Did Jennifer Aniston’s late mother Nancy Dow cut Jen out of her will?

Jennifer Aniston’s mother Nancy Dow passed away back in May. I actually covered it at the time because Nancy Dow was an actress at one point, and because Aniston and her mom had a very public falling out back in the 1990s. Aniston would occasionally reference her mother in interviews, giving updates about the state of their relationship. From what I remember of Aniston’s interviews over the years, she let Nancy back into her life circa 2005, but there were still significant rifts between mother and daughter. Still, Aniston apparently paid her mom’s bills, especially after Nancy’s health declined over the past five years especially. And after all of that… Nancy Dow didn’t leave her daughter anything in her will, apparently. Not only that, Nancy left her “private writings” about Jennifer to someone else, someone who will likely sell the material. In its latest issue on newsstands now, an insider tells In Touch magazine that Jennifer Aniston’s late mom Nancy Dow, bequeathed her home, all of her money and other personal items — including scores of personal writings about Jen — to another relative. Nancy, who died at 79, “changed her will about a year ago, and no one in the family knew a thing about it,” the insider tells In Touch exclusively. “Even though Jen and Nancy had a very strained relationship, Jen still paid almost all of Nancy’s bills in her final years,” says the insider. Jen famously stopped talking to Nancy in 1996 after she gave an interview about her daughter to the tabloid TV show Hard Copy. Three years later, the rift widened after Nancy wrote — against Jen’s wishes — about their painful falling-out in the tell-all From Mother and Daughter to Friends: A Memoir. Instead of paying Jen back after her death, “Nancy left the relative her condo and more than a million dollars that she’d saved. She was a penny-pincher, and the alimony she received from Jen’s dad, John [Aniston], was pretty much never touched.” Even worse, Nancy left all of her private writings to the relative. “Nancy wrote down everything about Jen, and that material is now in the hands of someone who could profit from it,” the insider tells In Touch. [From In Touch Weekly] If this is true – and I think it’s probably true – this should answer all of your questions about Jennifer and Nancy’s estrangement. Even in death, Nancy Dow was trying to stick it to her daughter. It’s so nasty, passive-aggressive and ridiculous, it’s almost funny in a very dark and f—ked up way. I mean, Aniston doesn’t need her mother’s money or her estate, but if Aniston was paying her mother’s bills (which I also think is true), then this is just one final screw-you from mother to daughter. How would you take it if your own mother treated you like that, up until the very end? Embed from Getty Images Photos courtesy of Getty, Fame/Flynet.

