Demi Lovato: “I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body”

Demi Lovato recently opened up to Glamour Magazine about body image, the lack of normal bodies in Taylor Swift’s squad and feminism: On the negative response to her “Body Say” images: You don’t say anything, because you can never win. Whether they’re saying that you’re ugly, or that you’re a whore, or that you’re a bad role model, or something else, you’re never gonna win. On exploring sexuality in her image and music: We live in an imbalanced society when it comes to encouraging male sexuality and discouraging female sexuality. In 20 years I hope we’ll look back like, Wow, that’s how it used to be. Question: You’ve said before, in regard to Taylor Swift, “Don’t brand yourself a feminist if you don’t do the work.” How do you see yourself doing the work? Just speaking out. I’m not afraid to talk about the fact that women get paid less than men in the United States and how unfair that is. Talking about it at all is doing the work. And I think every woman does her part in some way. But I think in certain situations, certain people could be doing more if they’re going to claim that as part of their brand. To be honest, and this will probably get me in trouble, I don’t see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body. It’s kind of this false image of what people should look like. And what they should be like, and it’s not real. Question: Well, there are many kinds of “normal” bodies. I think what you’re getting at is there’s just one type of body in that squad. It’s not realistic. And I think that having a song and a video about tearing Katy Perry down, that’s not women’s empowerment. We all do things that aren’t, but I have to ask myself, Am I content with calling myself a feminist? Yes, because I speak out. Question: Do things besides a busy schedule still trigger you? Yeah, of course. Seeing cocaine in movies. I’ve never watched The Wolf of Wall Street. I can’t. I don’t like to go out to clubs, because I find myself seeing remnants of drugs in the bathroom. I did the Victoria’s Secret Swim Special, and being surrounded by supermodels’ bodies was triggering to me. I remember asking, “How do you maintain your figure?” Some said, “I really have to work at it.” Others said, “It’s genetics.” It was interesting to hear that it wasn’t through unhealthy [behaviors]. It was a great learning experience. I still felt sexy, having a different body than these women. I had Wilmer there, who loved my curves—that helped. Chloë Grace Moretz to Young Girl: “You’re enough”

Her message to young women: This year especially, I had to realize that it’s OK to ask for help— it’s OK to not know. As a young woman you feel like you really need to have everything figured out—but it’s all right to say, ‘I don’t know. I have absolutely no idea.’ Keep good people around you because positivity begets positivity. I learned that the hard way. Just try to keep your head above the water and don’t get caught up in all the trash. I think another thing that is really helpful for young women to understand is that you’re enough. You don’t need that dress, you don’t need that compliment, you don’t need that post on social media. You, within yourself, are enough. And, finally, don’t underestimate the power of friendship. … says Chloe in Teen Vogue. More photos of her inside! On her daily morning routine: “I live near the Smile, and I love their scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast. I drink orange juice and coffee always. At home I love scrambled eggs and toast; it’s just an easy go-to. My boyfriend, being British, got me into breakfast beans, so that’s what I’ve been eating lately. Then I’ll go to Twitter for news. It’s so easy—you just enter a keyword and it’s done.” On how she maintains her figure: “I rode horses and played volleyball back home, so when I came to New York, it was really hard for me to just go to the gym. I need to have a sport and wake up and want to get better at something and boxing does that for me… My personal motto is “Eat clean to stay fit, have a burger to stay sane,” so if I’m in the mood, I’ll go to JG Melon in the West Village.” … says Gigi. Ad Ashton Kutcher Book Books celebrities Celebrity Cher Court figure H&M Hollywood image interview IRS Kids magazine Mila Kunis Movie Parenting photos Pregnant quote real red size son sur thin Weird

Mila Kunis: ‘I’m hoping that Wyatt will learn that the word ‘want’ is not necessary’

