Lamar Odom: Intervention Staged By Family! NBA Star Peaces Out in a Hurry!

Desperate to help any way that they can, Lamar Odom’s family staged an intervention in New York City Friday night, according to reports. Suffice it to say, this did not go over well. In response to the former NBA star’s recent troubling behavior, his family decided to step in and try to get him the help he badly needs. A source quoted by Us Weekly confirms that the mediation took place on Friday night with several of Odom’s close family members. Lamar’s longtime partner Liza Morales, the two children she has with Lamar, his aunt JaNean Mercer, and several cousins were involved. Good for them for stepping up, but … it didn’t take. “Lamar was doing really bad and his family was going to stage an intervention on Friday,” the insider tells the celebrity news magazine. According to a separate report from Extra, the retired L.A. Lakers baller “was extremely surprised” by this and quickly “left the location.” Lamar Odom Learns to Walk Sad, since an intervention is desperately needed. Last fall, Odom overdosed and almost died in a Nevada brothel. He was in such rough shape that had to re-learn how to walk and speak (above). You’d think that would straighten him out. No. A drunk Odom was kicked off a flight from LAX to NYC earlier this month after he reportedly got so hammered that he vomited on the plane. Witnesses say the 36-year-old stopped at a bar in Santa Monica prior to heading to LAX, where he “got really angry and started getting drunk.” “It’s really sad,” the insider said, watching Odom spiral out of control and further into the abyss. “He was doing so well in his [rehab] programs.”  He was? Lamar Odom Crack Video This incident came on the heels of rumors that Lamar is back on crack – his drug of choice the first time he and Khloe Kardashian split. Khloe recently filed to divorce Lamar a second time. Shortly after the plane incident, her mom Kris Jenner said she was surprised by the news. “I don’t know what happened. It was a big surprise to me,” Jenner said. “All I can say is I want the very best for him. He’s like my son.” “He’s a part of my family and I adore him. He’s the greatest guy in the world and anybody that knows him will tell you the same thing.”  Odom has recently been spotted at numerous NYC strip clubs, having been kicked out of Khloe’s rental house, allegedly for drug use. What more is there to say at this point? Unless someone can get through to him, it feels inevitable that the same, sad pattern will continue. This is not going to end well.  View Slideshow: Lamar Odom: A Timeline of Tragedy

Eugenie Bouchard: Taylor Swift ‘portrays herself as the victim a lot’

Canadian tennis pro Eugenie “Genie” Bouchard is seen by many as one of the future stars of the game. She’s got “the look” of a tennis star – she’s blonde, adorable and bouncy, and she gives off a puppy-ish energy that is definitely endearing. She’s currently ranked 40th in the world, but many expect her to really step up to the plate in the coming years. And like so many youngsters (Genie is just 22 years old), she’s very in tune to pop culture. I mean, so is Serena Williams, but Genie is still so young, she’ll talk on the record about celebrity gossip in the middle of her press conferences. Case in point: Genie was playing the Citi Open this week in DC, and at her press conference on Wednesday, she was asked about the ongoing Kimye-Taylor Swift controversy. Genie has previously professed her love of all things Taylor Swift, and has even met Swift backstage at one of Swift’s concerts last year. But Genie is tired of Swifty’s perpetual-victim shtick. Oh, Genie! I heart you. Start around the 5:55-minute mark. A tennis star with a HUGE backhand directed at Taylor Swift — says she’s sick of the singer always portraying herself as the victim … just like she’s doing in the Kanye West feud. The tennis star is 22-year-old Eugenie Bouchard — who’s a huge pop culture fan — and was asked about the Taylor vs. Kanye situation after she was knocked out of the Citi Open this week. “This is probably the hardest question all day,” she said. “I love Taylor Swift and I went to her concert and I love her songs and everything, but I feel like sometimes she portrays herself as the victim a lot and she did this time around, and that she said she wasn’t aware of that specific line. The B.I.T.C.H line. But she heard the other line about having sex so, I’m like really, what’s the huge difference? You approved the thing where Kanye said he’d have sex with you, but you didn’t hear the time he said b****? Come on. It’s all the same thing for me. I think she just way overreacted. I think she just tried to get attention by saying she didn’t approve of that. But it’s the celeb world, and it’s just entertaining. It entertains me when I’m on my own in D.C.” [From TMZ and News.com] Dear Taylor Swift: when your core audience – white women in their teens and 20s – turns on you, it’s time to pack it up and go silent for a few months. No more emails to TMZ. No more implicit racism to People Magazine. No more words. Just drop it, take some time off, get a massage, go for a run and regroup. I mean, half of the #Taymerica squad won’t even publicly defend her!! And now her high-profile fans are saying that Tay is just acting like a thirsty liar with the Poor Innocent Blonde Child act. Melania Trump’s speechwriter falls on her sword for plagiarized RNC speech

