Angelina Jolie almost played the lead role in the iconic ’90s movie ‘The Craft’

This ^^ is a photo of Angelina Jolie in 1996’s Foxfire, the story about five teenage misfits who gang together to take down the man who has harassed them. Foxfire was the film where Angelina met and fell in love with Jenny Shimizu, incidentally. It was also the film Angelina did instead of The Craft!! For ‘90s girls like me, The Craft is a pretty big deal. Personally speaking, Clueless was always a bigger deal for ME, but I did enjoy The Craft. The Craft is also a story of a gang of misfit girls banding together… but they banded together for witchcraft! The iconic ‘90s film starred Robin Tunney (in the lead role), Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell and Rachel True. The film turns 20 years old this year, and to celebrate, HuffPo did interviews with original cast members, producers and the director, Andrew Fleming. Fleming said that Angelina was very close to being cast in the lead role, which went to Robin Tunney. That’s what’s shocking to me, that Jolie read for Sarah and not Nancy (played by Fairuza Balk). You may not be able to picture The Craft with a different group of teen witches, but that was almost the case when putting the coven together. During an interview with The Huffington Post to celebrate the cult classic’s 20th anniversary, casting director Pam Dixon and director Andrew Fleming revealed that the famous 1996 flick almost starred some now-huge A-listers, including Angelina Jolie, Alicia Silverstone and Scarlett Johansson. And they all went for the same part—Sarah, the lead role. “We did these tests and we tested a lot of girls, some of whom have become really well-known,” Dixon shared. “We actually had a hold on somebody that we had to let go because she got offered another film, and we didn’t know if the movie was really happening. That girl was Angelina Jolie. She did Foxfire instead.” Oh, whaaaaat? She continued, “Another person who came in was Scarlett Johansson, who was just 12 at the time. The other girl was Alicia Silverstone. This would have been ‘95. She had just shot Clueless, but it had not come out. Alicia also got something between the time that we read them and the time we were really going to make the movie, so we couldn’t pick her up either and she went to do something else. They were all really for Sarah.” The lead role obviously ended up going to Robin Tunney, who actually auditioned for a smaller part in the film. “Robin was originally cast in the part that Neve Campbell played, but we wanted her for the lead. We had to talk her into playing the lead, which was weird. But she did it. She wanted to play Bonnie, and we said, ‘No, we want you to be Sarah.’ It was like a reverse-Hollywood story where she wanted the smaller part.” [From E! News] I could see how Alicia Silverstone would be in contention for the middle-of-the-road Sarah role, and I could also see how Angelina would have been outright offered the lead or any role in the film. But Angelina would have been better as Nancy. Perhaps they already had Fairuza at the time and they just wanted Sarah to be darker, thus Angelina. Because remember how Angelina was back then? She WAS The Craft. She was dark and witchy and goth and amazing. What could have been! Embed from Getty Images Photos courtesy of WENN, ‘The Craft’ and ‘Foxfire.’

Blac Chyna is pregnant & pissed off at the Kardashians for leaking that info

Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna got engaged back in April. At the time, it seemed like a sudden move. And while I would never dare suggest that this is just a reality-show version of a shotgun marriage, that’s exactly what it looks like. On Friday, Blac Chyna and Rob confirmed that they are expecting their first child together. The baby will be Rob’s first overall, and Chyna’s second – she’s also mom to son King Cairo, whose father is Tyga (Kylie Jenner’s boyfriend). Chyna’s rep confirmed the pregnancy far and wide, telling media outlets: “I can confirm she’s pregnant and of course she’s happy.” But of course there’s already drama. People Magazine also noted in a later post that Chyna and Rob were not expecting to announce the news on Friday – they wanted to do it today, Sunday, for Mother’s Day. Chyna’s rep once again went to People and said: “She would have preferred to have announced it on Mother’s Day herself, but her hand was forced.” Who was “forcing” her hand? The Kardashian clan. Apparently, someone (or multiple someones) leaked the pregnancy info to media outlets on Friday, just to get at Chyna… maybe. I find it interesting that her rep is going on the record to People Mag just to stir the sh-t. As it turns out, Chyna has been a Kardashian all along, you know? She fits right in with the K-klan. People Mag also ran several positive, exclusive stories about the pregnancy and how Rob is elated about becoming a father, especially considering he lost his own father at such a young age. There’s also some insidery info about how the Kardashian-Jenner clan reacted to the news – go here to read. Apparently, Kris Jenner is not thrilled, and the Kardashian sisters are just sort of shell-shocked. Sources also say that Kim is already coming around, basically because she doesn’t see the point in starting a war with Rob and Chyna. Interestingly enough, in this week’s Life & Style, sources note that Rob is getting a bigger paycheck for Keeping Up with the Kardashians this season. For several seasons now, Rob has been in the wind, barely making appearances and not really engaging with the various storylines of the show. But if you’ve been watching this new season (currently airing), you might have noticed that Rob’s storyline is really dominating the show. So let me ask you… was that the plan all along? ???? Madonna ‘insisted’ on having the Met Gala carpet to herself for photos

