Leo DiCaprio celebrated his Oscar win by wolf-howling with his Wolf Pack

I made a mistake yesterday when I was talking about Leonardo DiCaprio. I made a reference to the “P-ssy Posse,” Leo’s long-standing group of bros. Only they aren’t calling themselves that anymore. So sad! According to multiple reports about Leo’s post-Oscar-win partying, Leo and his bros call themselves The Wolf Pack now. As in… Wolf of Wall Street? Or the “wolf pack” from The Hangover series? Both options are pretty bad. Leonardo DiCaprio celebrated his Oscar win with an intimate party with his friends and family. DiCaprio attended the Governors Ball and the Vanity Fair bash before heading to restaurant Ago on Melrose Avenue to meet up with his nearest and dearest “where everyone could get in,” says a source. “Leo was with all his boys,” says a witness. “It was a lot of dudes.” We hear the jolly group included Lukas Haas, Tobey Maguire, Chuck Pacheco, his “Romeo + Juliet” co-star Vincent Laresca and club vet Richie Akiva. Leo’s mom Irmelin Indenbirken, dad George, stepmom Peggy DiCaprio, as well as “The Revenant” producer and New Regency owner Arnon Milchan and others on his team hung out to celebrate. “A couple of the guys kept standing on the couch and lifting the Oscar and passing it around,” says the spy. And rather like a scene from his movie “The Wolf of Wall Street” the crew was howling and chanting, “Wolf pack, wolf pack, wolf pack.” DiCaprio was having so much fun, he appeared to almost forget his Oscar. Video outside the bash shows the star seated in a car before someone rushes out with his statuette. [From Page Six] The NYDN says that Leo and his boys rolled up at Ago around midnight, and a witness said, “They (apparently) called themselves ‘The Wolf Pack.’ The crew was literally howling like wolves all night. They kept chanting, ‘Wolf Pack, Wolf Pack, Wolf Pack!’” My God, how cheesy. I’m all for men having dude-friends and some days, I actually think it’s sweet that Leo has such a core group of bros that he’s been close to for literally decades. But is it really a friendship of equals, or is Leo now (and has he always been) the King of the Wolves? The balance of power has always been off with this group, because it’s always all about Leo. Yeah, he takes care of his boys and in return, they all act like overgrown frat douches and wolf-howl all over LA clubs. Cheeseball. Jessica Biel in Roland Mouret at the Spirit Awards: fabulous or fug?

The Independent Spirit Awards are usually pretty loose and come-as-you-are, which means you usually don’t get Fashion Girls just showing up for the hell of it. Like, that’s what the Vanity Fair Oscar party is for. So I’m not entirely sure why Jessica Biel came out for the Spirits – she presented, but was she even IN a film in 2015? Let me check… yeah, she was, but no one saw her sad 2015 films. Still, Biel came out and she tried to “win” the fashion show in this Roland Mouret dress. If I’m being honest, I kind of like this. I love the colors, and I love the low-key vibe. I just want to rework it a little bit. The skirt should be longer and the top part needs to be a touch tighter, and she shouldn’t have tried to match her eye makeup to the dress. Also, check out her shoes! Rachel McAdams in Solace. God, I want her to look amazing at the Oscars. While this, to me, doesn’t make it up to “amazing” status, it’s pretty good. I like that she went for something slightly different, and this is the most I’ve ever like this shade of pumpkin. I kind of think the dress would have been even better if the whole thing was that shade of cream though. Bel Powley in Mary Katrantzou Pre-Fall 2016. I like this, I just wish it was fully lined. Right? I have a strange affection for laser-cut leather, but this needed a built-in nude slip. Idris Elba. G—damn this man can wear a suit. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Jennifer Lawrence: ‘The most damaging term we have’ is ‘post-feminist era’

