–t out of him. For no reason. … He could have a cancer cure and it’s like, ‘No, it’s not good enough.’” [From Howard Stern] The Kristen Wiig thing… I mean, I get it, she was in the middle of a conversation and God knows I hate it when people interrupt me or talk over me or anything like that. But still… it was John Goodman! The man is a national treasure! When John Goodman comes over and wants to fan-boy all over you, you hit pause on your conversation and talk to him, you know? Helen Mirren: ‘There is an extraordinary, extreme, right-wing voice in America’

Was I too nice to Helen Mirren yesterday? Probably. I like her so much, I do tend to ignore it when she makes problematic statements. My defense of her is usually along the lines of “well, now she knows, maybe she’s learned how to speak about this issue now.” Anyway, Britain’s Channel 4 released the video of their interview with Mirren, and she talks about a lot more than #OscarsSoWhite and the Academy. She was also asked about American politics. Just for the record, Helen has been married to an American for nearly 20 years, and I’m almost positive that she lives most of the time in America (I believe she and Taylor Hackford own homes in New Orleans and LA). Mirren is also an American citizen, likely through her marriage. So… I feel like it’s totally fine for Mirren to talk about American politics, considering she likely votes in American elections. And as it turns out, Mirren kind of hates Ted Cruz and to a lesser degree, Donald Trump. Whether the rise of Donald Trump signals a return of 1950s-style conservatism: “Yes, Donald Trump… and Ted Cruz. I suspect more Ted Cruz in a way than Donald Trump. I think the people who support Ted Cruz think Donald Trump is a little bit of a liberal. I think Donald Trump has a populist voice, massively populist, and that slightly demagogue, populist voice. But I think Ted Cruz is more the really old-school extreme right conservative.” The extreme right wing: “There is an extraordinary, extreme, right-wing voice in America – extreme. If that does get into power fully – in the Congress, in the Senate, in the White House and has all the power that it wants, I can’t imagine how the world would look. I think it’s a very, very frightening idea, myself. This whole idea of ‘making America great’ it seems to me it would actually be sort of the end of America as a great country.” [Via Channel 4, People Magazine] Helen has previously referred to Trump as “stupid,” but in this interview, it sounds like she’s more worried about Ted Cruz. I’m kind of feeling it too – the interviewer clearly wants to talk more about Donald Trump and hopefully takeaway a juicy, bitchy quote, but Mirren is more concerned about Cruz’s neo-McCarthyism. She’s right to be concerned. And personally, I’m still hoping that Donald Trump’s final gift to the American people is a spectacular takedown of Cruz. Please let it happen! Here’s Mirren’s interview. Kristen Stewart: Conversations about gender pay disparity are ‘boring’

Embed from Getty Images While I am legitimately disappointed that so many non-white artists were snubbed with #OscarSoWhite, I’m also a little bit disappointed that Kristen Stewart was snubbed too. Kristen walked away from this year’s awards season with some surprise critics’ awards for her work in Clouds of Sils Maria, and there were some hopes that she would make a late surge and end up with an Oscar nomination. Alas, it was not to be. But a lot of people like the current version of K-Stew. She’s less lip-bitey and she’s leaning in to her indie roots. Kristen is currently at Sundance to promote the drama Certain Women, and she chatted with E! News about what’s next for her career: Whether she’s offered roles in franchises all the time: “They’re not too common. Trust me, I would love to find a big doozy of a movie that’s interesting and worthwhile.” Would she play a superhero? “Maybe. Go print that—I can’t wait to play a superhero.” She really wants to direct: “Hopefully as soon as humanly possible. I really want to. I have to find the right thing. I started working when I was nine. I love this industry. I love what movies can do so I’ll find my story.” She’s been to Sundance many times & she loves indie films: “I’m not totally biased. I really like making the small ones and I like making the big ones. It’s just when you get the right people together who really care about something, who are not solely interested in getting just love and attention and money and stuff and it’s really for the love of the meditation on a subject and getting into something and baring your soul, [Sundance] is the perfect place to do it.” [From E! News] Since I was snowed in for the better part of three days (damn you, snowpocalypse!), I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron like three times on one of the premium cable channels. I was struck again by Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlett Witch role, which, to Olsen’s credit, she played well, the perfect mix of camp and legit drama. I wonder if that’s the kind of thing Kristen wishes she was up for – a supporting part in a Marvel movie, something like that. Or does she wish she could be Wonder Woman, steering her own franchise? I think it’s interesting that Kristen has been saying variations of “I’d love to do another big movie/franchise again” for the past year too – I mean, I know she’s not broke so it’s not like she needs the money. I think she’s just spent some time reevaluating what Twilight gave her, and she’d like another crack at a franchise, this time as an adult. Oh, and I saw this too late – Kristen spoke to Variety and she was asked about gender pay disparity. You can watch the video here, which I would recommend. She seems to acknowledge her privilege at the beginning, but she also basically tells women in the industry to suck it up. At one point, she says: “Instead of sitting around and complaining about that, do something. Go write something, go do something. And that’s easy to say. Like, f–k, it’s hard to get movies made. It’s a huge luxury. Who gets to just make movies? But that subject is just so prevalently everywhere right now, and it’s boring.” Oh, the discussion about inequality is boring, K-Stew? Kardashian Enemy Blac Chyna is probably hooking up with Rob Kardashian

