Ariel Winter: Boobs and Booze on Instagram!

Ariel Winter is gaining quite the following on Instagram these days, but we’re guessing her newfound popularity doesn’t have a whole lot to do with her acting skills… That’s a photo Ariel posted yesterday, and as you might’ve guessed, most of the comments are about two things. Yes, obviously we’re talking about the margaritas.  Ariel captioned the pic, “Legal frozen margarita with the sister.” She’s only 18 but she’s in Paris at the moment, so there’s no need to obsess over this photo, everyone! We kid, of course. The real reason this pic has racked up 56,000 likes is Ariel’s boobs. In the wake of her breast reduction surgery, the Modern Family star has been favoring a much more cleavagey look, and the Internet has responded the way it always responds to breasts. This one hasn’t gone as viral as the photo of Ariel in a low-cut dress on Easter Sunday, but don’t worry – the comments section is still filled with grown-ups having serious discussions about an 18-year-old girl’s boobs. Hey, if you’re a celebrity, creepy attention is better than no attention. Even if your show is a hit, it can be tough to make the jump from actress on an ensemble sitcom to household name. We’re guessing Ariel doesn’t mind getting a little help from her girls. View Slideshow: Ariel Winter: 22 Pics of Our Favorite Modern Family Star!

How much money is Duchess Kate spending on clothes for her 6-day tour?

In this post, I’m using photos of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge from their last big overseas trip, the Australian and New Zealand tour in 2014. I’m doing that because we’re going to talk about clothes, more specifically the clothes Kate will be wearing for the India-Bhutan tour, which doesn’t start until April 10. We still don’t know which designers Kate will be using for the tour, but several outlets are running previews and I guess we should start to get excited about Kate-in-a-sari. Do you think that will even happen? I would love to see her in a sari, but I think it’s far more likely that she would wear a British Indian designer, something with Indian flavor but very much a formal gown. You never know though, maybe Kate will whip out a sari. The Telegraph did a big story on what Kate will wear, but there isn’t much new info here. She’ll take 12-15 outfits for six days, she’ll have “daytime dresses and evening gowns” and hopefully at least one pair of jeggings, I’m assuming. Kate’s team – including her secretary Rebecca Deacon – did a “rehearsal trip” to India to scout locations, take photos and prepare the color story of what Kate will be wearing. Still, a royal source insists: “She is in charge of it herself and takes an interest in paying tribute to the host country with nods to their culture and local style on at least a few of the engagements. The important factor on this tour is the heat, so that’s an issue that plays a big part in the choice of outfits.” She’s likely “commissioned” some special pieces as well as looking for some stuff online. She will be traveling with Natasha Archer – who acts as her stylist (very poorly, I might add) – and Amanda Cook Tucker, who is her hairstylist/wiglet tamer. No one has any idea how much Kate is spending on clothes for this tour, but I think we can assumed that she’s easily spending $40,000 or more. Meanwhile, the Daily Mail’s gossip girl (The Girl About Town) had this interesting piece of news: The Duchess of Cambridge is to cement her title as the Queen of Norfolk by hosting a £10,000-a-head ultra-exclusive party for 80 members of the county’s high society. The lavish gala will be held at Houghton Hall, Palladian stately home of the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley, and a short drive from Kate and Wills’ Anmer Hall. Kate’s name features on the invitation and the party is in aid of the East Anglia Children’s Hospice, the charity of which Kate became a patron in 2012. Tickets start at £6,000 per head and those who pay £10,000 are invited to stay at Houghton with the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley after the party on June 22, ten days after the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations. The ball will include a champagne reception, a lecture by writer Anthony Horowitz, live jazz, a magician, and food by top chefs including Tom Kerridge. The event is another sign that Kate will host more charitable events after Her Majesty turns 90 and will be good practice for Kate the working Royal, with an impressive list of grandees attending the proceedings in Houghton’s marble-clad Stone Hall. [From The Daily Mail] Since I’m an Anglophile, I know that “Cholmondeley” is pronounced “chumly” for British reasons. While I always applaud the very idea of Kate going to work and raising money for charity, of course the only way they’re getting Kate out of the house is by getting her to attend a fancy party full of posh people. I understand that is the definition of modern charitable fundraising, so why is it like pulling teeth to get Kate to attend/co-host charity fundraisers? Also – will Kate and William ever open up Anmer Hall for a fundraiser? Why must the Marchioness of Cholmondeley open her home for Kate’s fundraiser? Photos courtesy of WENN, Fame/Flynet.

