Patrick Stewart lived in a haunted house in LA, ‘voices in rooms that were empty’

Patrick Stewart is currently promoting his memoir, Making It So. A lot of it seems to be about his time on Star Trek, and he tells many stories admitting his own poor behavior on and off set. You can read some excerpts about that here – basically, he’s admitting that he had a really prissy attitude and he needed to learn how to loosen up, especially as he was working with so many Americans. But it turns out, he completely glosses over one of the most interesting parts of his life at that time: he was living in a haunted house.

One interesting non-Trek anecdote was about a house in Los Angeles that Stewart owned, which he firmly became convinced was haunted.

“Yes, it was haunted,” Stewart recalls. “There was no question about that. There were phenomena present in that house that could not be explained and that I experienced and were experienced by others. My son, one day, was home from college and alone in the house and all of a sudden all the books in a bookshelf were thrown across the room. This upset him so badly that he left the house and waited outside until I came home.

“After I moved out of the house,” he continued, “not because of the haunting — although it had become bothersome with noises, footsteps on stairs, voices in rooms that were empty and feelings of temperature changes and so forth. I rented the house to a family and one day the mother called me up and said, ‘You didn’t tell us all the other things that came with your house.’ She and her family have been experiencing the same things that I experienced!”

[From THR]

Imagine confessing all of these detailed anecdotes about Star Trek and then tossing off the fact that you were living in a massively haunted house at the same time. “It had become bothersome with noises, footsteps on stairs, voices in rooms that were empty and feelings of temperature changes and so forth” AND SO FORTH! Like, “yes there were several ghosts and they were really angry, but back to this one episode of Star Trek…” Tell us more about the haunted house, damn. I want to know how many people experienced the hauntings. I could tell some stories! I already told one of my big stories on the podcast, about the phantom banging on the door on the one year anniversary of my father’s passing. That scared the sh-t out of me. I wouldn’t be able to handle sustained creepy sh-t in one house though.

He also told a story about working with Tom Hardy on Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002, before Tom became a big star. Patrick writes that Hardy was “an odd, solitary young man from London” who “wouldn’t engage with any of us on a social level. Never said, ‘Good morning,’ never said, ‘Goodnight,’ and spent the hours he wasn’t needed on set in his trailer with his girlfriend…He was by no means hostile — it was just challenging to establish any rapport with him.” When Tom wrapped on the film, he just walked away with no ceremony, no goodbyes, no nothing.

Patrick Stewart’s dancing Christmas hat: cute or cringeworthy?

I hope everyone had a good Christmas! Patrick Stewart spent the holiday being a good sport. He donned one of those dancing Christmas hats worn by embarrassing uncles ’round the globe. SirPat tweeted this video, which shows him cringing as the hat goes crazy on his head. It’s kind of cute, right? Other than being terrible like all singing Christmas hats. These hats rank up there with those Big Mouth Billy Bass singing fish — neither should have ever been invented. They’re so awful and only worth a drunken laugh or two.

Anyway. Sunny Ozell posted this video and titled it, “Sweet Hat Bro,” which is probably a joke about their different ages. The giggling in the background makes the video cringeworthy, but it’s still racking up the views (300,000+) like crazy. Many people (myself included) got all swept up in their wedding joy, but I wonder at the reality of a 74-year-old and 36-year-old woman together. This video is just one example, and Patrick has tweeted several photos from the past year that show him embracing youth. He went to his first music festival with Sunny, which isn’t the most comfy experience for people of any age. But they’re having a good time together, even if the Christmas hat should be burned. Oh, and I’m including a photo of SirPat dressed as a cowboy. A very English cowboy.

Brad Pitt Says He’s “a Farmer Now”

Brad Pitt wine

Brad Pitt covers the new issue of Wine Spectator, where he talks about owning a winery. I must admit, his Miravel rosé is one of my faves.