Early Tuesday morning, some Trump campaign staffer had a full-fledged meltdown on MSNBC and threw a hissy fit about how Melania Trump’s plagiarized RNC speech was barely a one-day story. Not so much. Like so many scandals these days, the scandal absolutely could have been minimized into a one-day story if someone had simply stepped up in the first hours and said, “You know what, this was a bad move. We apologize, our bad.” It became a week-long story because the Trump campaign and other Republicans (Trump surrogates, mostly) couldn’t get their f—king stories straight. No one could come up with a plausible lie or, failing that, no one could properly sort out the blame for the plagiarism. I hope people are watching, because THIS is how Trump handles a minor crisis. Imagine how he would handle an actual crisis. Anyway, we now know who was responsible for the plagiarized text in Melania’s RNC speech. The first reports came out in the NYT on Wednesday morning, and by Wednesday afternoon, the story was confirmed: THE BALLERINA DID IT. I’m not joking. At first, Melania’s RNC speech was written by two long-time Republican speechwriters, Matthew Scully and John McConnell. It seems that Melania didn’t like the speech they wrote, so she approached one of her husband’s ghostwriters, a former ballerina-turned-ghostwriter named Meredith McIver. McIver largely discarded the first draft and she worked with Melania to make a more tailored speech. McIver came forward with a personal written statement distributed by the Trump campaign: My name is Meredith McIver and I’m an in-house staff writer at the Trump Organization. I am also a longtime friend and admirer of the Trump family. In working with Melania on her recent first lady speech, we discussed many people who inspired her and messages she wanted to share with the American people. A person she has always liked is Michelle Obama. Over the phone, she read me some passages from Mrs. Obama’s speech as examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech. I did not check Mrs. Obama’s speeches. This was my mistake and I feel terrible for the chaos I have caused Melania and the Trumps as well as to Mrs. Obama. No harm was meant.” Yesterday, I offered my resignation to Mr. Trump and the Trump family but they rejected it. Mr. Trump told me that people make innocent mistakes and we learn and grow from these experiences.” I asked to put out the statement because I did not like seeing the way this was distracting from Mr. Trump’s historic campaign for president and Melania’s beautiful message and presentation. I apologize for the confusion and hysteria my mistake has caused. Today, more than ever, I am honored to work for such a great family.” [Via The NYT] Once again, it sort of feels like the campaign is throwing Melania under the bus. The Trump Org. just distributed a statement saying that Melania was the one studying Michelle Obama’s speeches and telling her speechwriter which passages she wanted to copy! I can see how this is an honest mistake between Melania and Meredith, but there’s a larger problem: that no one in Trump’s campaign looked at Melania’s speech before she gave it, and no one thought to double-check it. Disorganized. Chaotic. Shambolic. Unprofessional. These are just some of the words that come to mind when thinking about this Republic National Convention. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Benji Madden: Cameron Diaz is ‘a modern day feminist’ who shares positivity

