Fox News: Donald Trump has an ‘extreme, sick obsession’ with Megyn Kelly

It’s been said before, but it’s worth repeating: Megyn Kelly is Donald Trump’s “type.” She’s blonde and beautiful, she’s intelligent, she’s got a hard, conservative edge and even she admits that he spent years trying to “woo” her. She told Vanity Fair a few months ago that Trump would send press clippings to her (press clippings about her) and sign them “Donald Trump.” My belief is that Trump’s raging hate-on for Megyn these days is mostly the hate-on some men have for women who have spurned their advances. Like, when he’s trying to woo you, you are the most beautiful, magical creature and as soon as you tell him you’re not interested (or that you’re both married to other people), suddenly he’s calling you a crazy bitch and/or a flighty bimbo, and you’re definitely on the rag. As I mentioned last week, Trump has renewed his attacks on Megyn Kelly. He has been tweeting a lot about how no one should watch “crazy Megyn” and her Fox News show. He tweeted: “Everybody should boycott the @megynkelly show. Never worth watching. Always a hit on Trump! She is sick, & the most overrated person on tv.” And more. At this point, he’s the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, so it does seem… I don’t know? Petty? Misogynistic? Idiotic? All of the above? But I always think he sounds that way. But what was interesting is that Fox News is finally getting serious about defending one of their big talents. They issued a statement about Trump’s tweets, saying: “Donald Trump’s vitriolic attacks against Megan Kelly and his extreme, sick obsession with her is beneath the dignity of a presidential candidate who wants to occupy the highest office in the land,” Fox News said in a statement. “Megan is an exemplary journalist and one of the leading anchors in America — we’re extremely proud of her phenomenal work and continue to fully support her throughout every day of Trump’s endless barrage of crude and sexist verbal assaults.” [From Us Weekly] It feels like we’re through the looking glass, doesn’t it? I mean… I can’t remember a time when a political candidate running for the highest office in the land had to be publicly slammed by a cable news network for the misogynistic crap he was tweeting about a major news show anchor. And yes, I never thought I would write this, but: Fox News is right. Trump has an extreme, sick obsession with Megyn Kelly. And it feels like a creepy dude at a bar is mad at Megyn because she spurned his advances. Crazy @megynkelly says I don't (won't) go on her show and she still gets good ratings. But almost all of her shows are negative hits on me! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 19, 2016 If crazy @megynkelly didn't cover me so much on her terrible show, her ratings would totally tank. She is so average in so many ways! — Donald J. Ingrid Seward: William & Kate are ‘a rich, increasingly spoiled couple’

