Pres. Obama’s final WH Correspondents Dinner: hilarious or bittersweet?

Embed from Getty Images President Barack Obama attended his final White House Correspondents Dinner last night, and as is usually the case, he was much funnier than the comedian guest. I enjoyed last year’s comedian, SNL’s Cecily Strong, but I could see how Larry Wilmore would be a good choice for Obama’s final WHCD. While Wilmore had some strong jokes – the childlike glee of the “Zodiac Killer” line was genuinely a favorite – Wilmore’s reception was pretty mixed and he misread the room at times. We’ll have more coverage and photos from the event tomorrow, I just wanted to post the speeches today. As for Obama, he just had so many great one-liners about Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz, Michelle, his presidency and more. Around the 24-minute mark of this video is the special video the White House made called “Couch Commander” about what he’s going to do in DC post-presidency. Yeah… I’m going to miss Obama so much when he leaves office. No matter who wins the presidency, I’m really just going to miss him. We had a “cool” president, a funny president, but even more than that: we had a smart, compassionate, even-tempered president. And here’s Larry Wilmore’s bit. He made a lot of “black jokes” and he even used the n-word at the end of his speech. It made me uncomfortable, but Obama rolled with it. Diane Kruger slams ‘drunk’ Peter O’Toole: ‘He wasn’t the most pleasant person’

Embed from Getty Images Remember the movie Troy? Brad Pitt starred as Achilles, Orlando Bloom was Paris, Eric Bana was Hector (ROWR), Peter O’Toole was Priam and Diane Kruger was Helen of Troy. It actually did have a great cast and it did well at the box office, but the film was not all that great. Apparently, it wasn’t a great experience for Diane Kruger either. Diane and Norman Reedus interviewed each other for Buzzfeed to promote their new movie, and Diane ended up throwing some major shade on the late Peter O’Toole. Keep in mind… O’Toole was 71 years old around the time that they were filming Troy, and he had been a life-long hellraiser and drunk. And Kruger was somewhat surprised to find him drunk and exhausted. Diane on her worst costar: “You know who wasn’t very pleasant, was Peter O’Toole…It kind of sucked. He’s dead, so I can say that. But he wasn’t the most pleasant person. He was just a drunk, and Peter O’Toole. You know, he had a two-day part, and I played Helen of Troy and he was Peter O’Toole, and he just wanted to make sure that everybody knew that he was Peter O’Toole. And he could barely make it up the stairs. We were on a set that was – you know, you have to climb, like, I don’t know, 100 steps to go up. He was just – first of all, everybody thought he was gonna die right there and then. Because it was, you know, 120 degrees, and he had to walk up 100 stairs. And he was very old, and very drunk.” Reedus on her story: “It’s kind of like the story of Elvis on the toilet with a peanut butter sandwich, like, I don’t wanna hear it.” Diane: “You just asked me!…He was great. You would’ve loved him! You guys would’ve, like, been drinking together and it would’ve been great.” [From The Daily Mail] I think less of Kruger for talking this way about A) someone who is dead and B) an acting legend. First of all, when someone dies, that’s not when you should slam them! O’Toole was a notorious drunk/alcoholic, as he discussed at length in his memoirs and interviews. My guess is that he didn’t really take the Troy gig seriously (very few people did, judging from the acting) and decided to just phone it in, half-drunk. Was it unprofessional? Sure. But still, I feel like complaining about it after the man is dead is sort of uncool too. O’Toole was acting poorly on a two-day job, in 120-degree heat, while half-in-the-bag. Iggy Azalea thinks she’s a victim of racism because she’s been called ‘Becky’

We are about to reach Peak Irony with Iggy Azalea, and I can’t help it… I am giggling the entire way through this. First, let’s do some backstory. When Beyonce dropped the lyric “you better call Becky with the good hair” on Saturday night during HBO’s Lemonade, the internet exploded. Most people understood the reference as I understood it: Beyonce was telling her husband to call one of his white side chicks. “Becky with the Good Hair” was, to me, simply a reference to a bland, basic white woman, or perhaps just a non-black woman. As it turns out, some people believe that “Becky” is slang with a more specific meaning, something about blow jays. Perhaps some people combine the two meanings to mean a white woman giving oral sex. Which brings me to Iggy Azalea. On Monday night, she was just sitting on Twitter, interacting with her fans, as one does. One of her “fans” called her a racist and that’s when Iggy sort of had a meltdown, because… she’s been the victim of racism too. Because people have called her Becky. First, she responded by tweeting: “girl BYE. do you know how many time ppl have called me BECKY? it didnt have any kind of positive intention behind it. dont start. generalizing ANY race by calling them one sterotypical name for said race. i personally dont think is very cool, the end.” To which she got some replies: @FameKillz_ the point is: no one likes to be called out their name or generalized. the end. — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) April 25, 2016 @rNicaRo I love you too, but something doesnt have to be in order for me to be uncomfortable with it. — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) April 26, 2016 Do you see the argument she’s making? She’s been a victim of racism too, people. She’s been maligned racially because people called her Becky. Iggy continued by tweeting other replies to other people, writing: “Those are my feelings about it because of the way the name has been directed towards me in real life…other people might not mind and that’s fine too, but i personally want to be called by my own name. don’t stress it…its clearly not okay for me to call any other race a generalized name (i agree)…but at the same time, you know its intention is “white” thats why you called me that… to be called a generalized name that gained popularity as a way to describe oral sex and then generally white women. no thanks. [From Iggy’s Twitter] So now outlets are running headlines like “Iggy Azalea slams Beyonce for racism!” And “Iggy Azalea says ‘Becky’ is racist!” I will say that if Iggy doesn’t want to be referred to as a Becky, she should not be. But I’ll also say that I think this might be a case of textbook white fragility, in that Iggy Azalea is a culturally appropriating, racially insensitive white Australian who honestly thinks she too is a victim of racism. Jennifer Aniston throws shade on Manic Panic: ‘Pink & green hair could go away’