Rami Malek: It’s harder to talk to new people in LA than it is in New York

I really do listen when you guys request more coverage (or to start covering) new or interesting dudes. I’m still looking for an excuse to write more about Matthias Schoenaerts, who is my latest major crush (and who never gets pap’d). I’d also love to write about Aidan Turner or James Norton, but honestly, we rarely get photos of those guys and there are never any stories about them. Seriously! We’ve had requests for MOAR Rami Malek, and more general love for Mr. Robot over the past year. The first season of Mr. Robot was dark and weird and disturbing, and many believe the show is one of the most interesting things on TV these days, and that Rami Malek, the star, is the Next Big Thing. One of Rami’s biggest fans is Robert Downey Jr. RDJ has name-checked Rami in a few interviews, and RDJ also cited Mr. Robot as one of his favorite TV shows. So guess who interviewed Rami for Interview Magazine? RDJ, of course! Mr. Robot Season 2 just started last night, that’s why Rami is chatting. You can read the full piece here. While it’s a nice read, there’s not a lot of noteworthy stuff here. Malek seems like a nice guy, but he also seems to be living the job, or he just plays his personal life very close to the vest. Some highlights: On RDJ visiting the set of Mr. Robot: “That was amazing. You turned me into a hero when you came to set. I’m not kidding. They were like, “You know him?” “How do you know him?” I knew it was very cool to know you, but the world started paying me more attention on that day on set. Maybe I elaborated on our relationship too much and started fantasizing it was more than it actually was. No, I just told them how close we were and that we hang out, we celebrate holidays together, we watch movies together, all of which is true!” He’s an honorary New Yorker now: “I’ve always felt like I belong there. Growing up [in L.A.] and having a family here was something that I, of course, adored because I was surrounded with that unit. But from the first time I went over there, I felt connected to the way things move, the pace, the ability to strike up a conversation with anybody. I know that people often say it’s hard to talk to people in New York. I think it’s harder sometimes in L.A. But I like the neighborhood vibe, I like getting on the train and going anywhere with that type of speed, having everything at my disposal. The culture, the pace, all of it. I like feeling like I’m in that concrete jungle.” Whether he’ll be typecast because of Mr. Robot: “It’s something that I think about daily. I don’t want people to look back and think, “This character was entirely in his wheelhouse, and he’s probably going to end up playing a bunch of paranoid guys who have conspiracy theories.” Which could easily happen! I’ve had my fair share of 1970s conspiracy movies delivered over. I would love to turn around and do something polar opposite, and that might actually be happening soon. If the right people are involved and the script is just as powerful, I’d like to make some even crazier choices.” [From Interview Magazine] True story: I really did try to get into Mr. Robot during the first season but I just couldn’t. It was too dark and I kept losing track of the evil characters. Maybe I’ll give it another shot, because there are some hardcore devotees. As for Rami being typecast… one of my favorite pieces of trivia about him is that he was in both of the Night At the Museum movies. And he was in Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2. He won’t be typecast! Rami also has a new profile in GQ – go here to read. Photos courtesy of Josh Olins/Interview Magazine.

Tom Hiddleston & Taylor are already talking about Tiddlebabies, Tiddlematrimony

As I mentioned at the end of Sunday’s post, Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift had a “date night” in Australia this weekend. They went out to eat at Gemelli, an Italian restaurant in Broadbeach. While there are many details of the date night, unfortunately none of those details involve Tiddles feeding each other pasta and meatballs, Lady and the Tramp-style, nor do the details involve fudge and swan pastries. According to Us Weekly, “Tom looked smitten with her as they talked softly and she giggled a lot” and Taylor’s skin looked “a little more sun-kissed than usual.” Us Weekly’s eyewitness went on in barf-inducing detail: “They were beaming as they gave warm smiles to onlookers, like any new couple who just can’t hide their feelings for each other.” People Magazine’s eyewitnesses also noted that Taylor told restaurant staffers that Italian food is her favorite and she was super-excited to try Gemelli’s food. Tiddles spent “several hours at dinner before returning to their hotel in a chauffeured car.” People Mag also notes that Tom and Taylor have been exceedingly polite to their fans, many of whom have gathered outside the hotel. Here are some photos of their date night: Ohhh, boy. Taylor Swift is just GLOWING with the look of love ? https://t.co/OXCZmadt7O pic.twitter.com/xC36WiEtkD — Daily Mail Celebrity (@DailyMailCeleb) July 10, 2016 So, all is well in Tiddlesville. In fact, things are going so well in their nearly month-old relationship that Taylor is already thinking about Tiddlebabies and Tiddlematrimony. Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston’s relationship appears to be moving forward even faster than originally thought. Less than a month after they made their romance public, the 26-year-old pop star sees the 35-year-old Thor actor as husband material and the two have also talked about their desire to have kids one day, a source told E! News exclusively Sunday. “This is the kind of a man she would want to marry,” the source said. “She has said he would make a great dad. They have talked about what they want in the future and kids are something that they would both like down the line. They have very real and serious conversations about life.” Swift, the source added, likes Hiddleston’s “English ways…She has told me that she loves his accent and thinks he is so sexy. He acts very English. He is also a big tea drinker.” Another source told E! News Swift “loves traveling with Tom,” who “makes her feel so safe…They are the real deal. They laugh and travel well together. These past few weeks, they have learned many things about each other…she is getting very attached. Tom gives Tay more attention than any other man she has ever been with. She likes his maturity. He…is a very romantic and charming gentleman.” An insider had told E! News after Swift’s Fourth of July party the singer’s “squad” of female friends “all really like Tom and like how he treats Taylor” and that while “things are moving fast between them,” her friends are not worried “because they never have seen her this happy.” “Tay can’t stop talking about Tom,” the second source told E! News Sunday. “It’s an ongoing conversation with the girls on how happy she is. Tay has mentioned numerous times how ‘in love’ with each other they are.” [From E! News] Of course she loves his “English ways.” He’s like the poster boy for a certain kind of posh Englishman, almost as if he was invented by Richard Curtis and Emma Thompson (although I bet Emma would love to tell Tom to take a seat right now). I love this though: “He acts very English. He is also a big tea drinker.” But what kind of tea, Tiddles? Anyway, I find it interesting that Team Swifty is leaking like a sieve. We’re getting multiple stories every week about how SHE loves him, how she’s impressed with him, how she can’t stop talking about him. Which is fine – that’s her brand. The “Tiddles” brand benefits her much more than him. But what is Tom getting out of it? Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.

