Bella Thorne: ‘Girls are just mean and so competitive — it’s so crazy’

For my money, Bella Thorne is the new Lindsay Lohan. I don’t mean that Bella is a cracked-out trainwreck. I mean that Bella, who turned 18 years old last October, reminds me strongly of Lindsay when Lindsay was that age. And yes, Bella is gingery and thirsty and she loves it when she’s photographed in various stages of undress, so there is that Lohan vibe to her too. Bella also has a knack for talking sh-t and giving pretty good interviews, so there’s that too. Bella covers the new issue of Galore Magazine, and she talks about real-life mean girls, #AskHerMore and beyond. Some highlights: Girls are so mean: “I don’t get offended because girls are really mean. I will say — no matter where you go in life, it’s high school everywhere. I’m sure in the work office, for you, there’s high school [drama], and there’s one girl who’s bitchier than everybody. Girls are just mean and so competitive — it’s so crazy.” She prefers hanging out with guys: “I’m very chill in that way. Other girls sometimes get really, really like, competitive and catty and ‘Who likes who? You like him? Too bad. I like him. We’re going to have a problem now.’” She is friendly with Mae Whitman & Chloë Grace Moretz though: “They’re all just such homeys. When somebody has a lower vocal range, it’s great because then I’m not the only one that sounds like a man. It’s the girls that are tomboys that I’m so down, any time of day, because I like to get my hands dirty. Germs don’t freak me out, and so I’m really just down to chill, you know, and watch movies. Anybody that can do that, any girls who can do that, you’d be surprised that like, everybody just wants to chill. But it’s not all the time. Girls ask me, ‘Let’s go out? Let’s go to this party? My friend’s famous and we should totally go there.’ And I’m always just like, ‘No! I’m tired, dude. I’m so tired. I just want to go home, watch a movie, sit on Netflix, and eat Top Ramen or order food.’” She works out all the time: “I work out every single day, sometimes multiple times a day. I only really work out my core, abs, and legs, and butt is included in that. I don’t really work out my chest or shoulders all that often because I personally don’t love that look. But what’s really good is jumping squats—really good.” She doesn’t diet: “I eat whatever I want all day long. I eat anything spicy, greasy, fried, with carbs, literally, everything. My skin doctor told me, ‘You need to cut out this, this, this, this.’ I’m like, ‘Shut up! No, I don’t. You just want to make me miserable and dependent on you, and I’m not going to because I’ll eat whatever I want.” She doesn’t believe in #AskHerMore: “When I watch The Oscars, my boyfriend and I have an Oscar party, and they’re like, ‘Okay, we need to record the first part since everyone won’t be here till later.’ And he’s like, ‘Why do you need to see the carpet? You do that all the time.’ And I’m like, ‘OMG bitch, I’m not on the Oscars carpet!’” [From The Daily Mail & Page Six] Of course I was rolling my eyes throughout this piece, but I’d like to say… I think there are many teenagers just like this. This self-absorbed and self-aware, this obsessed with telling you what they’re like and how cool and how chill they are and who’s in their clique and what they think about gender politics because OMG that girl was so bitchy to me. Maybe many of you know some great, amazing, inspiring 18-year-olds, but from what I’ve seen, a lot of them are like this. All I’ll say is that I’m really “over” young women telling people that they’re more of a hang-with-the-guys kind of girl, that all girls are so mean and catty, etc. You don’t sound cool. You sound like the mean, catty person. Photos courtesy of Galore.

Becky Hayter: Who is Kailyn Lowry’s New Love Interest?

