In Touch: Drew Barrymore & Will have been separated for a year

Embed from Getty Images The tabloids reported last fall that Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman were having problems and had been living apart for a while. Then of course they announced last Friday that they were formally splitting and planned to divorce soon. In Touch now claims that Drew is the one who decided to separate after she had a personal revelation during her 40th birthday vacation that she was unhappy in her marriage. This is consistent with everything we’ve heard in major celebrity outlets, and it’s not surprising that there’s a specific moment when Drew decided to leave. That seems so much like her. In Touch magazine, on newsstands tomorrow, is reporting that a turning point for Drew came in February 2015, when she turned 40. She took a trip to Hawaii and realized how unhappy she was. “Inside, she was crying,” a family insider tells In Touch. “She felt like she wasn’t in control of her life anymore.” Things got worse quickly. “Drew began contacting her attorneys in the fall of 2015,” the family insider adds. “She tried to keep it together for as long as she could, but their relationship was broken beyond repair.” “Part of the problem is that Drew and Will are total opposites. He’s very organized and used to keeping a schedule, and Drew’s flighty, always late and is truly a wild child at heart,” the family insider tells In Touch. “Because she came from a broken family, Drew tried so hard to play the devoted wife role. She desperately wanted that sense of family and stability, and for a while she thought she found that in Will.” But in 2014, she returned to the big screen with the Adam Sandler dud Blended. “At that point, she wanted to ramp up her career again and Will didn’t want her to,” says the family insider. “They fought bitterly about it.” Adds a source close to Drew, “There was no infidelity, nothing dramatic like that. This has been going on for a long time. They’ve been working on their issues. In the end, they feel like, ‘This is a bummer. We tried.’” The couple remains on good terms. “They are still living together,” says the source close to Drew. “They have places in NYC and in LA. Both are in LA right now, living in the same house.” [From In Touch] That sounds about right, and we’ve heard it several times now – Drew was unhappy, she did some soul searching, they tried for a while and ultimately ended it. It’s sad but it happens to so many couples. They seem to be putting their kids first and focusing on what matters. E! also has an insider story about Drew, and it reinforces the narratives in US Magazine and People this week. Their insider says that “This was a slow burn. It was not a decision that they came to over night. They worked on things for a long time and have had time to adjust.” As I mentioned yesterday, this sounds so much like all the stories around the Garner-Affleck split and I don’t think that’s a coincidence. Drew’s longterm friend, Cameron Diaz, was on Andy Cohen’s XM show promoting her new book recently. Andy asked her if she’d reached out to Drew after hearing about her split and she responded in general terms, but it sounds like she has. She said “Everybody pulls the wagons around, you know, our friends, whoever needs us in whatever point in time. Even if it’s something that the public doesn’t know about. Internally we’re all going, like, ‘OK, who needs us now?’ And that really is, I think, a major part of the connectivity we need. We need to keep those things connected.” So it sounds like Cameron has known for some time that Drew is having relationship trouble. Drew just talked about Cameron in her Marie Claire interview so I don’t doubt that Cameron has been helping her. Plus she recently Instagrammed this: I am so proud of my dearest girlfriend. We just saw photos from her royal-themed baby shower, which some of you thought was gauche and others found sweet. Chrissy’s photoshoot theme for Self was motocross, which was clever. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a motocross theme for a women’s magazine, fitness or otherwise, apart from the occasional motorcycle as prop. They seem to have done the shoot when she was early in her pregnancy and hadn’t popped yet, or they Photoshopped her, it’s likely a bit of both. In the piece they say that Chrissy won’t discuss her due date as she’s trying to throw off the paparazzi. (Which is bizarre to me as she seems to enjoy them, but I get that she wants to protect her newborn.) They also talk about her cookbook and cooking blog, her TV hosting gigs, how busy she is and how she seems to get in a lot of twitter fights. I know Chrissy isn’t everyone’s favorite celebrity, she grates a little, but she does know how to hustle I’ll give her that. Plus she and John Legend are genuinely in love and coupled up, you can tell. On her approach to social media If I’m passionate about something, I’ll say it and deal with the consequences later. On her difficulty conceiving and going through IVF The big question was why this wasn’t working for us when I was young and he was healthy. I thought, People get pregnant by accident all the time! How does this happen? Emotionally, it could be really hard. One of the things that saved us is that we never did that real fertility thing, where you’re looking at the ovulation clock and saying, ‘Honey, get home; we have to do it right now.’ John would say, ‘Let’s never be that couple that has to schedule sex, where we put it on the calendar and say, OK, this is our night.’ So before we did IVF, even if we went a few days or a week, our feeling was, it’s cool, who cares? On being photographed at the beach when she was going through IVF I looked horrible, totally not myself. Then to not be able to say what it was, it sucked. On being both a foodie and a model It always bothered me when someone would interview a model and say, ‘What do you do to stay in shape?’ and she would say, ‘I love to eat pizza; I love to indulge.’ I’ve always been the first one to say, ‘Bulls—! No you don’t.’ So I’ve been hyperaware of that, and I waited years to write a cookbook because I wanted people to know I really do love food.” [She eats what she wants but stays active] I like having that balance. She’s worried about their new arrival but John is laid back He’s been wonderful. He has a big family with nieces and nephews, and he actually knows more than I do about kids. It’s going to be very sexy to see this new side of him… I’ve truly never been alone with a kid. I don’t think I’ve changed a diaper! I’m like, how many times a day do they go?… I’m a worrier, and he’s very laid-back. I am the crazier one in the relationship, and he’s more relaxed, for sure. She wants four kids, one after the other I think I’ll probably be pregnant all through my 30s,. I’ve always pictured everyone around the table for the holidays and together once a week. It’ll be heartbreaking if it doesn’t end up happening, but hopefully it will. We’ve got some embryos on hold. Four [kids] is good, I think. And then, maybe a dog after. She reads comments on online recipes in her spare time and her love of cooking came from watching her Thai mom improvise recipes. As for her interview, I came away from it with a better understanding of her. Chrissy seems both Type A, which I can respect, and rather open and honest while seeking attention. It’s the last couple of things which make her a bit overexposed. Chrissy is in our face a lot, but she’s somehow just as well known as her pop star husband, and that’s a feat for a model. Oh and I love what she said about models claiming they love to indulge. They may, but their idea of indulging is not the same as the rest of us. Tom Hiddleston will pee on you in a heartbeat if you get stung by a jellyfish

Embed from Getty Images Tom Hollander is best known – by me – for playing Mr. Collins in the Keira Knightley version of Pride & Prejudice. He also has a part in The Night Manager, starring Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie. They filmed TNM all over Europe and the Middle East, and the cast seemed to have a rare day off while they were filming in Mallorca. So they all went swimming together. And Hollander got stung by some jellyfish. And that’s when the story gets really interesting. You see, Tom Hiddleston is a good friend. He will pee on you in a heartbeat, that’s how lovely he is. Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, Tom Hollander – who also appears in ITV drama Doctor Thorne – said the incident happened in Mallorca while the whole cast were hanging out. He recalled: “Here I was sitting by the seaside with Hugh Laurie who is one of the most entertaining people you’ll ever meet in your life and Olivia Colman, Tom Hiddleston, Elizabeth Debicki… “The jellyfish incident was a sad tale because otherwise it was paradise until we went swimming and I, because I’m a gentlemen, lent Elizabeth Debicki my goggles which I’d brought to Mallorca because I knew about the jellyfish problem but she didn’t have any so she wore them and I swam into all the jellyfish. And I don’t know if you’ve ever been stung but it’s really, really painful. Guess who peed on me? Tom Hiddleston, he saw this, he is heroic and sort of Bond like. He’s officer class, he’s someone you want to stand next to as you go over the top in the First World War. Out of the corner of my eye someone with sharp strokes cutting through the water, Hiddleston had seen I was in trouble, he came out to me, I was standing on a rock submerged in just a few feet of water and he said, ‘It’s alright. Stand back, I know what to do’. And he said, ‘Where is it?’ I said ‘It’s all warm now.’ Tom had done what he needed to do which was to p**s all over me. And I’m sorry to say, it doesn’t actually work.” [From The Express] I’ve always thought that the urine-on-a-jellyfish-sting was true, but I looked it up and apparently there’s no scientific basis for it. In fact, urinating on a jellyfish sting can actually make the sting/pain worse. Which I didn’t know before now. Hiddles didn’t know either, which is why he peed on a friend. Poor Hollander! Lady Gaga wore Gucci to perform the National Anthem at SB50: fab or fug?