I’ve never been a die-hard Madonna fan. I liked her for many years, and if I have a reason to defend her, I will. But this current incarnation of Madonna is just really uncomfortable. Her appearance at the Met Gala was really messy, and when she tried to speak to the reporters, her face could barely function because she’s had so much work done. She’s clinging to her youth, absolutely. But even more than that, it’s like she’s clinging to this idea she has of herself, that she’s always going to be the most important, the most notable, the most scandalous and the most discussed person in the room. And is that the reality? People were discussing her Met Gala appearance, absolutely. But did she “scandalize” anyone? Or were we just like, “Oh, God. Please put it away”? Page Six says that Madonna and her people demanded that all other celebrities clear off the gala red carpet while Madonna strutted her butt cheeks. Ugh. A-listers, make way for Madonna. The Queen of Pop, squeezed into a peculiar posterior-baring bondage outfit, halted the red carpet at the Met Gala for her arrival. A source tells us, “Madonna cleared the red carpet to make her big entrance, even though she was not really dressed. All these A-listers had to wait for Madonna, who insisted on having the carpet to herself, to have her pictures taken.” Those held up and forced to wait on line while Madge did her thing included Katy Perry, Kim and Kanye, Naomi Campbell, Solange and all the designers. The source added that things got funny when Perry got impatient and started yelling out at limelight-loving Madonna, “Are we ready now? Can we go?” [From Page Six] Madonna making Kanye West wait is… appropriate. But pulling “rank” like that at the Met Gala is just so cheesy, especially in Madonna’s situation these days (her Sad Clown act) and especially considering her Givenchy ensemble was absolutely ridiculous. Oh, and Joan Collins (of all people) had some mean words to say about Madonna: “I thought it was a costume party, Halloween look, but it’s the Met Ball which is supposedly one of the most glamorous and fashionable events and I thought that the bottom thing coming out was a bit over the top… I am the least ageist person… if you want to do that, be prepared to be made a figure of fun because I don’t know anybody who hasn’t been laughing about it.” [From Express] Is this how Madonna “scandalizes” these days? By being the joke, by being laughed at, by being thought of as out-of-touch? It’s almost enough to make me feel sorry for her. But then I look at these photos – where Madonna looked like she was soaking up the flashes – and I don’t feel sorry for her. Photos courtesy of WENN.

AMC may allow texting in some theaters (Update: they have nixed this idea)

The movie industry is trying to adapt to new technology as you know. We can watch almost anything, anywhere except for first run movies in our homes and on the go on our devices. It’s even changing to the point where we will probably be able to rent first run movies at home soon at a premium. This should give us the opportunity to pause the show to go to the bathroom (although there’s an app for that*), get snacks and just not go through the hassle of traveling to watch a film with friends and family. There are a lot of inconveniences to watching movies away from home, not least of which (to some people) is the fact that we’re expected to turn off our phones for two hours. In a new interview with Variety, AMC head Adam Aron said that they’re looking into ways to allow texting during movies. AMC is now the world’s largest theater chain after their acquisition of Carmike Cinemas last month, so this is significant. Would appealing to millennials involve allowing texting or cellphone use Yes. When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow. You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s not how they live their life. At the same time, though, we’re going to have to figure out a way to do it that doesn’t disturb today’s audiences. There’s a reason there are ads up there saying turn off your phone, because today’s moviegoer doesn’t want somebody sitting next to them texting or having their phone on. Would you have a certain section for texting? That’s one possibility. What may be more likely is we take specific auditoriums and make them more texting friendly. [From Variety] Variety also asked Aron about The Screening Room, which would allow consumers to rent first run films at home. (Creator Sean Parker has been trying to make deals with theater chains for a cut of the profits.) He wouldn’t comment, simply saying that he prefers “To keep our counsel private right now.” As far as checking phones and texting during movies, I was watching American Hustle when the news came through that Philip Seymour Hoffman had died. Bedhead had been trying to contact me. I know an extra two hours doesn’t make that much of a difference but I felt like I missed this sad news. So now I check my phone a few times during a movie. I’m careful to sit away from people if possible, I have the sound turned off and in the winter I’ll only check it under a poncho or oversized sweater to block the light from my phone. In the summer I just bring a light jacket or poke my head under my shirt. This is a good idea to allow texting I think, as long as it’s disclosed to everyone and moviegoers have a choice whether to attend texting-allowed movies or sit in that section. Maybe they can provide little blocking devices that you put in your lap where you can only see the light from your phone at certain angles. This doesn’t seem that hard to implement. Also, theaters should specify that all sounds must be turned off. No one wants to hear that tap-tap. Update: AMC has issued a statement saying that they have “Heard loud and clear that this is a concept our audience does not want” and that they will not be implementing this idea. I have also heard from you that it is very rude of me to check my phone, even under a sweater, while in a movie. I will stop doing this and have taken your feedback to heart. NO TEXTING AT AMC. Won't happen. You spoke. We listened. Quickly, that idea has been sent to the cutting room floor. pic.twitter.com/JR0fo5megR — AMC Theatres (@AMCTheatres) April 15, 2016 *Thanks CL for the tip! Duchess Kate wore buttery Emilia Wickstead for her Bhutan arrival: lovely?