Embed from Getty Images Benji Madden has a new extensive interview in Newsweek for the 20th anniversary of his band, Good Charlotte (with his twin brother, Joel). Good Charlotte returned from a multi-year hiatus to release a new album last week. I’m not too familiar with Benji and apart from the fact that he seems to be genuinely in love with and supportive of his wife, Cameron Diaz, I don’t have a strong opinion about him. A quick glance at our archives reminds me that he’s dated several famous women including Paris Hilton and Holly Madison and apart from hearing about his other occasional hookups, I haven’t heard a bad word about him in the 10 years I’ve run this site. No scandals, no paparazzi beat-downs, no DUIs. That’s really saying something. So he seems like a serial monogamist and a standup guy. He’s also very supportive of Cameron, and they’ve each gushed about each other on their social media and to the press. That’s all background to this interview, which just impressed me with how wise and thoughtful he sounds. I mean I don’t agree with him about Cameron Diaz, but he comes across extremely well. On how the music industry can be hard on artists My brother and I feel blessed to have survived and still have loving, connected relationships with each other, with our wives, with our family. We feel like: “Hey, there are a lot of artists who might be able to use our experiences.” We’ve been able to withstand a lot of things in the industry because we had each other. We feel protective of other artists. This is not a business that is set up in favor of artists. It’s important for artists to value themselves—whatever that means. Everyone’s going to take that in a different way. If you don’t value yourself, you will be bought and sold. On the public’s obsession with celebrity I think it’s a very unhealthy trend that will eventually be broken when people realize how hollow it is for our minds, it’s very cancerous…it’s like fast food. Fast food companies are trending down, lots of places are going out of business. People figured out: “This is killing us, it’s f-king terrible.” The celebrity obsession is doing the same thing for our minds—it’s very hollow and I think that trend is going to break soon enough. On how Cameron uses her platform for good I’m extremely proud of what she uses her platform for. She just released The Longevity Book, and before that she had The Body Book [a lifestyle guide to diet and health], and she spent thousands of dollars doing all the research, to get information to share with women who don’t necessarily have the resources to get that information. She’s a modern day feminist—she wants to change the conversation that’s being had about women and ageing. With The Body Book, she wanted to share all this information she has gathered over the years with women so they can live happy, pain-free lives. I’m proud of her because of what a light she is in a world where it would be so much easier to use that stage to promote products. But she’s using that platform she has to share positivity. It’s been one of the most inspirational things in my life watching a woman be so courageous…she’s got so much integrity. I’m a lucky guy that I get to experience that. [From Newsweek] He talks a lot about the industry and about how music gets made and artists are managed, and I didn’t excerpt that as it’s not relevant but it’s worth a read. Benji wants to empower young artists to do it on their own and not get chewed up by the industry, which can be brutal. Getting back to Benji’s thoughts on Cameron, she tried. I covered a lot of the press she did for The Longevity Book and she made some misinformed statements about women and aging, but she tried and she meant well. She’s not an authority on health or aging but she used her platform to try to be. It’s true that she’s not just shilling products, and that’s something. Also, of course I disagree with Benji’s opinion that celebrity obsession is terrible for us. Using his same fast food analogy, you can go to McDonalds and get something to eat once in a while, you just balance your calories and get your nutrients from other meals. Just because you like to follow celebrity news doesn’t mean you’re not informed about more serious events or that you don’t care. Sometimes we need a diversion. Here’s a video that Cameron shared of Benji. She left this gushing caption about how proud she is of him, which seems to be mutual. One of my favorite things about being married, is how much pride I take in my husband @benjaminmadden… He makes me proud everyday.. One day it might be how generous and giving, another how gentle and thoughtful. Or when he is fiercely protective of the people he loves and cares about… And everyday single day I am so incredibly proud of his integrity as a human being.. But TODAY what I'm most proud of is his talent… his gift…. Today his band @goodcharlotteband released their first album in 6 years #YouthAuthority .. What makes me even more proud is that he has released it on his own independent label MDDN… And it is so damn GOOOOOOOOD… Its so full of love and hope and truth… about forging and holding onto love… I wish that everyone could write music to express their pain.. their fears… their hopes and dreams. Jamie Otis Shares Heartbreaking Message to Baby She Miscarried

