On how women are valued for their looks instead of their accomplishments: I’ve never seen the maturation of a woman as a negative thing. I’ve never seen a woman stepping into her more powerful self as a negative. But this conversation perpetuates the problem. Why are we talking about how women look? Tara Reid & Jenny McCarthy got into a messy fight on Jenny’s SiriusXM show

As I was looking through our recent photos of Jenny McCarthy, I had a sudden realization: with all of her plastic surgery, botox and fillers, she’s morphing into some weird Charlize Theron clone. It’s really odd. I bring up Jenny’s “work” because it came up completely organically in the middle of Jenny’s SiriusXM radio show. Jenny’s guest on Friday was Tara Reid, of Sharknado and Taradise “fame.” Personally, I think Jenny and Tara are pretty evenly matched as far as likeability and relevance, so I’m not choosing sides on this one. What happened during the interview was a thing of f—king beauty though. I think Jenny really was trying to be nice… at first. Then Jenny realized the whole thing was going sideways, and decided to be a bitch. And Tara Reid got some really good jabs in too. People Mag did the transcript, but I’m including the audio at the end of the post. As I listened to it… yes, I do think Jenny was trying to be a real interviewer and Tara was bitchy first. But the whole exchange… my God. Here you go: The interview began with McCarthy, 43, complementing Reid on her latest reality show appearance in Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars. “I f—ing love you on that show, but are you glad you did it?” the host asked. “It’s not worth the time to talk about,” Reid replied. “There’s confusing things about it. We are not talking about it.” McCarthy then made a remark about how she just loved the show “so much,” to which Reid continued to say, “Babe, I asked you, please let’s not talk about this show. We’re all here about Sharknado.” The host then shifted to the film and asked Reid if she had to get into peak physical shape for it. “It’s not like you really need to get into shape,” she replied. “It’s Sharknado. They’re fake sharks.” McCarthy then brought up the topic of Reid’s past surgeries and asked if she was still going under the knife. “No, I haven’t had any surgery for awhile, Jenny,” she replied before going silent on the microphone and talking to someone out of earshot. “You look great now. So, you’re good and done, not moving forward with plastic surgery?” McCarthy continued to ask. “I think I’ve made that clear about 100 times,” Reid snapped back. “Maybe you only read the bad things, but I’ve made that really clear for so many years. Read what you want to read… It was really nice talking to you and really good luck with your show.” “Good luck to you, too, and I’m so excited about Sharknado and I hope you stay married,” McCarthy calmly quipped back. “I hope your knees get a little wobblier than they already are.” “I hope you stay married too. I’m sure he’s a nice guy,” Reid responded. “I hope your tits get even nicer, because they’re amazing. The same guy who did mine, right? I’ll always use your advice. You’re the best. Bye.” “Love you, Tara. Good luck with Sharknado 18,” McCarthy replied. [From people] Tara Reid cops quite an attitude for someone currently promoting Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens (that’s seriously the name of it) and Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars. And Jenny cops quite an attitude about Tara’s plastic surgery considering Jenny is trying to remake herself into Anti-Vaxx Barbie. Khloe Kardashian complains about tabloid sexism, ‘double standards’

Here is Khloe Kardashian’s cover editorial for Glamour Mexico, the July issue. Can’t say I’m a big fan on the dark lipstick on Khloe – it emphasizes the extent to which she’s jacked her lips. Khloe has said that this cover shoot reminded her that she wants to take out her extensions and have short hair again, which I think she should do – I really loved her lob from late last year, and I thought it was super-flattering on her. Meanwhile, Khloe went off on a long-winded tirade about the tabloid interest in her love life, which…yeah, not so much. I have some residual affection for Khloe because I think she’s “the smart one” out of her family, but this essay (on her subscription app) was just dumb. She loves it when we’re paying attention to her love life. She loves it when we’re paying attention to her in any way. “The most annoying thing about tabloid rumors is the double standard. If I’m ‘spotted’ hanging with a guy at a party – even if I’m just saying hi for a quick second – it immediately becomes a negative headline about how many guys I’m dating or how I’m getting into a new relationship. Men don’t get that reputation! They get a pat on the back. It irritates me.” “People have taken pictures of me and say they’re proof of something concrete. Pictures are just moments in time. They never show the whole truth. In Hollywood, you could go out on a first date and it could spiral into this huge thing. The headline the next day is ‘Khloé’s Getting Married!’ LOL. It’s so weird. That stuff definitely makes it difficult to take it slow and see how things go.” “I normally don’t comment on those stories, but if it gets out of control, I’ll speak up – especially because that kind of gossip affects how people see me. A guy could assume I’m dating someone and not approach me, when I’m actually single.” “Sometimes I completely avoid going out in public with a new guy because I don’t want to deal with the sexist headlines. Too much drama for me!” [From People] “I don’t want to deal with the sexist headlines…” that come from the storylines written by Keeping Up with the Kardashians writers. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of sexism in the tabloids and in tabloid-driven narratives. But hearing a Kardashian complain about her tabloid coverage is like listening to Taylor Swift complain about being perceived as twee and boy-crazy. You are the one driving the narrative!!! Chelsea Handler: ‘You should like other girls, if you don’t, you’re Angelina Jolie’