Embed from Getty Images Here are some photos of Jennifer Lawrence at two pre-Oscar events in the past two days. As I keep saying, J-Law has been really good about not oversaturating the media with photos and interviews in the past few months. She was everywhere last year, and after she got her fourth Oscar nomination, she proceeded to not campaign for it at all. But she’s still J-Law, and she’s still the biggest star of her generation, and she’s still one of the biggest deals in Hollywood, so that’s why she came out for some events for Oscar weekend. First, the fashion. For last night’s Women In Film pre-Oscar cocktail party, Jennifer wore this absolutely awful Dior ensemble – the white jacket over what looks like an enlarged black fishnet dress. This should totally be considered a preview of things to come, because I’m sure she’s contractually obligated to wear Dior at the Oscars. And it might be bad. I think Dior is making gowns especially for J-Law, so maybe it won’t be THIS bad. I’m also including photos of Jennifer at that Dinner for Equality event two nights ago. She decided to forgo the Dior and went with Naeem Khan velvet pants and an embellished top. I would have enjoyed this more if the embellished top was a full-on dress. At the Dinner for Equality event, J-Law made some prepared remarks around pay equality (the event was co-hosted by Patricia Arquette, whose comments you can read here). J-Law said, in part: “It’s weird being a public figure talking about all of this stuff because you put a target on your nose. When I wrote that essay I got a lot of support but I also have a Republican family in Kentucky who told me my career was effectively over.” Lawrence said it’s vital to shed the notion that we live in a post-feminist era. “I don’t know who came up with that term, but it’s the most damaging term that we have, because it’s just not true.” [Via Variety] For what it’s worth, the Dinner for Equality event seemed like a very substantive discussion. At the Dinner for Equality event, they had feminist male allies from major studios talking about the importance on internal audits within studios to insure that women are being paid fairly and equally to their male counterparts. J-Law also said some words at the WIF event about pay equality: Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images Photos courtesy of Getty.

Alicia Vikander in Erdem at the WIF, Film is GREAT events: cute or cloying?

There were several big pre-Oscar events in LA last night, and I really hope the low-turnout at these events is indicative of the turnout for the Oscars. The two biggest events were The Film is GREAT reception (which is for British films and British actors nominated this year) and the annual Women In Film pre-Oscar cocktail party. Alicia Vikander wore the same Erdem dress to the WIF event and The Film is GREAT reception. I was set to side-eye Alicia’s presence at a British-film gathering, but then I remembered that The Danish Girl is a British-financed film with a British director and British costars. So… okay. It’s worth noting that her hokey “posh British” accent is really, really distracting in The Danish Girl. Here’s Idris Elba at the Film is GREAT reception, then he went out partying in Hollywood. Idris will be attending the Spirit Awards later today, and…? He’s not on the Oscar presenter list, but maybe he’ll come out for some of the Oscar parties. If he does come out for the parties, he should rethink the hat. Here’s Jennifer Jason Leigh at the Women in Film event. I feel a little bit sad about JJL – in another year, with a different campaign, this might have been her moment to win. I don’t like her ensemble here, it looks cheap. Maria Bello at the WIF event – this ensemble is absolutely tragic. Michelle Monaghan in Erdem at the WIF event… the “sheer dickie” part of this needs to GO. And finally, here’s Cate Blanchett at her own separate event for SK-II #ChangeDestiny Forum. She’s the face of SK-II (a skincare company), so I assume this was just a pre-Oscar event the company set up to promote their product AND Cate. The Antonio Berardi dress is very sexy – I love the little cap sleeve, and the design reminds me a lot of Roland Mouret. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet and WENN.

Alicia Silverstone in Christian Siriano at Women in Film: lovely or weird?