The ongoing soap opera that is Kailyn Lowry’s love life took an unexpected turn recently, when the the world learned that Lowry might be dating a woman. Sources close to the Teen Mom 2 star indicated that ever since she officially separated from Javi Marroquin, Kailyn has been spending a lot of time with a female friend named Becky Hayter. At one point, a video of Kailyn and Becky kissing surfaced on Lowry’s Instagram page. It was quickly deleted after the comments section exploded with speculation about Kailyn’s sexual orientation. But though the video wasn’t online for very long, Lowry replaced the clip with the image below and has not denied that she’s romantically involved with Hayter. Insiders have confirmed that Lowry dated several women during her adolescent years and earlier today the mother of two seemed to confirm her sexual fluidity, tweeting, “Do I have to be gay or straight? Can’t I just love people?” Little is known about Hayter, but she seems to be even less shy than Lowry about confirming that the romantic rumors are 100% true. In addition to re-tweeting Kailyn’s coming out tweet, moments ago Becky re-tweeted a fan who wrote, “I have to say @KailLowry & @hayter25 would make a bangin couple tho.” It’s not a direct confirmation, but it certainly seems Hayter is implying that she and Lowry are far more than just friends. Though she’s new to the public eye, Hayter doesn’t seem the least bit bothered by the, well…haters. She’s wisely opted not to engage with them on a one-to-one basis (Never feed the trolls, kids!), and she instead dismissed the more critical comments she’s been receiving with a tweet reading, “Do people not understand calling me a lesbian is not offensive?” Based on her Twitter page, Hayter seems like a woman who knows how to party and a staunch advocate for LGBT rights. In a word, she seems cool, which is more than can be said about most of the dudes that have come and gone from Teen Mom 2 over the years. It’s official: We’re ‘shipping these two. Long live Kaiter! Charlotte Rampling on her #OscarsSoWhite drama: ‘I’m anything but racist’

In the heat of this year’s Oscars race, the #OscarsSoWhite controversy blew up. For the second year in a row, there were no major nominations for minority actors. The controversy got so bad that the Academy is still undergoing renovations to the voter rolls and trying to bring in some fresh blood and hopefully more diverse membership. The controversy also got so bad that various (white) actors had to answer questions about the all-white party known as the Oscars. One of those actors? Charlotte Rampling. Rampling was asked point-blank about the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and she said: “It is racist to whites. One can never really know, but perhaps the black actors did not deserve to make the final list,” added Rampling. Asked if the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences should introduce quotas, a proposal which no current advocate of increased diversity has mooted, she responded: “Why classify people? These days everyone is more or less accepted … People will always say: ‘Him, he’s less handsome’; ‘Him, he’s too black’; ‘He is too white’ … someone will always be saying ‘You are too’ [this or that] … But do we have to take from this that there should be lots of minorities everywhere?” [From previous story] Within hours, Rampling’s publicist made her issue an apology in which Rampling claimed that her comments had been “misinterpreted” and that she of course believes that “in an ideal world every performance will be given equal opportunities for consideration.” While her clarification left me cold (it was basically “sorry you read the words I actually spoke”), Rampling really didn’t suffer because of it. She didn’t have to answer any other questions about race and her belief that minorities were being racist to white people. Well now, months later, Rampling is talking about it again. Charlotte Rampling has defended her controversial Oscars race row comments insisting her words were simply misunderstood. “I probably think it was misinterpreted at the time. I thought, ‘Oh my god, what have I said’. It was in no way what people thought,” says the 70-year-old, who was nominated for best actress at the 2016 Academy Awards for her performance in British drama 45 Hours. “After I just didn’t listen to anything so I don’t know who said what about it. I can’t really say too much now. I could have easily had a dialogue but I wasn’t going to do that after what I said. I’m anything but racist.” [From Express] “I could have easily had a dialogue but I wasn’t going to do that after what I said. I’m anything but racist.” I have literally no idea what she’s trying to say there. Is she saying that of course she isn’t racist and she could have totally had a dialogue about what she said but she knew everyone would just say that she’s racist and she’s totally not racist, you guys. We know she’s not racist because she says so! And it’s like she wants bonus points because she COULD have had a dialogue about race but she didn’t. I would have been fascinated to hear that dialogue. Liam Hemsworth FINALLY Opens Up About Relationship With Miley Cyrus

