Kanye West on his Taylor Swift drama: ‘It’s like, I want the best for that person’

Kanye West flew out of LA on Wednesday and he managed to not throw a hissy fit, even though paparazzi and videographers (or whatever they’re called) swarmed him and asked him a million questions about the crazy month he’s been having. They even asked him about Kylie Jenner’s Puma deal and how he originally claimed Kylie wouldn’t take the deal because of his deal with Adidas. Kanye explained his tweets saying: “She already signed. And I was mad for a little bit. I’m really happy for her, though.” Kanye was also asked about Taylor Swift and their on-again beef. Someone asked if Taylor Swift should show him more respect, to which he said “No.” Then he said: “It’s like, I want the best for that person, but there’s people going through real issues out here. There’s people out of work. There’s people in debt that can’t make it out of the debt. There’s people that’s in debt that don’t have a shoe. There’s people that are in debt that don’t have a hit album out also — you know what I’m saying? … I don’t think people care about me or her in that way. People care about their families, their kids. If you like my music, listen to it. If you like her music, listen to it.” [From Us Weekly] “There’s people that’s in debt that don’t have a shoe. There’s people that are in debt that don’t have a hit album out also.” Won’t anyone think about the people without a hit album? What of those people?! Meanwhile, if you’ve been paying attention this week, you might have felt the reins tightening a bit around Kanye’s relationship with the Kardashian clan. There were some strategic leaks and quotes which basically made it sound like Kim has one foot out the door. And now this gem from Page Six: Kanye West is so out of control, family matriarch Kris Jenner is worried that “he’s damaging the Kardashian brand” and has ordered he get some crisis p.r. to reign him in. West’s team met with a host of top publicists within the last few months — but nobody is brave enough to work with him. A source said, “His Twitter rants are out of control, and Kris fears that he’s taking the family down. Kris wants Kanye to hire someone to handle all the noise and drama so he can focus on being an artist.” But the response from the p.r. world was deafeningly silent. One top publicist who was approached told us, “You couldn’t pay us enough to represent Kanye. He’s too much to handle.” [From Page Six] While I believe that Kris is worried, I don’t believe that there isn’t some high-powered, masochistic publicist who would love to take Kanye on as a client. I mean, Madonna has a publicist. Mariah Carey has a publicist. Like Kanye would be the first self-destructive, crazy, uncontrollable mess ever? No. Last thing, these quotes from unnamed sources to People Magazine: Kim is still supporting Kanye “from everything I’ve heard…They’re incredibly supportive of one another, not only publicly, but privately as well. Kim has a unique understanding of him, probably in a deeper way than anybody else in the world. She’s understanding of the way that he operates….[Kim] will do whatever to make this work. I don’t know what they talk about on private about this stuff, but contradiction is very often Kanye’s calling card.” Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.