These are more photos from the Women in Film event (Kaiser covered the other attendees here), which was held last night in LA. They were calling for diversity in film and wage equality for women, as they do annually at this event. It was hosted by the Women in Film president, producer Cathy Schulman (Crash.) I’ll just be covering some of the more questionably dressed women. First off is Alicia Silverstone, who is 39 years old but somehow manages to look 20-something. This scoop neck spaghetti strap bronze metallic Christian Siriano dress is making her look much younger too. This is a very young-looking dress, I think it’s the simple empire cut, but her styling is perfection. Here’s Kate Walsh in a simple v-neck black dress that somehow manages to look like a power suit. That dress is cool, I would wear that, and I like the skinny belt but she paired it with fishnet stockings and high boots. When you look at her makeup though – what was she thinking? She’s got like bright purple eyeshadow on both her lids and under her eyes with thick heavy eyeliner, too much mascara and pink lips. If a makeup artist did this to me I would wipe it off and redo it myself. She looked much better the day before at the Cadillac pre-Oscar party in a contemporary wrap dress. Patricia Arquette was in a plain black and white combo with a white blouse under a half sleeve jacket with a tea length skirt. This look is just too boxy for my taste. She would look better with a fitted jacket and some tailoring. Lake Bell was in a very bizarre fishnet shirt with a bandeau bra underneath for modesty. She has on skintight pinstripe pants with too long split cuffs. This entire outfit looks like a reject from Project Runway. (Credit: my mom.) She does get points for pairing it with shoes that mimic the pattern in her top and carrying a practical purse. I always carry a big purse for all the crap I need to have with me at all times. Caitlyn Jenner: I’ve gotten more flack for being Republican than being trans

When I watched Caitlyn Jenner’s 20/20 special last April, I came away genuinely moved. Caitlyn was still going by Bruce then, although she identified as a woman and was still in the middle of transitioning physically. While Caitlyn’s interview was interesting and even moving, the news of her transition was mostly fait accompli at that point. In fact, I was more surprised – and I said so at the time – that Caitlyn still identified as a Republican. And she still does! In the first season of her show, there were many record-scratch moments where Caitlyn was trying to hang out with her girlfriends and she would start spouting some GOP talking points and her girls were like, “Cait, you’re ignorant as hell.” Caitlyn’s consistent perspective seems to be that if someone wants to transition, then they should just be white and rich like her. Even after all that Cait went through, she was still being judgy about gay marriage as late as last fall!!! So, yeah, her politics are still more shocking to me at this point that her transition. And Caitlyn said as much during a speaking engagement at the University of Pennsylvania. Caitlyn Jenner appeared in front of a sold out house of students Wednesday night and U. Penn students didn’t hold back in asking important questions. In response to one student who asked Caitlyn why she doesn’t belong to a more liberal political party, the 66-year-old E! star replied (via a local Philadelphia blog), “I have gotten more flack for being a conservative Republican than I have for being trans.” Vanity Fair writer Buzz Bissinger, who was the one interviewing Cait last night, supported Caitlyn’s Republicanism adding, “Just because you change gender doesn’t mean you change your core beliefs.” Bissinger, who wrote Cait’s famous Vanity Fair article last year, later brought up the media headlines suggesting Cait transitioned for publicity or profit. “I don’t need the money. So I don’t understand that claim,” Jenner answered. “No one transitions for financial gain. No way…You don’t do it unless you know deep down in your soul that it’s the right thing to do. If I can’t be honest with myself about what I’m doing, I’m no good for anything.” Another student asked Caitlyn about her status as an LGBT role model. “I’m not a role model!” Jenner replied. “I’m so new to this community I don’t expect to be one.” Caitlyn also reflected on the fact she never told her father she was transgender before he died over a decade ago. Cait said she imagines her dad telling her today, “You know what, you’re doing a good job. You’re making a difference.” [From E! News] “I have gotten more flack for being a conservative Republican than I have for being trans.” That’s because your political affiliation is a choice. Being transgender is not a choice. You can chose to open your mind, acknowledge your privilege and try to open yourself to the transgender community. Or you can just be a rich, white Republican woman complaining about how those messy trans people are living on government handouts. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.