I couldn’t figure it out at first, because it just seemed like she was trending after she posted an Instagram of her cleavage and a man’s arm draped across her chest (the image above). She captioned the IG “the beginning.” I still didn’t get it. But then I saw TMZ’s story about it and… well… WOW. TMZ did some investigating and it seems like the arm belongs to none other than Rob Kardashian. For some background… Blac Chyna used to be tight with all of the Kardashians, mostly Khloe and Kim. They were girlfriends and they hung out together a lot. But then Blac Chyna’s boyfriend/fiancé/baby daddy Tyga dumped her for then-underage Kylie Jenner. When Blac Chyna’s friend (and Kardashian enemy) Amber Rose called out Tyga and Kylie on social media, Khloe stormed in and slammed Amber Rose AND Blac Chyna. So, for a few years now, Blac Chyna and the Kardashians have not been friendly at all. Blac Chyna and Tyga are still beefing regularly too, and Blac Chyna is basically Brandi Glanville (to Kylie Jenner’s LeAnn Rimes), if that gives you some kind of context. So, is this a revenge hookup? Is Blac Chyna sticking it to the Kardashian women by starting something with Poor Rob? I don’t even know. I mean, there’s definitely something shady going on, but I’m not even going to lay this on Blac Chyna’s doorstep. WTF is Rob even thinking? And of course Khloe had some stuff to say. Kylie Jenner is ‘livid, super betrayed’ about Blac Chyna & Rob Kardashian

One of my favorite things to come out of Kylie Jenner’s “transformation” over the past few years is that people started calling her White Chyna. That, to me, is hilarious. Tyga famously dumped his long-time girlfriend/fiancee/baby-mama Blac Chyna for Kylie when she was underage. That was around the time that Kylie began her transformation too, and by the way… she does seem to be “stealing” Blac Chyna’s look. I’m telling you, this whole thing is very Brandi Glanville/LeAnn Rimes. Especially when the jumpoff (Kylie) is single-white-female-ing the original (Blac Chyna). Thus, we get White Chyna. Anyway, as we discussed earlier, Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna are sort of happening now. Blac Chyna posted a photo of Rob’s arm draped around her and the Twitterverse exploded. Blac Chyna is no longer tight with the Kardashians, but they were all friendly at one point, so Blac Chyna really knows what she’s doing here. And I still think it’s really funny/shady. So how does Kylie feel about this situation, with her half-brother hooking up with the ex-partner of her current boyfriend? Kylie Jenner and half-brother Rob Kardashian are on less than good terms following news he’s been romantically linked to Blac Chyna. “Kylie is livid,” a source tells PEOPLE. “She feels super betrayed and can’t understand why someone in her own family would stab her in the back like that.” Blac Chyna, whose birth name is Angela Renée White, is Tyga’s ex-fiancée, and together they have a son, King Cairo, 3. Jenner has been dating the 26-year-old rapper since late 2014, but the pair didn’t take their relationship public until last August when they went on a PDA-filled trip to celebrate her 18th birthday. And Blac Chyna’s bad blood with Jenner involves her famous sisters. The mother of one was once close friends with Kim Kardashian West, though the friendship appears no longer. In addition, Khloé Kardashian and Blac Chyna’s BFF Amber Rose have had many public feuds on Twitter regarding Jenner’s relationship with Tyga. Furthermore, Tyga and Blac Chyna aren’t the friendliest of exes – he lashed out at her on Instagram in September for allegedly spreading rumors that he couldn’t afford the Ferrari he bought Jenner for her 18th birthday in August. [From People] Ah, to be 18 years old and dumb as a rock. Of course Kylie is “livid” – that’s exactly how Blac Chyna wants her to feel. Blac Chyna manipulated this situation brilliantly if her aim was simply to get at Kylie (which it probably was). As for Rob… I don’t really understand how he doesn’t see that he’s being manipulated too. But maybe he’s okay with it because he has such a love-hate/passive-aggressive relationship with some members of his family. And you know he still lives with Khloe, right? I noticed it first at the premiere of The Big Short in November, but a lot of people commented on his “freshened” look at the Golden Globes. I think it’s probably a combination of factors, some of which are rather harmless. Like, Brad had facial hair on and off for years, but these days he’s rocking a clean-shaven look, so he automatically looks different. He’s also got a haircut (that looks like a ‘90s wiglet), which changes his appearance. But there is something else going on. Aggressive facial peels? Botox? A facelift? Life & Style says no – their sources claim Brad’s new look is the result of a new diet, skin care treatments and IV vitamin drips. Brad Pitt is turning back the clock! An insider close to Brad reveals in the new issue of Life & Style Weekly that for the past several months, Brad has been on an intense antiaging regimen that includes a new diet, expensive skin care treatments and even IV vitamin drips! “He’s been telling friends about his new antiaging plan,” an insider tells Life & Style. “He’s been doing it with the help of a nutritionist and a personal chef.” The insider reveals the details of his new diet to Life & Style, on newsstands now. It’s heavy on salmon, walnuts and chia seeds, which are high in omega-3 fatty acids to combat wrinkles, plus lean meats and eggs, which provide amino acids to help repair damaged skin cells, according to the insider. Other staples in Brad’s strict regimen are brown rice and beets, since they are high in phytoceramides, which many people take as supplements to keep skin hydrated and plump. “What you put in your mouth shows on your skin,” says Beverly Hills dermatologist Dr. Ava Shamban, who does not treat the father of five. “His diet will help Brad’s skin repair itself.” The insider tells Life & Style that he’s also been supplementing the diet with “collagen smoothies and antiaging IV vitamin drips,” as well as going to get regular facials. “Brad’s working hard to keep his youthful looks,” the insider says. “The transformation has been nothing short of amazing.” [From Life & Style] Here’s the thing: I believe Brad Pitt is vain, but do I believe he’s THIS vain? I don’t. I think he would go in for some facial peels and some Botox. I don’t believe he would completely change his diet and get IV drips full of anti-aging vitamins.