Kesha loses injunction to break her contract with her alleged abuser Dr. Luke

In 2014, Kesha went into a facility to get help for a bad personal situation. She was drinking too much and abusing drugs, plus she had mental health issues, an eating disorder and she was dealing with some intense issues from her relationship with producer Dr. Luke. Later that same year, Kesha filed a civil lawsuit against Dr. Luke claiming that he mentally and physically abused her, drugged her and sexually assaulted her. She wanted to be let out of her recording contract. Dr. Luke countersued and claimed Kesha had made the whole thing up and that he would not be letting her out of her contract. Well, Kesha went to New York Supreme Court on Friday to find out that the judge had thrown out Kesha’s injunction. Basically, Dr. Luke won because this judge, Justice Shirley Kornreich, has a totally Pollyanna idea of how the music industry really works. Here’s part of People Magazine’s report: Kesha’s lawyers fought for a preliminary injunction that would allow her to record and release music without Dr. Luke, 42, whom she is also suing for allegedly drugging and raping her. The singer also alleges he has abused her verbally and emotionally for a decade. (Luke has vehemently denied the allegations through his lawyer, Christine Lepera, who has told PEOPLE: “Kesha and her mother are engaged in a campaign of publishing outrageous and untrue statements about Dr. Luke to third parties, including scurrilous and false statements of purported physical and mental abuse of Kesha.”) However, Justice Shirley Kornreich recounted that both Sony and Luke provided affidavits that they would allow Kesha to record without the producer. “Your major issue is your client is saying she cannot with Mr. Gottwald. Reading these papers, I notice that Sony and [Dr. Luke’s record label] Kemosabe Records say they don’t care if Gottwald has anything to do with anything with the recording,” the judge said to Kesha’s attorney, Mark Geragos. “They are willing to allow her to record without any involvement of Mr. Gottwald … and there are papers from Mr. Gottwald that say he will agree to allow her to record without his involvement … She doesn’t have to work with him.” But, Geragos responded, arguing that it was an “illusory promise…If he’s the one in charge of the company that does all the things to produce it … she can record right now, but no one is going to hear it,” he said, reiterating his assertion that Kesha’s future in music is in jeopardy because the typical lifespan of a pop artist’s career is short and that he believes her album won’t be promoted in an attempt to sabotage her career. Geragos added: “She has a window in which she can produce music, that it can get out there, that it can get promoted … His end game here is to destroy her… She is set up to fail.” The judge disagreed, citing the companies’ competitive objective to make money and the clear terms of the contract, which require Kesha to record six more albums. “You’re asking the court … to decimate a contract which was heavily negotiated and signed by two parties in an industry where these kinds of contacts are typical; you’re asking me to decimate all that law,” said the judge. “Now the other side has come forward to say, ‘We will let her record without Dr. Luke.’ I don’t understand your problem … It’s not in [the company’s] best interest to not make money and not promote a recording artist.” Upon the judge’s dismissal of the request for the injunction, Kesha broke down in tears, holding her face in her hands while mom Pebe and boyfriend Brad Ashenfelter did their best to console her the bereaved pop star excused herself from the room for a spell with a bodyguard. Lawyers also argued over dueling counterclaims, but the judge has yet to make a ruling, reserving to decide on the matters at a later time, perhaps when more evidence has been presented. [From People] “It’s not in [the company’s] best interest to not make money and not promote a recording artist.” How naive. The judge assumes that every person in the music industry has simple, straight-forward capitalist motives and that there’s not a history of music producers and labels actively thwarting a singer or songwriter’s career over personal or professional drama, regardless if those un-capitalist motives end up losing money. Even if you’re not familiar with the music industry in general, watch 20 Feet From Stardom and listen to Darlene Love’s story about how her early career was ruined because of a sh-tty contract and a producer who was a petulant sadist. That sh-t STILL HAPPENS. For a while on Friday, #FreeKesha was trending on Twitter, and many women in the music industry tweeted their support for Kesha – go here to see. Kelly Clarkson sounds like she has some stories about Dr. Luke that I would be interested in hearing. This feels like… the beginning of something. Like, Dr. Luke might be Cosby’d in public. Pope Francis & Donald Trump are beefing about immigration, Christianity

In this photo, imagine Pope Francis saying, “Talk to the hand, Dorito.” As you’ve probably seen the news coverage by now, you know that Pope Francis was on a multi-day trip to Mexico, where he said mass for tens of thousands of people, visited the border and fussed at some dirtbag who basically pulled him onto a dude in a wheelchair. As the Pope was concluding his Mexico trip, he did a press conference for the media outlets trailing him. He was asked about the Church’s stance on birth control, given the outbreak of the Zika virus and the medical recommendations that men wear condoms to avoid infecting their partners. Francis was basically like “I can’t technically tell people that it’s fine to wear condoms, but it’s not really all that sinful in this particular case.” Which, hey, is a good first step. Then Francis got a question about Donald Trump. And the Pope did not hold back. Inserting himself into the Republican presidential race, Pope Francis on Wednesday suggested that Donald J. Trump “is not Christian” because of the harshness of his campaign promises to deport more immigrants and force Mexico to pay for a wall along the border. “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,” Francis said when a reporter asked him about Mr. Trump on the papal airliner as he returned to Rome after his six-day visit to Mexico. Mr. Trump has staked out controversial positions on immigration, vowing to force Mexico to build a wall and also increase deportations. He has also made inflammatory comments accusing Mexican immigrants of being rapists and criminals. Asked whether he would try to influence Catholics in how they vote in the presidential election, Francis said he “was not going to get involved in that” but then repeated his criticism of Mr. Trump, with a caveat. “I say only that this man is not Christian if he has said things like that,” Francis said. “We must see if he said things in that way and in this I give the benefit of the doubt.” [From The NYT] Sure. And guess who has orange skin, a bouffant wiglet, no self-control and two thumbs? THIS GUY. So of course Donald Trump had to respond. Trump told a crowd in South Carolina that ISIS’s “primary goal is to get to the Vatican. That would be their ultimate trophy.” Is it though? And: “If and when the Vatican is attacked… the pope would only wish and have prayed that Donald Trump would have been elected president. Because this would not have happened.” Will Francis really be praying for that specifically? Trump also said: “No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith. They are using the Pope as a pawn and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so, especially when so many lives are involved and when illegal immigration is so rampant.” [From Jezebel] Yeah. So Donald Trump and Pope Francis are boy-beefing. How does that make you feel? For what it’s worth, I don’t think Francis was really questioning Trump’s faith as much as Francis was making a larger plea for understanding and compassion for immigrants. But whatever. Duchess Kate blogs from Kensington Palace about children’s mental health

