Katherine Heigl: ‘I absolutely owe anyone an apology I unwittingly offended’

Kitty litter spokeswoman Katherine Heigl would like to explain why she shouldn’t have said all of the terrible things she’s said. Heigl appeared on Howard Stern’s show on Wednesday – perhaps to shill kitty litter? – and she and Stern ended up getting into EVERYTHING. It would involve about a million links, so perhaps it’s best to glance through our Heigl archives from the past, say, seven years. Or more. She’s been a pill for the better part of a decade and there are dozens of instances of her unpleasant attitude, diva behavior and general sourness. And what’s funny is that Howard Stern basically asked her about all of it. On criticizing Knocked Up after it made her a star: “That was dumb. I liked the movie a lot. I just didn’t like me. She was kind of like, she was so judgmental and kind of uptight and controlling and all these things and I really went with it while we were doing it, and a lot of it, Judd allows everyone to be very free and improvise and whatever and afterwards, I was like, ‘Why is that where I went with this? What an a–hole she is!’ It was, again, one of those situations, it was a huge opportunity for me. I was being interviewed for Vanity Fair. Like, I was on the cover of Vanity Fair, it was a huge big deal for me. And the journalist…just said, ‘You know a lot of women felt it was a little sexist’ so then I felt obligated to answer that and so I tried in my very sort of ungracious way to answer why I felt that it maybe was a little.” She admits she didn’t even call Judd Apatow to apologize: “I probably should’ve [called them]. But what I did was very, I did it publicly instead and kind of tried to say, look, this was not what I meant and this was an incredible experience for me and they were incredibly good to me on this movie, so I did not mean to s–t on them at all. I’ve thought about like, writing a note. I feel embarrassed. I don’t want it to feel insincere on any level.” Why she announced that she was withdrawing her name from Emmy consideration in 2008: “I didn’t feel good about my performance. There was a part of me that thought, because I had won the year before, that I needed juicy, dramatic, emotional material and I just didn’t have that that season… I went in [to speak to Shonda Rhimes] ’cause I was really embarrassed. So I went in to Shonda and said, ‘I’m so sorry. That wasn’t cool. I should not have said that’…I shouldn’t have said anything publicly but at the time, I didn’t think anybody would notice. I didn’t know that journalists would see who submitted and who didn’t. I just quietly didn’t submit and then it became a story and then I felt I was obligated to make my statement and ‘shut up, Katie.’” She owes apologies to a lot of people: “I absolutely owe anyone an apology I unwittingly offended or disrespected. I get it. It was an immature dumbass moment.” She started going to therapy: “I started going because of the scrutiny – and I was not handling it well. I was feeling completely like the biggest piece of s— on the bottom of your shoe. I was really struggling with it and how to not take it all really personally.” She found herself acting timidly on sets: “I was like, ‘This is nonsense. Stop it. Get some help and own your voice.’ “ [From E! News and People] Just my opinion: she’s still full of sh-t. You can hear the bullsh-t and lies and inadvertent truths dripping off these quotes. “…That I needed juicy, dramatic, emotional material and I just didn’t have that that season…” Meaning she still feels like she was fundamentally justified for throwing the writers under the bus. Meaning she still feels like her material was sub-par and it was her duty to say so publicly. And then: “I’ve thought about like, writing a note. I feel embarrassed. I don’t want it to feel insincere on any level.” Why would it be “insincere,” Heigl? Because you would just be apologizing with an eye-roll? Because she’s still pissed off that people are still disgusted by how many times she “unwittingly” offended and disrespected them. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Prince William & Kate did their final tour photo-op in front of the Taj Mahal