-Buzzfeed has a pretty great, in depth article on Angelina Jolie’s perfect publicity game. Between this and recent reports of her flawless behaviour at the Maleficent junkets, I wonder if her attitude has begun to rub off on Brad Pitt yet? I still haven’t forgiven him for that 2009 roundtable when he was bellyaching about having to promote his movies, while Robert Downey Jr. and Mickey Rourke sat across from him, looking dumbfounded.

Brad Pitt‘s red-carpet attacker Vitalii Sediuk faces criminal charges – and was fired from his network two weeks ago. Also, Pitt got a restraining order against him.

-Are Sandra Bullock and Chris Evans dating? (When I first saw the headline, I thought it was Chris Klein and was horrified. Chris Evans, though? Totally on board.)

Kimye‘s wedding kiss is the most liked photo on Instagram ever. It dethroned a Jelena pic, so the bar was low.

-Meanwhile, they’ve moved the honeymoon to Prague.

Pharrell said he’s not a feminist – and then proceeds to say a whole bunch of feminist things. Who wants to break it to him?

Gwyneth Paltrow did a duet with Steven Spielberg’s daughter at a fundraiser this week.

-Meanwhile, Gwyneth continues to get slammed for her comment comparing cyberbullying to war, this time by Green Beret Bryan Sikes.

-Speaking of celebrities being criticized for making stupid metaphors about fame, I’m really disappointed in Charlize Theron‘s comment about how being written about is like “feeling raped.” It’s even worse than Jennifer Lawrence‘s recent rape comment which, though admittedly terrible, was an ill-advised joke on the same level of the other r-word. When Charlize used the word rape, she was actually talking about rape. And she didn’t recognize her error or take it back, even when the interviewer commented on her “strong” choice of words. I expected more from her.

-I don’t think the world needs a new Terminator movie, but even I must admit that Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke looks totally badass.

Bryan Cranston is just trolling us now.

-Everytime I hear the guy who plays Felix on Orphan Black’s Canadian accent, I’m always so taken aback.

Lupita Nyong’o optioned the rights to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Americanah, which is the next on my reading list.

-Brace yourself for a big-ass wave of nostalgia as you gaze upon these photos of a Wonder Years cast reunion.

-The guy who caused the Red Wedding on Game of Thrones took the cutest photo with a fan ever. He’s currently taping The Strain in Toronto, and I keep seeing him. He’s so smiley and nice IRL!

-Now that the Habs lost, Jimmy Fallon wants to collect on his bet.

-The MPAA has slammed Eva Green’s Sin City 2 poster for being too risque, mostly because it’s all about the boobies.

-I had no interest in watching the terrible-looking Undateable show anyway, but Chris D’Elia’s shitty comments about #YesAllWomen just guaranteed I won’t.

Obama talked to Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan about Malia’s prom date.

-I liked this article on what Kevin Reilly’s departure means for the future of Fox — and network TV in general.

-How did I not know that Zachary Quinto and Jonathan Groff used to date?

Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy showing off their Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart impressions to the men themselves is priceless.

Norman Reedus and Aaron Paul are in one photo. Did the internet just melt?

Josh Brolin just landed the superhero jackpot.

-The trailer for The Book of Life movie, featuring the voices of Channing Tatum and Zoe Saldana, is total eye candy.

-Here’s the trailer for A Walk Among the Tombstones. Hasn’t everyone learned yet not to piss off Liam Neeson?! It never ends well!

Emma Watson’s Magical Graduation Selfie

Emma Watson graduation

Photo: twitter.com/EmWatson

Hermione really is the smartest witch that ever was. Proof: Emma Watson graduated from Brown and tweeted a celebratory selfie.

Christina Ricci‘s rep confirmed she’s expecting her first child, just in case this photo didn’t already convince you.

James Franco posted (and then quickly deleted) another gross selfie, but the internet forgets nothing!

Sofia Vergara has split from creepy fiance Nick Loeb yet again. Let’s hope this time sticks.

-This has been a damn great week for TV (The AmericansHannibal, LouisOrphan Black) but last night’s Mad Men may have just topped them all.

Charlize Theron thinks gluten-free diets “are bullshit,” which makes me love her.

