Angelina Jolie will be a visiting professor at the London School of Economics

Angelina Jolie’s film career has been sidelined largely by her own choice for a while now, especially in the past year. After the terrible reviews of By the Sea, Angelina has spent months focusing on her humanitarian work. Brad is currently filming a movie with Marion Cotillard in England and all over Europe, and so Angelina and the kids have been calling London home for months. It’s been a good phase for Angelina, mostly because I think she really has just been focusing completely on humanitarian work. She’s set up a new advocacy partnership focusing on sexual crimes in conflict and war. She also gave an amazing speech at the BBC last week. And now this… Dame Saint Angelina is now Professor Dame Saint Angelina. Angelina Jolie Pitt is taking her passion for women’s rights and gender equality to the classroom. The actress, 40, is set to join the London School of Economics as a visiting professor for the new masters course on women, peace and security for the 2016-2017 school year. As a visiting professor, Jolie Pitt will deliver guest lectures, participate in workshop and public events, and continue research on projects. “I am very encouraged by the creation of this master’s programme. I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance women’s rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict,” Jolie Pitt said in a statement. “I am looking forward to teaching and to learning from the students as well as to sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations.” The course, which is the first of its kind internationally, was launched last year by Jolie Pitt and Britain’s former foreign secretary, William Hauge – who will also serve as a visiting professor. The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security Ambassador Melanne Verveer said they, too, are looking forward to bringing the program to the stateside campus. “I was pleased to meet with Angelina Jolie during my recent trip to London on ways we at Georgetown University can continue the collaboration between our sister programs on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Verveer. “We look forward to welcoming Angelina and former foreign secretary Hague to Georgetown in the future.” [From People] I would have loved to take a class with a Professor Jolie. The class seems tailored to her expertise too, and the LSE is also where Jolie and William Hague founded the Centre on Women, Peace and Security last year. My guess is that Jolie’s professorship will be part of the new center/program. Can you even imagine being a masters student and having Angelina Jolie walk into the classroom? Can you imagine having her as an adviser? Or participating in small workshops with her? Those students are so lucky. Photos courtesy of Pacific Coast News.

Blake Shelton claims Gwen Stefani ‘saved my life’: sweet or melodramatic?

Well, I hoped for a “Gwake Break,” but it doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon, as the couple have continued to ride the publicity train for their new duet. Blake taped an interview for CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown. He told the show’s host, Katie Cook, that the staggering number of views on his debut performance of “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” with Gwen Stefani on The View is due to the “media craze around us being together.” I think a lot of it had more to do with people’s curiosity to hear the California-born ska/rocker sing with the country crooner than anything else. Blake also had this to say about his new relationship: “It’s not something anybody could’ve seen coming besides God I guess because it doesn’t look like it would make sense. All I can tell you is that it does. It just makes the most perfect sense for us and where we’re at in our lives. I tell people all the time, ‘Gwen saved my life last year.’ She did. I think she’d tell you something similar about me.” “This thing just happened because of some things we were going through. Even coming into [her] second season [working on] The Voice, I didn’t even really know her that well. All of a sudden this thing just happened because of some things we were going through and it saved my life, period.” [From CMT/E!] Wow. Chart-topping country hits, a successful TV show, adoring fans, but it’s Gwen who “saved his life?” That’s kind of a bold statement. I guess Blake is starting to run out of talking points – which he should by now. Blake continued to talk about his relationship on Thursday’s TODAY, saying out loud what a lot of people were thinking when he got together with Gwen. It’s a little weird. We could not be, on paper, any more different. I mean, I’m a country singer and she’s a ska, rock, pop, whatever it is…and it’s just an odd idea. But man, it’s a lot of fun. I’ve gotta be honest about that. [From TODAY/US] As he mentioned backstage after the song’s debut, Blake again told CMT (and TODAY…sheesh) that he wrote the song mainly to woo Gwen and was relieved that she liked it so much. Gwen admitted on an appearance on Chelsea Handler’s talk show on Wednesday that her biggest fear about the tune was, as she put it, “Whoa what if I don’t like it, huge turn off!” Fortunately for Gwake, that wasn’t the case. Gwen went on to say, “I listened to it and thought ‘Oh my God, I love this.’” I love @chelseahandler Gx A photo posted by Gwen Stefani (@gwenstefani) on May 17, 2016 at 1:53pm PDT Yes, Blake is all kinds of charming in his “aww, shucks” kind of way and Gwen is still pretty cool…and if it’s not a publicity stunt (which I hope it isn’t) I remain happy for them. But please you two, give it a rest already. We get it, you’re both over the moon about each other and your duet was well-received. I just think when you talk about your relationship this much, something about it just comes off as a touch of “trying too hard-itis.” Or is it just me? Larry David thinks white people only pretend to like ‘Hamilton’ to be ‘hip’