Embed from Getty Images I’m developing a bizarre conspiracy theory about Lady Gaga this year. Not only does she look really, really different these days, but she sounds different too, right? I had totally forgotten that Gaga was scheduled to sing the National Anthem at Super Bowl 50, so I was pleasantly surprised when she stepped out in a sparkly suit and did a “Broadway” version of the Anthem. But… I didn’t think she sounded like herself. Her voice sounded different to me. Is it possible that she pre-recorded the Anthem and there was some post-production trickery? Is it possible that Old Gaga has been replaced by New Botox Gaga? I’m just putting it out there. If “Paul is dead” can be a conspiracy that lasts for decades, so too can the “Gaga has been replaced” conspiracy. She sounded fine. I’m glad that she treated the Anthem with respect and that she used the opportunity to show off her vocals, because it’s a notoriously difficult song to sing correctly. I’m also glad that Gaga wore an appropriate outfit, mostly because I’m grateful I’m not having to sift through 10 million headlines about “Why did Gaga wear a meat dress and nude panties to the Super Bowl?” Gaga’s sparkly suit is Gucci. Classy! Her blue sparkly mani got some attention too. Good for her. Man, 2016 really is turning out to be Gaga’s comeback year. She posted the results of her meeting with the stylist to the stars (his other clients include Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox and Miley Cyrus) on her Instagram page with the caption, “It’s 3:20 am and @mrchrismcmillan just banged me ‼️ #PastMyBedtime.” She later posted a photo with Chris, who got his inspiration fot Allison’s new look from Jane Birkin, the English actress and singer who not only was the muse to legendary French singer Serge Gainsbourg but also served as the inspiration for the coveted Hermès Birkin bag. Sure, bangs are cute for a while, but once you get sick of them, you’re screwed for months while waiting for them to grow out. Trust me, I’m going through “bang regret” right now. I’m a big advocate of the clip-on bangs to change up your look without making a commitment. If only one of her friends showed her this video before she headed to the stylist. Kristen Stewart: Conversations about gender pay disparity are ‘boring’

Embed from Getty Images While I am legitimately disappointed that so many non-white artists were snubbed with #OscarSoWhite, I’m also a little bit disappointed that Kristen Stewart was snubbed too. Kristen walked away from this year’s awards season with some surprise critics’ awards for her work in Clouds of Sils Maria, and there were some hopes that she would make a late surge and end up with an Oscar nomination. Alas, it was not to be. But a lot of people like the current version of K-Stew. She’s less lip-bitey and she’s leaning in to her indie roots. Kristen is currently at Sundance to promote the drama Certain Women, and she chatted with E! News about what’s next for her career: Whether she’s offered roles in franchises all the time: “They’re not too common. Trust me, I would love to find a big doozy of a movie that’s interesting and worthwhile.” Would she play a superhero? “Maybe. Go print that—I can’t wait to play a superhero.” She really wants to direct: “Hopefully as soon as humanly possible. I really want to. I have to find the right thing. I started working when I was nine. I love this industry. I love what movies can do so I’ll find my story.” She’s been to Sundance many times & she loves indie films: “I’m not totally biased. I really like making the small ones and I like making the big ones. It’s just when you get the right people together who really care about something, who are not solely interested in getting just love and attention and money and stuff and it’s really for the love of the meditation on a subject and getting into something and baring your soul, [Sundance] is the perfect place to do it.” [From E! News] Since I was snowed in for the better part of three days (damn you, snowpocalypse!), I watched Avengers: Age of Ultron like three times on one of the premium cable channels. I was struck again by Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlett Witch role, which, to Olsen’s credit, she played well, the perfect mix of camp and legit drama. I wonder if that’s the kind of thing Kristen wishes she was up for – a supporting part in a Marvel movie, something like that. Or does she wish she could be Wonder Woman, steering her own franchise? I think it’s interesting that Kristen has been saying variations of “I’d love to do another big movie/franchise again” for the past year too – I mean, I know she’s not broke so it’s not like she needs the money. I think she’s just spent some time reevaluating what Twilight gave her, and she’d like another crack at a franchise, this time as an adult. Oh, and I saw this too late – Kristen spoke to Variety and she was asked about gender pay disparity. You can watch the video here, which I would recommend. She seems to acknowledge her privilege at the beginning, but she also basically tells women in the industry to suck it up. At one point, she says: “Instead of sitting around and complaining about that, do something. Go write something, go do something. And that’s easy to say. Like, f–k, it’s hard to get movies made. It’s a huge luxury. Who gets to just make movies? But that subject is just so prevalently everywhere right now, and it’s boring.” Oh, the discussion about inequality is boring, K-Stew? I couldn’t figure it out at first, because it just seemed like she was trending after she posted an Instagram of her cleavage and a man’s arm draped across her chest (the image above). She captioned the IG “the beginning.” I still didn’t get it. But then I saw TMZ’s story about it and… well… WOW. TMZ did some investigating and it seems like the arm belongs to none other than Rob Kardashian. For some background… Blac Chyna used to be tight with all of the Kardashians, mostly Khloe and Kim. They were girlfriends and they hung out together a lot. But then Blac Chyna’s boyfriend/fiancé/baby daddy Tyga dumped her for then-underage Kylie Jenner. When Blac Chyna’s friend (and Kardashian enemy) Amber Rose called out Tyga and Kylie on social media, Khloe stormed in and slammed Amber Rose AND Blac Chyna. So, for a few years now, Blac Chyna and the Kardashians have not been friendly at all. Blac Chyna and Tyga are still beefing regularly too, and Blac Chyna is basically Brandi Glanville (to Kylie Jenner’s LeAnn Rimes), if that gives you some kind of context. So, is this a revenge hookup? Is Blac Chyna sticking it to the Kardashian women by starting something with Poor Rob? I don’t even know. I mean, there’s definitely something shady going on, but I’m not even going to lay this on Blac Chyna’s doorstep. WTF is Rob even thinking? And of course Khloe had some stuff to say.
