Katy Perry’s Parents Want You to Pray for Their Daughter

Katy Perry is one of the most successful female artists on the planet.

She’s managed to stay relevant ever since the release of her hit single, “I Kissed A Girl” way back in 2008.

Her parents, Keith and Mary Hudson are deeply religious and recently lifted the lid on how they really felt about their daughter.

Katy Perry Attends amfAR's 23rd Cinema Against AIDS Gala - After Party

They revealed crazy information about the family across two packed services at the Church of Grace in Yorba Linda, California on July 17 and 18.

It isn’t news that the both Keith and Mary have been embarrassed by their daughter’s past. You only need to look at some of her music videos to find out why.

They even chimed in on her feud with Taylor Swift.

“Don’t judge her, pray for her,” they implored.

Okay then.

Her mother also addressed Perry’s new single, “Rise.”

“She [Katy] released a new song called ‘Rise.’ It says, ‘My feet have been put to the fire but I will rise.’ That’s what she’s about right now.”

Could this mean that the singer’s new material will be less racy than past efforts?

Keith noted that he recently spoke to Perry and even talked about the lyrics of the track.

“If you listen to this new song you know it ain’t over yet. She talks about some things. She’s good.”

“I want you to pray for my daughter,” he added. “Don’t judge her, pray for her. She’s going to be singing Rise for the Olympics this year. We’re very proud of it and her.”

It all sounds pretty bizarre.

At least we know that they like the new song more than her first big hit.

“We certainly like it more than ‘I Kissed A Girl,'” he said of her new music. “When ‘I Kissed A Girl’ came out we thought about moving to Venezuela because of the shame.”

Perry’s mom added: “We were going to save [former Venezuelan President who died in 2013] Hugo Chavez but it’s too late for that now.”

Keith took things one step further and commented on his days in the 1960s, taking drugs.

“I looked like John the Baptist coming out of the woods but I wasn’t eating locusts, baby. My candy was LSD! I was taking it like candy.”

Did anyone expect anything like this to come out? It came pretty much out of the left field.

Basically, they wanted to let us know that there was time they were ashamed of their daughter, but not now.

What do you think about it all?

In Touch: Jessica Simpson is ‘hell bent on landing a Vegas residency’

Jessica Simpson partners with Budget Car Rental
When you think Jessica Simpson you think platform shoes, farts, and bags with needless fringe right? You don’t think “singer” at this point, but that’s how she got her start in the business. That and being ditzy on TV. According to In Touch, which would have little reason to make up a story about Jessica Simpson because it’s not like she’s a huge draw, Jessica wants to return to music for the next stage of her career. She wants a lucrative deal in Vegas like Britney, Mariah and Celine. Nevermind the fact that she hasn’t put out an album since 2010′s Happy Christmas.

Watch out, Britney Spears! Jessica Simpson is looking to revive her singing career by seeking out a Vegas residency, In Touch has exclusively learned.

“She’s hell-bent on landing a Vegas residency,” a source reveals, explaining that Jess recently built a recording studio in her LA home and began working with top songwriter-producers like Linda Perry.

“With state-of-the art technology and backdrops paired with her sex appeal, she thinks she can give the other headliners a run for their money,” says the source.

“After 20 years in the music business, Jess is excited to follow her dreams and become a Vegas legend.”

Quick name one song by Jessica Simpson. You can’t, can you? The only thing that comes to mind is a video she did with Eva Longoria which involved roller skating. I can name more Paris Hilton songs (one) than I can Jessica Simpson songs. Googling “Jessica Simpson hits” brings up her remake of “These Boots Are Made for Walking” and such singles as 1999′s “I Wanna Love You Forever” and 2006′s “A Public Affair.” I guess that’s the video with Eva Longoria, but the song is completely forgettable. I just listened to it again and am reminded that it’s a ripoff of Madonna’s “Holiday.” If this is true, and Simpson wants a Vegas residency, she has to have songs that people want to hear, it’s not enough to be able to writhe around on stage. None of her music videos have over 5 million views on YouTube. This isn’t happening for her.

Jessica’s last venture was a commercial for Budget rent-a-car. Is her clothing line not doing well? Last week The Enquirer reported that Jessica and her husband, Eric Johnson, spend $50,000 every month on food and drinks and “have cases of the finest wines and champagnes delivered to their home every week,” eat at expensive restaurants and “get deliveries from places like Little Dom’s or La Poubelle.” So maybe their spending is a issue.

Taylor Swift debuts ‘Out of the Woods’ music video on NYE: fun or silly?

Are we in the clear yet? #OOTWMusicVideo Premiering at approximately 10:51pm EST on ABC

A photo posted by Taylor Swift (@taylorswift) on

As we all know, Taylor Swift’s 1989 has many thinly veiled blind-item songs about her months-long, on-and-off thing with Harry Styles. When the album first came out, I remember in-the-know Swiftloonies saying that “Out of the Woods” was one of the most obvious ones, with several lyrical callbacks to her relationship with Styles. So… even though Swifty is happy with Calvin Harris now (and stockpiling references about him which will go on her next album), she’s still dealing with Styles in various ways. So while One Direction performed on New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, Swifty made sure that the night was also about her. She debuted her new video for “Out of the Woods” on the show, without even having to show up in person.

