Melissa McCarthy Has a Message for Body Shamers

Melissa McCarthy recently showed off a 50-pound weight loss, but truth be told, she doesn’t really want to talk about it. “If that is the most interesting thing about me, I need to go have a lavender farm in Minnesota and give this up,” she told Refinery29. “There are so many more intriguing things about women than their butt or their this or their that. It can’t be the first question every time, or a question at all.” Regrettably, women today are still being scrutinized for their weight, and today, the actress took to Instagram to vent her frustration. She posted an image of a sign stuck to a mirror that reads, “WARNING: Reflections in this mirror may be distorted by socially constructed ideas of ‘beauty.'” Well said.  In the caption, she included her own poignant message: “We have to stop categorizing and judging women based on their bodies. We are teaching young girls to strive for unattainable perfection instead of feeling healthy and happy in their own skin. ‘Imagine we are linked not ranked.’ Gloria Steinem” Looks like she’s ready to start a conversation, or more likely, end the one that’s been going on for far too long.  The star is tired of women being valued solely for their bodies when they have so much more to offer. “We’re always being ranked and when we come together, you know, women are amazing together,” she said in a recent interview. “Women are friends. Women are not really competing with each other. I think everyone wants to make it seem that way with who wore it better, whose butt is better, whose glasses are crazier. Here are some photos of Dirty Ginger Snap Prince Harry unveiling the UK Invictus Team in London on Wednesday. These photos made me sigh deeply and think about his mother. I actually thought, “His mother would be so proud of him in this moment.” To turn his military career into something so positive for veterans… it’s a unique and wonderful thing. At this event, Harry spent a lot of time posing with veterans (and a dog!) – go here to read more. The Invictus Games are in May, and Harry still has more to do to promote the games and work with some of the commonwealth teams. It’s just been announced that he will be traveling to Toronto on May 2 to launch the countdown to the games and meet the Canadian Invictus team. While Harry is in Florida next month, he’ll also be playing a polo match for charity, and he’s bringing his favorite horse. With all of this positivity about Harry (HONKS!), would it be weird if we also discussed the recent comments by Dr Anna Whitelock? She’s a historian – a royal-history historian – and she gave an interview a few days ago about how the British monarchy will likely end in our lifetimes. Whitelock predicted that after the Queen has passed, there will be a larger conversation about ending the monarchy, especially when Charles takes the throne. Whitelock said, in part: “All of those questions about ‘What the hell do we want this kind of unelected family (for)? What does that represent in Britain today?’, all these profound questions have been held in check because of the Queen. I think there’ll be a discussion and a debate in a way that there hasn’t before [after the Queen dies]. As the older generation who are generally more wedded to the monarchy die out, the question of the future of the monarchy will become even more pressing, and then potentially more critical voices will come to the fore. I would say by 2030 there will be definite louder clamours for the eradication of the monarchy. I can’t say that there won’t be a monarchy. I would definitely say that the monarchy – its purpose, what it’s about, will be questioned and challenged in a way that it hasn’t been before. I don’t think it’s out of the question that the monarchy would be potentially be on its last legs.” [From The Express] I do wonder what will happen after the Queen passes. I’ve stopped worrying about what Charles would be like as a king, just because he’s a workhorse and I believe he genuinely cares about public service. Charles has always been prepared to step up to whatever challenges would face him. But yes, when the queen passes and Charles becomes king, there will be these conversations and it will mostly be about what comes after Charles, whose reign will likely be brief. Because people are actually pretty concerned about Workshy Will. If Harry was the heir? If Harry was going to be the Prince of Wales? I think it would be a different story altogether. Chris Evans: It’s a ‘bummer’ when ladies text me back right after we meet