Emily Blunt and John Krasinski Welcome Second Child!

Move over, America. You now need to share your birthday with the offspring of one of our favorite famous couples. Sort of. Indeed, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski just welcomed their second child into the world! She doesn’t have the same birthday as the United States, but the world has now been made known about her existence on July Fourth. That’s kind of the same thing. “What better way to celebrate the 4th… than to announce our 4th family member!!!” Krasinski Tweeted this morning, adding: “2 weeks ago we met our beautiful daughter Violet #Happy4th.” The Girl on the Train star and The Office alum are already parents to a girl named Hazel. It’s too early to tell how little Hazel is adjusting to life as a big sister, but this is what Blunt told E! News about the prospect back in April: “She’s sort of coming around to it. “She sort of dismissed the idea initially and she just responded with, ‘Nope.’ ‘Nope,’ flat out! We’ve bought her every single ‘I’m a big sister’ book that’s out there and she’s a bookworm, so she’s coming around.” Blunt and Krasinski got married in 2010. A rep for the stars confirmed that the latter was expecting baby number-two in January; about a month later, Blunt debuted her baby bump at the 2016 Academy Awards. “The first pregnancy is the most self-indulgent thing in the world because you get massages and prenatal yoga and hypnotherapy CDs,” Blunt told C Magazine this spring. How so? “During this one I forget that I’m even pregnant. I’m hoisting my 2-year-old around!” she explained. We send our very best wishes to two stars who appear to be as normal as any couple in Hollywood.  Welcome to the world, Violet! View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Welcomed Babies in 2016

Khloe Kardashian complains about tabloid sexism, ‘double standards’

Here is Khloe Kardashian’s cover editorial for Glamour Mexico, the July issue. Can’t say I’m a big fan on the dark lipstick on Khloe – it emphasizes the extent to which she’s jacked her lips. Khloe has said that this cover shoot reminded her that she wants to take out her extensions and have short hair again, which I think she should do – I really loved her lob from late last year, and I thought it was super-flattering on her. Meanwhile, Khloe went off on a long-winded tirade about the tabloid interest in her love life, which…yeah, not so much. I have some residual affection for Khloe because I think she’s “the smart one” out of her family, but this essay (on her subscription app) was just dumb. She loves it when we’re paying attention to her love life. She loves it when we’re paying attention to her in any way. “The most annoying thing about tabloid rumors is the double standard. If I’m ‘spotted’ hanging with a guy at a party – even if I’m just saying hi for a quick second – it immediately becomes a negative headline about how many guys I’m dating or how I’m getting into a new relationship. Men don’t get that reputation! They get a pat on the back. It irritates me.” “People have taken pictures of me and say they’re proof of something concrete. Pictures are just moments in time. They never show the whole truth. In Hollywood, you could go out on a first date and it could spiral into this huge thing. The headline the next day is ‘Khloé’s Getting Married!’ LOL. It’s so weird. That stuff definitely makes it difficult to take it slow and see how things go.” “I normally don’t comment on those stories, but if it gets out of control, I’ll speak up – especially because that kind of gossip affects how people see me. A guy could assume I’m dating someone and not approach me, when I’m actually single.” “Sometimes I completely avoid going out in public with a new guy because I don’t want to deal with the sexist headlines. Too much drama for me!” [From People] “I don’t want to deal with the sexist headlines…” that come from the storylines written by Keeping Up with the Kardashians writers. Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot of sexism in the tabloids and in tabloid-driven narratives. But hearing a Kardashian complain about her tabloid coverage is like listening to Taylor Swift complain about being perceived as twee and boy-crazy. You are the one driving the narrative!!! People Mag writer calls out celebrities & publicists in a hilarious resignation letter