“Out of the Woods” is the music video she filmed in New Zealand in November. There was a controversy because Taylor’s film crew was massive, and the beach they were using has strict limitations as to the allowed vehicles, which is why “Swifty hates endangered Dotterels” is a thing. Anyway, here’s the video (which probably killed some endangered Dotterels).

Adele broke Taylor Swift’s Vevo record: do you think Swifty is pissed?

wenn23058370

I also think it’s interesting that Adele’s first music video in more than three years stars an African-American dude as her love interest/former love interest. Taylor has a well-documented blind spot when it comes to race, and it’s doubtful that she would even consider casting a minority actor/model as her fictional love interest. Taylor doesn’t even cast minority actors when she’s filming Out of Africa-themed music videos.

I’m not proud of this, but when Adele dropped the “Hello” single and video last Friday, one of my first thoughts was “I would love to see Taylor Swift’s face this morning.” Yes, one of the first places I went was to pit two enormously successful women against each other. As I said, I’m not proud. But to be fair to myself, there’s a lot of legitimate compare-and-contrasting going on between Adele and Swifty. Also, to be fair: both women are total professionals and their competition (or the media speculation about their competition) is completely at the professional level. Swifty isn’t singing songs about “Bad Blood” with Adele, nor is Taylor telling Vanity Fair that Adele is going to hell for whatever reason. Adele has barely said one word to or about Taylor in public. There is no “feud” in the gossip sense, they are just two professionals with a healthy sense of competition.

As for the comparing and contrasting… if we’re being honest, it’s sort of one-sided. Adele’s last studio album, 21, has sold 30 million copies and is one of the top-five best selling albums of all time. Taylor has sold about 27 million copies of all of her albums combined. Taylor held the record for most-viewed video within a 24-hour period for “Bad Blood” when it was viewed 20.1 million times on Vevo after weeks of hype, Instagrams, tweets and a big debut at the Billboard Awards (plus “Bad Blood” starred Taylor’s squad of A-list friends). With minimal advanced hype, a grand total of three Instagram posts and one Facebook post, Adele smashed Taylor’s record. “Hello” was viewed 25 million times on Vevo in a single day.

Taylor also holds/held a lot of records for downloads, single sales and album sales for 1989. Adele’s “Hello” is already the #1 download in 85 countries and there’s every expectation that when the album drops in November, Adele will smash every record then too. Adele was able to do all of this with such minimal social media effort. The only press she did was on the day she dropped her first single – she did not sit down for an advanced Rolling Stone interview or anything else, although (to be fair) I’m sure those magazine interviews are coming.

As of Sunday, Taylor has made no mention of Adele on her social media. Which is weird, because she’s usually pretty engaged with what’s going on with other artists, right? Lots of celebrities have done shout-outs to Adele on their social media, but not Taylor. Will she say anything? Is Adele – more than anyone else – the one Taylor could never collect as a friend?

Oh, and let’s not forget these two have been up for the same award before: in 2013, Taylor and Adele were up for the Golden Globe for Best Song, which Adele won for “Skyfall.” Adele would go on to win the Oscar while Taylor wasn’t even nominated. Remember Taylor’s face when Adele won at the Globes? That’s why one of my first thoughts was “I would love to see Taylor Swift’s face this morning.”

FKA Twigs insists she’s ‘not thirsty’, gets pap’d in LA with Robert Pattinson

FFN_Pattinson_Robert_EXC_TrickyDFF_112114_51592035

Here are some super-cute photos of Robert Pattinson out with his girlfriend of three months (?) FKA Twigs. They are adorable!!! It looks like they maybe worked out together and then got some iced coffee or smoothies or something. Sparkles is making faces in half the photos because (I think) he doesn’t like the taste of one of the drinks. Twigs definitely looks post-workout, but I might be wrong. Maybe this is just their low-key, loved-up-in-LA look. And check out Sparkles acting saucy by grabbing Twigs’ butt in full view of the paps. It honestly doesn’t look like a “I can’t wait to really grab your butt in private” kind of grab. It looks more like Sparkles touched it for a second with his fingertips and said “HONK!”

Anyway, Twigs has a new interview with Rolling Stone. She talks about Rob a little bit and their relationship and her newfound tabloid fame/Twihard infamy. You can read the full piece here. Here are my favorite parts:

The hate-tweets she got for dating Rob: “It was all this crazy, racist abuse out of nowhere. But if you’re an artist, you have to use everything to your advantage, even the pain.”

Growing up in rural Gloucestershire, England: “It was boring and it was beautiful. You’re running in fields, you’re outside, you’re imaginative – but there’s also nothing to do, and when you get to be a teenager, sometimes you kind of lose touch with nature, like I did. You become so trapped in yourself.”