Mila Kunis is pregnant with her second child, having welcomed daughter Wyatt into the world back in 2014. Even when she was pregnant the first time, Mila often talked about how she didn’t want her children to grow up to be a—holes, meaning that she doesn’t want to raise “Hollywood kids” with access to anything and everything. She wants to raise polite children who get told “no” a lot, because that’s how she was raised. Personally, I think there’s a 50-50 shot at the kids being a—holes anyway, just because of genetics and those kids are half-Kutcher. I also think Mila Kunis might want to check her ‘tude sometimes because she’s come across as an a—hole a few times, and kids learn it from watching their parents. So as Mila was promoting her new film, Bad Moms, Mila talked more about her parenting method. Mila Kunis is determined to keep her children grounded. The Bad Moms star opened up about her fear of raising a child “who is going to be an a-hole” during an AOL Build session in New York City on Wednesday. “I don’t want to be the person who is responsible for putting that into the world,” the 32-year-old confessed. “My one thing that I’ve always said is I just want my children to have empathy in life. I want my kids to be good kids.” And just to be safe, the Ukrainian-born actress — who shares daughter Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher with husband Ashton Kutcher and is expecting their second child — already has a master plan to avoid raising self-entitled kids in Hollywood. “I figured I’m just going to lie. I feel like that is going to be my tactic. Until the kids are old enough to like search on the Internet, which I feel like I can buy myself a couple of years, I’m just going to go, ‘Mommy and daddy are poor,’” she revealed. “They’re just going to have to suck it up because too bad that’s how I grew up, except we were poor, but it worked!” Mila, who plays the fed up mom in the upcoming movie, added, “My kid will never know what it’s like to not have fresh fruit. My kid will never know what it’s like to not have electricity… I learned at a very early age to not say the word ‘want.’ That was out of my vocabulary. It just didn’t exist, and so I’m hoping that Wyatt one day will learn that the word ‘want’ is not necessary.” [From Hello] Thoughts? It reminds me that she really was brought up with a refugee-mentality. It also reminds me a little bit of Malcolm Gladwell’s books, where he tends to argue that the kids brought up with every advantage in life are often the biggest losers. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Mila has been reading David and Goliath or Outliers, actually. Long-term, of course “telling the kids that we’re poor” won’t last, but hopefully she’ll be able to teach them that “wanting” something is different than needing something. Wanting something is also different than deserving something or earning something. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet and WENN.

Kim Kardashian & Kanye West cover Harper’s Bazaar’s September issue

Ah, it’s that time of year when we get to see the September Issue covers. It seems like they start coming in earlier and earlier. Harper’s Bazaar devoted their September issue to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. The photoshoot is decent – there are a few random shots, but I love the close-up of Kim and Kanye’s faces. You can see the full editorial and interview here. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the interview. Kanye often comes across as eccentric and mercurial (if not flat-out crazy) in interviews, but doing a joint interview with Kim grounds him. And while neither of them is going to win a genius grant any time soon, I enjoyed this piece and I think people often miss the fact that Kanye has a very dark, sardonic sense of humor. Some highlights: Kim and Kanye on each other’s favorite body parts: KW: Is the face a body part? My favorite body part of Kim’s: heart. KKW: Awww, now I have to say the same. But of my own, I like my upper stomach. I just seem to always have abs. When I’m not really pregnant, I have a great two-pack. And of Kanye’s? I have to say his heart. And I’ve always loved his legs. Favorite Taylor Swift song? KW: For me? I don’t have one. KKW: I was such a fan of hers. Historical figure you identify with? KKW: This one is hard. KW: Us? Muhammad Ali, Marilyn Monroe—all day. Next question. Favorite selfie pose? KKW: I love a selfie in the mirror. KW: I love her nude selfies. Like, I love the ones from the side, the back ones, and the front. I just love seeing her naked; I love nudity. And I love beautiful shapes. I feel like it’s almost a Renaissance thing, a painting, a modern version of a painting. I think it’s important for Kim to have her figure. To not show it would be like Adele not singing. Who’s more vain? KKW: I mean, me. KW: Yeah, I think she has vanity. And with me, I don’t give a f–k, bro; it is what it is. I’m the best—now what? I don’t know if that’s a vain statement. I don’t particularly like photos of myself, though. What makes you both laugh? KKW: Kanye just says the funniest analogies that are so random. I should start keeping a book—in 20 years, I’ll have a big book of analogies. They always make me laugh. KW: Kim’s just a funny person in general. KKW: But I don’t get credit for being funny; it’s, like, not a thing. KW: I think my sense of humor is really dark and super twisted and stuff like that. It’s like, “Is this a funny joke for real? Or am I just rich?” See? That was funny. How would you like to be remembered? KKW: I’d like to be remembered as someone who was smart in business, works hard, and can be sexy and a mom. A powerful but still sexy, nonconforming woman. And I would hope that Kanye would be remembered for being smart and sticking to what he believes. KW: Determined. I would say my determination is way higher than my smartness. KKW: A lot of people have strong beliefs, but they don’t have the confidence to really stick to them. I really respect Kanye for that. Kanye isn’t an overthinker: “The one thing I don’t have an insecurity about is public perception. I’m not going to conform to it, you know? Here’s something that’s contrary to popular belief: I actually don’t like thinking. I think people think I like to think a lot. And I don’t. I do not like to think at all…. I think about things to put them in a place where I don’t have to think about them anymore. Say if I had a child with a really bad mom, I would have to think more than if I had a child with a good mom. I’m just doing my homework early. I told my trainer today, I’m a mix of a 14-year-old high schooler and a 60-year-old guy. It can never fall into the 30s or the 40s. It has to be 100 percent 60 or 100 percent 14, no in between.” [From Harper’s Bazaar] I do think this is funny: “Is this a funny joke for real? Or am I just rich?” Kanye and Kim also openly talk about his debt and how it felt good for him to talk about it openly, but it sounds like he doesn’t have debt issues anymore, probably because his collaboration with Adidas is going really well. What else? I don’t know, I just think they’re funny and they complement each other really well. There were several really sweet moments between them, like Kim saying that she lies to people all the time about how much Kanye loves to sleep, because he’s like a cat, apparently, and he falls asleep anywhere and everywhere. Ha! Anyway, start the flame war. I like Kimye. Photos courtesy of Harper’s Bazaar.

