Ted Cruz refused to endorse Donald Trump on Day 3 of the RNC: funny?

Embed from Getty Images It’s really cute the way Kimye and Taylor Swift thought they were bringing the drama this week when all of the real insanity has been going down at the Republican National Convention. By all accounts, this year’s RNC has been a complete mess. Few of the big names in the GOP have come to Cleveland, the message keeps getting hijacked because everything is in shambles and the ratings are terrible. And last night’s prime-time line-up was particularly unhinged. Marco Rubio didn’t even come to Cleveland – he just sent a video, which is just what you’d expect from the least-working member of the Senate. The night should have been all about Mike Pence accepting the nomination for vice president, but they made the mistake of putting alleged Zodiac Killer Ted Cruz on around 10 pm, and of course it ended badly. The problem was that Ted Cruz, Donald Trump’s biggest challenger, got a major speaking slot, and Cruz still refused to endorse Trump. Here’s the whole speech: And here’s Cruz refusing to endorse Trump, and everyone booing him. Donald Trump arrived at the end of Cruz’s speech, and on Morning Joe this morning, they compared it to Wrestlemania. Watch the #RNC audience boo @tedcruz for not endorsing @realDonaldTrumphttps://t.co/3VzLWtH0zG — Business Insider (@businessinsider) July 21, 2016 It got so bad that Ted Cruz’s wife had to be escorted out of the RNC by security because audience members and delegates started threatening her. Trump-puppet Chris Christie decried Cruz as “awful” and “selfish.” .@ChrisChristie tells @DanaBashCNN that he thought @tedcruz’s speech was “awful” and “selfish.” #RNCinCLE https://t.co/yVnWqI3y7Y — Abigail Crutchfield (@ACrutchfield14) July 21, 2016 But as many pointed out, this was not a surprise. Trump Org. knew that Cruz would not be endorsing Trump, as they had access to his speech hours beforehand. The press knew too. And Trump let it happen anyway, possibly for political theater reasons, possibly because everyone knows that the best way to turn people against Ted Cruz is to let people see Ted Cruz speak. Wow, Ted Cruz got booed off the stage, didn't honor the pledge! I saw his speech two hours early but let him speak anyway. No big deal! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 21, 2016 So was this a power-move by Team Trump or Team Cruz? Or was this just another shambolic mess from the RNC? I don’t know. But sources now say that Cruz is definitely going to run again in 2020, even if Trump is president. Eugenie Bouchard: Taylor Swift ‘portrays herself as the victim a lot’

Canadian tennis pro Eugenie “Genie” Bouchard is seen by many as one of the future stars of the game. She’s got “the look” of a tennis star – she’s blonde, adorable and bouncy, and she gives off a puppy-ish energy that is definitely endearing. She’s currently ranked 40th in the world, but many expect her to really step up to the plate in the coming years. And like so many youngsters (Genie is just 22 years old), she’s very in tune to pop culture. I mean, so is Serena Williams, but Genie is still so young, she’ll talk on the record about celebrity gossip in the middle of her press conferences. Case in point: Genie was playing the Citi Open this week in DC, and at her press conference on Wednesday, she was asked about the ongoing Kimye-Taylor Swift controversy. Genie has previously professed her love of all things Taylor Swift, and has even met Swift backstage at one of Swift’s concerts last year. But Genie is tired of Swifty’s perpetual-victim shtick. Oh, Genie! I heart you. Start around the 5:55-minute mark. A tennis star with a HUGE backhand directed at Taylor Swift — says she’s sick of the singer always portraying herself as the victim … just like she’s doing in the Kanye West feud. The tennis star is 22-year-old Eugenie Bouchard — who’s a huge pop culture fan — and was asked about the Taylor vs. Kanye situation after she was knocked out of the Citi Open this week. “This is probably the hardest question all day,” she said. “I love Taylor Swift and I went to her concert and I love her songs and everything, but I feel like sometimes she portrays herself as the victim a lot and she did this time around, and that she said she wasn’t aware of that specific line. The B.I.T.C.H line. But she heard the other line about having sex so, I’m like really, what’s the huge difference? You approved the thing where Kanye said he’d have sex with you, but you didn’t hear the time he said b****? Come on. It’s all the same thing for me. I think she just way overreacted. I think she just tried to get attention by saying she didn’t approve of that. But it’s the celeb world, and it’s just entertaining. It entertains me when I’m on my own in D.C.” [From TMZ and News.com] Dear Taylor Swift: when your core audience – white women in their teens and 20s – turns on you, it’s time to pack it up and go silent for a few months. No more emails to TMZ. No more implicit racism to People Magazine. No more words. Just drop it, take some time off, get a massage, go for a run and regroup. I mean, half of the #Taymerica squad won’t even publicly defend her!! And now her high-profile fans are saying that Tay is just acting like a thirsty liar with the Poor Innocent Blonde Child act. Miranda Kerr finally got engaged to billionaire Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel

Well, well. It looks like all of those “sources” were right! Miranda Kerr is officially engaged to billionaire Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel. Miranda is 33, Evan is 26. The age difference is no big deal – we wouldn’t blink if the ages were reversed – except that Evan seems a lot younger. He seems like he’s still a frat bro in college. I’ve long suspected that Miranda is useful to Evan for that reason: she legitimizes him (somewhat) as an “adult,” as a player, as someone who should be taken seriously. As for what he brings to the table for Miranda… well…I mean, I can only guess. Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel is celebrating his engagement to Miranda Kerr, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal. The supermodel accepted the proposal from the 26-year-old tech superstar, who she has been dating for two years. ‘They are extremely happy,’ a spokesperson for the Snapchat CEO told DailyMail.com exclusively. Miranda started dating Stanford University graduate Evan in June 2015 after meeting at a fashion industry dinner. [From The Daily Mail] Reportedly, Evan was ready to propose months ago but they were just bickering about the prenup. I assume Miranda will have to sign a prenup at some point (if she hasn’t already), but I also suspect that she’s going to get knocked up in a hurry, don’t you? Miranda confirmed the news… on Instagram and Snapchat (although most people are just talking about the IG). She posted a photo of her ring (below), which is reportedly a 2.5 carat round diamond with two baguette diamonds. Us Weekly spoke to “jewelry expert Michael O’Connor” who says that ring probably cost something like $55,000. Which is a decent chunk of change for me, but Evan is a BILLIONAIRE. And the general rule is to spend two months’ salary. How does one calculate that when one is a billionaire? That O’Connor guy goes on and on about how the ring is understated and beautiful and “the couple decided on a timeless style that proves they ‘don’t need to try.’” Yes, that’s just what you want your ring to say: “He didn’t want to try.” I think it looks like He Went To Jared. I said yes!!! ❤️?❤️?❤️ A photo posted by Miranda (@mirandakerr) on Jul 20, 2016 at 8:39am PDT PS… These are still my favorite photos of the happy couple. The raw sexuality of these photos! Caitlyn Jenner: The GOP is our best hope at getting a ‘constitutional government’

We have to provide a safe environment for the generations ahead! Huge thank you to @americanunityfund and @m_hoov for inviting me to their #bigtentbrunch at #RNCinCLE. We need to keep having these conversations #trans #lgbt #republican A photo posted by Caitlyn Jenner (@caitlynjenner) on Jul 20, 2016 at 9:30am PDT Caitlyn Jenner attended events adjacent to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this week. She announced that she would be going to Cleveland ahead of time, almost as if she was hoping for a speaking slot at the RNC. Which isn’t going to happen on Mike Pence’s watch, you know. So Caitlyn just had to be RNC-adjacent at an American Unity Fund Q&A session, where she talked about her long-standing love of all things Republican, even though the GOP would much rather refer to her as Bruce and discriminate against every part of her life. Some assorted quotes from Cait’s Q&A session. Coming out as Republican: “It was easy to come out as trans. It was hard to come out as Republican.” She’s a Republican because her dad serves in the military: “And if my dad knew what was going on in this country when he fought so hard, I think he’d be very disappointed. Because of that, I feel like our best hope to get back to a constitutional government… is a Republican Party… I’m not giving up on this country. I’m not giving up on this constitution. I want jobs for everybody.” North Carolina’s bathroom laws: “I haven’t used a men’s room in a year and a half. I follow the rules. I never flush a feminine product down the toilet.” How she came out to her kids: “God said, ‘Let’s give this one the soul of a female and see how he does.’” Changing hearts & minds: “I think the Republican Party needs to understand. They need to know people who are trans.” What she wants to tell Trump: “I would tell Donald that there are people out there that have been marginalized for so many years… It’s about the next generation coming up. We have to provide a safe environment for them.” [From USA Today] I know Caitlyn is a Republican because of the way she talks about why she’s a Republican. It’s the same vague, illogical, superficial, uninformed way that many die-hard Trump voters talk about why they’re voting for Trump. Because “freedom” and “my dad was in the military” and “making America great” and “the Constitution or whatever” and “you know, like, freedom.” In what way was George W. Bush’s administration MORE of a “constitutional government” than Barack Obama’s administration? Do Republicans believe that no active-duty military personnel or veteran has voted Democrat, ever? Kate Hudson is casually dating Diplo, Katy Perry’s ex, but his rep denies it

