Here are some photos of Taylor Swift and Lorde out in West Hollywood on Friday night. This is the most I’ve liked Taylor’s bob – it works better when she pushes her bangs to the side, right? They went out to The Nice Guy, a popular hotspot for the young and wealthy. Lorde still isn’t old enough to drink in America, so I wonder what she does when Taylor is sipping cocktails? Anyway, Swifty has been in LA for much of the year, ever since her tour ended. What’s nice is that her boyfriend Calvin Harris has also been camped out in LA, where he also has a home. Things seem to be going pretty well for them – they celebrated their one-year anniversary with a nice vacation, and there are many, many rumors that Taylor is thinking about marrying him. According to Grazia (via The Belfast Telegraph): “Before meeting Calvin she’d completely sworn off men and was focusing on her career,” an insider told Britain’s Grazia magazine. “The last thing she wanted was to get involved with another high-profile man but they just clicked. This is the most secure Taylor has ever felt. It’s not been easy getting there after everything she’s been through with her previous boyfriends but Calvin has proved over the last year that he’s The One.” Calvin spending Christmas (Dec15) with Taylor’s family in Colorado “sealed the deal” for both the stars, the source added. The couple have recently enjoyed some time alone together when they jetted to a tropical location for a much-deserved break. Now the pair’s pals are gearing up for an engagement announcement, with the general feeling that Taylor and Calvin will undoubtedly be walking down the aisle at some point in the future. “It definitely feels like that’s where it’s headed, but who knows how they’d find the time to plan a wedding,” the source smiled. “They had to move mountains to make their holiday work and their hectic schedules are a challenging obstacle when it comes to finding time for each other. I think her fans would be very surprised, especially since many of them treat Swifty like she’s still 17 years old and in need of “protection.” What would it mean for her fandom if Taylor really did get engaged and it was for real, because Taylor and Calvin truly adore each other and it’s a mature, adult relationship? As soon as she hit the stage, my girlfriend in New York shot out a group email saying, “How bad@ss is it the Best Costume Designer is wearing a leather jacket?” We all sent back cyber fist bumps. Apparently, the glitterati of Hollywood did not share our enthusiasm. As Jenny walked victorious to the stage, a number of high ranking entertainment industry folks either looked dismayed or withheld applause. The soon-to-be Best Director Alejandro Iñárritu even folded his arms across his chest. The question is, were his actions sour grapes that his designer for the The Revenant lost or did all the haut monde feel Jenny was too casual for their fancy dress party: What gives? Some of Hollywood’s biggest talents refused to clap for Mad Max: Fury Road costume designer Jenny Beavan on Sunday, February 28, as she walked up to the Dolby Theatre stage to accept her Academy Award — and the reason why they didn’t applaud her is even worse. Beavan broke away from the Oscars’ traditional dress code at the 88th awards ceremony, proudly grinning and walking down the aisle in a leather jacket (complete with a studded skull on the back) and a striped scarf. As she walked by, several audience members glowered and gave her judgmental looks. Four-time-Oscar-winning director Alejandro Iñárritu crossed his arms and glared, while Spotlight director Tom McCarthy touched his face with a confused expression. Other members of the audience were seen giggling and smiling before raising their hands to belatedly clap for the recipient. [From Us Weekly] This jacket is looking to take down Awards Season. This is the same jacket, minus the bedazzled Skull of Awesome, Jenny wore to the BAFTAs when Stephen Fry joked, “Only one of the great cinematic costume designers would come to an awards ceremony dressed as a bag lady,” after she’d won for Max. Twitter attacked him and he quit Twitter saying, “Will all you sanctimonious f****** f*** the f*** off Jenny Beavan is a friend and joshing is legitimate. Christ I want to leave the planet.” After the BAFTAs, Jenny said she wasn’t comfortable in a gown and her bad back prohibited heels. Then she quipped, “… This was a homage to Mad Max and I obviously didn’t get it quite right at the Baftas, the scarf was meant to be an oil rag.” The best news? The jacket is not only faux-leather but currently on sale at Marks and Spencer for about $60. I am not saying Oscar fashion isn’t important; I salivate over the gowns and rush to read the commentary on this website as quickly as you do. But Jenny wasn’t asked to present, she wasn’t loaned a gown or even interviewed on the red carpet; she had the luxury to wear something more comfortable. Fellow nominee Sandy Powell made a statement with a David Bowie inspired suit and all that got her was Juliana Ranic and Kris Jenner misidentifying her as Tilda Swinton. Designer Jacqueline Durran wore a long denim tied-front jacket to accept her Oscar in 2013 and in 1995 Lizzy Gardiner infamously wore a dress made of American Express Gold cards. Sure Jenny could have paired her jacket with silk palazzos but I stick with my girlfriend’s original assessment – it was bad@ss. Ginnifer Goodwin: people roll their eyes when I get on a plane with a baby