Today is the day. Right at this very moment, our Duchess Kate has turned into a blogger and blog editor. Like many professional bloggers, she’s working from home. Unlike most professional bloggers, Kate’s home is a palace. Kate invited editors and writers from the Huffington Post UK to Kensington Palace today so they could work together to “guest edit” a day of HuffPo UK devoted to children’s mental health. If you follow @KensingtonRoyal, you’ll see that the younger royal’s Twitter feed has been taken over with at least two dozen tweets about Kate’s work. That Twitter feed also posted some photos of Kate in this Reiss blouse at the palace, hard at work. If only we could ALL look this glamorous whilst blogging. Oh, and to start her day, Kate posted this essay about the importance of mental health. Do you think she wrote this herself? Not to be a hater… but I do not believe she wrote this. It is such a privilege to have this opportunity to be Guest Editor of the Huffington Post today, and to celebrate the amazing work being done to improve and understand the mental health of young children. Young Minds Matter, being launched today, is a new series where issues and work around the mental health of young children will be explored. Shortly after I got married, I started working with charities helping those affected by issues such as addiction, family breakdown and vulnerable children. As was to be expected, I often heard some heart-breaking stories about lives that had been torn apart, with devastating impacts for all involved, particularly children. What I did not expect was to see that time and time again, the issues that led people to addiction and destructive decision making seemed to almost always stem from unresolved childhood challenges. It became clear to me that many children – even those younger than five – have to deal with complex problems without the emotional resilience, language or confidence to ask for help. And it was also clear that with mental health problems still being such a taboo, many adults are often too afraid to ask for help for the children in their care. It is time for this to change. The mental health of our children must be seen as every bit as important as their physical health. For too long we have been embarrassed to admit when our children need emotional or psychiatric help, worried that the stigma associated with these problems would be detrimental to their futures. Research published today by the Huffington Post indicates that around a third of parents still worry that they will look like a bad mother or father if their child has a mental health problem. Parenting is hard enough without letting prejudices stop us from asking for the help we need for ourselves and our children. Like most parents today, William and I would not hesitate to seek help for our children if they needed it. We hope to encourage George and Charlotte to speak about their feelings, and to give them the tools and sensitivity to be supportive peers to their friends as they get older. We know there is no shame in a young child struggling with their emotions or suffering from a mental illness. Of course, for some parents and carers seeking help is not so easy. When families are short of time or money it is not always easy to know where to look for help or advice. That is why we need schools and communities to play their full role to help children who are struggling in ways that are not always easy to see. In the series of articles we have commissioned, you will be introduced to some extraordinary people and organisations. You will hear from a recently bereaved wife, confronting the reality that the depression that led to her husband’s suicide was with him as a 10-year old boy. You will hear from people who have fought back from their own serious illness to lead a change in the way we speak to children about their feelings and challenges. You will meet some of the extraordinary researchers who are asking important questions about the mental health of young people, and are getting answers that will be of real benefit to all parents and teachers. I am so grateful to all those who have participated in this series and to all those who will contribute after today. I am also hugely grateful to all of you who will take the time to read, to watch, and to listen to these stories. Together, we have the chance to make a real difference for an entire generation of young children. [From HuffPo UK] “Like most parents today, William and I would not hesitate to seek help for our children if they needed it.” I sometimes wonder about this. Because from what little we know about how the Windsors reacted following Princess Diana’s death, I really don’t think William or Harry ever, ever got any therapy or grief counseling or anything like that. I believe the Windsors are very anti-counseling, anti-talk-therapy, pro-stiff-upper-lip. And I wonder if Kate sometimes wonders if William needs counseling now to deal with his issues. And if William won’t accept help, what would he do if his children needed help? Photos courtesy of WENN, @KensingtonRoyal Twitter.

