Note: I’m splitting up today’s Golden Globe nominations into two posts, one for the TV nominations and one for the film nominations. These are the TV nominations.

Jon Hamm & Jennifer Westfelt definitely split & he’s seeing Sandy Bullock now?

This is not a new story or new speculation at all, but it’s still worth gossiping about. Back in March/April, Jon Hamm confirmed that he had been to rehab to deal with some alcohol issues. Around that time, he was promoting the last half of the last season of Mad Men, and he was doing all of the promotional stuff solo. It was weird because his long-time girlfriend/partner Jennifer Westfeldt had always come out for Jon’s red carpets. She sort of clung to him, if we’re being honest. But she was nowhere to be seen for months. There were rumors then that Westfeldt and Hamm had split up, or that they were going through a rough patch because of his alcoholism and rehab stint. Then, over the past few weeks, Hamm once again flew solo as he promoted the Minions movie. Where was Jennifer? Who knows? Star says they’re definitely done now.

Say it ain’t so! After 16 years together, Jon Hamm and girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt are going their separate ways.

“The relationship just ran its course,” says a source close to the couple. In fact, the once inseparable duo haven’t been photographed together since January, before Jon entered a 30-day rehab program for alcohol abuse.

But it wasn’t the 44-year-old star’s addiction that brought on the breakup— it was Jon’s reluctance to start a family with the 45-year-old actress. “I don’t have a driving force to have a baby,” the actor has previously said. “That said, I’m in a committed relationship, and if it ever came up, I’m not ruling it out.”

However, sources say he did just that. “Jennifer realized that she and Jon don’t want the same things,” says the pal. “So they agreed that it was time to take a step back.”

[From Star Magazine]

I feel very judgy for saying this, but men and women should know whether they want children by the time they’re in their mid-40s. I understand being publicly wishy-washy about it if you’re a celebrity (you don’t want to alienate those moms!), but if Westfeldt left him after 16 years because she only just now realized that she wants a kid and he doesn’t – well, that’s not a very good reason. Thankfully, I don’t really buy that reason. I think Hamm has some demons and Westfeldt probably dumped him months ago, and that was his “wake-up call” to go to rehab.

For what it’s worth, In Touch Weekly reports this week that Hamm is now spending time with his Minions costar Sandra Bullock. Hm… they would be an interesting couple, but I think she’s spent enough time with “men with personal demons” you know?

Mad Men’s final season begins with ‘staches, waitresses & Peggy Lee

wenn22330543

The last half of Mad Men’s final season premiered last night on AMC. And if you were hoping for some huge change, we didn’t get it. But we did get several surreal moments that made everything seem off-kilter, tenuous, Twilight Zone-esque. Matthew Weiner spoke to Vanity Fair about the premiere here, and he uses “Twilight Zone” as a reference too. Anyway, I just had some random thoughts…

The Waitress. She was played by Elizabeth Reaser, although the way she was shot at first gave the impression that she was some kind of hybrid of actresses Maggie Siff (who played Rachel Menken) and Rosemarie DeWitt (who played Don’s mistress Midge in the first season). That’s Don’s old type – sort of mysterious, brunette, intelligent eyes. But… I loathe Elizabeth Reaser. I think she’s a terrible actress every time I see her. Once I realized it was her, I was all, “Seriously? Her?”

The Fur. That was one of the best and weirdest episode openings ever, Don telling that pretty girl what to do with the fur coat. Even Ted Olsen seems to have perked up because of the casting sessions for the fur campaign.

Don’s Single Life. I’m fine with him having a little black book full of the phone numbers of stewardesses, models, actresses, waitresses and whoever else. I just hope he doesn’t marry any of those silly women.

Rachel Menken/Rachel Katz. Don’t first great love affair from Season 1 passed away. He dreamt of her just a few days after she died of lukemia. His reaction – and Hamm’s acting as he entered the apartment where Rachel’s family was sitting shiva – was particularly emotional and moving. It’s the same kind of deep grief he had when Anna Draper passed away.

The ‘Staches. The episode apparently took place in April 1970, less than a year since the last episode of Part 1. Why are there suddenly so many ‘staches?

