Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton debut their new duet: magic or tragic?

Reality TV and music’s current “cute couple,” Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, used the show that brought them together, The Voice, to debut their first of what I can assume will be many duets. “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” is from Blake’s upcoming album, If I’m Honest, which drops on May 20. If watching couples make goo-goo eyes at each other for 4 minutes makes you nauseous, I’d recommend you don’t watch the clip. If you are a fan of the couple or of love, give it a peek. Gwen’s hair looks amazing and the top of the gown is lovely – she loses me at the sheer part around her legs, as it makes the dress look unfinished. Blake’s looking pretty handsome though. As much of a cynic as I can be about the fleeting romances of celebrities, it really does appear that these two are smitten with each other. A photo posted by Gwen Stefani (@gwenstefani) on May 10, 2016 at 9:57am PDT So, the song is alright. It’s not terrible. Their voices blend together better than I would have thought, but Gwen definitely doesn’t have a voice for country. The version on Blake’s album is better than the live one, because of recording studio wizardry, but Gwake’s chemistry kind of sells the song in the clip. During the taping of the segment, Voice judge Pharrell Williams quipped “Aww, you guys look so cute,” but there didn’t appear to be much enthusiasm coming from the other judges. I do love how you don’t see one iota of excitement from Christina Aguilera and not much more than polite head nodding from Adam Levine. Gwen, being the social media maven she is, posted pictures of herself (with kudos to her stylists) before taking the stage on Instagram, as well as a cute pic of the couple sharing a pre-show smooch. @blakeshelton @nbcthevoice #goaheadandbreakmyheart tonight! Omg ❤️Gx A photo posted by Gwen Stefani (@gwenstefani) on May 9, 2016 at 11:18am PDT Backstage at the show’s taping, Blake told E! that he hopes the fans love the song because it “means so much” to he and Gwen. He added, “We were a little nervous at first as to how people would receive it, because it’s not written in a traditional way at all.” He went on to tell Extra: Originally, when I started the song, I was just, I was only trying to impress her, you know, just trying to write her a song to get her excited about me, and I sent her the song half-finished and she wrote the other half of the song, so it’s such a 50/50 emotionally-invested thing. [From Extra] I guess music is the grown-up equivalent to the old “Do you like me? Check ‘yes’ or ‘no’.” notes we used to pass around in school. I do have to admit that watching the clips of Blake, I never realized how downright charming he is. I kind of have a little crush on him now. I can see how Gwen fell for him. Voice showrunner Mark Burnett took some time away from promoting his upcoming remake of Ben Hur (WHY?) he produced to share his thoughts on the couple, telling ET, I was there in those dark moments because we were working together at the time, it was their private lives but it spills over. And then I said to Blake and Gwen, ‘Imagine in your darkest moments if someone showed you a videotape of right now, the love you have, wouldn’t it be great?’ And they’re both smiling. It would be great. They are so amazing, they’re amazing. [From Entertainment Tonight] Wow, this is turning into a love story for the ages, isn’t it? Move over Liz and Dick, make way for Gwake. I can’t wait for the Lifetime movie. Debuting the song on Monday’s show has already paid off, as the single is already at the top of the charts on iTunes, right behind Justine Timberlake’s obscenely catchy new single “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” The release of the single seemed to be news to Blake, who tweeted “It’s out? Yay!!!” after a fan sent him the link to the song. He also cluelessly replied to a fan who told him the song was trending with, “Awesome!!! What does that mean?!!!!” Awesome!!! What does that mean?!!!! https://t.co/19Zul903kf — Blake Shelton (@blakeshelton) May 9, 2016 As I’ve said before, I am happy for them. They make a cute couple. The song is alright, and hopefully it will bring Blake some new fans. I do hope that the hype surrounding the couple subsides a little bit because I think we all need a little “Gwake break.” Don’t you agree? Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop ‘sex toy guide’ is exactly what you would expect

Gwyneth Paltrow has been talking about sex a lot lately. Maybe it’s part of her new branding scheme: The Sexual, Sensual Goop In Her 40s. Maybe it’s a late reaction to her divorce. Maybe Brad Falchuk is giving it to her properly. Or maybe it’s a combination of all of the above. In any case, Gwyneth is not content to merely say (odd) words about sex in interviews. This week’s Goop-letter is the first-ever “Sex Issue.” Sex, Goop Style. The Low-Down on Goop’s Downtown. Becky with the Bad Straw Hair has sex. And she wants you to know about it. You can see the whole Goop site here. The Sex Issue features an article about an “erotic theater” in LA, because rich people can’t just watch p0rn in the comfort of their own homes anymore. There’s an article about “hormone free” technology to improving your sex life. There’s a Goopy article about whether or not your lube is toxic, and whether you should make your own lube at home. There’s an informative and interesting piece about sexual trauma and psychological scarring, and how that affects one’s sex life. But the piece that is getting the most attention is the Goop Sex Toy Guide. Because it wouldn’t be Goop if Gwyneth wasn’t recommending that you spend thousands of dollars on seasonal, artisanal vibrators. I’ll give Goop some credit – there are some affordable recommendations on her list, like a $69 feather toy, Ben Wa balls that only cost $25 and $10 “cleaning spray,” because nothing says romance like Windexing your beav. But because she’s Gwyneth, she has to remind you that only 24-carat gold touches her ‘gina: she is literally recommending a $15,000 24-carat gold dildo. There’s also a $535 whip, a $400 nipple-clamp necklace, and a $156 G-spot App. Yes, there’s an app for that. If you’re a peasant and can’t afford a gold dildo. Justin Bieber Gets FACE TATTOO, Fans Cry