Working as a background dancer in music videos: “As more time goes on, I realize how much I hated it. If I didn’t connect with it creatively, sometimes it would be a bit like, ‘Ugh, why am I doing this?’ Like a tiny cog in a wheel. But at the time I was very grateful – I’d do a music video and make £200 from it. It would have taken me a week and a half to make that doing four jobs.”

She doesn’t care about fame: “I don’t want to be in front of the camera forever,” she says, mentioning dreams of scoring films or directing videos for other artists instead. “I’m not thirsty. I’m not a pop star. I don’t want to reign over all forever.” She is firm on this point: “I don’t want to be famous!” she adds. “It makes me feel sick, the thought of being a famous person. It’s just not me. I’m the happiest when I’m in the studio, not on a beauty parade.”

She’s not a cute little girl: “I love feeling dark. The whole of my life, when people are getting to know me, they’re like, ‘You’re so cute!’ But how I look is not how I am. If you’re going to get to know me on the body that God gave me, then you’re going to get a shock at some point. I look like an anime character, but inside, I feel like a warrior. Like a female mother-earth warrior in a tribe in Africa or a rainforest that we haven’t discovered yet. I feel like I’m really quiet and really tall, six foot, and when I scream, all the leaves rustle and I can throw spears. I have all these big scars all over my face from where jungle animals have tried to fight me, but I’ve won. I’ve had loads of children, so my bones are strong, but my skin is all weathered. That’s how I feel. I was just put in a manga character by accident.”

Beyonce releases new track & video for ’7/11′: funny, charming & silly?

bey1

Last week, two new Beyonce songs started leaking all over the internet. The songs are part of her platinum collection/box set or whatever. I thought about writing about it, but I figured as soon as I sat down to write something, the tracks would probably be pulled and no one would even care. One track got a lot of gossip-y attention – it’s called “Ring Off” and it’s about a woman who finally had enough of her dog of a husband and finally took the ring off. People were like “OMG, Beyonce is singing about Jay-Z.” But once the Hive had a chance to really analyze the lyrics, most thought it was probably a song about Beyonce’s mom Tina and how Tina finally left Mathew Knowles (because he was fooling around A LOT).

Then, late Friday, Beyonce dropped the video for the second song, “7/11”. This video is so… FUN. It’s silly and funny and actually pretty cool. You know me – I like Beyonce AND I like to poke the Hive a bit, so I’ll just say that I never really gave a crap about all of Beyonce’s music videos for her last album. She dropped those videos almost a year ago, and none of them really stood out as being fun or interesting or anything. The “Partition” video especially seemed… um, kind of ridiculous. But I really love this video, mostly because Bey is just dancing and acting silly with her girls. Here you go – I think this video is pretty SFW…? There’s no real nudity, just some girls dancing in their bras at various points.

I love it when Beyonce falls! My favorite part is when she uses the hair dryer for a wind machine though. Who knew Beyonce had a sense of humor? Also: Bey looks SO small these days. This is like the smallest she’s ever been.

Here are some pics of Bey & Jay out on Friday night, just after she dropped the video:

Beyonce became a next-level savior at the VMAs: damage-control or genuine?

wenn21641001

Alright, let’s talk about Beyonce. Beyonce Beyonce Beyonce. Queen B. Our lord and savior Beysus. We knew coming into the VMAs that Beyonce was definitely going to perform and that she was definitely going to pick up the MTV Video Vanguard Award. We also knew that Beyonce would explicitly or implicitly address the now-constant rumors about her marriage being in shambles. We were all waiting to see if Jay-Z was there, if they would sit together, if Bey would make a reference to her marriage. And they made us wait and wait and wait. But it was worth it.

First, Bey walked the red carpet alone. She also did the press room, backstage, alone. No Jay-Z. But Jay was seen on the backstage camera early on in the night, and we saw that he was there and he was holding on to Blue Ivy. By the way, Beyonce’s red carpet look was the black lace Nicolas Jebran Couture. I’m not into it, but I rarely like lace on a red carpet, it usually looks cheap and Fredrick’s of Hollywood to me. Beyonce’s burgundy Zuhair Murad dress in the press room was a tad better, but still not really great.

So, with everybody primed and everybody waiting until the very last moment for Queen B, she finally arrived. There was a smoke machine. There were her special Bey-fans. There were amazing back-up dancers. There were stripper poles and dramatic back-lighting. And Bey kicked our asses for 16 minutes, doing mostly a medley of songs off her new album. She even threw in part of her “Flawless” remix with Nicki Minaj, referencing “a billion dollars on an elevator.”

Even for Beyonce, this seemed like an especially emotional performance, right? But I always have to give it to her – she WORKS. She brings production value to everything. She made the VMAs a must-watch event. Anyway, after she performed and cried and busted her ass, Jay-Z came on stage with Blue Ivy to present Bey with her Video Vanguard Award. Well-deserved. I feel like their body language was supposed to tell us that everything is fine, that they’re working through their problems. But what I got out of it was that Bey was acknowledging that they were having problems. I tweeted this last night and I think it’s true: they’re not breaking up now. Not this week. Not next week. But maybe in October.