Sara Hammel may be my new hero. Hammel was, up until recently, an award-winning entertainment journalist working for People Magazine. Hammel had been working for People Mag for 14 years as a freelance writer, and she had covered some really big entertainment stories, like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ Rome wedding. Well, after 14 years, she had enough. Enough of the celebrities, enough of their bats—t crazy publicists, and enough of the not-so-subtle changes with how People Magazine functions as an entertainment news source. So when Hammel resigned, she did so in a letter which is being called “bridge-burning” and “scorched earth.” And not only that, she made the letter public, so anyone can read it. Here you go: Dear People Magazine, I quit. It’s not me, it’s you. It’s been a wildly dysfunctional 14 years, and you’re an entirely different magazine than when we first got together. I swear half the current staff doesn’t know my name, despite my contribution to something like fifteen hundred stories in your celebrity annals, so here’s a refresher: I worked inside your London, Los Angeles and New York bureaus, covered breaking news in nine countries, and dealt with too many celebrities to remember (I know this because I was cruising through your archives recently and found my name on files I had no recollection of writing, and interviews with people I have no memory of meeting, like Ellen and Portia together, plus both leads in Nip/Tuck and that guy from Burn Notice). My first celebrity assignment for you was Spice Girl Geri Halliwell in 2002. My last was Robert De Niro in April 2016. In between, there were memorable encounters galore, including making the gorgeous and empathic Mariska Hargitay ugly-cry (turns out she cries at like every charity-related event, phew), enduring an Oscar winner’s public bullying over an intimate dinner, facing a personal crisis at Tom Cruise’s wedding in Rome, getting basically, kind of spat on by a snotty J. Lo (okay, it was like a very wet pffttt in my general direction, really obnoxious), having fun with endless lower-key celebs like Rosario Dawson and Kyle MacLachlan and Michael Douglas, observing just how stiff and awkward George Clooney is around kids, insulting Sheryl Crow’s baby, and getting groped/harrassed by an A-list [omitted] performer in New York and Paris (that’s not to be flip—it was violating as hell. I’m still pissed I didn’t jab him in the balls with my pen). This is just what the entitled stars and their bat—t crazy publicists put me and many other talented, hard-working reporters through. You people, as it turns out, are worse. Stupidly, we expect loyalty and support from you after years of service. We are naïve. Despite your nicey nice, glossy and chirpy veneer, some of us think of you more as the Leo DiCaprio of magazines, using up every beautiful model that crosses your path (“beautiful model”= “award-winning journalist” in this scenario), discarding them, and pretending you leave no wake behind you. I’m oddly surprised my tenure here is ending not with explosive hatred stoked by a cold dismissal from an insensate behemoth (i.e. you)—a fate I watched ashen-faced friends and colleagues endure before my eyes during the Los Angeles bureau’s 2008 culling—but with a slow fade-out and a final venting of my gossip-weary spleen. Then again, that’s why I’m happy being freelance. I’ve survived something like eight rounds of layoffs where talented colleagues were bitch-slapped into oblivion and, I hope, will never give their nights, weekends, relationships and sanity again to keep up with an email chain about whether Jennifer Aniston is pregnant at 47 because of those tummy photos and what kind of mom will she be, when really she just had an extra burrito at lunch; but oh, wait, the rep says it’s just a rumor so there’s no story this week after all. Read the rest in my mini-memoir. I will say, what happens after that is that my debut teen mystery, the one I spent my adult life making into a reality, but which, despite the schlock regularly featured in its pages and online, People decided to ignore—more to the point, they ignored me entirely—even after I toiled away for them for 14 years. They wouldn’t even give me a digital post that I wrote, sourced, and agreed to remove the name of my book from (LOL). That book is called The Underdogs. I’ll leave you with the kicker: As I was crafting this letter, a Tweet came through from one of your top editors, Kate Coyne, crowing about her full-page People feature promoting her brand-new book, accompanied by a colorful screenshot. “Don’t ask how, but I got in touch with someone at @people—now I’m in the new issue. So grateful!” You should be, Kate. Enjoy it while it lasts. Sincerely, Sara Hammel [Letter via the NY Post] That’s some good dirt! I want to know the identities of those two blind items: who is A) the Oscar winner who publicly bullied Hammel over an intimate dinner and B) the A-lister who groped and harassed her? I love all of the named shade too – while I love J.Lo, I have no doubt that she’s spat/phlegm’d on reporters. And I think the whole idea of Clooney being really awkward around children is HILARIOUS. Granted, I’m awkward with kids too, but I’m not George Clooney! As for the email chains about Jennifer Aniston’s burrito baby… that’s a very “how the sausage is made” story about editorial decisions, isn’t it? That People Mag reporters are email-chaining about Aniston possibly being pregnant at 47 is… sad, I think. Covers courtesy of People Magazine.