Jamie Otis has shared an emotional message on Instagram… to her late baby. As previously reported, Otis and Doug Hehner (who met and got married on the reality series Married at First Sight) lost their first child due to a miscarriage last week. The tragic event took place just a few days after they went public with Jamie’s pregnancy. Soon afterward, Otis wrote a post on her official blog, trying to put the pain of this loss into words. “My heart is so heavy,” she wrote at the time. “There are no words to express the pain and sorrow associated with losing our baby Hehner.” On Saturday, meanwhile, Otis continued to mourn by posting a collage of the famous couple in happier times. She included with this photo a message to the late child himself. “Not a day goes by that I don’t wake up thinking of you, Baby Hehner,” Otis wrote. “I know I have to get back to ‘normal life’ but I just don’t know how to. Today daddy and I are going to pick out a perfect name for you. We love you so much. “I hope you’re bouncing on clouds and feeling loved all the way up in heaven. #ourangel #LoveYou #angelbaby.” One day earlier, as posted above, Otis also relayed a telling quote in honor of her baby. It read: “We never had the chance to play, to laugh, to rock, to wiggle. We long to hold you, touch you now and listen to you giggle.” Otis, who also appeared on The Bachelor a few years ago, now works as a nurse. She met Hehner on Season 1 of Married at First Sight and defied the odds by remaining happily married to him. The two then documented their life as a married couple on spinoff series titled Married at First Sight: The First Year. Doug grieved about his wife’s miscarriage in a touching Instagram post last Wednesday, July 13, writing on his social media account: “#BabyHehner even though you could only leave us with your footprints, you will forever remain in our hearts. “@jamieotis and I love you! Thank you everyone for your love and support.”

Calvin Harris believes Taylor Swift started up with Tom Hiddleston in February

This weekend, The Sun had an interesting and insider-y story on Taylor Swift, Tom Hiddleston and Calvin Harris. Think back for a moment to the glory days of early June. When Taylor and Calvin first split up, most of us gossip-watchers knew that there be would drama, because Tay and Calvin are equally petty and juvenile. But back then, did we know that it would get THIS bad? Did we know that Calvin and Taylor’s teams would be sniping back and forth at each other over whether Taylor cheated, etc? I don’t think anyone could have predicted this. The gist of this Sun piece is that Team Calvin says Taylor was likely screwing around with Tom for months before they went public. Team Taylor says Calvin was a sh—ty boyfriend anyway, so what does any of it matter? You can read the full piece here. Some highlights: Calvin is going for the jugular. Calvin’s history with Rita Ora is being used against him: Calvin did damage to Ora’s career after she cheated on him and they broke up, and now sources claim he’s doing the same thing with Swift. A source said Calvin felt “emasculated” and “It was a secret that she wrote the song. The secret came out and her rep confirmed it and that pissed him off. He went for the professional jugular with Rita Ora and it seems he’s doing the same again. The way he handled the split up with Rita and was angry about that was going for the professional jugular, and it seems he’s doing the same again. You don’t kill someone’s career. That’s one step too far. That killed her album, not letting her release any of the stuff they produced for it. It takes two years to put an album together, and then to be left with no tracks? Everyone’s saying, ‘Where’s the music from Rita?’ It’s not good.” Calvin wouldn’t attend the Grammys with Taylor. “There isn’t a better award you can get than a Grammy Album of the Year. It’s the ultimate accolade you can receive as a musician. If you’re the kind of guy who doesn’t want to stand by your woman on an important night like that then you’ll also be the kind of guy that gets a bit pissed off when your woman’s getting toasted for the biggest track of your career for the past five years. Taylor was furious and hated the way he never wanted to attend award shows and big music industry events with her. It was a Sunday night in LA and she felt he could have slipped away for a couple of hours to be with her.” Tiddles was happening in February? The Sun’s sources claim Calvin Harris believes that Taylor met Tom back in February and they were sort of carrying on for months behind Calvin’s back. Calvin is also pissed that Taylor only spent one day taking care of him in May following his car accident on May 20. A source says: “Taylor’s true colours are coming out. The truth is she met Tom in February and things are moving very quickly. She had vacated her relationship with Calvin way before she let on.” Calvin won’t be played by Swifty. “Calvin only tweeted to defend himself. He has been nothing but lovely to Taylor, even publicly wishing her well, despite her fast romance with Tom. He was angry because Taylor had made it sound like he had been trying to hide her input on the song — when it was her who insisted they kept her writing secret all along.”. [From The Sun] Before a flame war starts flaming, let me just say that I think both sides (Team Calvin and Team Swifty) were well-represented in this piece, meaning that both Calvin and Taylor’s PR people and friends are engaging a thorough tit-for-tat. It’s not a case of “poor Taylor, Calvin is being so mean!” Nor is it “poor Calvin, Taylor is so powerful!” They’re both fighting. They both care. They both have an axe to grind. I do think the fact that Calvin didn’t come to the Grammys with Taylor was the beginning of the end for their relationship. I also think that there was overlap between the “the end of Calvin and Taylor” and “the beginning of Tiddles.” And as I keep saying… Calvin and Taylor are so well-matched, it really is a shame they couldn’t make it work. Donald Trump’s VP announcement for Mike Pence went exactly as expected