I don’t remember covering these photos of Chris Evans from the Oscars, so here you go. Better late than never. Chris attended this year’s Oscars as a presenter, and he brought his sister Carly and his brother Scott as his dates. He even brought them to the Vanity Fair Oscar party (and Scott is HOT!). Chris is Boston born and bred and he’s always been pretty clear about what he’s looking for in a woman/girlfriend/wife: he wants a Boston girl. A Boston girl with some junk in the trunk. Back in 2012, he told Playboy that he likes “strange things” and “I like a good ass… I can say that? I like a big ass.” So, his obsession with ladies having some junk in the trunk has been documented over the years. Chris went on Anna Faris’ podcast this week and she got him to talk more about how he’s an ass man, whether he’s ever sent a dick pic and whether he likes it when girls text him right away. Chris Evans is a man that knows exactly what he likes. The actor stopped by Anna Faris’ podcast titled Anna Faris Is Unqualified, alongside comedienne Jenny Slate, when things took risqué turn and got candid very quickly. Anna asked Chris whether he’s more interested in T or A, and if he’s into being sent nude photos from ladies he’s romantically involved with. “I’m way more of an ass man, clearly,” he said while laughing on the program. “I like butts. I guess [I like] butt pics.” He also joked that while some may regret sending naked photos (security reasons aside), “nobody sends a bad dick pic…There’s always like a full photo shoot, like a four-hour photo shoot with filters,” he added without confirming (or denying, really) that he was speaking from experience. Anna chimed in by noting that she and hubby Chris Pratt used to send lovey dovey shots to one another, but “we try to be careful now about what we send each other.” Then, Anna quizzed Chris on his pickup game—take note, everyone. “Let’s say you meet a super hot girl at a bar. You feel like a nice connection with her and she’s really hot,” Anna began. “Would you give her your own number or your assistant’s [number]?” “I would probably ask for hers,” he answers. Nicely done, Chris. But he adds that too much communicating right out of the gate can be a bad thing. “Let’s say we met at 10, and I left the bar at 11 and I sent her a text at 11:30 saying, ‘Hey, it was great to meet you.’ And she responds, ‘Yeah, you too.’ And at 3 a.m. there’s another text [from her], right away it’s a little bit of a bummer.” [From E! News] So if you are a lady with some junk in the trunk and a Boston accent, and Chris Evans gets your digits, don’t text him back right away. Even if he’s sending you airbrushed dick pics and texting you just minutes after you’ve met. Do not text him right away. He likes “the hunt.” He likes mystery. He likes to be kept waiting. Just FYI. Kesha’s appeal dismissed: ‘Every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime’

Back in February, Kesha’s lawsuit/injunction against Dr. Luke was thrown out. The lawsuit was about Kesha’s right to break her contract with her alleged abuser, and how she wanted to record music away from Dr. Luke entirely. The judge threw out the case because the judge believed in upholding the contract, for whatever reason. It seemed like the judge was so Pollyanna to believe that everything operates in the music industry with perfect, profit-driven capitalism and no one ever has a personal or non-financial motive for any of their actions, but it may have been a legal judgment. Kesha and her lawyers filed an immediate appeal and her lawyers seemed to overreach a bit by comparing Kesha’s situation to “slavery.” Well, the same judge has just thrown out Kesha’s appeal, meaning Kesha is still contractually tied to Dr. Luke. Kesha was delivered a huge blow Wednesday by a New York judge who dismissed nearly all of the singer’s counterclaims in her ongoing lawsuit against Dr. Luke. The star previously accused the producer of drugging, raping and abusing her during her career. The hitmaker, in turn, has vehemently denied the allegations and countersued for breach of contract and defamation. The singer has been adamant about being released from her contracts with Luke because, she wrote in February, “This is about being free from my abuser.” On Wednesday, New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich cited lack of jurisdiction and failure to procure facts proving the allegations when tossing out the majority of Kesha’s counter claims. The pop star’s claims invoking human rights laws were dismissed – alleging the plaintiffs “discriminated against [her] based on her gender” – were dismissed because “Kesha failed to plead that any of the alleged discrimination occurred in New York State or City … the court has no jurisdiction over” the claims, the judge wrote. As for the civil rights, or “hate crime,” laws, the singer had to prove Dr. Luke “harbored animus towards women or was motivated by gender animus when he allegedly behaved violently toward Kesha,” the judge stated in court documents obtained by PEOPLE. “Every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime.” According to Justice Kornreich, the only allegations Kesha made that meets the elements of “physical violence or property damage” were claims that Luke assaulted her on an airplane and raped her in his hotel room. But “the claim is time-barred,” writes Kornreich. The singer’s claim of “intentional infliction of emotional distress” was also dismissed because the judge believes her allegations “do not meet the strict pleading standard. Her claims of insults about her value as an artist, her looks, and her weight are insufficient to constitute extreme, outrageous conduct intolerable in civilized society,” Kornreich wrote, adding the instances that would constitute as intentional were “time-barred.” Aside from throwing out her claims, the judge also denied Kesha’s request to make amendments. “Kesha’s request for leave to amend the CCs is denied because there is nothing in the record from which the court can determine whether the amendment would be meritorious,” state the papers. [From People] Ever since I read about this ruling last night, I’ve been thinking about the judge’s words: “Every rape is not a gender-motivated hate crime.” True or false? Is every rapist a misogynist? Is every rape a hate crime? It’s not just a linguistic argument, it’s a legal argument and one that I would like to see more of. I have long believed that we should consider mass shooters to be “terrorists” regardless of race. Can we not say serial abusers of women are hate-crime assailants or misogynistic terrorists too? Anyway, Kesha’s still got legal options. In Touch: Drew Barrymore & Will have been separated for a year