Embed from Getty Images Look very carefully at these photos… I think someone finally convinced the Duchess of Cambridge to add weights to her hems!! These are pics from the Duke and Duchess’s arrival in Bhutan today. For the plane exit (which I’m sure counts as an event for these two), Kate decided to wear an Emilia Wickstead coatdress in a muted butter yellow. The dress costs $169, because of course it does. While it doesn’t look like it was very windy today in Bhutan, I still think that someone got through to Kate and finally, at long last, convinced her to take precautions with her hems. Now if we could only get her to stop slouching. After the arrival, Will and Kate joined the Dragon King and Queen for a special reception in Thimpu Dzong, and Kate changed into another outfit – you can see the ensemble here. She paired a £340 Paul and Joe blouse – with a built-in cape – with a long, straight skirt that looked somewhat traditional for Bhutan. That was fine, I think. But she paired the ensemble with her nude court shoes and it just looked ridiculous. Update: here’s video of Kate walking in that Bhutanese inspired outfit. Rihanna wears shorts, Miu Miu fur to Black Girls Rock: ridiculous or amazing?

For six years now, BET has been doing an event called Black Girls Rock! It’s about promoting positivity with African-American women and black women and showing young women of color that there are some amazing role models in their community. Considering the consistent underrepresentation of women of color in the media, I think the event is pretty great. In years past, Michelle Obama has even come out for it. And this year, Rihanna and Hillary Clinton came out. Clinton gave a speech about her African-American female role models – you can read her speech here. Rihanna was there because she picked up the Rock Star Award. In the past month, we’ve gotten more red carpet and paparazzi photos of Rihanna than we’ve had in the previous year. When she amps up her promotion, she really brings it. While I’m happy about all of the new Rihanna photos, I do wonder the interest level? Like, do you guys want more Rih-Rih? Do you want more fashion posts and street-style posts about Rihanna? I’m really asking – honk if you want more Rihanna! For the Black Girls Rock event, Rihanna wore this… unusual ensemble. With that face and that body, she can pull off nearly anything, but this outfit did leave me with a “???” thought bubble. She wore an oversized gingham blouse, shorts and a giant fur coat by Miu Miu. While I knew that Rihanna doesn’t have a problem with wearing fur, the choice of wearing fur to this event – and wearing fur over shorts and a blouse – is really strange. Rihanna also made a nice, tearful speech for her Rock Star Award: “Thank you so much for celebrating us in a world that doesn’t celebrate us enough. The minute you learn to love yourself, you will not want to be anybody else. Role model is not the title they like to give me…but I think I can inspire a lot of young women to be themselves and that is half the battle. Hopefully one day I’ll be raising my own little black girl who rocks.” [From E! News] Aw. Rihanna has been talking about babies more and more lately. It does feel like her biological clock has started ticking and she’s thinking more and more about settling down and starting a family. I genuinely believe she will be a kickass mom. Last things… Rihanna dropped her video for “Kiss It Better” last week, and you can see the NSFW video here. That single has a real ‘80s vibe and I don’t know how to feel about it. Also, Chris Hemsworth did a dramatic reading of the lyrics for “Work.” Photos courtesy of WENN.

Taylor Swift in a YSL jumpsuit at the iHeartRadio Awards: try-hard or cute?

I could post 50 photos of Taylor Swift’s pose-harding at the iHeartRadio Awards last night and each photo would make me laugh. It’s not that her outfit or her styling looked ridiculous, it’s just that she was taking the posing SO seriously. She was posing her ass off on this carpet and it was amazing. She really wanted the photographers to get her Saint Laurent Fall 2016 jumpsuit from every angle, especially the butt shots. As for the Saint Laurent jumpsuit … while Taylor has a great figure, I feel like this is sort of unflattering on her. I would have loved to see her in something else from Saint Laurent, like one of the more menswear-inspired looks. Taylor was joined at the awards show by her BFF Selena Gomez and her (Taylor’s) boyfriend Calvin Harris, also known as Adam Wiles. While Calvin and Tay didn’t walk the carpet together, they did sit together and Taylor did thank him during one of her many trips up to the stage to collect her awards, saying: “For the first time, I had the most amazing person to come home to when the spotlight went out and when the crowds were all gone. So I want to thank my boyfriend Adam for that.” Taylor took home awards for Best Tour, Best Female Artist and Album of the Year. Calvin took home the award for Dance Artist of the Year. Taylor also said something about how this was her last awards show for a while. Sure. She’s probably going to spend the spring and summer planning her wedding!!!