When your blessed with a face as beautiful as Justin Bieber’s, why on earth would you want to mark it up with a self-inflicted, permanent scar? Your face is your money maker, Justin. Don’t you know that? No matter, because the singer just carved a new tattoo into his mug, just under his left eye. Luckily, it’s a small piece of art, unlike the monstrous face tat Zayn Malik showed off earlier this year (luckily, it wasn’t permanent). The Biebs reportedly got matching tattoos of a tiny cross with his good friend Joe Termini while they were in New York City earlier this week. Justin posted a dark, grainy selfie to Instagram in which you can see the new ink, although to me it looks more like a grain of wild rice. Not all his fans were thrilled with the new addition. “@justinbieber swear to god kid if you tattoo more of your beautiful face I quit,” wrote one fan. “This better be the only face tattoo you’ll ever get @justinbieber,” warned another. Beliebers recently breathed a sigh of relief after their idol got rid of his terribly unpopular dreadlocks, and now they’ve got this to deal with. However, the cross tattoo could be a sign that the pop star is in the midst of a religious awakening. Earlier this week, he shared a photo of a celestial nature to Instagram and gave a shout out to his homey God. “I am so lucky to share these moments with you, I am so glad God is able to move even when people are blind to it,” he wrote in the caption. “I am the one on that stage but I am nothing without a light shining through,” he continued. “I’m such an average, ordinary person that doesn’t deserve the praise. I believe it belongs to my God! Thank you God for showing up when we need you the most!” Justin also sports a cross tattoo on his chest and one of Jesus on his left calf. Vogue named Kanye West & Kim the ‘best dressed couple’ of the Met Gala

I felt guilty about admitting this yesterday, but I really enjoyed Kim Kardashian’s Balmain at the Met Gala. Like, out of all the Balmain gowns, I thought Kim’s was the best and most interesting. Does that mean that I thought Kim looked amazing? Eh. She looked better this year than in years past, but that’s not even the point. The point is that in 2016, Kim is one of those people we’re really excited to see, because everyone will have a really strong reaction to whatever she’s wearing. In just a few short years, Kim went from persona-non-grata in elite fashion communities to one of the most-discussed women at the biggest fashion events of the year. Page Six even had a piece about how Kim and her family “ruled” the Met Gala this year, and, according to one source, “they really work that room now…they really take it over. It’s like their party. Kim Kardashian went over really well. I gotta say, they worked the room the best. If you had to pick one group who ruled it, it was the Kardashians.” And that’s not all – Vogue Magazine (Vogue.com) named Kim and Kanye “the Met Gala’s Best-Dressed Couple.” I wouldn’t go that far, Vogue! I thought Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik were more interesting, although it was mostly Zayn, not Gigi. You can read Vogue’s write-up about Kimye here. Kanye read it too, and he even happily tweeted about it yesterday: I’m really excited to get our first best dressed at the met … This Gala is like the Grammys of style! pic.twitter.com/POCtXJUGzN — KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) May 3, 2016 He also tweeted out his thank-yous, like being named Best Dressed was an actual award and he was making an acceptance speech. He tweeted: “Thank you Anna for the invite thank you to the whole Vogue team… thank you Olivier for making 4 dresses for Kim to choose from which we chopped 2 in half… and thank you for turning my personal jean jacket into a couture piece… also to Kim’s hair and makeup Lorraine jewelry and the whole style squad at Balmain and the Yeezy team…. We just had fun with the “future” theme !!! It was a fun night all together …” [From Kanye’s Twitter] It’s sort of cute to me. This is Kanye at his most vulnerable, when he’s desperate to be accepted by the elite fashion people and tastemakers. Like, being called best-dressed by Vogue really, really means something to Yeezy. Iggy Azalea thinks she’s a victim of racism because she’s been called ‘Becky’