Embed from Getty Images We’re finally at the end of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s exhaustive India-Bhutan royal tour. The tour did not go off without a hitch, although I have to say… it felt like Will and Kate kept up a tighter, busier schedule than they have for previous tours. They saved “the best for last,” meaning they saved the biggest photo-op for their very last day. They flew out of Bhutan early this morning and went back to India for the Taj Mahal photo-op. Several months ago, I wouldn’t have said this photo-op was any big deal – after all, most tourists moving through India try to see the Taj Mahal. But Will and Kate made such a big deal about Princess Diana’s connection to the Taj and how they were going there to “create new memories,” so it became a big deal, likely the biggest part of their tour. Apparently it was 109 degrees Fahrenheit (aka hot as balls) in Agra today and both Will and Kate were sweating a bit, as we all would be. Still, Kate chose not to pull her hair up, because of course she didn’t. Kate also chose to wear a Indian-American designer, Naeem Khan. This dress has a STRAIGHT SKIRT, people! We’re on high alert! Kate realized that she couldn’t flash everyone at the Taj Mahal, so she consciously chose a straight skirt, not some light, un-weighted full skirt. Princess Diana also wore a straight-ish wrap skirt when she went to the Taj Mahal (alone). But… Kate didn’t attempt a redo/homage of Diana’s look, thankfully. Diana paired purple with red and white. Kate did blue and white. You’ll also notice that the scaffolding still appears on the Taj Mahal, so the Cambridges didn’t get their way in asking for the scaffolding to be taken down for their photo-op. PS… I missed a few outfits in Bhutan, but over the next few days, I’ll be doing some wrap-up stories on the tour and some of the minor controversies, so we’ll have those fashion pics in the coming days, don’t worry! Duchess Kate wears decade-old boots, skinny jeans for Bhutan hike: cute?

Embed from Getty Images It’s been said before, but it’s worth repeating: the Duchess of Cambridge is at her best when she gets to do something athletic. When the photo-op involves running, hiking or being sporty, she does well. So these photos are totally fine with me – William and Kate took a three-hour hike today in Bhutan. It was an uphill climb/hike to the Tiger’s Nest monastery built into a clifftop. It’s one of the biggest tourist sites in Bhutan, which brings me to another point that a lot of the royal reporters have been making… just like Will and Kate’s Australia/New Zealand tour two years ago, this tour has seemingly involved a lot of tourist activities, almost like this is a government-sponsored vacation. Of course Will and Kate wanted to see the Tiger’s Nest and of course they enjoyed themselves. But don’t call it a royal tour, you know? Call it what it is: a vacation. For the hours-long hike, Kate chose a decent ensemble. Meaning, at least she didn’t attempt a lengthy hike in wedges or heels. She actually pulled out some brown Penelope Chilvers boots which she’s had in her closet for more than a decade. Kate was actually wearing these boots in one of her most famous college-era photos (go here to see). The boots cost £475. She paired her old boots with skinny jeans (that likely have some stretch), a simple white blouse and the £495 Nubuck vest/waistcoat. I don’t understand why a three-hour hike wouldn’t have been a perfect moment for a ponytail, but then again, I’m not a duchess. Apparently, as they were hiking, Kate joked that they were “burning off the curry.” The Daily Mail also points out that William was working up a sweat but that Kate is so sporty that she was breezing through the hike. I love that the @KensingtonRoyal Twitter manager posted the butt shot like that was the big take-away image from the hike. Bethenny Frankel: Minority companies should hire white spokesmen (Update)

