Tom Hiddleston: ‘I’m here to tell you that my butt is not dangerous’

I still find Tom Hiddleston’s W Magazine editorial to be the funniest thing of the week. Now that I’ve had more time to process it, it’s actually even funnier to me. The thing is, I don’t doubt that Tom can be a sexy guy. But Tom needs the right conditions, and the right conditions don’t involve a brightly lit room, white boxer shorts and Zoolander poses. The editorial still seems like a satire of what a “sexy” dude photoshoot should be. Imagine Mike Meyers or Will Ferrell doing the same editorial and it would be JUST AS FUNNY. There’s been a lot of breast-beating amongst the true-blue Dragonflies and Hiddlestoners that W Magazine did Tom wrong, that this editorial was supposed to be part of a larger profile of up-and-coming TV stars or Emmy hopefuls, maybe. Perhaps that’s the case. But that still doesn’t explain why in God’s name Tom agreed to the photoshoot. Someone needs to be fired! The editorial is the visual equivalent of Tom’s trying-too-hard Graham Norton interview. And besides that, my guess is that someone on Tom’s team had to give the go-ahead to W Mag to run this piece as an “Introduction to Taylor Swift’s Boyfriend!” article. And if that’s the case, someone should be fired. I didn’t get around to discussing this new quote from the W piece either – Tom was asked about how AMC edited out his naked butt from the American airing of The Night Manager. Tom says: “I was surprised to hear that they cut my butt out. I’m here to tell you that my butt is not dangerous. And there are many, many more dangerous things that people are happy to broadcast. I don’t know what that says about the world we live in, but it probably says something.” [From W Magazine] I watched TNM as it aired on AMC and let me tell you, I felt that edit in my soul. It’s not that I was that hungry for Hiddlesbum, it’s that the edit made it seem like Jonathan Pine and Jed’s lovemaking lasted about 30 seconds, if that. Meanwhile, I have to say, I’ve been avoiding a lot of the “think pieces” on TIDDLES, because I do this for a living and it pains me a little bit when people write about Hiddleston or Taylor Swift without understanding their individual histories. If you’ve followed Taylor’s romantic history, nothing about TIDDLES is a surprise at all. If you’ve followed Tom’s romantic history, everything about TIDDLES is a surprise. Which brings me to this “think piece” at the NY Post – “Taylor Swift Is Dating Like A Dude.” The main argument is that Taylor: A) doesn’t apologize, B) is not afraid to air her dirty laundry and trash-talk exes, C) rolls with an entourage, and D) rebounds quickly. While I agree that Taylor is feeling herself these days, when I think of “women who date like dudes,” I think of women like Kate Hudson or even (dare I say) Gwyneth Paltrow. They own their sh-t. And most importantly, they don’t play the victim. We’re about one month away from Taylor crying to Vanity Fair that she’s being “slut shamed” because she staged photos of her romantic rendezvous with Hiddles. Snoop Dogg wants people to boycott the History Channel’s ‘Roots’ miniseries

I did not watch the History Channel’s miniseries reboot of Roots. The miniseries began last night, and it continues over four nights. The original miniseries – also based on Alex Haley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book – was groundbreaking television when it was made in 1977. It was one of the most-watched television events in American history and it became a national talking point in a larger conversation about race and civil rights in America. The History Channel’s reboot (or “reimagining”) of the miniseries with a whole new cast is supposed to be reflective of our current conversation about race in America, about Black Lives Matter, about violence against black bodies and more. But some people are just tired of watching movies and miniseries about slavery. One of those people is Snoop Dogg. Snoop Dogg has no plans to watch the Roots remake, and he’s telling his fans to also boycott the show. The rapper sent out his message over social media on Monday. “I’m sick of this sh-t. How the f— are they going to put Roots on, on Memorial Day?” Snoop said in an Instagram video. “They going to just to keep beating that sh-t into our heads about how they did us, huh?” The History channel’s revival is a four-part, eight-hour series that debuts Monday. Snoop said he has no interest in new shows and movies — specifically mentioning 12 Years a Slave — that “keep showing the abuse we took hundreds and hundreds of years ago.” “I ain’t watching that sh-t, and I advise you motherf-—ers as real n— like myself; f— them television shows,” Snoop said. “Let’s create our own shit based on today, how we live and how we inspire people today. Black is what’s real. F— that old sh-t.” [From THR] Snoop Dogg, social critic. Is it weird that I think he has a completely legitimate point? The most recent example is the 2013-14 awards season, where 12 Years a Slave dominated and Fruitvale Station was ignored. While I thought 12 Years was a powerful piece of filmmaking and a film full of incredible performances, why was it pushed for awards while Fruitvale largely ignored? Fruitvale was a modern story (and a true story, like 12 Years) of brutality on black bodies. Both were important films that said important things. But Hollywood likes to reward films and miniseries about slavery and white saviors and downtrodden historical black folks. They don’t want to reward modern stories about the African-American experience, with multifaceted African-American characters operating in a multiethnic and morally ambiguous context. Leah Messer Whines To Friend As Daughter Falls Off Swing