We are about to reach Peak Irony with Iggy Azalea, and I can’t help it… I am giggling the entire way through this. First, let’s do some backstory. When Beyonce dropped the lyric “you better call Becky with the good hair” on Saturday night during HBO’s Lemonade, the internet exploded. Most people understood the reference as I understood it: Beyonce was telling her husband to call one of his white side chicks. “Becky with the Good Hair” was, to me, simply a reference to a bland, basic white woman, or perhaps just a non-black woman. As it turns out, some people believe that “Becky” is slang with a more specific meaning, something about blow jays. Perhaps some people combine the two meanings to mean a white woman giving oral sex. Which brings me to Iggy Azalea. On Monday night, she was just sitting on Twitter, interacting with her fans, as one does. One of her “fans” called her a racist and that’s when Iggy sort of had a meltdown, because… she’s been the victim of racism too. Because people have called her Becky. First, she responded by tweeting: “girl BYE. do you know how many time ppl have called me BECKY? it didnt have any kind of positive intention behind it. dont start. generalizing ANY race by calling them one sterotypical name for said race. i personally dont think is very cool, the end.” To which she got some replies: @FameKillz_ the point is: no one likes to be called out their name or generalized. the end. — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) April 25, 2016 @rNicaRo I love you too, but something doesnt have to be in order for me to be uncomfortable with it. — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) April 26, 2016 Do you see the argument she’s making? She’s been a victim of racism too, people. She’s been maligned racially because people called her Becky. Iggy continued by tweeting other replies to other people, writing: “Those are my feelings about it because of the way the name has been directed towards me in real life…other people might not mind and that’s fine too, but i personally want to be called by my own name. don’t stress it…its clearly not okay for me to call any other race a generalized name (i agree)…but at the same time, you know its intention is “white” thats why you called me that… to be called a generalized name that gained popularity as a way to describe oral sex and then generally white women. no thanks. [From Iggy’s Twitter] So now outlets are running headlines like “Iggy Azalea slams Beyonce for racism!” And “Iggy Azalea says ‘Becky’ is racist!” I will say that if Iggy doesn’t want to be referred to as a Becky, she should not be. But I’ll also say that I think this might be a case of textbook white fragility, in that Iggy Azalea is a culturally appropriating, racially insensitive white Australian who honestly thinks she too is a victim of racism. For being called Becky. Photos courtesy of WENN, Fame/Flynet.

Jennifer Aniston throws shade on Manic Panic: ‘Pink & green hair could go away’

Jennifer Aniston gave yet another interview about economic policy, Brexit, international relations and the strength of Euro. Just kidding! She gave an interview about her hair. Aniston is currently promoting Mother’s Day, although you wouldn’t know it from this interview because she’s just shilling (endlessly) for Living Proof, the haircare company she partially owns. There is, I believe, a lot of junky non-science in here. Like, Aniston is about two seconds away from suggesting that women rub healing crystals on their split ends. Some highlights: Her new favorite haircare product: “The newest, coolest thing I’ve discovered from Living Proof and its scientific world is the Timeless Treatment. It’s a hair color protector. It goes on and looks like a cream conditioner, but you put it onto your hair from the roots down to the tip. You let it sit for five minutes and then shower and shampoo, which activates the product to seal and protect the color. Then you condition. The concept allows you to keep the richness of your color longer. It’s kind of amazing.” Don’t wash your hair with hot water: “Hot water is never good for your hair or skin, so I wash in warm water. It also depends on what day it is. If I’m working then I usually do wash it, because it has to have continuity, but if I’m not working I try to give my hair a break for as many days as possible. After the gym, if I have to be somewhere, I usually just throw some heat on it to dry the sweat and then do a little dry shampoo and a little Night Cap, and I’m fresh as a daisy. I can last a good three or four days without washing my hair, and all of this stuff just kind of keeps it fresh and alive and smelling great.” Her workout hairstyle: “I just wrap it up into whatever rubber band or clip I can find and it usually gets thrown on top of my head.” Her favorite hair trends: “I love a cut from afar, but I’m pretty classic and like to stick to what feels good for me. I don’t usually follow hair trends. I wish I could, but I always feel like I’m trying to be something I’m not. I love seeing these ’70s shags, though. They’re all super cute! And I always love a good highlighted head of hair.” Her least favorite hair trends: “Pink and green hair could go away. I don’t understand that to be honest, especially the green! Her hairstylist’s best advice: “His big advice is the less you mess with your hair, the better. Less is more, don’t touch it, don’t wash it every day, and just let it be. That way, it saves up your hair’s energy for when you have to go to work and be on camera and put it under the hot lights and driers and rollers. It’s really just about doing less and using good products to maintain its health.” [From Glamour] While some of this makes sense – and I’ve heard variations on it before – some of it just seems like someone who thinks way too much about her hair, to the point where she’s sort of talking nonsense. “It saves up your hair’s energy” doesn’t mean anything. If you want to argue that you shouldn’t overprocess your hair, fine. But you’re not “saving up your hair’s energy.” And I’ll never understand people who can go four days without washing their hair – especially if you’re going to the gym every other day or more! – but then again, I have really fine, oily hair. Here’s a weird profile shot of Jennifer at last week’s premiere – is she wearing a wiglet/hairpiece in the back??? After all of this hair talk, I still think she relies heavily on hairpieces and extensions. Photos courtesy of WENN.