Pete Campbell. I know he’s no one’s favorite character, but I adore the evolution of Pete. He was so happy and sunny in California and but now that he’s back in New York, parts of the old Pete have returned. But he’s still figuring out a way to be nicer to his coworkers.

Peggy Goes On A Date. Is that supposed to be some kind of signal that the people around Peggy are worried that she’s in her early 30s and still not married? Is she the poor single girl who gets set up on blind dates by her subordinates? Is she prickly about it? She loved being described as “fearless” – because who doesn’t want to see themselves that way? – but in reality and in the cold, hungover morning, we see who she really is: a cynic.

Joan Is Rich. Joan is also the victim of some really awful sexual harassment. I was waiting for her to strike back in classic Joan Holloway style. I wanted her to slap those McCann douchebros in their bro-faces. Instead, Joan took it out on Peggy (to be fair, Peggy absolutely said the wrong thing) and then drowned her sorrows in shopping. Because Joan is too rich to care about douchebros, right?

Ken Cosgrove Gets Fired. I actually really like the Ken Cosgrove character and I like that there’s someone in that office who really doesn’t have major issues with women in general or the women in his life. Ken gets along with people, he’s a glad-hander, he’s pretty good at his job, although not very imaginative. But Ken still got fired. And then Ken got his in a big way. I enjoyed that storyline a lot. I felt like that was a great way to deal with Ken’s storyline.

Stan Rizzo Is Still Peggy’s Work-Husband. I love Stan. I love that Stan came into Peggy’s office and got all up in her business about her date. Those two characters – Peggy and Stan, played by Moss and Jay R. Ferguson – have so much chemistry together.

No Megan Draper. Thank God. All we got was a reference to her when Don told Rachel’s sister that he was getting divorced again.

Dawn the Secretary. Where is she? I forget what happened exactly and how Don ended up with that somewhat flaky blonde secretary, but I miss Dawn.

Peggy Lee. That was the song used at the beginning and end of the episode, Peggy Lee’s “Is That All There Is?”

Allison Williams Is ‘Naturally Skinny’

Allison Williams Is Naturally Skinny | then and now

On the fact that she is naturally skinny:

“When I did the ‘Mad Men’ (music video in 2010), I was graduating from college — you’re college-weight. And so when we filmed the pilot for ‘Girls’ and even into that first season, I looked like someone I hadn’t looked like for four years. But that’s still the way it was set in people’s minds, so they’re like, ‘Oh, my God, you’ve lost weight.’ And I’m like, ‘This is just the way my body is very naturally.’ It’s a little bit stressful to know that there are a lot of people walking around who think I’m constantly just shaking and depriving myself.”

Vince Vaughn really is going to do ‘True Detective’ Season 2: shocking?

wenn20815647

Well, this is going to be sort of interesting. Over the weekend, Colin Farrell confirmed his casting in Season 2 of True Detective. His casting had been long-rumored and there weren’t strong feelings for or against him, you know? Some people were happy, some people were like “Meh.” What’s weird is that the most bizarre name thrown into the “casting rumor” jungle has come to fruition though: Vince Vaughn is going to have a major role in Season 2.

It’s finally official: Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in True Detective season two. HBO made the announcement today, Sept. 23.

Justin Lin, who recently helmed the Scorpion pilot, will direct the first two episodes of the eight-episode second season. Production will begin later this fall in California. The official logline from HBO: “Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.”

Creator Nic Pizzolatto is once again penning the HBO series.

Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a “compromised detective” who is torn between a corrupt police department and the mobster who “owns him.” Vaughn will take on the role of Frank Semyon, described as a career criminal who may lose his empire after his attempts to move into legitimate business are upset by the murder of a business partner.

Still missing? Two other police officers, including a female lead. Mad Men Star Elisabeth Moss is said to be in the running. Other news outlets have named Jessica Biel and Rachel McAdams as potential stars as well. The Killing’s Michelle Forbes may be involved as well. And then there’s Taylor Kitsch, who was reportedly up for a role at the same time Farrell’s name first surfaced. HBO said more casting will be announced as its confirmed, so don’t consider the Friday Night Lights veteran out of the running just yet.

