Benji Madden: Cameron Diaz is ‘a modern day feminist’ who shares positivity

Benji Madden has a new extensive interview in Newsweek for the 20th anniversary of his band, Good Charlotte (with his twin brother, Joel). Good Charlotte returned from a multi-year hiatus to release a new album last week. I’m not too familiar with Benji and apart from the fact that he seems to be genuinely in love with and supportive of his wife, Cameron Diaz, I don’t have a strong opinion about him. A quick glance at our archives reminds me that he’s dated several famous women including Paris Hilton and Holly Madison and apart from hearing about his other occasional hookups, I haven’t heard a bad word about him in the 10 years I’ve run this site. No scandals, no paparazzi beat-downs, no DUIs. That’s really saying something. So he seems like a serial monogamist and a standup guy. He’s also very supportive of Cameron, and they’ve each gushed about each other on their social media and to the press. That’s all background to this interview, which just impressed me with how wise and thoughtful he sounds. I mean I don’t agree with him about Cameron Diaz, but he comes across extremely well.

On how the music industry can be hard on artists
My brother and I feel blessed to have survived and still have loving, connected relationships with each other, with our wives, with our family. We feel like: “Hey, there are a lot of artists who might be able to use our experiences.” We’ve been able to withstand a lot of things in the industry because we had each other. We feel protective of other artists.

This is not a business that is set up in favor of artists. It’s important for artists to value themselves—whatever that means. Everyone’s going to take that in a different way. If you don’t value yourself, you will be bought and sold.

On the public’s obsession with celebrity
I think it’s a very unhealthy trend that will eventually be broken when people realize how hollow it is for our minds, it’s very cancerous…it’s like fast food. Fast food companies are trending down, lots of places are going out of business. People figured out: “This is killing us, it’s f-king terrible.” The celebrity obsession is doing the same thing for our minds—it’s very hollow and I think that trend is going to break soon enough.

On how Cameron uses her platform for good
I’m extremely proud of what she uses her platform for. She just released The Longevity Book, and before that she had The Body Book [a lifestyle guide to diet and health], and she spent thousands of dollars doing all the research, to get information to share with women who don’t necessarily have the resources to get that information. She’s a modern day feminist—she wants to change the conversation that’s being had about women and ageing. With The Body Book, she wanted to share all this information she has gathered over the years with women so they can live happy, pain-free lives.

I’m proud of her because of what a light she is in a world where it would be so much easier to use that stage to promote products. But she’s using that platform she has to share positivity. It’s been one of the most inspirational things in my life watching a woman be so courageous…she’s got so much integrity. I’m a lucky guy that I get to experience that.

Holly Madison: ‘Rainbow’ isn’t a stripper name like ‘Amber, Crystal & Jessica’

wenn21925309

In 2013, Holly Madison gave birth to her first child, a baby girl she named Rainbow Aurora. Many people snarked on the name, but Holly always defended her choice and swore up and down that she had loved the name Rainbow since she was a kid and one of her classmates was named Rainbow. It did feel like some of the snark was mean-spirited, especially since the name had special significance to Holly. I get the feeling that she had planned to name her daughter that for many, many years. Well, Holly gave a wonderful and funny interview to Yahoo about baby names, stripper names, Kim Kardashian’s pregnancy and much more. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

The criticism she received for naming her daughter Rainbow: “Oh, yeah. I got flooded with stupid commentary on social media. It’s definitely a unique name. I like unique names and I wouldn’t have picked it if were common. But, growing up, there was a girl in my class named Rainbow. I grew up in Oregon, where a lot of hippies went to start families. There was a girl at school named Rainbow, and I was so jealous and I wanted it to be my name. So it’s definitely unusual, but it’s a name. It’s not like I called her Coffee Table. People love to say, “That’s a stripper name.” But I’ve spent a lot of time in Vegas and strippers aren’t named Rainbow. They’re named Amber, Crystal and Jessica.”

On Kim Kardashian’s pregnancy: “Honestly, I think the judgment comes from people who are jealous. Everyone would love to have Kim Kardashian’s wardrobe, so if you see her in something ill-fitting once in her life, people feel the need to throw stones. Everyone should just calm down. Bodies change throughout our lives, not just in pregnancy.”

Whether Hugh Hefner is still in her life or Rainbow’s life: “Absolutely not. When I left the mansion we were cordial for a while but eventually I opened my eyes to what kind of person he was and we haven’t talked for years. [Parenting is] not something he would be involved in. There are others who have brought their babies to the mansions after they were born, but it’s not something I would do.”

Whether she would want Rainbow to ever be a Playboy bunny: “I would not be OK with it. When she is an adult, she will be able to do what she wants, but from Day One I’ve tried to raise her to know she has value, her body parts have value, and she doesn’t have to do something cheap or tawdry to get attention. If she wanted to do — and God forbid she did — I would tell her my whole experience with it and I’d be honest that it wasn’t what I thought it would be.