Taylor Swift ‘feels completely free to be herself’ when she’s with Hiddles

At this point, I’ve lost count of how many media outlets are openly questioning Tiddles. If Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift wanted their new love to look authentic and realistic, they’ve done a terrible job. If their relationship is supposed to be the biggest conspiracy of the summer (nay, the year!), then they’ve succeeded. E! News keeps running pieces about how and why Tiddles is all for show. Multiple outlets keep claiming that Tom is just doing all of this to campaign for James Bond, which makes zero sense. And now there are reports that Tiddles is taking a short breather, than Taylor has flown back to America and Tom is laying low in London. But as I asked yesterday, will they reunite for the Fourth of July? Taylor loves to host big Independence Day parties and post all of the photos to social media. Speaking of social media, Taylor and Tom have been mostly absent from their social media accounts since their love-bomb. Will this holiday weekend bring the first Tiddles-on-Instagram photos? God, I hope so. I hope Hiddles gets in the swan float. PLEASE??? What else? A million bulls—t stories, honestly. The Sun claims that Tom is now “in the running” to replace Calvin Harris as the bulge of Armani underwear. That’s following Tom’s sad W Magazine editorial? Yikes. Of course, other dudes on the shortlist include Joe Jonas (??), Chris Pine and Liam Hemsworth. If Tom ends up with an Armani contract, I will laugh and laugh. Hollywood Life also claimed that Taylor is currently writing songs about how she’s never felt love like this before. A source tells Hollywood Life: “When she’s with Tom, she feels completely free to be herself and doesn’t feel like she has to hold anything back. Tom really encourages her to be as authentic and as true to herself as possible. She feels like he really values her feelings and her opinions. He’s incredibly supportive and she feels more confident within herself. She now wants to take that same confidence and apply it to her music and to her songwriting. With Tom, she feels like she can do anything, that anything is possible. She’s never felt this way before with anyone. She’s on cloud nine.” [From Hollywood Life] Of course she’s on cloud nine… for now. Soon enough, it will be all tears and accusations and real-estate-stalking. But this story brings me to another point: can Taylor Swift write music about being happy and in love, or is she like Adele in that her best songs are about being heartbroken? What does Taylor Swift’s Love Album sound like? Who even knows? As for the LOVE, the NYDN’s horoscope person analyzed Tom and Taylor’s signs and found that they’re actually well-matched. Tay’s a Sagittarian and Tom’s an Aquarian, which means “they are career focused, but what’s fabulous for these two is that they have a mutual respect for each other’s goals, and the difference they want to make in the world through their careers.” LOL. Meaning their love will last as long as it takes to mutually further their careers. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.