Embed from Getty Images To be fair to a woman who has established that she’s a racist a-hole, we are relying on secondhand accounts of a talk which Bethenny Frankel gave to a room of women business owners, at a conference called Project Entrepreneur. Jezebel compiled the responses to Bethenny’s speech and several attendees were outraged. Bethenny allegedly (again this is secondhand as there is no video) told minority women that they should hire white male spokespeople for their businesses. Several attendees tweeted about this. Bethenny also reportedly suggested using sex for business purposes. When two women of color got up during the Q&A session to tell Bethenny how wrong she was, they were shut down. An entrepreneur named Mary Pryor blogged about her experience trying to question Bethenny about her offensive speech: I was one of the women who tried to stand up to reality TV star and Skinny Girl Vodka founder, Bethenny Frankel, at a women’s entrepreneurial summit over the weekend. And was silenced. As a participant in Rent The Runway’s and UBS’s Project Entrepreneur, a new initiative to equip women founders with the tools and advice they need to thrive in the marketplace, I was stunned when Frankel implied that women should have sex with men in exchange for capital. I was offended when she expressed some kind of kinship with black women because she’s “loud.” And I was taken aback when she advised those of us in the room to get business advice to hire a white man as the face of our companies. The session was not recorded, but it caused a firestorm both in New York City, where the event took place, and on social media. Another female founder of color, Naomi Hirabayashi of Shine Text, was just as disturbed given this response. Many of the women of color in the audience turned their heads in shock. Some took to the mic, prepared to address the inflammatory remarks. While Frankel’s flawed advice comes with unfortunate truths regarding access to funding- white men do get the lion’s share of venture capital funding while black women founders don’t seem to even register on the radar. This phenomenon was most recently covered in Digital Undivided’s #ProjectDiane report; it’s clear tech has a long way to go when it comes to supporting black women founders. Armed with this knowledge, I weighed the pros and cons of responding to Frankel after I saw eye rolling, dismissive stares, and “Here she goes!” reactions from other women in the room but. Something needed to be said. Not even when the wrong-headedness was called to her attention, Frankel didn’t back down. Nothing. No apology. No acknowledgement of an ignorant reply. Just a comment from a moderator about “breaking up a fight” and removing the mic from our hands. Naomi and I stood there shaking our heads. We stood up to defend female founders of color. She stood up as an ally aware of bias and ignorance in tech. We came together respectfully and left disappointed. [From The Huffington Post via Jezebel] Project Entrepreneur has since apologized while Bethenny has tweeted some nonsense about color not mattering. You know that means she said all these obnoxious things. I don't care if ur woman, man, black, white, hispanic, green or purple. In biz & life be better than everyone else.Don't complain.Don't explain. — Bethenny Frankel (@Bethenny) April 13, 2016 Here are some tweets about this speech: (4) For @Bethenny to insist that a young, Black female founder "Find a white guy" to rep her biz is a racial microaggression #PEIntensive16 — Mary Pryor (@msmarypryor) April 11, 2016 To the brave black woman who asked what to do when ppl tell her to get a white man as the face of her org,Im so sorry for @Bethenny's answer — Marah Lidey (@marahml) April 9, 2016 Convo w/ @bethenny: should u do whatever it takes 2 succeed like hiring a white male spokesperson as a minority entrepreneur? #PEIntensive16 — Ellen Choi (@LNchoi) April 9, 2016 1.Hi @msmarypryor TY for standing up+speaking your mind. The fact that you felt shut down is completely contrary to the goals of the weekend — Project Entrepreneur (@pjtentrepreneur) April 11, 2016 We apologize to you and our guests. — Project Entrepreneur (@pjtentrepreneur) April 11, 2016 Project Entrepreneur went one further and tweeted that Bethenny was wrong, essentially and that “We believe that every founder is enough on her own. We disagree with any sentiments to the contrary.” I hope this means that businesses and organizations will think twice before giving Bethenny a platform, but then I see the orange idiot who’s running for president and realize that there are a lot of racists who are being given platforms lately. Update: Bethenny has denied saying this despite the many eyewitness accounts and she has gone on to block several people on Twitter insisting she said it. Duchess Kate wore buttery Emilia Wickstead for her Bhutan arrival: lovely?

Embed from Getty Images Look very carefully at these photos… I think someone finally convinced the Duchess of Cambridge to add weights to her hems!! These are pics from the Duke and Duchess’s arrival in Bhutan today. For the plane exit (which I’m sure counts as an event for these two), Kate decided to wear an Emilia Wickstead coatdress in a muted butter yellow. The dress costs $169, because of course it does. While it doesn’t look like it was very windy today in Bhutan, I still think that someone got through to Kate and finally, at long last, convinced her to take precautions with her hems. Now if we could only get her to stop slouching. After the arrival, Will and Kate joined the Dragon King and Queen for a special reception in Thimpu Dzong, and Kate changed into another outfit – you can see the ensemble here. She paired a £340 Paul and Joe blouse – with a built-in cape – with a long, straight skirt that looked somewhat traditional for Bhutan. That was fine, I think. But she paired the ensemble with her nude court shoes and it just looked ridiculous. Update: here’s video of Kate walking in that Bhutanese inspired outfit. Jennifer Lopez: Dancers are better in bed, ‘musicians are too self-absorbed’