Kate Hudson was seen leaving the Met Gala in May with Diplo (above), whom you might remember as Katy Perry’s ex and the guy who saw through Taylor Swift’s BS before it was as transparent as it is now. (After reviewing some stories about his beef with Taylor, he seems rather prescient about her.) Kaiser reminds me that Diplo is also a highly successful producer and DJ and that she would still hate bang him. So would Kate Hudson, apparently, because these two are said to have hooked up some time last week in Ibiza. Kate Hudson has found her boy of summer: Diplo. “They are dating,” a source reveals a source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. The actress and the DJ, both 37, who exited NYC’s Met Gala together in May, connected in mid-July near Ibiza, Spain, the insider says. She was vacationing with girlfriends; he had a day off after playing nearby at club Pacha. (His rep denies the romance.) She documented her travels and raved about her trip via Instagram. “What a blast,” the Marshall star posted July 18. “Til next time, Ibiza!” Before the getaway, she reunited with her ex fiancé, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, to celebrate their son Bingham’s fifth birthday by jetting to London July 9 to see the new Harry Potter play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. (The Glee alum also shares 12-year-old son Ryder with her ex-husband, Chris Robinson.) [From US Magazine] Good for her. It looks like a casual hookup and that seems like the type of relationship Kate prefers. Also she like musicians, her last thing was with Nick Jonas and of course she has son Bing with Muse’s Matt Bellamy and was married to The Black Crowes’s Chris Robinson. (To my friend J who insisted last week that DJs/producers are not musicians, you are WRONG. I didn’t tell you to your face but I will do so in this passive aggressive way now.) I would kind of love it if Kate and Diplo became a power couple and started a PR feud with Taylor and Tom. That’s not going to happen, but it would be like Gossip Christmas and Gossip New Year’s put together. Also, do you remember how Cher tweeted earlier this week that Kate Hudson’s clothing subscription service, Fabletics, seemed like a scam? Well Life & Style has a new story about how Kate is mad at her mom, Goldie Hawn, for buying clothing from a competitor. They quote a source who says that Goldie “recently went into Exhale, a spa in NYC, and bought loads of great Victoria Keen yoga pants and spawear.” Kate was said to be “furious… [she] obviously wants her mom to be wearing her Fabletics line.” Goldie has Instagrammed photos where she’s wearing Fabletics but she said Kate sent them to her. It’s not like Goldie is going to pay $50 a month to get sent clothing someone else picks for her, she wants to go in and buy it herself. photos credit: WENN and Pacific Coast News

Taylor Swift vs Kim Kardashian and Kanye West: Selena Gomez Weighs In!

Everyone has something to say about it, especially Taylor Swift’s best friend. Selena Gomez posted a few tweets in response to Kim Kardashian’s decision to release audio between Swift and Kanye West regarding “Famous” lyrics. “There are more important things to talk about…” she tweeted. “Why can’t people use their voice for something that fucking matters?” “Truth is last thing we need right now is [sic] hate, in any form,” she added. “This industry is so disappointing yet the most influential smh” According to the Daily Mirror, a fan asked Gomez why she wasn’t using the hashtag, #blacklivesmatter. “oh lol so that means if I hashtag something I save lives?” she responded. “No -I could give two f***s about ‘sides’. You don’t know what I do.” The audio reveals West running controversial lyrics about Swift by the singer herself. “I mean it’s like a compliment,” West says over the phone. And I really appreciate you telling me about it, that’s really nice!” “I’m really glad you had the respect to call me that and tell me that as a friend, about the song.” After the audio was released, Swift released response via Instagram stating that West left out the lyric, “I made that bitch famous.” “Where is the video of Kanye telling me he was going to call me ‘that bitch’ in his song?” Swift asked. “It doesn’t exist because it never happened. You don’t get to control someone’s emotional response to being called ‘that bitch’ in front of the entire world. Swift wrapped up the statement by referencing the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where West crashed Swift’s acceptance speech for Best Female Video. “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of, since 2009.” View Slideshow: 14 of the Craziest Celebrity Twitter Feuds EVER