Liam Hemsworth has been impressively silent when it comes to his relationship with Miley Cyrus. The two rekindled their relationship around the new year, but neither party has spoken publicly about it. Now, in an interview with GQ Australia, Liam opens up a little and confirms he and Miley are very much back on, confessing that she makes him happy. “I guess when I feel something, then I just feel it and I go for it,” Hemsworth said, speaking about their relationship. “I make my decisions about what’s going to make me happy, what I think is right and what I want to do — and I don’t worry too much outside of that,” he continued. While the Hunger Games actor does not specifically reveal their exact relationship status, he hinted that fans already knew. “People will figure it out, they already have,” he said. “They’re not dumb.” What the WHAT?! What does he mean we’ve figured it out? In the past few months, we’ve heard rumors of an engagement, a pregnancy, cheating by both parties, breakups and even a secret, unofficial beach wedding in which they exchanged palm fronds for rings. Is he saying it’s all true? You’re killing us, Liam. The most prevalent rumor as of now is that the two are engaged to be married and are preparing to wed sometime this year in Liam’s native Australia. We’ve also received reports that Miley is pregnant and planning a shotgun wedding, but we’re going to go out on a limb and say that’s probably false. But you never know, and Liam hasn’t denied it. Vogue named Kanye West & Kim the ‘best dressed couple’ of the Met Gala

I felt guilty about admitting this yesterday, but I really enjoyed Kim Kardashian’s Balmain at the Met Gala. Like, out of all the Balmain gowns, I thought Kim’s was the best and most interesting. Does that mean that I thought Kim looked amazing? Eh. She looked better this year than in years past, but that’s not even the point. The point is that in 2016, Kim is one of those people we’re really excited to see, because everyone will have a really strong reaction to whatever she’s wearing. In just a few short years, Kim went from persona-non-grata in elite fashion communities to one of the most-discussed women at the biggest fashion events of the year. Page Six even had a piece about how Kim and her family “ruled” the Met Gala this year, and, according to one source, “they really work that room now…they really take it over. It’s like their party. Kim Kardashian went over really well. I gotta say, they worked the room the best. If you had to pick one group who ruled it, it was the Kardashians.” And that’s not all – Vogue Magazine (Vogue.com) named Kim and Kanye “the Met Gala’s Best-Dressed Couple.” I wouldn’t go that far, Vogue! I thought Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik were more interesting, although it was mostly Zayn, not Gigi. You can read Vogue’s write-up about Kimye here. Kanye read it too, and he even happily tweeted about it yesterday: I’m really excited to get our first best dressed at the met … This Gala is like the Grammys of style! pic.twitter.com/POCtXJUGzN — KANYE WEST (@kanyewest) May 3, 2016 He also tweeted out his thank-yous, like being named Best Dressed was an actual award and he was making an acceptance speech. He tweeted: “Thank you Anna for the invite thank you to the whole Vogue team… thank you Olivier for making 4 dresses for Kim to choose from which we chopped 2 in half… and thank you for turning my personal jean jacket into a couture piece… also to Kim’s hair and makeup Lorraine jewelry and the whole style squad at Balmain and the Yeezy team…. We just had fun with the “future” theme !!! It was a fun night all together …” [From Kanye’s Twitter] It’s sort of cute to me. This is Kanye at his most vulnerable, when he’s desperate to be accepted by the elite fashion people and tastemakers. Like, being called best-dressed by Vogue really, really means something to Yeezy. Madonna ‘insisted’ on having the Met Gala carpet to herself for photos

I’ve never been a die-hard Madonna fan. I liked her for many years, and if I have a reason to defend her, I will. But this current incarnation of Madonna is just really uncomfortable. Her appearance at the Met Gala was really messy, and when she tried to speak to the reporters, her face could barely function because she’s had so much work done. She’s clinging to her youth, absolutely. But even more than that, it’s like she’s clinging to this idea she has of herself, that she’s always going to be the most important, the most notable, the most scandalous and the most discussed person in the room. And is that the reality? People were discussing her Met Gala appearance, absolutely. But did she “scandalize” anyone? Or were we just like, “Oh, God. Please put it away”? Page Six says that Madonna and her people demanded that all other celebrities clear off the gala red carpet while Madonna strutted her butt cheeks. Ugh. A-listers, make way for Madonna. The Queen of Pop, squeezed into a peculiar posterior-baring bondage outfit, halted the red carpet at the Met Gala for her arrival. A source tells us, “Madonna cleared the red carpet to make her big entrance, even though she was not really dressed. All these A-listers had to wait for Madonna, who insisted on having the carpet to herself, to have her pictures taken.” Those held up and forced to wait on line while Madge did her thing included Katy Perry, Kim and Kanye, Naomi Campbell, Solange and all the designers. The source added that things got funny when Perry got impatient and started yelling out at limelight-loving Madonna, “Are we ready now? Can we go?” [From Page Six] Madonna making Kanye West wait is… appropriate. But pulling “rank” like that at the Met Gala is just so cheesy, especially in Madonna’s situation these days (her Sad Clown act) and especially considering her Givenchy ensemble was absolutely ridiculous. Oh, and Joan Collins (of all people) had some mean words to say about Madonna: “I thought it was a costume party, Halloween look, but it’s the Met Ball which is supposedly one of the most glamorous and fashionable events and I thought that the bottom thing coming out was a bit over the top… I am the least ageist person… if you want to do that, be prepared to be made a figure of fun because I don’t know anybody who hasn’t been laughing about it.” [From Express] Is this how Madonna “scandalizes” these days? By being the joke, by being laughed at, by being thought of as out-of-touch? It’s almost enough to make me feel sorry for her. But then I look at these photos – where Madonna looked like she was soaking up the flashes – and I don’t feel sorry for her. Photos courtesy of WENN.