Leo DiCaprio throws shade at politicians who don’t believe in ‘modern science’

Here are some photos of Leonardo DiCaprio in Japan this week to promote the Japanese premiere of The Revenant. Japan usually gets films several months later than America and Europe, so this is no big deal. And Leo has a lot of Japanese fans, and many of them literally dressed up as bears to see him in Tokyo. During the press conference for the film, Leo was asked about one of his signature issues: the environment, or more specifically, the reality and politics of climate change. His answer was pretty pointed, even though he didn’t specifically name names. Fresh from his Oscar-winning role in “The Revenant,” Leonardo DiCaprio suggested Wednesday that his upcoming documentary on climate change could help raise awareness about a phenomenon that some US presidential candidates reject. DiCaprio said one of the collaborators for the film to be released before the November election was Fisher Stevens, a producer of the 2010 Oscar-winning documentary “The Cove” about dolphin-killing in the small Japanese town of Taiji. “We’ve been travelling around the world documenting climate change,” DiCaprio told a press conference in Tokyo, adding they visited China, India and the North Pole and South Pole. Though he did not offer any names, he said some candidates seeking the highest US office are falling short in their environmental attitudes. “We should not have a candidate who doesn’t believe in modern science to be leading our country,” he said. “Climate change is one of the most concerning issues facing all humanity and the United States needs to do its part.” Republican front-runner Donald Trump said last year he did not believe in climate change, while his key rival Ted Cruz has dismissed it as “pseudo-scientific theory”. [From AFP] While it seems like his statement is actually pretty obvious, and that the overwhelmingly majority of people would agree, it actually IS being treated as a controversy in the conservative media. Because they would disagree with the fundamental idea that the president of the United States should believe/know that climate change is real, that all of this is really happening. It is SCIENCE, despite what a handful of oil-and-gas “scientists” want to tell the GOP. That’s what I never understood about the GOP side of this argument – if they want to say that we shouldn’t do anything about climate change, then argue that point. Don’t make it into an argument about whether climate change is real, because yes, then you do sound anti-science. And dumb. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Beatrice Casiraghi wore Giambattista Valli to the Rose Ball: amazing or tragic?

The Grimaldis celebrated one of their biggest annual events over the weekend. Every year, Prince Albert hosts the Rose Ball, a huge fundraiser for the Princess Grace Foundation, one of the Grimaldis’ big charitable organizations. The Rose Ball is a huge deal. So is it weird that Princess Charlene didn’t come out for it? I’ve been saying that Charlene and Albert seem a lot stronger now that they’ve got an heir and a spare (Gabrielle and Jacques), but it also feels like Charlene skips out on a lot of stuff now that she’s got the babies as an excuse to not be around. So, at this year’s Rose Ball, Albert’s sister Princess Caroline acted as hostess, and her children came out. Andrea and his wife Tatiana were there, as were the rest of her kids: Pierre Casiraghi and his new wife Beatrice, Charlotte Casiraghi (who was also missing her partner, Gad), and Princess Alexandra of Hanover, who is Caroline’s youngest child, the only child Caroline had with Ernst August of Hanover. Caroline and Ernst are pretty much separated full time – I don’t think he’s ever in Monaco, and he seems to live with a succession of mistresses all around the world. Just FYI. As for the fashion, Caroline, Charlotte and Alexandra all wore Chanel. Karl Lagerfeld is particularly close to the Grimaldis, and he often dresses the royal women. I personally like that Charlotte went with a caped pantsuit, it looks daring and modern on her, although the silk satin is slightly budget for Chanel. The big show-stopped look came from Beatrice Casiraghi, who married Pierre last summer in a lavish, multi-nation extravaganza. Beatrice is Italian, so she chose to wear an Italian designer: Giambattista Valli. Her gown with big, frothy and red. I actually like the big-ball-gown look, and my only real qualm is that with all of that old-money and glamour, her wispy bangs still look kind of awful. Photos courtesy of Pacific Coast News.

Jessica Biel in Roland Mouret at the Spirit Awards: fabulous or fug?