Then of course they announced last Friday that they were formally splitting and planned to divorce soon. In Touch now claims that Drew is the one who decided to separate after she had a personal revelation during her 40th birthday vacation that she was unhappy in her marriage. This is consistent with everything we’ve heard in major celebrity outlets, and it’s not surprising that there’s a specific moment when Drew decided to leave. That seems so much like her. In Touch magazine, on newsstands tomorrow, is reporting that a turning point for Drew came in February 2015, when she turned 40. She took a trip to Hawaii and realized how unhappy she was. “Inside, she was crying,” a family insider tells In Touch. “She felt like she wasn’t in control of her life anymore.” Things got worse quickly. “Drew began contacting her attorneys in the fall of 2015,” the family insider adds. “She tried to keep it together for as long as she could, but their relationship was broken beyond repair.” “Part of the problem is that Drew and Will are total opposites. He’s very organized and used to keeping a schedule, and Drew’s flighty, always late and is truly a wild child at heart,” the family insider tells In Touch. “Because she came from a broken family, Drew tried so hard to play the devoted wife role. She desperately wanted that sense of family and stability, and for a while she thought she found that in Will.” But in 2014, she returned to the big screen with the Adam Sandler dud Blended. “At that point, she wanted to ramp up her career again and Will didn’t want her to,” says the family insider. “They fought bitterly about it.” Adds a source close to Drew, “There was no infidelity, nothing dramatic like that. This has been going on for a long time. They’ve been working on their issues. In the end, they feel like, ‘This is a bummer. We tried.’” The couple remains on good terms. “They are still living together,” says the source close to Drew. “They have places in NYC and in LA. Both are in LA right now, living in the same house.” [From In Touch] That sounds about right, and we’ve heard it several times now – Drew was unhappy, she did some soul searching, they tried for a while and ultimately ended it. It’s sad but it happens to so many couples. They seem to be putting their kids first and focusing on what matters. E! also has an insider story about Drew, and it reinforces the narratives in US Magazine and People this week. Their insider says that “This was a slow burn. It was not a decision that they came to over night. They worked on things for a long time and have had time to adjust.” As I mentioned yesterday, this sounds so much like all the stories around the Garner-Affleck split and I don’t think that’s a coincidence. Drew’s longterm friend, Cameron Diaz, was on Andy Cohen’s XM show promoting her new book recently. Andy asked her if she’d reached out to Drew after hearing about her split and she responded in general terms, but it sounds like she has. She said “Everybody pulls the wagons around, you know, our friends, whoever needs us in whatever point in time. Even if it’s something that the public doesn’t know about. Internally we’re all going, like, ‘OK, who needs us now?’ And that really is, I think, a major part of the connectivity we need. We need to keep those things connected.” So it sounds like Cameron has known for some time that Drew is having relationship trouble. Drew just talked about Cameron in her Marie Claire interview so I don’t doubt that Cameron has been helping her. Plus she recently Instagrammed this: I am so proud of my dearest girlfriend. Kailyn Lowry & Javi Marroquin Fight Over Racy Photo, Unfollow Each Other on Twitter

After months of rumors that Javi Marroquin’s deployment has been putting their marriage to the test, Kailyn Lowry may have just kicked her husband to the curb in very public fashion. Javi has been overseas with the U.S. Air Force for the past three months, and photos of Marroquin with a mystery woman surfaced online shortly after he left, leading to reports that he and Kailyn had called it quits. At the time, sources close to the couple insisted they were still together, but now a different photo (and a different woman) may have caused Kailyn to pull the plug on her marriage of three years. In a truly bizarre twist, Marroquin seems to have ratted on himself by admitting on Twitter that he recently sent racy photos to a female friend. “The snap I just sent @Kimberlyyy_Rene #onmycalvinkleinshhh,” Marroquin tweeted, implying that he was in his underwear in the pic. Asked how she feels about the strange confession, Kailyn tweeted, “Borderline inappropriate but it is what it is.” She deleted the tweet moments later. Marroquin tagged Lowry in a tweet that read simply, “Don’t,” but he also deleted it. When a fan assured Marroquin that Lowry loves and misses him, the 23-year-old replined, “Haha too late.” At some point in the last 24 hours, both Kailyn and Javi stopped following each other on Twitter and Instagram. A rep for the couple recently issued a statement assuring fans that the couple is “not legally separated.” Not exactly encouraging words. Ariel Winter is gaining quite the following on Instagram these days, but we’re guessing her newfound popularity doesn’t have a whole lot to do with her acting skills… That’s a photo Ariel posted yesterday, and as you might’ve guessed, most of the comments are about two things. Yes, obviously we’re talking about the margaritas.  Ariel captioned the pic, “Legal frozen margarita with the sister.” She’s only 18 but she’s in Paris at the moment, so there’s no need to obsess over this photo, everyone! We kid, of course. The real reason this pic has racked up 56,000 likes is Ariel’s boobs. In the wake of her breast reduction surgery, the Modern Family star has been favoring a much more cleavagey look, and the Internet has responded the way it always responds to breasts. This one hasn’t gone as viral as the photo of Ariel in a low-cut dress on Easter Sunday, but don’t worry – the comments section is still filled with grown-ups having serious discussions about an 18-year-old girl’s boobs. Hey, if you’re a celebrity, creepy attention is better than no attention. Even if your show is a hit, it can be tough to make the jump from actress on an ensemble sitcom to household name.