Jennifer Aniston gave yet another interview about economic policy, Brexit, international relations and the strength of Euro. Just kidding! She gave an interview about her hair. Aniston is currently promoting Mother’s Day, although you wouldn’t know it from this interview because she’s just shilling (endlessly) for Living Proof, the haircare company she partially owns. There is, I believe, a lot of junky non-science in here. Like, Aniston is about two seconds away from suggesting that women rub healing crystals on their split ends. Some highlights: Her new favorite haircare product: “The newest, coolest thing I’ve discovered from Living Proof and its scientific world is the Timeless Treatment. It’s a hair color protector. It goes on and looks like a cream conditioner, but you put it onto your hair from the roots down to the tip. You let it sit for five minutes and then shower and shampoo, which activates the product to seal and protect the color. Then you condition. The concept allows you to keep the richness of your color longer. It’s kind of amazing.” Don’t wash your hair with hot water: “Hot water is never good for your hair or skin, so I wash in warm water. It also depends on what day it is. If I’m working then I usually do wash it, because it has to have continuity, but if I’m not working I try to give my hair a break for as many days as possible. After the gym, if I have to be somewhere, I usually just throw some heat on it to dry the sweat and then do a little dry shampoo and a little Night Cap, and I’m fresh as a daisy. I can last a good three or four days without washing my hair, and all of this stuff just kind of keeps it fresh and alive and smelling great.” Her workout hairstyle: “I just wrap it up into whatever rubber band or clip I can find and it usually gets thrown on top of my head.” Her favorite hair trends: “I love a cut from afar, but I’m pretty classic and like to stick to what feels good for me. I don’t usually follow hair trends. I wish I could, but I always feel like I’m trying to be something I’m not. I love seeing these ’70s shags, though. They’re all super cute! And I always love a good highlighted head of hair.” Her least favorite hair trends: “Pink and green hair could go away. I don’t understand that to be honest, especially the green! Her hairstylist’s best advice: “His big advice is the less you mess with your hair, the better. Less is more, don’t touch it, don’t wash it every day, and just let it be. That way, it saves up your hair’s energy for when you have to go to work and be on camera and put it under the hot lights and driers and rollers. It’s really just about doing less and using good products to maintain its health.” [From Glamour] While some of this makes sense – and I’ve heard variations on it before – some of it just seems like someone who thinks way too much about her hair, to the point where she’s sort of talking nonsense. “It saves up your hair’s energy” doesn’t mean anything. If you want to argue that you shouldn’t overprocess your hair, fine. But you’re not “saving up your hair’s energy.” And I’ll never understand people who can go four days without washing their hair – especially if you’re going to the gym every other day or more! – but then again, I have really fine, oily hair. Katherine Heigl: ‘I absolutely owe anyone an apology I unwittingly offended’

