Embed from Getty Images The BET Awards were held last night, and it seemed like a really nice event. They paid tribute to Prince throughout the evening, with Jennifer Hudson singing “Purple Rain,” Sheila E delivering a speech about Prince and Janelle Monae doing her own amazing tribute too – go here to see. You can see the full list of BET Award winners here. Beyond the Prince tributes, everyone’s talking about Beyonce and Kendrick Lamar opening the show with an extended version of Bey’s “Freedom.” That song is easily one of my favorites off of Lemonade, and Kendrick’s work on the track is GENIUS. Plus, it just feels like Beyonce and Kendrick are two artists at their absolute peak right now, and BET spent some serious money on the staging for this performance. It’s perfect. THIS is how you open a show #BETAwards @Beyonce @kendricklamar https://t.co/7n91r6GKJI — haoyi (@haoyikok) June 27, 2016 Awesome, right? God, I love Kendrick. Anyway, here are some fashion photos from the event. Beyonce didn’t walk the carpet or anything, but the hostess did – here’ Tracee Ellis Ross in a vintage Thierry Mugler gown. The skirt is too tight and the wrong length! But otherwise, I do love her. Gabrielle Union wore Marc Jacobs. This was one of the best looks of the night. Alicia Keys wore a jumpsuit/onesie and no makeup. It’s the turban that made me go “hm?” though. I thought for a second that she had silver hair now. Karrueche Tran looked beautiful, right? But the dress is too tight. And finally, here’s Janelle Monae in Sass and Bide. This was one of my favorite looks of the night too. Photos courtesy of Getty, WENN.
The CFDAs were held last night in New York. I generally find the CFDAs kind of boring, fashion-wise. It’s not the Met Gala and it’s not the Oscars. Some ladies try to do something different, but most people just look vaguely nice and not particularly noteworthy. Take the Olsen sisters – we’ve seen Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen look like Victorian ghosts a million times before. The only difference is that at the CFDAs, they dressed their little sister Elizabeth in The Row and now she looks like a Victorian ghost now too. More photos… Stephanie Sokolinski (Soko!!) looking tired in Gucci. It really is about styling with this woman, and I really, really want to take away her pink-brown eye makeup. The dress is fine (and it suits her) but I think she would look better with different hair and makeup. Adriana Lima in Marc Jacobs. I like that she wore pants. This outfit is nice. Riley Keough in Proenza Schouler. I’m actually not a fan of Proenza Schouler, I think the clothes usually look overworked and fashion-student-y. But this was one of my favorite dresses at the event. Jessica Chastain in Prabal Gurung. Love the dress, hate the styling. Chastain was doing so well, and I really thought she had gotten some better hair and makeup people. But maybe not. Because she should never, ever do her hair like this. Jennifer Hudson in Prabal Gurung. Pretty dress, but it feels too big and heavy for this event. I also don’t like how she matched her lipstick to the dress exactly. Photos courtesy of WENN.
The final piece of confetti has dropped. The final tears have fallen from Jennifer Lopez’s eyes. And Ryan Seacrest has signed off for the final time. Indeed, following 15 seasons of highs and lows… missed notes and perfect notes… judges who flirted and judges who nearly came to blows… American Idol signed off for good on Thursday night. The two-plus hour event included a return from familiar faces such as Randy Jackson and Kelly Clarkson, the latter of whom sang a medley of her greatest hits. There was also a David Bowie tribute, appearances by Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia and even President Obama recorded a message to be played over video. But there was last piece of business to conduct prior to saying goodbye: selecting a winner! Would it be Trent Harmon, the soulful 25-year old from Armory, Mississippi? Or would it be La’Porsha Renae, the 22-year old who also hails from Mississippi and whose emotion pours through with every performance? And the champion is… View Slideshow: 14 Awesomest American Idol Alums … TRENT HARMON! “I worked so hard. I know that I had a God-given ability, but I didn’t want to take it for granted,” Harmon said through years to conclude the show. “I wanted to work so hard, and [Renae] pushed me to do it.” So there you have it. What do you think, fans? Who SHOULD have won the final season of American Idol? Trent HarmonLa’Porsha Renae View Poll »