Ginnifer Goodwin of Once Upon a Time is pregnant with her second baby, with her husband and co-star, Josh Dallas. I would assume that she’s due around May, since the announcement was made last November. Goodwin voices one of the lead characters in the upcoming animated movie, Zootopia. She talked to US Magazine at the premiere about the challenges of being pregnant and raising a two year-old. It sounds like she considers air travel to be difficult, but not because her son is unruly on the plane, but because she feels judged by other passengers: Once Upon a Time actress Ginnifer Goodwin and her costar husband, Josh Dallas, aren’t exempt from toddler-shaming when they travel with their 20-month-old, Oliver. “People will look at us and they’ll roll their eyes when we go on an airplane,” the actress told Us Weekly on Wednesday, February 17, at the L.A. premiere of her new animated Disney film, Zootopia. “We’re like, just wait. We’ve got a pretty cool kid.” [Goodwin] admitted she was thinking of her son while she walked the red carpet with Kristen Bell, Katie Lowes and Shakira. “He’s amazing,” she gushed. “I miss him right this second.” Goodwin, who is having a baby boy, also said she’s been feeling tired. “Someone just told me that being pregnant is like, you put your body through what it is to run a marathon every day,” she told Us. “That made me feel a little better about being winded while chasing a 2-year-old around!” “He does at least 50 percent of all the parenting, and I really don’t know how people do it when they don’t have a partner who’s not supportive,” she revealed. “It’s so hard. It’s beautiful. But it’s hard!” [From US Magazine] Honestly I don’t get annoyed at babies crying on planes, I get annoyed at parents who think the rules don’t apply to them. I travel frequently, and I had an eight hour plane ride last month next to a couple with one baby. Almost the entire flight either the mom or the dad was in the aisle so that the baby could have a seat to herself. The baby was about five months old and could have been on someone’s lap, but they took up the aisle and were constantly getting stuff in and out of the overhead bin. No amount of side-eyeing or telling the woman I could wait to get out until she sat down would actually get her to sit down. So people don’t just side eye babies because they cry and fuss on the plane, which is completely understandable. I traveled all the time when my son was an infant, I get it that it’s hard, but it’s hard for everyone else too. Plus, I would assume Goodwin flies business class. People pay thousands of dollars for that, they don’t want to deal with parents messing around. I’m not saying Goodwin does this, she’s probably a respectful traveler, especially if she notices people judging her. No amount of judging could get that mom to sit down for five minutes. Jessie J: In America, ‘I’m kind of celebrated as one of the greatest singers’

Maybe I’m wrong, but the few times I’ve written about British singer Jessie J, I feel like most people were divided into two camps: Camp “Who?” and Camp “Meh.” It’s not that Jessie is particularly boring, untalented or uneventful – I actually think she’s got a great voice and she’s more interesting than many of the pop starlets today. But Jessie might have overestimated her popularity. Maybe. Jessie covers the new issue of Women’s Health UK, and she tells the magazine – which has a mostly British readership – that she doesn’t get a lot of respect in Britain but she’s “celebrated as one of the greatest singers” in America. Really? Some highlights: She’s received two Brit Awards but she’s never been asked to perform: “It makes me sad… I’ve done the Grammys, the VMAs. My profile in America is that I’m kind of celebrated as one of the greatest singers and I love it.” Her goal: “I wanna be up there with the Celine Dions, the Whitneys, the Beyoncés and Arethas. I go hard because I hope and pray that one day, people look back and go, ‘She could really f–king sing, you know.’ Which is why I keep going.” She wants kids: “I talk about my children every day even though they don’t exist. It sounds really weird, but I do. I put into the universe that I love them…who knows when it’s going to happen?” Turning 28: “The 27 Club and all that. It’s scary. I mean, the most hardcore I get is a glass of ginger wine, but if you’re successful at 27, the speed of your life is unreal. Nearly 30. You need to get your sh-t together.” [From E! News and Women’s Health] Yeah… she’s not going to win a lot of support in her own country with this interview. The thing is, she really does have a great, powerful voice. But I sometimes wonder if she needs to nail down one specific sound. I remember reading something about Jessie’s musical popularity with gay men, and I do think that’s where she should aim: be the next Cher. Killer voice, power ballads, gay-club anthems. Do that. And no, I don’t think America celebrates her as “one of the greatest singers.” Americans hears her music and they think, “Great voice, who sings it?” And then they forget her name as soon as they hear it. Sofia Vergara won’t complain about diversity: ‘I’ve been treated like a queen’