The Independent Spirit Awards are usually pretty loose and come-as-you-are, which means you usually don’t get Fashion Girls just showing up for the hell of it. Like, that’s what the Vanity Fair Oscar party is for. So I’m not entirely sure why Jessica Biel came out for the Spirits – she presented, but was she even IN a film in 2015? Let me check… yeah, she was, but no one saw her sad 2015 films. Still, Biel came out and she tried to “win” the fashion show in this Roland Mouret dress. If I’m being honest, I kind of like this. I love the colors, and I love the low-key vibe. I just want to rework it a little bit. The skirt should be longer and the top part needs to be a touch tighter, and she shouldn’t have tried to match her eye makeup to the dress. Also, check out her shoes! Rachel McAdams in Solace. God, I want her to look amazing at the Oscars. While this, to me, doesn’t make it up to “amazing” status, it’s pretty good. I like that she went for something slightly different, and this is the most I’ve ever like this shade of pumpkin. I kind of think the dress would have been even better if the whole thing was that shade of cream though. Bel Powley in Mary Katrantzou Pre-Fall 2016. I like this, I just wish it was fully lined. Right? I have a strange affection for laser-cut leather, but this needed a built-in nude slip. Idris Elba. G—damn this man can wear a suit. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Alicia Silverstone in Christian Siriano at Women in Film: lovely or weird?

These are more photos from the Women in Film event (Kaiser covered the other attendees here), which was held last night in LA. They were calling for diversity in film and wage equality for women, as they do annually at this event. It was hosted by the Women in Film president, producer Cathy Schulman (Crash.) I’ll just be covering some of the more questionably dressed women. First off is Alicia Silverstone, who is 39 years old but somehow manages to look 20-something. This scoop neck spaghetti strap bronze metallic Christian Siriano dress is making her look much younger too. This is a very young-looking dress, I think it’s the simple empire cut, but her styling is perfection. Here’s Kate Walsh in a simple v-neck black dress that somehow manages to look like a power suit. That dress is cool, I would wear that, and I like the skinny belt but she paired it with fishnet stockings and high boots. When you look at her makeup though – what was she thinking? She’s got like bright purple eyeshadow on both her lids and under her eyes with thick heavy eyeliner, too much mascara and pink lips. If a makeup artist did this to me I would wipe it off and redo it myself. She looked much better the day before at the Cadillac pre-Oscar party in a contemporary wrap dress. Patricia Arquette was in a plain black and white combo with a white blouse under a half sleeve jacket with a tea length skirt. This look is just too boxy for my taste. She would look better with a fitted jacket and some tailoring. Lake Bell was in a very bizarre fishnet shirt with a bandeau bra underneath for modesty. She has on skintight pinstripe pants with too long split cuffs. This entire outfit looks like a reject from Project Runway. (Credit: my mom.) She does get points for pairing it with shoes that mimic the pattern in her top and carrying a practical purse. I always carry a big purse for all the crap I need to have with me at all times. Making A Murder filmmakers: ‘the [national] media are demonizing this man’

Embed from Getty Images Netflix’s controversial documentary series Making A Murderer continues to generate headlines and think pieces, most notably this excellent one from New Yorker magazine. At a panel discussing the series at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour on Sunday, film creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos addressed criticism that they painted a picture of Steven Avery that avoided mention of his violent past, including recently reported incidents of abuse against his ex-wife and ex-fiancee Jodi Stachowski, who told producers of Nancy Grace’s HLN show that he was a “monster”. Ricciardi responded to the critics by saying, “I think what we’re seeing now is actually history repeating itself. It’s now on a national scale that the media are demonizing this man in order to prove his guilt. What we did was we documented the Halbach case as it was unfolding. Whatever [allegations against Avery] you’re referencing now never came into that process at all. So it wasn’t relevant to our process. We looked at the history here.” At the panel discussion, Ricciardi also revealed that Steven Avery has not yet seen the documentary, saying, “He asked the warden and his social worker whether he would be able to see it and his request was denied. When we spoke to him recently, his focus was mainly on his case.” When asked if a sequel was on the horizon, Demos said, “This story is ongoing. These cases are open. But it’s real life. You don’t know what’s going to happen. So we are ready to follow these if there are significant developments. We will be there.” In other Making A Murderer news, Dean Strang, one of Avery’s defense lawyers, admitted during an appearance on CBS This Morning this past Friday that he has some doubts about the convict’s innocence. When asked if he felt his client could possibly be guilty he responded, “Sure, absolutely.” He then added, “And if it was OK to convict people on maybes, I wouldn’t be worried about this, but it’s not.” On the flip side, Strang said he was still not convinced of Avery’s guilt, stating, “I’m not at all convinced of his guilt, never have been.” It would be interesting to see how a sequel would handle all of the recent evidence, especially the details coming in about the vial of Avery’s blood that seemed to be the defense’s “smoking gun.” Photo credit: Getty Images, Netflix
