Farrah Abraham: Sophia’s Opening Her Own Fashion Boutique!

Sophia Abraham is one business-savvy seven-year-old. While her mom Farrah Abraham makes a business of pissing people off at every turn, the little girl is getting ready to open up her own fashion boutique. “What I’m most proud of is Sophia is really into fashion,” Farrah told People magazine. “She’s opening up her own Sophia Laurent boutique store in Austin, Texas,” the Teen Mom OG star announced. “She’s mentioned in New York Fashion Week. She’s in children model magazines.”  “I’m so proud of Sophia and that doesn’t even really impact her real life. She’s just been so successful on her own so that’s just awesome to me.” Mama bear makes it sound as though Sophia is doing all this on her own, and that Farrah’s not pulling the strings at all. We’re trying to envision Sophia in a power suit negotiating with venture capitalists, but it kinda sounds like a poorly scripted Nickelodeon show. In February, Farrah took her daughter to New York Fashion Week. Sophia looked adorable but some fans criticized her mom for allowing her to wear makeup at such a young age. “This is Sophia’s first Fashion Week,” Farrah Abraham told Us Weekly. Due to a late flight, the tot was unable to walk in the Bound by the Crown fashion show, but she was able to score a front row seat and wear an outfit designed by Game of Crowns star Susanna Paliotta. We wish Sophia the best of luck in her new venture. View Slideshow: “Momager” Farrah Abraham Parades Sophia Around Fashion Week

Prince William & Kate did their final tour photo-op in front of the Taj Mahal

Embed from Getty Images We’re finally at the end of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s exhaustive India-Bhutan royal tour. The tour did not go off without a hitch, although I have to say… it felt like Will and Kate kept up a tighter, busier schedule than they have for previous tours. They saved “the best for last,” meaning they saved the biggest photo-op for their very last day. They flew out of Bhutan early this morning and went back to India for the Taj Mahal photo-op. Several months ago, I wouldn’t have said this photo-op was any big deal – after all, most tourists moving through India try to see the Taj Mahal. But Will and Kate made such a big deal about Princess Diana’s connection to the Taj and how they were going there to “create new memories,” so it became a big deal, likely the biggest part of their tour. Apparently it was 109 degrees Fahrenheit (aka hot as balls) in Agra today and both Will and Kate were sweating a bit, as we all would be. Still, Kate chose not to pull her hair up, because of course she didn’t. Kate also chose to wear a Indian-American designer, Naeem Khan. This dress has a STRAIGHT SKIRT, people! We’re on high alert! Kate realized that she couldn’t flash everyone at the Taj Mahal, so she consciously chose a straight skirt, not some light, un-weighted full skirt. Princess Diana also wore a straight-ish wrap skirt when she went to the Taj Mahal (alone). But… Kate didn’t attempt a redo/homage of Diana’s look, thankfully. Diana paired purple with red and white. Kate did blue and white. You’ll also notice that the scaffolding still appears on the Taj Mahal, so the Cambridges didn’t get their way in asking for the scaffolding to be taken down for their photo-op. PS… I missed a few outfits in Bhutan, but over the next few days, I’ll be doing some wrap-up stories on the tour and some of the minor controversies, so we’ll have those fashion pics in the coming days, don’t worry! Duchess Kate wears decade-old boots, skinny jeans for Bhutan hike: cute?

Embed from Getty Images It’s been said before, but it’s worth repeating: the Duchess of Cambridge is at her best when she gets to do something athletic. When the photo-op involves running, hiking or being sporty, she does well. So these photos are totally fine with me – William and Kate took a three-hour hike today in Bhutan. It was an uphill climb/hike to the Tiger’s Nest monastery built into a clifftop. It’s one of the biggest tourist sites in Bhutan, which brings me to another point that a lot of the royal reporters have been making… just like Will and Kate’s Australia/New Zealand tour two years ago, this tour has seemingly involved a lot of tourist activities, almost like this is a government-sponsored vacation. Of course Will and Kate wanted to see the Tiger’s Nest and of course they enjoyed themselves. But don’t call it a royal tour, you know? Call it what it is: a vacation. For the hours-long hike, Kate chose a decent ensemble. Meaning, at least she didn’t attempt a lengthy hike in wedges or heels. She actually pulled out some brown Penelope Chilvers boots which she’s had in her closet for more than a decade. Kate was actually wearing these boots in one of her most famous college-era photos (go here to see). The boots cost £475. She paired her old boots with skinny jeans (that likely have some stretch), a simple white blouse and the £495 Nubuck vest/waistcoat. I don’t understand why a three-hour hike wouldn’t have been a perfect moment for a ponytail, but then again, I’m not a duchess. Apparently, as they were hiking, Kate joked that they were “burning off the curry.” The Daily Mail also points out that William was working up a sweat but that Kate is so sporty that she was breezing through the hike. I love that the @KensingtonRoyal Twitter manager posted the butt shot like that was the big take-away image from the hike. Sarah Palin: ‘Bill Nye is as much as scientist as I am… he’s not a scientist’