Jennifer Lopez’s W Magazine profile just gave me the perfect term for why I love her so much: she is “the people’s diva.” Like, the people’s princess, only in multi-hyphenate diva form. Anyway, I sort of hate Jennifer’s W Magazine editorial – you can see the slideshow here. It’s sort of awful, and they made Jennifer wear a terrible blonde mullet wig in half the pics. As for the interview, it’s longer than most W Mag profiles. It reads like a day-in-the-life piece, and Jennifer is really, really busy. You can read the full piece here, and here are some highlights: The people’s diva: “I’ve been in the grind and the game for a long time. At a certain point, people respect you when they see you fall down and get back up. The more you’re in this life, the more they celebrate your triumphs. When it comes to work, I never get tired. But with personal failures, I have thought, This is too hard. When my marriage ended, it was not easy to find forgiveness. It wasn’t the dream that I had hoped for, and it would have been easier to fan the flames of resentment, disappointment, and anger. But Marc is the father of my children [8-year-old twins], and that’s never going away. So, I have to work to make things right. And that is, by far, the hardest work I do.” She’s fine-boned: “When I first came to Los Angeles, someone told me I would be a star because of my tiny ankles and wrists. They said that was the key to it all.” She’s constantly being swarmed by fans: “It’s been like that since Selena. I never thought about fame until then. After that film, I would have panic attacks. I remember walking down the street, and someone yelled, ‘Jennifer!’ and I didn’t know who it was. I ran home. From that point forward, I realized I couldn’t be alone in public. I don’t think I’ve been alone on the street in over 20 years.” Who is better in bed: “Last time I was here, they asked me who is better in bed—dancers, musicians, or actors? I said, ‘Dancers!’ Musicians are too self-absorbed. They are too concerned with themselves to be great in bed.” On Marc Anthony: “I hung in there for seven years. I knew very quickly that it wasn’t the right thing.” On Casper Smart: “We got together and broke up and are now together again. I still think about getting married and having that long life with someone. I love the movie The Notebook. A dream of mine is to grow old with someone.” On being more accessible after her stint on American Idol: “It has been easier. People may now think I’m ‘nice,’ but they still act surprised when I’m smart. It’s a man’s world, and, truly, people in a business setting do not value a woman as much as a man. I feel like I’m constantly having to prove myself. If a man does one thing well, people immediately say he’s a genius. Women have to do something remarkable over and over and over. And, even then, they get questions about their love life. People underestimate me. They always have, and maybe that’s for the best. It’s fun to prove them wrong.” [From W Magazine] I do think J.Lo is smart… in almost every area of her life. She’s dumb in love, but smart everywhere else. And she’s right about people undervaluing her simply because she’s a woman, just as she’s right about constantly being underestimated. I love the bit about her thin ankles and wrists, I love the shade she has for Marc Anthony and I’m absolutely astonished that she hasn’t been alone in public in 20 years. She’s also wrong about dancers being the best lovers – swimmers are obviously the best lovers! Meanwhile, there’s one thing I’d like to mention – last week, there was a controversy about J.Lo’s new single, “Ain’t Your Mama.” The song is awful, full-stop. But it was written by Meghan Trainor, and there were widespread reports that the track had been “produced” by Dr. Luke. Jennifer got a lot of online hate and shade for that. But E! News reported that Trainor had written the song several years back and her version was produced by Dr. Luke back then, before Kesha’s lawsuit. Then Trainor gave the song to J.Lo and J.Lo didn’t know Dr. Luke had ever had his fingerprints on it. Trainor confirmed that version of events this week, calling the backlash against Jennifer “ridiculous” and “not fair on her, not at all.” Photos courtesy of W Magazine.

Duchess Kate had a ‘Marilyn Moment’ in Wickstead at the war memorial

Embed from Getty Images I told you guys that this week was going to be full-time Celebwiglet, and here we are. The time difference is affecting when and how we get photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal tour of India and Bhutan, but these are photos from their second day in India. They wore the same thing as they quickly moved through several events, and while Will and Kate were criticized for bringing too many activities to them (as opposed to going out in the city), I have to say, they are getting out of their luxury-hotel-comfort-zone. For the day-activities, Kate chose to theme-dress in what seems like an almost militaristic-inspired Emilia Wickstead dress with a full skirt. While I think this could have been pretty, the things that bug me the most are the breast pockets. I’ve convinced myself that they’re not even real pockets, they were just added to give a certain look to the dress, and the design bugs me because… well, those faux-pockets just look like breast flaps. Oh, and the dress costs £1,700. Which is sort of ridiculous. As everyone predicted, Kate loathes adding weights to her hems, so of course her full, un-weighted skirt blew up several times during the day. It was particularly inappropriate considering they were making a somber visit to lay a wreath at the India Gate memorial to pay their respects to the 70,000 Indian soldiers who died in WWI. Cool war memorial, would you like to see my duchess-biscuit? You can see those photos here. Oh, and Kate also refused to eat some Indian food that William had made (food he tried himself).