-The New York Post’s report of Kimye’s wedding is hilariously bitchy.

-Meanwhile, Lena Dunham joked about missing the wedding — and then had to explain that she wasn’t actually invited because the internet doesn’t understand sarcasm.

Joss Whedon is clearly standing in Edgar Wright‘s corner following the Ant Man blowup, judging by his Cornetto response.

-Speaking of departures that are leaving fanboys (and girls) in tears, Drew Goddard has left Netflix’s Daredevil.

-Arcade Fire’s Win Butler has responded to the criticism surrounding their new video, which features Andrew Garfield in drag.

Casey Wilson got married this weekend and all of her Happy Endings costars attended, which makes me so very happy.

-House alum Lisa Edelstein also tied the knot this weekend.

-Vulture picked the Top 10 SNL sketches from this season. I wish they included Josh Hutcherson’s Josie song (which might have made me laugh more than any else on SNL in years), Tina Fey’s Girls parody, and Lena Dunham’s Scandal spoof. Kerry’s Washington‘s “What Does My Girl Say?” was great too, but it probably doesn’t age as well.

Emmy Rossum and Michael Buble became plane buddies on a recent flight.

-Speaking of unlikely pairs, watch Jonah Hill and Julie Andrews plan their future honeymoon in this adorable clip from The Graham Norton Show.

-Finally: a positive story about Justin Bieber. He made his time spent in Cannes a little more acceptable by donating $545k to charity.

-Slightly less positive news: he’s set to appear on So You Think You Can Dance.

-I really liked the new X-Men movie, but my first thought when it ended was “did that just negate the movies that came before it?” EW does a deep dive into the ramifications.

Patrick Stewart on the advice he’d give his 20-year-old self: “Oh, that’s so easy. I would say, “Patrick, cheer the f— up!’”

-I could watch Seth Rogen and Snoop recap Game of Thrones every week. It’s almost as good as the Gay of Thrones recaps.

-When David O. Russell texts Jennifer Lawrence at  4 in the morning offering her film roles, she says yes.

Norm Macdonald has been campaigning hard to replace Craig Ferguson on the Late Late Show, and last night he showcased all his skills in a one-minute audition on Conan.

-Another day, another shot of Rachel Bilson baring her baby bump in Barbados.

-Meanwhile, her Hart of Dixie costar Jaime King says the actress has been wanting a baby “badly” for quite some time.

Jim Carrey is the latest star to get in on the commencement speech action.

Keira Knightley looks lovely on the new cover of Beach, where she talks about making peace with her career choices.

Denzel Washington takes on the Russian mob in the new trailer for The Equalizer.

-Every clip and trailer for 22 Jump Street makes me LOL like a crazy person. I’m going to be really annoying at the theatre…

Hot Mutants of the ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ premiere: who would you rather?

FFN_GG_XMen_Prem_051014_51407780

I’m not exactly sure why X-Men: Days of Future Past had its world premiere on a Saturday night in NYC, but I have a theory: it’s because the mutants are hot and they wanted you to spend your Mother’s Day fantasizing about Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Hugh Jackman and all the rest of the gang. So, here you go.

I’m including pics of Fassy (Magneto), McAvoy (young Prof. X), Patrick Stewart (older Prof. X), Hugh Jackman (he was diagnosed with a second round of skin cancer, that’s why he’s wearing a band-aid on his nose), Daniel Cudmore (Colossus), James Marsden (Cyclops), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Peter Dinklage (Dr. Bolivar Trask), and to round out the Mother’s Day crushes, I’ve also included Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde). Some of you might even prefer Ellen to the dudes. Have at it!

Personally, my Fassbender-crush flourished to a ridiculous level when I saw X-Men: First Class. His young Magneto is so tortured and beautiful. He was like a mutant James Bond. So I’m choosing Fassy, who definitely looked good last night. McAvoy looks great too. I kind of think the king is still Patrick Stewart. I’m bummed Ian McKellen wasn’t there! Honestly though, all of the younger actors look like they just wandered onto the red carpet after a really long bender.