Sarah Palin attended a Washington, DC premiere for the film (“film”) Climate Hustle this week. Climate Hustle, if you do not know, is a right-wing propaganda “documentary” about how climate change isn’t real and it’s all just a massive conspiracy by Hollywood liberals and fake scientists (and the filmmakers trot out a few fake scientists of their own). Over the past few years, Bill Nye has become one of the regular commentators on how climate change is hella real, and he often makes amazingly efficient arguments to prove his point. Clips of Nye’s interviews appear in Climate Hustle, but as you imagine, the propagandists “disprove” whatever he’s saying. Still, Bill Nye’s scientific qualifications are no match for a cut-and-run ex-governor and malfunctioning fembot, you betcha. At the premiere, Palin told the crowd: “Bill Nye is as much as scientist as I am. He’s a kids’ show actor; he’s not a scientist,” Palin pointed out, before accusing Nye of using his position of authority to harm children by teaching them that climate change is real and man-made. Palin insisted that parents not allow their children to be indoctrinated by fact-based scientific research, urging them to “ask those questions and not just believe what Bill Nye the Science Guy is trying to tell” them. [From Salon] Here are some facts… Bill Nye graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in mechanical engineering from Cornell in 1977. He worked at Boeing where he developed a hydraulic pressure resonance suppressor. He helped develop the sundial for the Mars Rover expedition. He has held the position of vice president and executive director of The Planetary Society. He holds several patents. I got all of this information from browsing his Wiki page for a few minutes. He IS a scientist and an engineer. And he makes science, math, astronomy and engineering relatable and exciting to kids. And he advocates for good science, for science free of political agenda. All of that can coexist in one person. Just like dangerous stupidity and a basic lack of decency can coexist in Sarah Palin. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Bethenny Frankel: Minority companies should hire white spokesmen (Update)