UGH LEAH. On the one hand, Leah Messer takes a beating from Teen Mom 2 viewers and it makes you feel a little bad for her. On the other, she does sh** like this that makes you forget those feels from just a moment ago. On this week’s episode, Messer, 25, took her girls to the playground.  Fine.  A great day out. Messer was more focused on her love life and her lunch to keep an eye on her kids. “I don’t want to be in a relationship, I need time,” Messer told her friend. “I’m focusing on my kids… I’m learning how to embrace struggles.” As those words left her mouth, daughter Ali fell out of a swing, landing on her back and head (the six-year-old sufferse from muscular dystrophy). Messer did rush over to the child as soon as the accident happened, but fans were ticked off because they didn’t think she was paying close attention. View Slideshow: Leah Messer Bad Parenting Excuse Hall of Fame “I know kids fall, but Leah definitely wasn’t watching them at the park,” one viewer wrote on social media. “Ali fell so hard,” another pointed out. “She [Leah] didn’t even check her head. She could of gotten a concussion. All she did was wipe off her back.” To make matters even worse, 3-year-old Adalynn (Messer’s daughter with ex-husband Jeremy Calvert) was climbing to great heights on the jungle gym. “Addi with NO SUPERVISION,” yet another viewer wrote, blasting Messer’s negligence. The worst part?  Messer spent the episode claiming that she deserved 50/50 custody of her children. “Leah isn’t capable of having those kids,” one more user tweeted. “You do not have your s**t together.” Leah Messer to Kids: I’ll Get You to School Whenever I Want!

Jenelle Evans vs. Kailyn Lowry & Chelsea Houska in Epic Teen Mom Feud!

We’re sure you’re not at all shocked to learn that Jenelle Evans has stirred up some new drama, but you might be surprised that for once, the target of her outrage isn’t her mother, or her baby daddy Nathan Griffith, but rather, two of her more stable Teen Mom 2 co-stars. It all started last month, when Jenelle launched her own website in order to connect with fans. Shortly thereafter, Chelsea Houska launched a site of her own, and because Jenelle clearly thinks that starting a website in 2016 is some sort of novel concept, she got super pissed at Chelsea for stealing her idea. “Monkey see monkey do…unreal” Jenelle wrote, in a tweet that’s since been deleted. “So over this show.” Kailyn Lowry quickly jumped to her friend’s defense, tweeting at Jenelle: “They say imitation is the best form of flattery…It’s also flattering when someone thinks you’re copying them. Sorry babe, but no.” Jenelle has yet to respond publicly, but insiders say it may be because she’s planning a lawsuit. Yes, according to Radar Online, it’s not just the website that’s outraged Jenelle.  Sources say she also believes that Houska contacted her publicity team in hopes of beating Jenelle to the punch on a skincare line and a number of other business ventures. “Chelsea had contacted one of Jenelle’s publicist’s clients and it made Jenelle mad,” says the source. “She voiced her opinion, and then she was attacked by Chelsea’s fans and fans of the show. “Jenelle’s working on a skincare line, has a new website, working on Potty Trainers and all of these other partnership things. Chelsea comes out with a website and reached out to Jenelle’s skincare person – Jenelle’s annoyed by the copying.” A different source says Jenelle is the victim in all this, as Kailyn and Chelsea have basically teamed up against her: “There is a lot of hate going on. Jenelle doesn’t speak to Kailyn anymore. She doesn’t speak to Chelsea anymore. They leave her out of everything,” the insider claims. “There is a lot jealousy. They see Jenelle is in the spotlight and that she is working on branding herself a lot.” Wow. Sounds like some serious drama. Frankly, we’re surprised Jenelle has time for all her Twitter feuds these days.

Charlie Hunnam cast as a Mexican-American cartel leader in ‘American Drug Lord’

Just my opinion: Charlie Hunnam fans have a reason to be worried about his post-Sons of Anarchy career. Hunnam’s career jumpoff was supposed to be Crimson Peak and Fifty Shades of Grey. But Crimson Peak sort of bombed and he dropped out of FSOG after a lot of breast-beating and dramatics. Then his next big career move was supposed to be King Arthur, and it was supposed to be Hunnam’s big summer offering this year… only the release date got pushed back from July 2016 to February 2017, which is not good. So what is Charlie’s next big career move? Playing a Mexican-American cartel drug-lord. Seriously. Before everyone completely loses it, Charlie has been cast as Edgar Valdez in what is a true story in the film American Drug Lord. Valdez was an American citizen, a high school football star in Texas, and he became the only American citizen to “rise to the level of cartel leader in Mexico.” Valdez was also light-skinned and blue-eyed, apparently, and he had the football and cartel-nickname of La Barbie. While Hunnam might “look the part,” this is still an example of Hollywood whitewashing. Even when Hollywood decides to make a movie about a Hispanic figure, they cast someone white (and English). Even when the casting could go any way – as in, they could have cast a Latino actor or a mixed-race actor – producers always go for the default white actor. As Vanity Fair points out, the industry press is already calling out this casting choice as whitewashing. I think the announcement came at a bad time too, when we’re in the middle of a discussion about representation and diversity and #OscarsSoWhite. This also comes on the heels of some particularly egregious whitewashing examples in film, whether it’s Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily in Pan, or Emma Stone playing an Asian-American woman in Aloha or everyone in Ridley Scott’s Exodus. Ugh. Photos courtesy of WENN, Fame/Flynet.