I’m going back and forth about whether I think these Larry David quotes are offensive. Larry David was doing an interview with the Mike Lupica Show this week, and he was asked about the smash Broadway musical Hamilton. Hamilton has been a phenomenon for more than a year, it’s pulled in tens of millions of dollars in ticket sales, and Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has won a Pulitzer and a Peabody, plus the musical picked up no fewer than 16 Tony Award nominations. Basically, everyone thinks Hamilton is THE BEST. Full-stop. But no, says Larry David. Hamilton is popular because white people are just pretending to like it so they can be hip. “Hamilton” may be making history on Broadway, but Larry David, for one, is curbing his enthusiasm. The comic actor took to the “Mike Lupica Show” podcast, which debuted Tuesday, to express his theory that a lot of the demand comes from white ticket-buyers trying to “solidify their liberal bona fides.” “Yeah, ‘Hamilton’ — it was pretty amazing,” David told the Daily News columnist. “But I have a feeling there are a lot of white people who are saying they are completely blown away even though they didn’t really understand half of the things the people on stage were saying. They just want to solidify their liberal bona fides and how cool they are: ‘Yea, I love Hamilton. Yea I get it, I’m hip.’” Lupica made a connection to the kind of voters who mislead political pollsters. “I think some of them are. No but, the show is amazing,” said David. “No doubt about it, it’s an incredible show, but I do have this theory on a lot of the people that are seeing it.” [From The NY Daily News] I was going to make a point about how Larry David would never say “Leonardo DiCaprio’s films are so popular because white people just want to pretend that they’re cool.” But I actually do think that happens. By most accounts, The Revenant was a beautiful snoozefest, and I do think some people said they liked the movie because they wanted to look artsy and cool. So, is that happening with Hamilton? Or is Larry David showing off some racial microaggression about Hamilton, like the only reason it’s so successful is because white people are trying to be cool about something they don’t “get”? Chloë Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham make red carpet debut: cute?