Embed from Getty Images To be fair to a woman who has established that she’s a racist a-hole, we are relying on secondhand accounts of a talk which Bethenny Frankel gave to a room of women business owners, at a conference called Project Entrepreneur. Jezebel compiled the responses to Bethenny’s speech and several attendees were outraged. Bethenny allegedly (again this is secondhand as there is no video) told minority women that they should hire white male spokespeople for their businesses. Several attendees tweeted about this. Bethenny also reportedly suggested using sex for business purposes. When two women of color got up during the Q&A session to tell Bethenny how wrong she was, they were shut down. An entrepreneur named Mary Pryor blogged about her experience trying to question Bethenny about her offensive speech: I was one of the women who tried to stand up to reality TV star and Skinny Girl Vodka founder, Bethenny Frankel, at a women’s entrepreneurial summit over the weekend. And was silenced. As a participant in Rent The Runway’s and UBS’s Project Entrepreneur, a new initiative to equip women founders with the tools and advice they need to thrive in the marketplace, I was stunned when Frankel implied that women should have sex with men in exchange for capital. I was offended when she expressed some kind of kinship with black women because she’s “loud.” And I was taken aback when she advised those of us in the room to get business advice to hire a white man as the face of our companies. The session was not recorded, but it caused a firestorm both in New York City, where the event took place, and on social media. Another female founder of color, Naomi Hirabayashi of Shine Text, was just as disturbed given this response. Many of the women of color in the audience turned their heads in shock. Some took to the mic, prepared to address the inflammatory remarks. While Frankel’s flawed advice comes with unfortunate truths regarding access to funding- white men do get the lion’s share of venture capital funding while black women founders don’t seem to even register on the radar. This phenomenon was most recently covered in Digital Undivided’s #ProjectDiane report; it’s clear tech has a long way to go when it comes to supporting black women founders. Armed with this knowledge, I weighed the pros and cons of responding to Frankel after I saw eye rolling, dismissive stares, and “Here she goes!” reactions from other women in the room but. Something needed to be said. Not even when the wrong-headedness was called to her attention, Frankel didn’t back down. Nothing. No apology. No acknowledgement of an ignorant reply. Just a comment from a moderator about “breaking up a fight” and removing the mic from our hands. Naomi and I stood there shaking our heads. We stood up to defend female founders of color. She stood up as an ally aware of bias and ignorance in tech. We came together respectfully and left disappointed. [From The Huffington Post via Jezebel] Project Entrepreneur has since apologized while Bethenny has tweeted some nonsense about color not mattering. You know that means she said all these obnoxious things. I don't care if ur woman, man, black, white, hispanic, green or purple. In biz & life be better than everyone else.Don't complain.Don't explain. — Bethenny Frankel (@Bethenny) April 13, 2016 Here are some tweets about this speech: (4) For @Bethenny to insist that a young, Black female founder "Find a white guy" to rep her biz is a racial microaggression #PEIntensive16 — Mary Pryor (@msmarypryor) April 11, 2016 To the brave black woman who asked what to do when ppl tell her to get a white man as the face of her org,Im so sorry for @Bethenny's answer — Marah Lidey (@marahml) April 9, 2016 Convo w/ @bethenny: should u do whatever it takes 2 succeed like hiring a white male spokesperson as a minority entrepreneur? #PEIntensive16 — Ellen Choi (@LNchoi) April 9, 2016 1.Hi @msmarypryor TY for standing up+speaking your mind. The fact that you felt shut down is completely contrary to the goals of the weekend — Project Entrepreneur (@pjtentrepreneur) April 11, 2016 We apologize to you and our guests. — Project Entrepreneur (@pjtentrepreneur) April 11, 2016 Project Entrepreneur went one further and tweeted that Bethenny was wrong, essentially and that “We believe that every founder is enough on her own. We disagree with any sentiments to the contrary.” I hope this means that businesses and organizations will think twice before giving Bethenny a platform, but then I see the orange idiot who’s running for president and realize that there are a lot of racists who are being given platforms lately. Update: Bethenny has denied saying this despite the many eyewitness accounts and she has gone on to block several people on Twitter insisting she said it. Gwyneth Paltrow: Dill is for peasants, ‘it’s not really a food, it offends me’

Gwyneth Paltrow is still doing the promotional rounds to support It’s All Easy, her latest tedious and elitist cookbook. And as we’ve already covered, the promotion is Classic Goop, full of amazing throw-away judgments on food, cooking and how the peasants live and eat. Apparently, Gwyneth has a hate-on for dill. DILL. Of all things. Hating dill is like hating mustard: pointless. Gwyneth thinks dill is offensive. She also thinks microwaves are the devil, which we already learned this week. Her least favorite food: “I really don’t like dill. It’s not really a food, but it really offends me.” No microwaves: “I believe in old fashioned ways of heating things up. It’s really not so tough to put an oven on or gasoline steaming. It’s like five minutes.” No pre-made salads: “My philosophy is, it’s really easy to make your own salad at home. It’s cheaper, it’s healthier, you know what’s in it. I’ve had some great experiences with the grab-and-go salad, and some really, really terrible ones.” Getting her kids to eat healthier: “I really find if I put out lots of dipping sauces, or lettuce cups, or they’re filling things themselves or making tacos, they’re more involved. …They’ll eat more vegetables. My kids are pretty good at home. I try to keep the pantry pretty clean, but when we’re out in the world, it’s all Oreos and Cheez-Its and stuff like that, unfortunately.” [From ET] CHEEZ-ITS! I’ll admit, Cheez-Its and Oreos are not for me… usually. But then again, I have like five bags of discounted Easter candy in my house because I’m obsessed with chocolate-and-peanut-butter eggs. We all have our little food quirks, is my point. Gwyneth’s “dill is not really a food” quirk reminds me of one of my dad’s food quirks – my dad was always insistent that bacon was not a meal. One of his favorite food-related sayings was “bacon is a condiment.” As in, bacon should never be used as a stand-alone meal, but merely an accessory to a meal. Meanwhile, Gwyneth was asked again about her old quote about “I’d rather smoke crack than eat cheese from a can.” When asked if she still feels that way, Goop said: “Hell yes. You know, crack might be extreme, but spray cheese is not my kind of party.” Then this perfect tweet happened: Gwenyth Paltrow is affluenza's Patient Zero. https://t.co/zdtrzM8cYs — Samantha Bunten (@samanthabunten) April 12, 2016 Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.