[Yahoo Parenting]

She also talks at length – and quite eloquently – about what she learned in the long-run about posing nude and how that changed people’s perceptions of her and how differently she’s treated because of being in Playboy. She said in part: “A woman’s body is her own, a man’s is his own, and when we feel okay being naked is different for everybody. Some might feel okay in a locker room but not in public, or in Playboy but not a different publication. It’s a choice and everyone is entitled to the choice. I feel like once you’ve posed nude, suddenly people assume your body is always fair game.” That’s very true, and I’m guilty of that too. I always assume that once a person has posed nude, the jig is up and what’s the big deal about doing it over and over?

As for the stripper name stuff…the #1 stripper name is Crystal, according to a completely unofficial listicle, which you can see here. They put Tiffany at #2, then Amber, then Brandy/Brandi. What else… Lola, Angel, Ginger, Candy, Charity and Anastasia. I personally don’t think Jessica is a stripper name, but yes, I do sort of think of Amber, Angel, Candy and Crystal as stripper names.

Gabrielle Union’s Engagement Ring Is INSANE

Gabrielle+Union

Gabrielle Union‘s engagement ring is absolutely bonkers. You gotta see how big this thing is. TMZ reports that it’s 8.5 carats and goes for around $1 million. Check it out via her Instagram:

For sheer size, it reminds me of Holly Madison’s engagement ring.

Ms. Union is marrying basketball player Dwyane Wade.

What do you think of the ring? Glamorous or tacky?

Want To Know How Much Celebs Get Paid Per Tweet?

kim kardashian with long bangs

Kim Kardashian is always tweeting about something inane. Sometimes she’ll try to tweet about a product without it being incredibly obvious that they’re asking her to. But it’s always obvious. Lohan has been doing her own product endorsement, although the company claims they are not paying her.

And yes, apparently some celebs get paid to tweet about companies and products — even the D-list celebs. The more followers/famous the celeb, the more money they can command per tweet. For example, Kim Kardashian can get (allegedly) around $20,000 per tweet. Frankie Muniz can only get $252. (Nelson Muntz laugh here.)

Curious about Snooki and Jared Leto‘s asking prices? Click to see (stats from Huffington Post).

Farrah Abraham, 810,336 followers. $390.

Lance Bass, 454,817 followers. $650.

Lisa Rinna, 214,324 followers. $975.

Holly Madison, who wants to lose 40 pounds in 6 weeks, showed up on the red carpet at Cirque Du Soleil’s World Water Day celebration on Friday, just 3 weeks after giving birth – and she offered a few tips on how to look as slim as possible post-birth:

How do I hide my leftover preggo belly for the red carpet? Combine all my favorite slimming tips: a high waist, a flared skirt and a wide belt. Put those elements in your outfit (Spanx don’t hurt either!) and the pounds disappear for the night!’

… says Holly.

Holly Madison Baby Weight Gain: The Reality Star Plans To Lose It All In 6 Weeks

Holly Madison Baby Weight Gain, Before Photo

Holly Madison baby weight gain: Is losing 40 pounds a bit much in just six weeks?

From what I’ve heard, the first few weeks after a woman gives birth for the first time, she’s got a lot on her mind. Baby sleeping schedules, baby feeding schedules, baby, baby, baby! Add ‘immediate weight loss’ to that thought process and bingo! You just entered Holly Madison’s brain.

The 33-year-old recently did an interview with In Touch Weekly and according to her, she gained 40 pounds while pregnant with little Rainbow Aurora, whom she gave birth to a little over two weeks ago. She sure doesn’t look like she gained that much, but apparently it’s really a top priority to her because she is determined to lose the weight in just six weeks! That’s almost 7 pounds a week she’d have to lose!

Madison told the magazine: “Right now, I’m just concentrating on healing and eating healthy. I had my placenta turned into pills. My baby nurse said it would help me recover faster and get back on my feet.”

Regarding how she’s planning on losing the baby weight to get back to her 100-pound figure, she says: “We’re putting a gym in our house, so I’ll be doing yoga, Pilates and cardio.”

Rainbow’s mama says that her diet will mainly consist of green smoothies, coconut yogurt, vegetable soups, and teas for beverages.

Madison, who pre-baby danced for Peepshow, the show at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, says that shed love to get another gig like it.

“I think that would be a perfect schedule for me. Just go down the street, do the show for a couple of hours, and then be back with the baby,” she says.

For right now, getting back into shape is priority, though Madison says she’ll go about it with diet and exercise and leave the plastic surgery for later if she wants it. When asked if she’d go the surgery route she admits: “I want to have more kids,” and then adds, “Maybe when I’m done, that will make sense.”

You’re looking great Holly! Lighten up on yourself and give yourself some time girl!