[From E! News]

So, Vince Vaughn is playing the “career criminal,” at least that’s what it seems like. We still have to find out the male actor and female actor playing the other two cops. I have to admit… I probably would have bought Vince as a down-on-his-luck dirty cop type, but I actually think he’ll be better as a career criminal-type. What always bugged me about Vince Vaughn’s career is that he managed to convince people that he was a leading man. He’s not really. He’s a character actor and he should have been doing more character-driven ensembles this whole time.

Oh, and now that Vince has been confirmed, I’m really, really hoping that Elisabeth Moss is coming on board. Moss just signed on to that “Rather-gate” movie starring Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford though. Huh. Well, if it’s not Moss… just anyone but Jessica Biel. Please.

Emma Watson’s Magical Graduation Selfie

Emma Watson graduation

Photo: twitter.com/EmWatson

Hermione really is the smartest witch that ever was. Proof: Emma Watson graduated from Brown and tweeted a celebratory selfie.

Christina Ricci‘s rep confirmed she’s expecting her first child, just in case this photo didn’t already convince you.

James Franco posted (and then quickly deleted) another gross selfie, but the internet forgets nothing!

Sofia Vergara has split from creepy fiance Nick Loeb yet again. Let’s hope this time sticks.

-This has been a damn great week for TV (The AmericansHannibal, LouisOrphan Black) but last night’s Mad Men may have just topped them all.

Charlize Theron thinks gluten-free diets “are bullshit,” which makes me love her.

-The New York Post’s report of Kimye’s wedding is hilariously bitchy.

-Meanwhile, Lena Dunham joked about missing the wedding — and then had to explain that she wasn’t actually invited because the internet doesn’t understand sarcasm.

Joss Whedon is clearly standing in Edgar Wright‘s corner following the Ant Man blowup, judging by his Cornetto response.

-Speaking of departures that are leaving fanboys (and girls) in tears, Drew Goddard has left Netflix’s Daredevil.

-Arcade Fire’s Win Butler has responded to the criticism surrounding their new video, which features Andrew Garfield in drag.

Casey Wilson got married this weekend and all of her Happy Endings costars attended, which makes me so very happy.

-House alum Lisa Edelstein also tied the knot this weekend.

-Vulture picked the Top 10 SNL sketches from this season. I wish they included Josh Hutcherson’s Josie song (which might have made me laugh more than any else on SNL in years), Tina Fey’s Girls parody, and Lena Dunham’s Scandal spoof. Kerry’s Washington‘s “What Does My Girl Say?” was great too, but it probably doesn’t age as well.

Emmy Rossum and Michael Buble became plane buddies on a recent flight.

-Speaking of unlikely pairs, watch Jonah Hill and Julie Andrews plan their future honeymoon in this adorable clip from The Graham Norton Show.

-Finally: a positive story about Justin Bieber. He made his time spent in Cannes a little more acceptable by donating $545k to charity.

-Slightly less positive news: he’s set to appear on So You Think You Can Dance.

-I really liked the new X-Men movie, but my first thought when it ended was “did that just negate the movies that came before it?” EW does a deep dive into the ramifications.

Patrick Stewart on the advice he’d give his 20-year-old self: “Oh, that’s so easy. I would say, “Patrick, cheer the f— up!’”

-I could watch Seth Rogen and Snoop recap Game of Thrones every week. It’s almost as good as the Gay of Thrones recaps.

-When David O. Russell texts Jennifer Lawrence at  4 in the morning offering her film roles, she says yes.

Norm Macdonald has been campaigning hard to replace Craig Ferguson on the Late Late Show, and last night he showcased all his skills in a one-minute audition on Conan.

-Another day, another shot of Rachel Bilson baring her baby bump in Barbados.

-Meanwhile, her Hart of Dixie costar Jaime King says the actress has been wanting a baby “badly” for quite some time.

Jim Carrey is the latest star to get in on the commencement speech action.

Keira Knightley looks lovely on the new cover of Beach, where she talks about making peace with her career choices.

Denzel Washington takes on the Russian mob in the new trailer for The Equalizer.

-Every clip and trailer for 22 Jump Street makes me LOL like a crazy person. I’m going to be really annoying at the theatre…