The gossip around Donald Trump’s VP announcement is probably the funniest and/or most terrifying thing you’ve heard this week. Donald Trump has had months to put together a shortlist of VP candidates, but I get the feeling that he and his people half-assed it until the last minute, threw together a list a few weeks ago, and then Trump just went with the guy he despised the least, which was Mike Pence, the governor of Indiana. Pence is a hardline conservative Republican with an appallingly terrible record – go here to see more about that. First, Trump told media outlets that he would announce his VP on Friday. Then he postponed the announcement just hours after the tragedy in Nice, France. Trump announced Pence with a tweet on Friday anyway. On Saturday morning, Trump and Pence made their big, formal joint event and announcement. More on that in a moment. Completely legit media outlets are reporting that Trump had buyer’s remorse almost as soon as he called Pence to tell him that he was the guy on Thursday night. Sources claim Trump was trying to get out of it almost immediately. Which led to this tweet: Look forward to introducing Governor Mike Pence (who has done a spectacular job in the great State of Indiana). My first choice from start! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 16, 2016 As many have pointed out, “My first choice from the start” is not something presidential candidates feel the need to say out loud if their VP choice really was the first choice. As in, don’t run if no one is chasing. As in, why bother lying about something like that? The Trump campaign also launched their new logo, which is absolutely obscene (and hilarious). the Trump-Pence logo looks like a forbidden sex act that Pence would definitely not be OK with pic.twitter.com/sZxVv3E32h — Matt Negrin (@MattNegrin) July 15, 2016 This logo accurately represents what Trump Pence will do to America. pic.twitter.com/HQisP8QVzb — Rep. Alan Grayson (@AlanGrayson) July 15, 2016 Breaking the mattress of America. pic.twitter.com/M4Cq62YS2c — Full Frontal (@FullFrontalSamB) July 15, 2016 About 24 hours after launching the Trump-penetration logo, the Trump campaign was already abandoning it. Amazing. And then we finally get to the big press conference on Saturday in New York. Mike Pence flew in to New York and it was going to be his big debut on the national stage. If only Donald Trump could have just stopped talking about himself long enough to properly introduce Pence. If only the introduction song playing before Trump came out wasn’t the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” I’m not even joking. Trump came out and talked about himself for a while, even saying at one point, “One of the big reasons I chose Mike is party unity, I have to be honest.” He didn’t choose Pence for the good of the country, or because Pence a strong leader who would be ready to take on the presidency on Day 1. Trump chose Pence for petty political-party reasons. Here’s the speech: Ezra Klein at Vox wrote one of the most scathing articles about this announcement – go here to read. Suddenly, it does feel like some in the media are starting to wake up from their dream-like state, realizing that this whole thing has become an utter nightmare. This whole VP-selection moment feels a lot like John McCain choosing Sarah Palin back in 2008. Not that Pence is Palin-esque (time will tell), but that Trump and his team half-assed one of the most important functions of a presidential campaign: to choose a competent, reasonable and thoroughly vetted vice presidential candidate. This is exactly what Trump will be like as president. When someone shows you who they are, believe them. Photos courtesy of WENN.