Jennifer Lopez: Dancers are better in bed, ‘musicians are too self-absorbed’

Jennifer Lopez’s W Magazine profile just gave me the perfect term for why I love her so much: she is “the people’s diva.” Like, the people’s princess, only in multi-hyphenate diva form. Anyway, I sort of hate Jennifer’s W Magazine editorial – you can see the slideshow here. It’s sort of awful, and they made Jennifer wear a terrible blonde mullet wig in half the pics. As for the interview, it’s longer than most W Mag profiles. It reads like a day-in-the-life piece, and Jennifer is really, really busy. You can read the full piece here, and here are some highlights: The people’s diva: “I’ve been in the grind and the game for a long time. At a certain point, people respect you when they see you fall down and get back up. The more you’re in this life, the more they celebrate your triumphs. When it comes to work, I never get tired. But with personal failures, I have thought, This is too hard. When my marriage ended, it was not easy to find forgiveness. It wasn’t the dream that I had hoped for, and it would have been easier to fan the flames of resentment, disappointment, and anger. But Marc is the father of my children [8-year-old twins], and that’s never going away. So, I have to work to make things right. And that is, by far, the hardest work I do.” She’s fine-boned: “When I first came to Los Angeles, someone told me I would be a star because of my tiny ankles and wrists. They said that was the key to it all.” She’s constantly being swarmed by fans: “It’s been like that since Selena. I never thought about fame until then. After that film, I would have panic attacks. I remember walking down the street, and someone yelled, ‘Jennifer!’ and I didn’t know who it was. I ran home. From that point forward, I realized I couldn’t be alone in public. I don’t think I’ve been alone on the street in over 20 years.” Who is better in bed: “Last time I was here, they asked me who is better in bed—dancers, musicians, or actors? I said, ‘Dancers!’ Musicians are too self-absorbed. They are too concerned with themselves to be great in bed.” On Marc Anthony: “I hung in there for seven years. I knew very quickly that it wasn’t the right thing.” On Casper Smart: “We got together and broke up and are now together again. I still think about getting married and having that long life with someone. I love the movie The Notebook. A dream of mine is to grow old with someone.” On being more accessible after her stint on American Idol: “It has been easier. People may now think I’m ‘nice,’ but they still act surprised when I’m smart. It’s a man’s world, and, truly, people in a business setting do not value a woman as much as a man. I feel like I’m constantly having to prove myself. If a man does one thing well, people immediately say he’s a genius. Women have to do something remarkable over and over and over. And, even then, they get questions about their love life. People underestimate me. They always have, and maybe that’s for the best. It’s fun to prove them wrong.” [From W Magazine] I do think J.Lo is smart… in almost every area of her life. She’s dumb in love, but smart everywhere else. And she’s right about people undervaluing her simply because she’s a woman, just as she’s right about constantly being underestimated. I love the bit about her thin ankles and wrists, I love the shade she has for Marc Anthony and I’m absolutely astonished that she hasn’t been alone in public in 20 years. She’s also wrong about dancers being the best lovers – swimmers are obviously the best lovers! Meanwhile, there’s one thing I’d like to mention – last week, there was a controversy about J.Lo’s new single, “Ain’t Your Mama.” The song is awful, full-stop. But it was written by Meghan Trainor, and there were widespread reports that the track had been “produced” by Dr. Luke. Jennifer got a lot of online hate and shade for that. But E! News reported that Trainor had written the song several years back and her version was produced by Dr. Luke back then, before Kesha’s lawsuit. Then Trainor gave the song to J.Lo and J.Lo didn’t know Dr. Luke had ever had his fingerprints on it. Trainor confirmed that version of events this week, calling the backlash against Jennifer “ridiculous” and “not fair on her, not at all.” Photos courtesy of W Magazine.