Some people are tired of Sofia Vergara. I’m not. I got a little bit tired of her a few years back, but I fell back in love with her during the drama last year with her ex, Nick Loeb, a drama which has no end in sight. Sofia covers the new issue of The Edit, and she talks about a lot of the same stuff: accepting who you are, her giant rack, her hair, her red carpet styling and more. But she has thoughts about other stuff too, like diversity in entertainment and playing a stereotype. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights: Stereotypes are not always bad: “I’m not afraid of them, and they don’t have to be bad, either. I mean, Gloria is an amazing character: a really good woman with this hilarious accent, so why criticize her for being a stereotype? Plus, all the Latinas I know are loud, they dress sexy and are really involved with their families: that’s Gloria!” She’s not Zen about aging: “Watching myself age on screen is awful! There is nothing more disturbing than watching an episode of Modern Family from the first season, then one from seven years later. It just makes me want to kill myself, but what can I do? I’ll be sad when the wolf whistles stop. I’m already sad that men have started calling me ‘Señora’. I get really pissed off: ‘What? It’s Señorita!’” How she’s changed in her 40s: “Back in my mum’s era, 40 was considered old, but now I don’t think it is. You have to accept that you can look beautiful, but in a different way. Nowadays I don’t do miniskirts and low-cut tops: it’s one or the other. I don’t do shorts or pink anymore, and I’ve softened my eye makeup. In Colombia, once women hit 40, they automatically cut their hair short. I used to think I would do that too, but when it came to it I thought, ‘Why should I f***ing cut my hair? It makes you look older!’” Motherhood: “I became a mother very young – at 20 – so I feel like I’ve been a mother my whole life, but I love that. Now that I’m 43 and my son is 23, it’s funny to see some of my girlfriends raising young kids. In the US, women postpone motherhood, but in Latin America most of my friends have kids my son’s age. I wouldn’t mind another child: my husband is younger than me and he wants kids so we’re trying to figure out what we’re going to do. The idea of doing it all again doesn’t scare me but, hey, it’s not like it’s going to happen naturally, is it?” Complaints about diversity: “I’m really not one to complain. I mean, seriously, how dare I! Here I am on prime-time television with this stupid accent, I can’t trash anyone. It would be so ungrateful of me because, trust me, I’ve been treated like a queen. Of course [the opportunities] can’t compare to an American or Caucasian woman’s, but things are changing. The problem is not the networks or directors: it’s that there aren’t enough writers creating things for Latinos. Once we have more Latinos writing, that’s when things may really start to change…” Her breasts: “My body has changed with age. People will often say that I wear the same thing on the red carpet, but I know my body: it’s very voluptuous and I’ve got the boobs of a stripper. They’re a 32DDD and because they’re real, they’re everywhere, so I need my dresses to have structure – and under armor. There is so much going on under my dresses that I bleed at the end of award ceremonies. In ten years I think it would be good to have a reduction. I don’t think it’s even going to be an option not to [have surgery], because I’m going to start having back pains. I wouldn’t make them too small – just enough that I don’t end up looking like an old stripper.” How she feels about being objectified: “I’ve never understood why women get so offended. I just don’t believe in all that drama, which is why I’ve made a whole joke out of it. I am secure enough not to take it all that seriously, and I like to laugh at myself.” [From The Edit] I wouldn’t hold it against her if she did complain about diversity, because she seriously toiled away, looking for a break for more than a decade. Once she had a hit, she leveraged that into her own empire through her own hard work. As for the other stuff… here are my Hot Takes: you don’t have to cut your hair when you hit 40, but I disagree that a short haircut makes everyone look older. I don’t think it’s bad idea to say breast reduction might be in the future for Sofia: it might happen. Also, if your dresses make you bleed, you should choose different dresses! Helen Mirren: ‘There is an extraordinary, extreme, right-wing voice in America’

