Kate Hudson is casually dating Diplo, Katy Perry’s ex, but his rep denies it

Kate Hudson was seen leaving the Met Gala in May with Diplo (above), whom you might remember as Katy Perry’s ex and the guy who saw through Taylor Swift’s BS before it was as transparent as it is now. (After reviewing some stories about his beef with Taylor, he seems rather prescient about her.) Kaiser reminds me that Diplo is also a highly successful producer and DJ and that she would still hate bang him. So would Kate Hudson, apparently, because these two are said to have hooked up some time last week in Ibiza. Kate Hudson has found her boy of summer: Diplo. “They are dating,” a source reveals a source reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. The actress and the DJ, both 37, who exited NYC’s Met Gala together in May, connected in mid-July near Ibiza, Spain, the insider says. She was vacationing with girlfriends; he had a day off after playing nearby at club Pacha. (His rep denies the romance.) She documented her travels and raved about her trip via Instagram. “What a blast,” the Marshall star posted July 18. “Til next time, Ibiza!” Before the getaway, she reunited with her ex fiancé, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, to celebrate their son Bingham’s fifth birthday by jetting to London July 9 to see the new Harry Potter play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. (The Glee alum also shares 12-year-old son Ryder with her ex-husband, Chris Robinson.) [From US Magazine] Good for her. It looks like a casual hookup and that seems like the type of relationship Kate prefers. Also she like musicians, her last thing was with Nick Jonas and of course she has son Bing with Muse’s Matt Bellamy and was married to The Black Crowes’s Chris Robinson. (To my friend J who insisted last week that DJs/producers are not musicians, you are WRONG. I didn’t tell you to your face but I will do so in this passive aggressive way now.) I would kind of love it if Kate and Diplo became a power couple and started a PR feud with Taylor and Tom. That’s not going to happen, but it would be like Gossip Christmas and Gossip New Year’s put together. Also, do you remember how Cher tweeted earlier this week that Kate Hudson’s clothing subscription service, Fabletics, seemed like a scam? Well Life & Style has a new story about how Kate is mad at her mom, Goldie Hawn, for buying clothing from a competitor. They quote a source who says that Goldie “recently went into Exhale, a spa in NYC, and bought loads of great Victoria Keen yoga pants and spawear.” Kate was said to be “furious… [she] obviously wants her mom to be wearing her Fabletics line.” Goldie has Instagrammed photos where she’s wearing Fabletics but she said Kate sent them to her. The big Star Trek Beyond premiere was last night to kick off the San Diego Comic Con. Most of the men and women treated the premiere like it was a really big deal, and they wore proper suits and gowns and couture. But not Forever Bae Idris Elba! If Idris is going to a San Diego premiere, he’s going to wear shorts and light blouse. Because he’s Idris Elba, damn it, and he can wear whatever he wants and still be the hottest guy on the carpet. I’m also including photos of Chris Pine’s questionable new facial hair, plus Karl Urban and John Cho. As for Idris, he’s been hitting the promotional trail pretty hard. It’s sad that he keeps getting questions about James Bond, but he has to realize at this point that he’s not getting the questions because people are truly curious. He’s getting the questions because EVERYONE thinks he would be an incredible Bond, and no one can understand why the decision hasn’t already been made. Jamie Otis Shares Heartbreaking Message to Baby She Miscarried

Jamie Otis has shared an emotional message on Instagram… to her late baby. As previously reported, Otis and Doug Hehner (who met and got married on the reality series Married at First Sight) lost their first child due to a miscarriage last week. The tragic event took place just a few days after they went public with Jamie’s pregnancy. Soon afterward, Otis wrote a post on her official blog, trying to put the pain of this loss into words. “My heart is so heavy,” she wrote at the time. “There are no words to express the pain and sorrow associated with losing our baby Hehner.” On Saturday, meanwhile, Otis continued to mourn by posting a collage of the famous couple in happier times. She included with this photo a message to the late child himself. “Not a day goes by that I don’t wake up thinking of you, Baby Hehner,” Otis wrote. “I know I have to get back to ‘normal life’ but I just don’t know how to. Today daddy and I are going to pick out a perfect name for you. We love you so much. “I hope you’re bouncing on clouds and feeling loved all the way up in heaven. #ourangel #LoveYou #angelbaby.” One day earlier, as posted above, Otis also relayed a telling quote in honor of her baby. It read: “We never had the chance to play, to laugh, to rock, to wiggle. We long to hold you, touch you now and listen to you giggle.” Otis, who also appeared on The Bachelor a few years ago, now works as a nurse. She met Hehner on Season 1 of Married at First Sight and defied the odds by remaining happily married to him. The two then documented their life as a married couple on spinoff series titled Married at First Sight: The First Year. Doug grieved about his wife’s miscarriage in a touching Instagram post last Wednesday, July 13, writing on his social media account: “#BabyHehner even though you could only leave us with your footprints, you will forever remain in our hearts. “@jamieotis and I love you! Thank you everyone for your love and support.”