Why didn’t people clap for Mad Max costume designer Jenny Beavan?

Embed from Getty Images Jenny Beavan took the home the Oscar for Best Costume Design for Mad Max: Fury Road last Sunday. As soon as she hit the stage, my girlfriend in New York shot out a group email saying, “How bad@ss is it the Best Costume Designer is wearing a leather jacket?” We all sent back cyber fist bumps. Apparently, the glitterati of Hollywood did not share our enthusiasm. As Jenny walked victorious to the stage, a number of high ranking entertainment industry folks either looked dismayed or withheld applause. The soon-to-be Best Director Alejandro Iñárritu even folded his arms across his chest. The question is, were his actions sour grapes that his designer for the The Revenant lost or did all the haut monde feel Jenny was too casual for their fancy dress party: What gives? Some of Hollywood’s biggest talents refused to clap for Mad Max: Fury Road costume designer Jenny Beavan on Sunday, February 28, as she walked up to the Dolby Theatre stage to accept her Academy Award — and the reason why they didn’t applaud her is even worse. Beavan broke away from the Oscars’ traditional dress code at the 88th awards ceremony, proudly grinning and walking down the aisle in a leather jacket (complete with a studded skull on the back) and a striped scarf. As she walked by, several audience members glowered and gave her judgmental looks. Four-time-Oscar-winning director Alejandro Iñárritu crossed his arms and glared, while Spotlight director Tom McCarthy touched his face with a confused expression. Other members of the audience were seen giggling and smiling before raising their hands to belatedly clap for the recipient. [From Us Weekly] This jacket is looking to take down Awards Season. This is the same jacket, minus the bedazzled Skull of Awesome, Jenny wore to the BAFTAs when Stephen Fry joked, “Only one of the great cinematic costume designers would come to an awards ceremony dressed as a bag lady,” after she’d won for Max. Twitter attacked him and he quit Twitter saying, “Will all you sanctimonious f****** f*** the f*** off Jenny Beavan is a friend and joshing is legitimate. Christ I want to leave the planet.” After the BAFTAs, Jenny said she wasn’t comfortable in a gown and her bad back prohibited heels. Then she quipped, “… This was a homage to Mad Max and I obviously didn’t get it quite right at the Baftas, the scarf was meant to be an oil rag.” The best news? The jacket is not only faux-leather but currently on sale at Marks and Spencer for about $60. I am not saying Oscar fashion isn’t important; I salivate over the gowns and rush to read the commentary on this website as quickly as you do. But Jenny wasn’t asked to present, she wasn’t loaned a gown or even interviewed on the red carpet; she had the luxury to wear something more comfortable. Fellow nominee Sandy Powell made a statement with a David Bowie inspired suit and all that got her was Juliana Ranic and Kris Jenner misidentifying her as Tilda Swinton. Designer Jacqueline Durran wore a long denim tied-front jacket to accept her Oscar in 2013 and in 1995 Lizzy Gardiner infamously wore a dress made of American Express Gold cards. Sure Jenny could have paired her jacket with silk palazzos but I stick with my girlfriend’s original assessment – it was bad@ss.