Ingrid Seward is a prominent royal writer, biographer and editor in the UK. She’s often called in by American publications to explain royal traditions or provide sugary quotes about the greatness of the Queen, the Prince of Wales or the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Like, People Magazine interviews her all the time and often throws in some of her quotes in pieces about the Cambridges. She’s known as a more conservative and pro-monarchy royal writer. So this is sort of amazing – Ingrid Seward wrote a column in the Mail on Sunday about the Cambridges’ janky media strategy and just what a boneheaded idea it was for Kate to skip out on the Irish Guards on St. Patrick’s Day. If even Seward feels bold enough to issue a public smackdown, you know there are issues. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights: Missing out on the Irish Guards ceremony on St. Patrick’s Day: “So unthinking were her advisers in Kensington Palace that when a row about her absence erupted they replied that she’d simply gone home to Norfolk to be with her children. For Kate to miss an opportunity to honour the Armed Forces with such a lame excuse shows a distinct lack of understanding. If she wants to be thought of as a modern princess who will go the extra mile for the brave soldiers she represents through her charities, she should have been there at their new barracks at Hounslow, not at home in Anmer Hall. It somehow made the covenant between Royals and the military look as if it didn’t matter.” Seward blames bad advisors: “The Duchess’s advisers should have stopped to think how pitiful an excuse it looked to soldiers who have been divided from their families for months on operational tours since British Forces became engaged in the War on Terror in 2003. But they clearly did not. Sadly, for William and Kate, who could do no wrong at the time of their marriage in April 2011, it’s another unnecessary mistake.” William gets slammed too: “Last month the Duke failed to show up at the Baftas for the second year running. He is the Academy’s president, so it’s as if the cream of British cinema and a clutch of Hollywood A-listers had been stood up by their host. Again….Prince William said recently that the growing criticism of himself and his wife ‘came with the territory’. But it doesn’t have to. If he did not appear to be chafing quite so much at his Royal responsibilities and was more accepting of the affection on offer from the millions who will one day be his subjects, he could be forgiven a lot.” Instead of being friendly to British media, William is courting foreign media: “Prince William seems to be impervious to this idea. Instead he has begun to groom foreign media who give him the same platitudinous message that they give various celebrities. While holding the British press at arm’s length, the younger members of the Royal Family are giving cuddly, banal interviews to favoured publications and American TV networks.” Surrounded by privilege: “When William and Kate first married they insisted they didn’t want to be hidden in the ivory tower of royalty. They wanted to be with the people doing what they did, not surrounded by riches and privilege. Now they are doing just that. Of course they will one day be anointed King and Queen, and they will need their people behind them. Courting favour overseas won’t work and nor will ignoring public opinion at home.” The spoiled couple: “They may have been thrilled by their own cleverness at having a secret four-day ski break in Courchevel earlier this month but where they see an entitlement to privacy, the public see a rich, increasingly spoiled couple growing surprisingly distant.” [From The Daily Mail] The rest of Seward’s piece is a comparison of the Cambridges to the older royals, with Seward even saying that the Duchess of Cornwall understands the royal role so much better than William and Kate. Charles gets compliments as well for always putting duty first, for working so hard, etc. As I said, if someone like Seward is throwing down some heavy criticism of William and Kate, you know it’s bad. You know what I’m starting to wonder? I’m quietly developing a theory that all of this criticism might work in William’s favor in one particular way – he’ll use this as an excuse to quit his part-time EAAA job, which clearly already bores him to tears. He’ll say he has to quit the EAAA because something something criticism and his royal role. Then he’ll be on to a new scheme to avoid royal work. Oh, and the Sunday Express ran an interesting piece about Kate skipping out on the Irish Guards too – go here to read. Apparently, Kensington Palace is now claiming that they informed the Irish Guards “months” ago that Kate would not be handing out shamrocks this year. And somehow she knew months ago that she would need that day to prioritize her children? It’s a weird explanation. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet and WENN.

Melissa McCarthy on her weight loss: ‘No trick, just super boring life’

Melissa McCarthy is promoting her new movie The Boss, which opens April 8. As I have mentioned, I am a big fan of Melissa since falling in love with her on Gilmore Girls. Of her movies, however, Spy is just about the only one I enjoyed. I am cautiously optimistic about The Boss though. If the trailers are to be believed, her character, Michelle Darnell, is a competent businessperson and the joke has nothing to do with weight. Her character Sookie’s weight on Gilmore Girls was never a joke; it wasn’t until she went mainstream Hollywood that her weight was brought front and center. Now that Melissa has lost 50 pounds (brava to her) her weight is an even bigger focus and everyone wants to know her secret. According to Melissa, the secret isn’t that sexy: Actress Melissa McCarthy channels a foul-mouthed, over-the-top Martha Stewart caricature in her new movie “The Boss,” but it is her personal transformation that has everyone talking. The 45-year-old actress looked incredible at a press junket for the film. She lost a reported 50 pounds, and revealed there is no big secret to her weight loss. She told “Extra’s” Charissa Thompson it is actually her lifestyle that contributed to the change. “No trick, nothing to tell, just super boring life. You bring it real down, you don’t do anything fun and you go to bed at 7:30 — that’s the trick.” She went on to say her husband, Ben Falcone, will ask, “Is it five and are you in jammies?” to which she responds, “I’m gonna call them loungewear.” [From Extra TV] Melissa is accepting compliments graciously but shies away from any real weight-loss discussion. I can appreciate her position as she has often emphasized that weight doesn’t really matter to her. She told Rolling Stone, in 2014, “I could eat healthier, I could drink less. I should be learning another language and working out more, but I’m just always saying, ‘Ah, I could get hit by a bus tomorrow.” I get the sense that she does not want to be another celebrity who loses weight and all of a sudden the only thing that matters is weight loss. Melissa is wearing her Seven7 clothing line during this press junket. I really liked a few pieces from her Holiday Line, but I think she does bottoms better than tops. The line is doing well, however, and Melissa continues to put emphasis on it being an all-inclusive line, joining the voices wishing to dismiss “plus-size” as a descriptor. LeAnn Rimes wore tiny shorts to her step-son’s game: inappropriate or fine?