Bastille Day Attack: Truck Crashes Into Crowd in France, 75 Killed

Horrifying news out of France today: At least 75 people were killed late when a man driving a large truck drove into a large crowd in Nice that had gathered to celebrate Bastille Day. According to The Associated Press, via a witness who was on hand for the heinous act, a driver plowed directly into a throng of citizens prior to getting out of the vehicle with a gun, firing away in all directions. The culprit was shot to death, authorities have confirmed.  At least 100 people were injured in the slaughter, the same authorities have also said. “There was carnage on the road,” Wassim Bouhlel, a Nice native, told The Associated Press. “Bodies everywhere.”  Another individual who was present told Fox News that cops did, indeed, shoot and kill the gunman; his name has not yet been released. Various photos, meanwhile, depict police trucks riddled with bullets, a result of a gunfight between the suspect and police. CNN reports that the tractor-trailer drove for two kilometers along the pavement of the Boulevard des Anglais, the main street in Nice, taking out pedestrians along the way. Regional President Christian Estrosi says police discovered firearms, explosives and grenades in the truck after the shooter was taken out. “This is the worst tragedy in the history of Nice with more than 70 victims already reported,” Estrosi Tweeted this evening. Another person on the scene told the Telegraph that the area was “absolute chaos” and that there were cops “flooding the streets, including anti-terrorism officers.” And then there was a local reporter who also spoke to The Telegraph, stating the following: “People ran, there was panic. He drove onto the promenade and plowed into the crowd. There is a huge amount of blood and without doubt a lot of people have been hurt.” Awful, scary, incomprehensible stuff. Bastille Day marks the storming of the Bastille in 1789. It is a bank holiday in France, with restaurants and hotels especially crowded with revelers. Soon after news of the tragedy went public, President Barack Obama issued a statement condemning the attack, saying: “We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally, as they respond to and recover from this attack.” We’ll update this sad story as more news breaks. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims.