Embed from Getty Images This ^^ is the Alexander McQueen dress Chloë Grace Moretz wore to the premiere of her new film, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. With the dress’ frayed, open knit and saloon girl fringe draped over the arm combined with an exposed sheer black lace bra, I don’t think she needed the tussled locks for the just-rolled-out-of-bed look. In Chloë’s defense, she is wearing the look as it was shown on the runway, I’m just not sure she should have. Anyway, Chloë, 19, walked with OFFICIAL boyfriend, Brooklyn Beckman, 17, on their first red carpet! The couple started dating about two years ago but were cagey about their status for some time. Well, no longer: Social Media Posting? Check. Official Confirmation? Check. Red Carpet Appearance? Check – folks, this relationship has lift-off. Brooklyn, looking a great deal like Blane from Pretty in Pink, happy posed with his girlfriend on her big night and the two shared the same amount of PDA as they did while dining with their families last month. Chloe Grace Moretz and Brooklyn Beckham just took a major step in their relationship. The two hit their first red carpet together earlier tonight at the Hollywood premiere of Moretz’s new comedy Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. “Now, it’s out. It’s done,” Moretz, 19, told me. “Get over it. It’s real. We’re together and that’s it!” Beckham, 17, actually surprised Moretz by flying in for the premiere from London. “He’s very sweet,” Moretz said, adding, “He’s a very very genuine man. He’s a gentle man.” The two took some photos before Moretz made her way down the carpets to do interviews. Beckham was spotted hanging out behind the step and repeat before heading into the theater. Moretz also gushed about Brooklyn’s mom Victoria Beckham. Yes, they talk about fashion. “She’s a sweetie,” said Moretz, who was wearing a black ensemble from Alexander McQueen. “I love everything she does. We definitely give each other compliments, that’s for sure.” The raunchy Neighbors sequel is something different for Moretz. In fact, she even shot a sex scene with Efron. While it didn’t make the final cut of the movie, Moretz said, “We’re going to release it online pretty soon. It’s pretty wild.” [From E! News] Okay, it’s kind of sweet that he flew in to surprise her for the premiere – but that is as generous as I am going to get. Is it just me or is Chloë reading a little more importance into her relationship than, say, the rest of the world? “Get over it”? Well, gosh, give me a minute to… oh, wait – I am over it. Moreham (Chlooklyn?) does want us to know that they have only recently reunited. This may be due to the fact that Brooklyn’s relationship with Sonia Ben Ammar just ended in March. However, reminding the world she had him first, Chloë told Entertainment Tonight that they met, “a long time ago, years ago.” She also says Brooklyn’s, “… a sweetie. He’s a good boy!” (ruff!) In the excerpt above, she calls Victoria Beckham “a sweetie” as well. So I guess all the Beckhams are just a big bunch of sweeties. I may pass on the sex scene between Chloë and Zac Efron, though. Chloe may be 19 but she doesn’t quite look it to me. The good news for Chloë is Neighbors 2, which opens this Friday, is – so far – getting semi-decent reviews as a comedy. Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton debut their new duet: magic or tragic?

Reality TV and music’s current “cute couple,” Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton, used the show that brought them together, The Voice, to debut their first of what I can assume will be many duets. “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” is from Blake’s upcoming album, If I’m Honest, which drops on May 20. If watching couples make goo-goo eyes at each other for 4 minutes makes you nauseous, I’d recommend you don’t watch the clip. If you are a fan of the couple or of love, give it a peek. Gwen’s hair looks amazing and the top of the gown is lovely – she loses me at the sheer part around her legs, as it makes the dress look unfinished. Blake’s looking pretty handsome though. As much of a cynic as I can be about the fleeting romances of celebrities, it really does appear that these two are smitten with each other. A photo posted by Gwen Stefani (@gwenstefani) on May 10, 2016 at 9:57am PDT So, the song is alright. It’s not terrible. Their voices blend together better than I would have thought, but Gwen definitely doesn’t have a voice for country. The version on Blake’s album is better than the live one, because of recording studio wizardry, but Gwake’s chemistry kind of sells the song in the clip. During the taping of the segment, Voice judge Pharrell Williams quipped “Aww, you guys look so cute,” but there didn’t appear to be much enthusiasm coming from the other judges. I do love how you don’t see one iota of excitement from Christina Aguilera and not much more than polite head nodding from Adam Levine. Gwen, being the social media maven she is, posted pictures of herself (with kudos to her stylists) before taking the stage on Instagram, as well as a cute pic of the couple sharing a pre-show smooch. @blakeshelton @nbcthevoice #goaheadandbreakmyheart tonight! Omg ❤️Gx A photo posted by Gwen Stefani (@gwenstefani) on May 9, 2016 at 11:18am PDT Backstage at the show’s taping, Blake told E! that he hopes the fans love the song because it “means so much” to he and Gwen. He added, “We were a little nervous at first as to how people would receive it, because it’s not written in a traditional way at all.” He went on to tell Extra: Originally, when I started the song, I was just, I was only trying to impress her, you know, just trying to write her a song to get her excited about me, and I sent her the song half-finished and she wrote the other half of the song, so it’s such a 50/50 emotionally-invested thing. [From Extra] I guess music is the grown-up equivalent to the old “Do you like me? Check ‘yes’ or ‘no’.” notes we used to pass around in school. I do have to admit that watching the clips of Blake, I never realized how downright charming he is. I kind of have a little crush on him now. I can see how Gwen fell for him. Voice showrunner Mark Burnett took some time away from promoting his upcoming remake of Ben Hur (WHY?) he produced to share his thoughts on the couple, telling ET, I was there in those dark moments because we were working together at the time, it was their private lives but it spills over. And then I said to Blake and Gwen, ‘Imagine in your darkest moments if someone showed you a videotape of right now, the love you have, wouldn’t it be great?’ And they’re both smiling. It would be great. They are so amazing, they’re amazing. [From Entertainment Tonight] Wow, this is turning into a love story for the ages, isn’t it? Move over Liz and Dick, make way for Gwake. I can’t wait for the Lifetime movie. Debuting the song on Monday’s show has already paid off, as the single is already at the top of the charts on iTunes, right behind Justine Timberlake’s obscenely catchy new single “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” The release of the single seemed to be news to Blake, who tweeted “It’s out? Yay!!!” after a fan sent him the link to the song. He also cluelessly replied to a fan who told him the song was trending with, “Awesome!!! What does that mean?!!!!” Awesome!!! What does that mean?!!!! https://t.co/19Zul903kf — Blake Shelton (@blakeshelton) May 9, 2016 As I’ve said before, I am happy for them. They make a cute couple. The song is alright, and hopefully it will bring Blake some new fans. I do hope that the hype surrounding the couple subsides a little bit because I think we all need a little “Gwake break.” Don’t you agree? Alden Enrenreich, 26, cast as the ‘young Han Solo’: great choice or meh?