Kitty litter spokeswoman Katherine Heigl would like to explain why she shouldn’t have said all of the terrible things she’s said. Heigl appeared on Howard Stern’s show on Wednesday – perhaps to shill kitty litter? – and she and Stern ended up getting into EVERYTHING. It would involve about a million links, so perhaps it’s best to glance through our Heigl archives from the past, say, seven years. Or more. She’s been a pill for the better part of a decade and there are dozens of instances of her unpleasant attitude, diva behavior and general sourness. And what’s funny is that Howard Stern basically asked her about all of it. On criticizing Knocked Up after it made her a star: “That was dumb. I liked the movie a lot. I just didn’t like me. She was kind of like, she was so judgmental and kind of uptight and controlling and all these things and I really went with it while we were doing it, and a lot of it, Judd allows everyone to be very free and improvise and whatever and afterwards, I was like, ‘Why is that where I went with this? What an a–hole she is!’ It was, again, one of those situations, it was a huge opportunity for me. I was being interviewed for Vanity Fair. Like, I was on the cover of Vanity Fair, it was a huge big deal for me. And the journalist…just said, ‘You know a lot of women felt it was a little sexist’ so then I felt obligated to answer that and so I tried in my very sort of ungracious way to answer why I felt that it maybe was a little.” She admits she didn’t even call Judd Apatow to apologize: “I probably should’ve [called them]. But what I did was very, I did it publicly instead and kind of tried to say, look, this was not what I meant and this was an incredible experience for me and they were incredibly good to me on this movie, so I did not mean to s–t on them at all. I’ve thought about like, writing a note. I feel embarrassed. I don’t want it to feel insincere on any level.” Why she announced that she was withdrawing her name from Emmy consideration in 2008: “I didn’t feel good about my performance. There was a part of me that thought, because I had won the year before, that I needed juicy, dramatic, emotional material and I just didn’t have that that season… I went in [to speak to Shonda Rhimes] ’cause I was really embarrassed. So I went in to Shonda and said, ‘I’m so sorry. That wasn’t cool. I should not have said that’…I shouldn’t have said anything publicly but at the time, I didn’t think anybody would notice. I didn’t know that journalists would see who submitted and who didn’t. I just quietly didn’t submit and then it became a story and then I felt I was obligated to make my statement and ‘shut up, Katie.’” She owes apologies to a lot of people: “I absolutely owe anyone an apology I unwittingly offended or disrespected. I get it. It was an immature dumbass moment.” She started going to therapy: “I started going because of the scrutiny – and I was not handling it well. I was feeling completely like the biggest piece of s— on the bottom of your shoe. I was really struggling with it and how to not take it all really personally.” She found herself acting timidly on sets: “I was like, ‘This is nonsense. Stop it. Get some help and own your voice.’ “ [From E! News and People] Just my opinion: she’s still full of sh-t. You can hear the bullsh-t and lies and inadvertent truths dripping off these quotes. “…That I needed juicy, dramatic, emotional material and I just didn’t have that that season…” Meaning she still feels like she was fundamentally justified for throwing the writers under the bus. Meaning she still feels like her material was sub-par and it was her duty to say so publicly. And then: “I’ve thought about like, writing a note. I feel embarrassed. I don’t want it to feel insincere on any level.” Why would it be “insincere,” Heigl? Because you would just be apologizing with an eye-roll? Some years, I’m prepared for the wall-to-wall photos of millionaires pretending to be hippies. Some years, Coachella starts and I’m caught unawares. But every year, I’m mystified as to why the same people go every damn year. Weirdly, Taylor Swift is not one of those people. She dropped by Coachella on Day 1. Of course she had to post a photo of her newly ultra-bleached hair. So far, that’s the biggest news that’s come out of Coachella. So, enjoy these photos from the first weekend. This year’s Coachella might be perfectly encapsulated by these photos of Miranda Kerr and Evan Spiegel. Miranda is one of the most famous models in the world, and Spiegel is the billionaire founder of Snapchat. But they too can “hang” with the cool kids at Coachella. Spiegel’s even hiding his face, for reasons, dude. Paris Hilton, man. She’s there every year. Kendall Jenner looks like hippie Barbie. Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. You might think, “Hey, why in the world are Rande & Cindy there? Are they conducting a global search for a new pair of couple-friends after George abandoned them?” While that was my first thought, I think Cindy and Rande were just trying to be the “cool parents” who took their kids to Coachella. There are photos of Kaia Gerber floating around, and I feel confident that Cindy was at least acting as the adult supervision. Brooklyn Beckham is still getting a big “nope” from me. Maybe in a few years, he won’t annoy me so much. On a scale of 1-10, how annoying do you find Alessandra Ambrosio? She’s an 8.5 to me. Jared Leto, man. At least his hair looks okay here. Duchess Kate had a ‘Marilyn Moment’ in Wickstead at the war memorial

Embed from Getty Images I told you guys that this week was going to be full-time Celebwiglet, and here we are. The time difference is affecting when and how we get photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s royal tour of India and Bhutan, but these are photos from their second day in India. They wore the same thing as they quickly moved through several events, and while Will and Kate were criticized for bringing too many activities to them (as opposed to going out in the city), I have to say, they are getting out of their luxury-hotel-comfort-zone. For the day-activities, Kate chose to theme-dress in what seems like an almost militaristic-inspired Emilia Wickstead dress with a full skirt. While I think this could have been pretty, the things that bug me the most are the breast pockets. I’ve convinced myself that they’re not even real pockets, they were just added to give a certain look to the dress, and the design bugs me because… well, those faux-pockets just look like breast flaps. Oh, and the dress costs £1,700. Which is sort of ridiculous. As everyone predicted, Kate loathes adding weights to her hems, so of course her full, un-weighted skirt blew up several times during the day. It was particularly inappropriate considering they were making a somber visit to lay a wreath at the India Gate memorial to pay their respects to the 70,000 Indian soldiers who died in WWI.