We can go months without talking about LeAnn Rimes, and for that, I’m grateful. But spring is here and summer is on the way, which means LeAnn has emailed her step-sons’ Little League and soccer schedules to the paparazzi so they can get plenty of photos of her in short-shorts, posing as the Best Step-Mom Ever. These are photos from this weekend, where LeAnn and Eddie were attending one of the kids’ soccer games. Of course LeAnn wore shorty-shorts and a low-cut sweater. Everything is all about LeAnn, always! We haven’t really talked about LeAnn in more than a month, and even then, it wasn’t really because LeAnn was doing something new. In February, Dean Sheremet was promoting his cookbook, and he ended up talking about LeAnn a bit in interviews and the book. LeAnn’s lawyers sent Dean a threatening letter about it, but I don’t know if anything came out of it. I mean, Dean still promoted his book and we haven’t heard anything about LeAnn actually suing him, so maybe she dropped the issue. Which is so unlike her. What else? She’s still posting a lot of stuff on social media, but she’s been somewhat quiet and un-newsworthy lately. Usually if we get a few months of quiet, that means something big is coming down the pipeline. We’ll see! Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.

Beatrice Casiraghi wore Giambattista Valli to the Rose Ball: amazing or tragic?

The Grimaldis celebrated one of their biggest annual events over the weekend. Every year, Prince Albert hosts the Rose Ball, a huge fundraiser for the Princess Grace Foundation, one of the Grimaldis’ big charitable organizations. The Rose Ball is a huge deal. So is it weird that Princess Charlene didn’t come out for it? I’ve been saying that Charlene and Albert seem a lot stronger now that they’ve got an heir and a spare (Gabrielle and Jacques), but it also feels like Charlene skips out on a lot of stuff now that she’s got the babies as an excuse to not be around. So, at this year’s Rose Ball, Albert’s sister Princess Caroline acted as hostess, and her children came out. Andrea and his wife Tatiana were there, as were the rest of her kids: Pierre Casiraghi and his new wife Beatrice, Charlotte Casiraghi (who was also missing her partner, Gad), and Princess Alexandra of Hanover, who is Caroline’s youngest child, the only child Caroline had with Ernst August of Hanover. Caroline and Ernst are pretty much separated full time – I don’t think he’s ever in Monaco, and he seems to live with a succession of mistresses all around the world. Just FYI. As for the fashion, Caroline, Charlotte and Alexandra all wore Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld is particularly close to the Grimaldis, and he often dresses the royal women. I personally like that Charlotte went with a caped pantsuit, it looks daring and modern on her, although the silk satin is slightly budget for Chanel. The big show-stopped look came from Beatrice Casiraghi, who married Pierre last summer in a lavish, multi-nation extravaganza. Beatrice is Italian, so she chose to wear an Italian designer: Giambattista Valli. Her gown with big, frothy and red. I actually like the big-ball-gown look, and my only real qualm is that with all of that old-money and glamour, her wispy bangs still look kind of awful. Photos courtesy of Pacific Coast News.

Willow Smith, 15, is Chanel’s latest brand ambassador: great choice or meh?