Kim Kardashian in vintage satin Galliano in Las Vegas: righteous or awful?

Here are some photos of Kim Kardashian in Vegas on Friday night. She attended/hosted a party at Hakkasan at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. Kim is one of the most expensive “gets” for Vegas nightclubs. If they want to go cheap, they get Scott Disick, you know? I suspect that Kim gets mid-six figures plus crazy accommodations per Vegas appearance. Kim wore vintage Galliano to the event, which… the seams seem off? And those shoes were not the best choice. But Kim looked small, and she was definitely showing off her achievement of her “goal weight,” which was to lose 70 pounds post-pregnancy. I think that puts her in the 120-130 lb range, according to Kim. It’s always so difficult to assess Kim’s weight because she’s so curvy with those boobs and that butt, but Kim really is very short and compact. Post-receipts, Kim has returned to business as usual. It’s an interesting move, isn’t it? She’s chosen not to harp on and on about it. She’s chosen not to emphasize, on social media or in interviews, her exposure and takedown of Taylor Swift. Kim fundamentally changed the gossip landscape and she isn’t even really taking a victory lap. I suspect that there will be discussions in future interviews, and I suspect that Kim is waiting patiently to see what Taylor does next. We’ll see. Meanwhile, Kim has been talking to the press, just not about Tay-Tay. She’s been talking about her weight, and she’s been talking about her babies. Kim Kardashian says her and Kanye West’s second child, son Saint West, is a “Daddy’s boy.” In fact, the baby told her so himself, so to speak. “He said Dada today, three times!” Kim told E! News exclusively at the MGM Grand nightclub Hakkasan in Las Vegas Friday night. “And I was like, ‘Wait what?’ Kanye was so excited, he was like, ‘I told him to say that.’ And I was like, just I really wanted him to say ‘Mama’ first.” And the couple’s first and eldest child, daughter North West, is the opposite of her brother. “I have to go back and see what North said first but I think he’s, like, you know, a Daddy’s boy and North is a Mama’s girl, so we each have one,” Kim told E! News. [From E! News] I always suspected North was a daddy’s girl, actually. North seems completely attached to both parents, but maybe she’s just more like her mom. As for Saint saying “Dada” – the baby is only seven months old! Is he really saying “Dada” or is he just making sounds? I’m also including some photos of Kim earlier on the day on Friday, in West Hollywood. People are freaking out about her fur-strap sandals. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.