The anti-Beyonce protest in NYC turned into a Black Lives Matter demonstration

A photo posted by Beyoncé (@beyonce) on Feb 7, 2016 at 5:46pm PST You know what’s amazing? People are still SO MAD about Beyonce. They’re mad because Beyonce celebrated her blackness in the “Formation” video. They’re mad that she had the audacity to feature the phrase “stop killing us” in the video. They’re mad because something something black people and police. And they’re especially mad that Beyonce slayed at the Super Bowl and that she and her militant dancers threw up a Black Power salute during their performance. My reaction to all of that outrage has been “…and?” Why wouldn’t Bey celebrate her blackness? Why wouldn’t she have something to say about cops killing people of color? Why would her militancy – or her use of militant imagery – offend people so damn much? So, all of the sad anti-Beyonce people decided to throw an anti-Beyonce protest in New York yesterday. And this is what happened: Protest against @Beyonce outside NFL HQ turns out to be no show #1010wins pic.twitter.com/dY6O2dD6aY — glenn schuck (@glennschuck) February 16, 2016 And then to make matters even more amazing, a bunch of pro-Beyonce people came out, and they joined up with some Black Lives Matter organizers, and the whole thing turned into a pro-Beyonce, pro-BLM, anti-police-violence demonstration. AMAZING. People got in formation to counter-protest the #boycottBeyonce protest Tuesday morning https://t.co/BUT4PLcMG9 pic.twitter.com/KSDV0XqHTn — BuzzFeed News (@BuzzFeedNews) February 17, 2016 Still, all of that isn’t stopping wingnuts from blaming Beyonce for everything involving police and guns, etc. This story out of Tennessee is pretty crazy/stupid. Amber Rose calls Kanye West a ‘f–king clown’: ‘You don’t bring in my baby’

Here are some photos of Amber Rose on Wednesday, after Kanye West’s Twitter rant directed at Wiz Khalifa (Amber’s ex) and after Amber body-slammed Kanye on Twitter. A lot is being said and written about Kanye’s constant disses towards Amber Rose following their breakup more than four years ago. Some think Kanye still has feelings for or about Amber. Some think Kanye is a petty child. I don’t disagree. But if I can just point out one small thing: Kanye called Amber a “stripper” in his Twitter rant because he thought Wiz made a derogatory reference to Kim (as it turned out, Wiz was just talking about weed). If Wiz or anyone else actually did slam Kim, I would expect Kanye to act the exact same way. None of which means that Kanye was in the right, especially when Kanye went in on Sebastian, Amber and Wiz’s son. So, Amber did an interview with the podcast Allegedly and she reacted to Kanye’s shade towards Sebastian. She apparently calls Ye a “f—king clown.” And more: “The thing of it is like, I would never talk about kids in like, an argument. It just shows the type of person he is. You know, even him saying stuff about my son, I still didn’t say anything about his kids. I’m not going to. That’s ridiculous. They’re innocent babies. You don’t ever, ever talk about a baby, ever. It just shows how f–king ridiculous he is.” “Listen, don’t talk about my kid. That’s all I got to say. Don’t talk about my baby. I wouldn’t have said anything if it was just between him and Wiz. That’s two grown men hashing it out. I would’ve kept it cute and just minded my business. You don’t bring in my baby. That’s so corny. That’s the second time you did it this week.” [From E! News] For sure. Don’t talk about the children. And she’s absolutely right: imagine the weeks of drama if Amber even mentioned North or Saint on Twitter or in an interview. Just to play devil’s advocate though… while Kanye absolutely should never had even referenced Amber’s child, the tweets felt more like Kanye was attacking Amber, that Amber was the target more than anyone else. He tweeted to Wiz: “I know you mad every time you look at your child that this girl got you for 18 years.” That’s a common theme with Kanye, that a “Golddigger” will get knocked up and you’ll be paying her for 18 years. That’s a slam against Amber. The other two references were “You wouldn’t have a child if it wasn’t for me” and “You own waves???? I own your child!!!!” I think “you wouldn’t have a child” is about how if Kanye hadn’t broken up with Amber, she never would have gotten with Wiz, etc. As for “I own your child”… I don’t even know what that’s about, I really don’t. Again, I’m not defending Kanye, but Amber acts like Kanye name-checked Sebastian specifically when really Kanye just needs to stop obsessing over Amber full-stop. Also: Amber wrote an essay about slut-shaming and judgmental people for Time Magazine – you can read her piece here. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.