At the end of Drew Barrymore’s interview on Chelsea Handler’s first Netflix show, they discussed how much they support and love other women. I didn’t mention this in Drew’s story because this is on Chelsea, not Drew. Chelsea ended with this gem “If you are a girl you should kind of like other girls, and if you don’t, your name is Angelina Jolie.” It’s like all her jokes are from 2005, but more than that, Angelina’s name was on the tip of her tongue like she was thinking of her this whole time. We know she hates Angelina and apparently that supersedes her ability to make a relevant joke. You know which name would have fit there? Becky. To promote her show and her same tired shtick, Chelsea has a first person essay for Motto magazine, which is put out by Time. She waxes on about how she’s single and how single women are stigmatized by society. She does make some decent points, but it sounds more about her than about the topic. Here’s some of what she said: On the practicality of being single I understand the urge to procreate and the beauty of having children, but on the other hand, might perhaps this “be fruitful and multiply” experiment of 7.4 billion humans on the planet possibly be due for a serious mental health and environmental check-up. On single men As is the tradition in what is still mostly a man’s world, single females still bear the disproportionate brunt of single-shaming and single-bewilderment-syndrome, while men tend to receive an understanding wink and a nod regarding their bachelor achievements, bedroom conquests and beer breakfasts. On embracing being single It’s not just O.K. to be single for both men and women—it’s wonderful to be single, and society needs to embrace singlehood in all its splendiferous, solitary glory. On what to say to single women Next time you see a single woman, instead of asking her where her boyfriend, husband or eunuch is, congratulate her on her accomplished sense of self and for reaching the solitary mountaintop by herself without a ring on her finger weighing her down like a male paperweight. Plus, once you get to a certain age, there’s something glorious about not having to deal with another person in your space. I get the impression that’s her default mode though. She dated the head of E! until her show was off the ground and after that she was on-off with Andre Balazs. The last we heard she was with Bobby Flay, but that was probably a fling. Jennifer Aniston has never said anything stupid about feminism. Since questions about feminism have been popular with entertainment journalists for the past few years, Aniston has been asked about her feminism several times, and she always maintains that yes, she is a feminist and no, she has no problem identifying that way. There’s no word-game about “humanism.” There’s no “but I like boys, thus I can’t be a feminist!” Well, as part of her People Magazine “Most Beautiful” cover, Aniston answered a lot of questions about different things, including feminism. And she cites Gloria Steinem as the person who taught her about feminism. She also talks about skinny jeans! Jennifer’s biggest beauty icon is Gloria Steinem. “I’ve always thought Gloria is quite stunning for many, many reasons besides her exterior. She’s taught me about feminism. There was a time when I was like, ‘I’m not quite sure I understand what this is?’ And she’s like, ‘It’s very simple: it’s just about equality. That’s all it is.’ She’s just taught me – have you seen her HBO documentary? I’ve seen it like eight times. She’s just a very beautiful, strong woman.” What Justin Theroux likes to see her wear: “Well, let me tell you. I think I’m pretty much the same but he really enjoys me in a skinny jean, which I loathe. But I think I have more skinny jeans these days than normal.” How she influenced Justin’s wardrobe: “Color! Not just black. It’s quite adorable.” What she’s learned about love: “Oh it comes in all shapes and sizes. It’s something to be taken care of and cherished. And paid attention to. And she’s right to dislike them too: she looks much cuter in a straight-leg or even a boot-cut jean. But of course Justin likes the skinny jeans – he even loves to wear his own skinny jeans. As for the feminism stuff… I think Jennifer could do much better than Gloria Steinem when it comes to feminist role models, but this is fine. Melissa McCarthy Has a Message for Body Shamers

Melissa McCarthy recently showed off a 50-pound weight loss, but truth be told, she doesn’t really want to talk about it. “If that is the most interesting thing about me, I need to go have a lavender farm in Minnesota and give this up,” she told Refinery29. “There are so many more intriguing things about women than their butt or their this or their that. It can’t be the first question every time, or a question at all.” Regrettably, women today are still being scrutinized for their weight, and today, the actress took to Instagram to vent her frustration. She posted an image of a sign stuck to a mirror that reads, “WARNING: Reflections in this mirror may be distorted by socially constructed ideas of ‘beauty.'” Well said.  In the caption, she included her own poignant message: “We have to stop categorizing and judging women based on their bodies. We are teaching young girls to strive for unattainable perfection instead of feeling healthy and happy in their own skin. ‘Imagine we are linked not ranked.’ Gloria Steinem” Looks like she’s ready to start a conversation, or more likely, end the one that’s been going on for far too long.  The star is tired of women being valued solely for their bodies when they have so much more to offer. “We’re always being ranked and when we come together, you know, women are amazing together,” she said in a recent interview. “Women are friends. Women are not really competing with each other. I think everyone wants to make it seem that way with who wore it better, whose butt is better, whose glasses are crazier.