Back in 2010, Jada and Will Smith seemed hellbent on forcing their kids to act like adults and have adult-sized careers. Willow began a music career, and Jaden began an acting career. While Jaden has continued with his public life, Willow has spent much of the past five years or so taking a step back. Reportedly, she was the one to tell her dad that she just “wanted to be a kid” for a while rather than a celebrity/singer/model/whatever. Well, now at the tender age of 15, Willow is re-entering public life. These photos are of Willow and Jada at the Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week this week. Willow and Jada were invited to sit front-row at the show because Willow is now the newest face of Chanel, as she has just been named the latest “brand ambassador” for 2016. Willow joins a long list of famous Chanel brand ambassadors, including at various times Blake Lively, Gig Hadid, Lily-Rose Depp, Kendal Jenner, Cara Delevingne, etc. I actually think it’s smart to start diversifying the ambassadors these days, so at least there’s that. The Chanel press release simply read: “Karl Lagerfeld has chosen Willow Smith as a new CHANEL ambassadress.” Personally, I don’t hate it (but I don’t love it either). It’s not as offensive to me as Jaden Smith being hired to front a campaign for Louis Vuitton womenswear, mostly because I am unclear as to whether Willow will actually be doing print ads for Chanel. I think brand-ambassadors just have to wear Chanel to big events and go to like two runway shows a year. But if Willow’s growth spurt tells us anything, it’s that she might make modeling her newest career. Incidentally, Willow is wearing a Chanel catsuit/wetsuit in these photos. She looks like a superhero! I absolutely loathe the shoes and the eye makeup though. Photos courtesy of Fame/Flynet.

John Goodman’s Kristen Wiig story: was she rude to him or was he rude to her?

John Goodman sat down with Howard Stern this week to promote his new movie, 10 Cloverfield Lane. We rarely talk about Goodman, not because we dislike him or anything, but because he usually isn’t much of a newsmaker. He works all the time, people love him, he seems like a really normal person. There’s no real scandal, you know? Even Rosanne Barr loves him, and she hates almost everyone. While chatting with Stern, Goodman talked about New Orleans, drinking, SNL, weight loss (he’s lost a lot of weight in the past year, after he gained weight back from his 2010 weight loss) and more. The biggest headline is probably the Kristen Wiig story though, and I still don’t know how to feel. Some highlights: He was so excited to meet Kristen Wiig, he interrupted her conversation: “She was talking to somebody else, and I was just – I think she’s so great, and the social barriers broke down and I interrupted the conversation. And I would just hate for somebody to do that to me. And she goes, ‘yeah, I’ll talk to you in a minute.’ [makes sound of bomb dropping] It was like the Atom. I shrunk down to Atom size. …I really like her, and it was embarrassing, so I’ll never speak to her again.” He’s sober now, but he used to drink at work: “I was drunk a couple of times during ‘[The Big] Lebowski,’ but that was way too many for me. That was something I swore to myself I would never do – drink at work. And then that – on Roseanne I started doing that.” Whether he avoided the Vietnam draft: “I got a lottery number of 30,” Goodman revealed, but said they didn’t ask him to serve because when he went into for his physical they marked him down as being too heavy for his height after recording his height incorrectly. “I would have been the big baby of the Army,” he admitted though. He loves Brie Larson, his ‘Kong: Skull Island’ costar: “She was so charismatic. She was like the only girl on set and every weekend she would organize stuff to do. We would look at kangaroos. She would organize a trip to an amusement park after it closed … Just stuff for people to do, because she’s nervous about people getting angry or getting on each other’s nerves.” On politics: “I keep it to myself and it will, you know, give me the cancer… I hate political ads. I hate seeing people … getting swept up into a mob mentality.” On Obama: “I just feel bad for Obama. As soon as he got into office they started kicking the s–t out of him. For no reason. … He could have a cancer cure and it’s like, ‘No, it’s not good enough.’” [From Howard Stern] The Kristen Wiig thing… I mean, I get it, she was in the middle of a conversation and God knows I hate it when people interrupt me or talk over me or anything like that. But still… it was John Goodman! The man is a national treasure! When John Goodman comes over and wants to fan-boy all over you, you hit pause on your conversation and talk to him, you know? It’s like… being interrupted by Tom Hanks or Jeff Bridges. You just let it happen because they’re awesome people. Photos courtesy of WENN.