Was I too nice to Helen Mirren yesterday? Probably. I like her so much, I do tend to ignore it when she makes problematic statements. My defense of her is usually along the lines of “well, now she knows, maybe she’s learned how to speak about this issue now.” Anyway, Britain’s Channel 4 released the video of their interview with Mirren, and she talks about a lot more than #OscarsSoWhite and the Academy. She was also asked about American politics. Just for the record, Helen has been married to an American for nearly 20 years, and I’m almost positive that she lives most of the time in America (I believe she and Taylor Hackford own homes in New Orleans and LA). Mirren is also an American citizen, likely through her marriage. So… I feel like it’s totally fine for Mirren to talk about American politics, considering she likely votes in American elections. And as it turns out, Mirren kind of hates Ted Cruz and to a lesser degree, Donald Trump. Whether the rise of Donald Trump signals a return of 1950s-style conservatism: “Yes, Donald Trump… and Ted Cruz. I suspect more Ted Cruz in a way than Donald Trump. I think the people who support Ted Cruz think Donald Trump is a little bit of a liberal. I think Donald Trump has a populist voice, massively populist, and that slightly demagogue, populist voice. But I think Ted Cruz is more the really old-school extreme right conservative.” The extreme right wing: “There is an extraordinary, extreme, right-wing voice in America – extreme. If that does get into power fully – in the Congress, in the Senate, in the White House and has all the power that it wants, I can’t imagine how the world would look. I think it’s a very, very frightening idea, myself. This whole idea of ‘making America great’ it seems to me it would actually be sort of the end of America as a great country.” [Via Channel 4, People Magazine] Helen has previously referred to Trump as “stupid,” but in this interview, it sounds like she’s more worried about Ted Cruz. I’m kind of feeling it too – the interviewer clearly wants to talk more about Donald Trump and hopefully takeaway a juicy, bitchy quote, but Mirren is more concerned about Cruz’s neo-McCarthyism. She’s right to be concerned. And personally, I’m still hoping that Donald Trump’s final gift to the American people is a spectacular takedown of Cruz. Please let it happen! Here’s Mirren’s interview. Amber Rose calls Kanye West a ‘f–king clown’: ‘You don’t bring in my baby’

Here are some photos of Amber Rose on Wednesday, after Kanye West’s Twitter rant directed at Wiz Khalifa (Amber’s ex) and after Amber body-slammed Kanye on Twitter. A lot is being said and written about Kanye’s constant disses towards Amber Rose following their breakup more than four years ago. Some think Kanye still has feelings for or about Amber. Some think Kanye is a petty child. I don’t disagree. But if I can just point out one small thing: Kanye called Amber a “stripper” in his Twitter rant because he thought Wiz made a derogatory reference to Kim (as it turned out, Wiz was just talking about weed). If Wiz or anyone else actually did slam Kim, I would expect Kanye to act the exact same way. None of which means that Kanye was in the right, especially when Kanye went in on Sebastian, Amber and Wiz’s son. So, Amber did an interview with the podcast Allegedly and she reacted to Kanye’s shade towards Sebastian. She apparently calls Ye a “f—king clown.” And more: “The thing of it is like, I would never talk about kids in like, an argument. It just shows the type of person he is. You know, even him saying stuff about my son, I still didn’t say anything about his kids. I’m not going to. That’s ridiculous. They’re innocent babies. You don’t ever, ever talk about a baby, ever. It just shows how f–king ridiculous he is.” “Listen, don’t talk about my kid. That’s all I got to say. Don’t talk about my baby. I wouldn’t have said anything if it was just between him and Wiz. That’s two grown men hashing it out. I would’ve kept it cute and just minded my business. You don’t bring in my baby. That’s so corny. That’s the second time you did it this week.” [From E! News] For sure. Don’t talk about the children. And she’s absolutely right: imagine the weeks of drama if Amber even mentioned North or Saint on Twitter or in an interview. Just to play devil’s advocate though… while Kanye absolutely should never had even referenced Amber’s child, the tweets felt more like Kanye was attacking Amber, that Amber was the target more than anyone else. He tweeted to Wiz: “I know you mad every time you look at your child that this girl got you for 18 years.” That’s a common theme with Kanye, that a “Golddigger” will get knocked up and you’ll be paying her for 18 years. That’s a slam against Amber. The other two references were “You wouldn’t have a child if it wasn’t for me” and “You own waves???? I own your child!!!!” I think “you wouldn’t have a child” is about how if Kanye hadn’t broken up with Amber, she never would have gotten with Wiz, etc. As for “I own your child”… I don’t even know what that’s about, I really don’t. Again, I’m not defending Kanye, but Amber acts like Kanye name-checked Sebastian specifically when really Kanye just needs to stop obsessing over Amber full-stop.