Last year, we learned that a huge slate of Star Wars-themed sequels, prequels and spin-offs were in the pipeline at Disney. One of the biggest projects was a combo prequel/spinoff, featuring the story of a pre-New Hope Han Solo. This is not going to be a straight up origin story with Han Solo’s childhood! The focus was always going to be on Han Solo as a 20-something dude, what he was up to before he met Luke Skywalker. The casting call went far and wide, and eventually Disney had the list culled to a who’s who of “really?” The shortlist featured names like Miles Teller, Scott Eastwood, Alden Ehrenreich, Logan Lerman, Emory Cohen and Ansel Elgort. The list was culled even further back in March, and now industry sources say that Disney has finally found their Young Solo: 26-year-old Alden Ehrenreich. After thousands of actors were considered to portray a younger Han Solo for a “Star Wars” spinoff, Alden Ehrenreich has landed the coveted role. Hollywood sources tell us Ehrenreich has signed on to play the iconic role, made famous by Harrison Ford, in the new movie, slated for 2018, which will focus on Solo before he joined the Rebel Alliance. One insider told us of Ehrenreich, 26, who most recently appeared in “Hail, Caesar!”: “Alden really impressed Disney and Lucasfilm execs with his screen tests. The deal is basically done.” Relatively little-known Ehrenreich — who’s also the lead in Warren Beatty’s upcoming, untitled Howard Hughes project with Fox — beat out candidates including “Divergent” stars Miles Teller and Ansel Elgort, Scott Eastwood, “Kingsman” and “Eddie the Eagle” star Taron Egerton, and “Sing Street” star Jack Reynor. The casting of the Han Solo character has been so shrouded in secrecy it was named “Project Red Cup,” in reference to the ubiquitous red plastic Solo cups. The film won’t start shooting until January, but reports are that the early casting is because the new Solo will have a cameo in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which is now shooting. That film is said to be set between “Episode III” and “Episode IV.” Reps for Ehrenreich didn’t get back to us. [From Page Six] I thought Rogue One was already in the can, but maybe not if they’re giving themselves time to film a quickie cameo with the new Solo. As for this choice… I don’t hate it. Alden is probably one of the best choices from the shortlist they had. He’s attractive (very much so), boyish, but with a slight bad-boy vibe that is desperately needed for Han Solo. I wanted to hear his voice, so I looked up some interviews and… this kid is CUTE. He has a really sexy smile. Nice voice too. Photos courtesy of WENN.