Zachary Quinto hopes George Takei changes his mind about Sulu being gay

Embed from Getty Images Australian outlet Pedestrian.TV asked Star Trek: Beyond star and openly gay actor Zachary Quinto (Spock) to respond to George Takei’s negative take on the fact that the character he played in the original TV series, Sulu, was going to be made gay in the upcoming prequel. As you may recall, Takei said that while he was “delighted that there’s a gay character” that he found it to be a “twisting of [creator] Gene [Rodenberry’s] creation, to which he put in so much thought.” and that he thought it was “really unfortunate.” Takei had explained to both John Cho, who plays him in the reboot, and director Justin Lin why he didn’t want Sulu to be gay and how it was unrealistic for the character that he be closeted throughout his life essentially. They went ahead with that direction for the character despite Takei’s objections. So Quinto has a response for Takei and while the headlines make it seem like he’s going hard against Takei’s statement, in the actual video he’s more measured and makes it about the broader point on inclusion. As a member of the LGBT community myself I was disappointed by the fact that George was disappointed. I think any member of the LGBT community that takes issue with the normalized and positive portrayal of members of our community in Hollywood and in mainstream blockbuster cinema… I get it that he has his own personal journey and his own personal relationship with this character but, you know, as we’ve established in the first Star Trek Film in 2009 we’ve created an alternate universe and my hope is that eventually George can be strengthened by the enormously positive response especially from young people who are heartened by and inspired by this really tasteful and beautiful portrayal of something that I think is gaining acceptance and inclusion in our societies across the world and should be. [From Video on Facebook] So Quinto kind of gets why Takei would object to his character having an entirely different backstory but doesn’t think it matters in the long run, which kind of goes to show how Takei got ignored in the first place. Of course it’s nice to have a gay character in Star Trek but I think they should have listened to Takei and respected his wishes instead of assuming they were doing homage to him. Takei made it clear ahead of time that wasn’t the case and it’s like they expected him to come around, that’s basically what Quino is saying. Also, I tried to go to George Takei’s twitter account to see if he’s responded to Quinto and I just got lost in all the excellent links he shares. (I searched on “Zachary” and “Quinto” on his account and there’s nothing recent.) While searching on Twitter I found that Simon Pegg issued a lengthy response to Takei as well. Pegg defended their decision to make Sulu gay and wrote that they never suggest in the film that Sulu was ever closeted, that it’s an “alternate timeline” with “alternate details” and that “We could have introduced a new gay character, but he or she would have been primarily defined by their sexuality, seen as the ‘gay character’, rather than simply for who they are, and isn’t that tokenism?” Ok, so when Takei said he objected to his character being gay because it wasn’t right for Sulu, did they consider making a different core character gay, like Scotty? My gut says that she’s put on a few pounds (just a few, literally) because she’s not touring and she’s just on vacation. I will say this though: Taylor redid her boob job. She got a boob job several years back, but I’m now positive that she went and got them redone, with bigger, rounder implants. She has absolutely gone up a cup size at least. Meanwhile, there were some assorted tabloid/whatever stories this holiday weekend. *The Daily Mail ran a breakdown of Tom’s ancestral line, because why not? The DM did the same thing with Benedict Cumberbatch a while back, and you can see the DM’s Hiddles story here. *Tom wants to ignore all of the criticism TIDDLES has been getting. A source told Reveal Mag that “Tom’s been incredibly supportive. When this backlash started, she was worried he’d cut and run, but it’s been the opposite. He’s done wonders to cheer Taylor up, when this is exactly the sort of thing that would normally really upset her. He even made a joke about how they’re moving too fast, and he mock-proposed to her with one of those plastic kiddie rings you get from a bubblegum machine. She thought it was hilarious.” Jesus, are they BOTH 13 years old? *E! News has been running critical stories about Tiddles for more than a week. Critical as in “is this entire mess a showmance?” Well, E! spoke to Famously Single “dating coach” Laurel House to analyze the Tiddles romance. House thinks Swifty “finally broke her bad boy addiction. ‘Bad’ and ‘boy’ both being operative words. With Calvin, he was a good guy which prepared her for Tom, who is her man. Is it too fast? Is she flaunting it? Maybe! Maybe she’s not going about it the right way, but I do feel like this is authentic. She finally found what she needs: safe, sexy and seen.” I’ll say. Variety critic writes about Renee Zellweger’s face & now everybody’s mad

Last week, the second full-length trailer for Bridget Jones’s Baby dropped. I didn’t cover it because A) I didn’t think people would care and B) I found the second trailer even more depressing than the first trailer. While I am excited to see Renee Zellweger return to a celebrated and beloved role, as I see more of the plot, my excitement dies a little bit. I just think baby-daddy hijinks for a woman in her mid-to-late 40s is a bit much, honestly. Out of all the plot lines, they chose that? I understand that they’re basing it off Helen Fielding’s columns, but maybe they shouldn’t have waited so many years to make this one? Here’s the second trailer: So, yes, I have some complaints. At the heart of those complaints is just plain old disappointment though: the first Bridget Jones movie is as close to perfect as possible. It is arguably one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time. Renee was so good in it that she got an Oscar nom! But 15 years later, we’re getting this mess. And when one critic – Variety’s Owen Gleiberman – expressed his disappointment, he got into a world of trouble. Gleiberman wrote a piece called “Renee Zellweger: If She No Longer Looks Like Herself, Has She Become a Different Actress?” You can read the piece here. It’s supposed to be a “think-piece” about how Zellweger has changed her face so drastically that she’s no longer believable as Bridget Jones, and this guy is personally offended by that. He goes on at length about the pressures of society, and how Zellweger used to be pretty in a normal, believable, girl-next-door sort of way but now she doesn’t look like herself because of her very noticeable plastic surgery and he just goes on and on about it. So, obviously, Owen Gleiberman got slammed all over the place for being sexist and ageist. If we’re saying that this dude never would have written a long-winded, body-policing think-piece about how Russell Crowe is no longer believable as a leading man because of how HE looks and how HE is ageing, I can see that point, and I agree with it. That is sexist and ageist if we’re just going to go on and on about only the actresses. But… I also think that Gleiberman had a (albeit minor) point? If actors and actresses want to drastically change their looks through plastic surgery, so be it. Live and let live, and your body, your choice. But of course people are going to comment. And some of us even made similar comments when we first saw the set photos of Renee-as-Bridget, that “she doesn’t even look like Bridget” and “why does she look so different?” Of course none of us wrote long-winded hot-take think-pieces for Variety analyzing all of the many ways in which her face disappoints us personally.