Benji Madden: Cameron Diaz is ‘a modern day feminist’ who shares positivity

Embed from Getty Images Benji Madden has a new extensive interview in Newsweek for the 20th anniversary of his band, Good Charlotte (with his twin brother, Joel). Good Charlotte returned from a multi-year hiatus to release a new album last week. I’m not too familiar with Benji and apart from the fact that he seems to be genuinely in love with and supportive of his wife, Cameron Diaz, I don’t have a strong opinion about him. A quick glance at our archives reminds me that he’s dated several famous women including Paris Hilton and Holly Madison and apart from hearing about his other occasional hookups, I haven’t heard a bad word about him in the 10 years I’ve run this site. No scandals, no paparazzi beat-downs, no DUIs. That’s really saying something. So he seems like a serial monogamist and a standup guy. He’s also very supportive of Cameron, and they’ve each gushed about each other on their social media and to the press. That’s all background to this interview, which just impressed me with how wise and thoughtful he sounds. I mean I don’t agree with him about Cameron Diaz, but he comes across extremely well. On how the music industry can be hard on artists My brother and I feel blessed to have survived and still have loving, connected relationships with each other, with our wives, with our family. We feel like: “Hey, there are a lot of artists who might be able to use our experiences.” We’ve been able to withstand a lot of things in the industry because we had each other. We feel protective of other artists. This is not a business that is set up in favor of artists. It’s important for artists to value themselves—whatever that means. Everyone’s going to take that in a different way. If you don’t value yourself, you will be bought and sold. On the public’s obsession with celebrity I think it’s a very unhealthy trend that will eventually be broken when people realize how hollow it is for our minds, it’s very cancerous…it’s like fast food. Fast food companies are trending down, lots of places are going out of business. People figured out: “This is killing us, it’s f-king terrible.” The celebrity obsession is doing the same thing for our minds—it’s very hollow and I think that trend is going to break soon enough. On how Cameron uses her platform for good I’m extremely proud of what she uses her platform for. She just released The Longevity Book, and before that she had The Body Book [a lifestyle guide to diet and health], and she spent thousands of dollars doing all the research, to get information to share with women who don’t necessarily have the resources to get that information. She’s a modern day feminist—she wants to change the conversation that’s being had about women and ageing. With The Body Book, she wanted to share all this information she has gathered over the years with women so they can live happy, pain-free lives. I’m proud of her because of what a light she is in a world where it would be so much easier to use that stage to promote products. But she’s using that platform she has to share positivity. It’s been one of the most inspirational things in my life watching a woman be so courageous…she’s got so much integrity. I’m a lucky guy that I get to experience that. [From Newsweek] He talks a lot about the industry and about how music gets made and artists are managed, and I didn’t excerpt that as it’s not relevant but it’s worth a read. Benji wants to empower young artists to do it on their own and not get chewed up by the industry, which can be brutal. Getting back to Benji’s thoughts on Cameron, she tried. I covered a lot of the press she did for The Longevity Book and she made some misinformed statements about women and aging, but she tried and she meant well. She’s not an authority on health or aging but she used her platform to try to be. It’s true that she’s not just shilling products, and that’s something. Also, of course I disagree with Benji’s opinion that celebrity obsession is terrible for us. Using his same fast food analogy, you can go to McDonalds and get something to eat once in a while, you just balance your calories and get your nutrients from other meals. Just because you like to follow celebrity news doesn’t mean you’re not informed about more serious events or that you don’t care. Sometimes we need a diversion. Here’s a video that Cameron shared of Benji. She left this gushing caption about how proud she is of him, which seems to be mutual. One of my favorite things about being married, is how much pride I take in my husband @benjaminmadden… He makes me proud everyday.. One day it might be how generous and giving, another how gentle and thoughtful. Or when he is fiercely protective of the people he loves and cares about… And everyday single day I am so incredibly proud of his integrity as a human being.. But TODAY what I'm most proud of is his talent… his gift…. Today his band @goodcharlotteband released their first album in 6 years #YouthAuthority .. What makes me even more proud is that he has released it on his own independent label MDDN… And it is so damn GOOOOOOOOD… Its so full of love and hope and truth… about forging and holding onto love… I wish that everyone could write music to express their pain.. their fears… their hopes and dreams.
